Hanna Earnest has outdone herself with this admittedly quiet fake dating/twin swap romance. I adored getting to know this couple through their journey and readers will eat up this soap opera in a book.
Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.
I don't think I have ever disliked a female character as much as I dislike Benj. She is nasty and so quick to judge others, particularly Milo.
This is a good book. The two main characters are Benj and Milo. They meet three years ago working on a movie. Benj was a makeup artist and Milo was an actor. They kissed then in a minute Benj was fired. Three years later Benj needed to have Milo act like he was his twin brother. They each had some issues up together they worked them out and fell in love.
I loved All The Best Nights and was so excited for this one. Unfortunately it just didn’t work for me. I’m not a fan of second chance romance stories and they rarely work for me but I hoped this would be the exception. However at 34% into the book I’m still not feeling it so I’m going to call it here. Thank you very much to the publisher and Netgalley for the free ebook.
This book was just okay for me. I read the first quarter of the book but found I was not engaged with any of the characters and skimmed the rest of the book. I found the plot to be absolutely bonkers but not in a way that was fun. I just struggled to suspend my disbelieve that grown adult twins would somehow have the ability to impersonate the other even with the help of makeup. I wish this one would have worked for me, but it just wasn't clicking no matter how much I tried.
When makeup artist Benjamina “Benj” Wasik finds herself fired after a steam kiss from Milo Fox, she is ready to move on. Yet with her trust and heart shattered, she struggles to trust him again even though events occur that forces them together. Benji and Milo have to pretend to be in a relationship but with Milo, playing his famous twin brother.
This book examines the celebrity romance and all the hijinks that goes with it. The superficial nature does seem a bit stretched. Whilst there is plenty of chemistry between the couple, I did find how Benji treated Milo, a bit too much for him to then have feelings for her. Great secondary characters that added to this story, making it more realistic.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This story kept me hooked. I was obsessed with finding out what happened between Benj and Milo. The bad history that they have is obviously from a misunderstanding. You just have to read far enough in the story to gather all the pieces. The storyline only gets better when these two are forced to work together to protect someone else by working close together to pretend they are in a relationship in the hope of circumventing a negative rumor.
This was a fun and emotional read. These characters are deeper than you originally realize and it's easier to care about them when you know how life's events have impacted them both. I read the book in one day because I had to know how the storyline resolves itself.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to read and review it and the opinions contained within are my own.
I have sat on this review; I wanted to find the right words and not rush it. I adored All the Best Nights, and I have read it more than once. While End of the Day did not have the same magic for me, it is still a great read.
Benj and Milo’s story had my attention the entire read, and the situation to create the setup for fake dating is refreshing. Plenty of chemistry and steam, the secondary characters are essential, and I hope we get to know them better in future books.
A recommended read, even if you do not read the first.
Thank you to NetGalley, and Carina Press, for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Three years ago, Benj had really made it—she was the makeup artist on a big budget film starring twin action heroes and enjoying a causal flirtation with Milo, the quieter of the twins. All of that came crashing down when Milo took flirting a little too far and Benj paid the price by being fired from the movie. Now she’s back, stronger than ever, working with her pop star best friend and things are going well. That is until Milo’s brother starts a media fire storm (then disappears) and Benj is caught in the middle. The only way around it is to fake a romance with Milo (playing his brother), even though she can’t stand to be in his presence and he doesn’t seem to understand why.
Man, the more I read about the entertainment industry, the more confident I am that I would never want to be a part of it. I have no doubt there are perks, but there are way too many people up in your business and way too many golden opportunities for liars, backstabbers, and connivers. Poor Benj and Milo just want to live simple lives but can’t seem to get away from the drama. This is the second book in the Night and Day series (which doesn’t need to be read in order but All the Best Nights was great so you should read it) and I would say it was quieter than the previous story. Less angst but still steamy and fun. I think I wanted them to be able to settle in together more and then the book was over, but they were good characters and they had great chemistry. Thanks to Carina Press and Netgalley for the eARC. Available 9/27/2022.

I really enjoyed Benj's and Milo's story. The main storyline and steam were great, and I loved the characters. I didn't love the OW/M drama, it felt like it detracted from Ben and Milo's relationship... I think this happens in a lot of movie star books, but it's just not my favorite trope.
I really loved Milo. I wish we could have gotten a little more at the end, be it epilogue or just an extension of the story, I really wanted to see him more in his element. I wanted to see his sunshine operation and learn more about how his injury still affects him. He was a really interesting character, and I enjoyed watching him find his way throughout this story. Benj was great too, I especially loved when she took charge and went for what she wanted.
I couldn't decide if I loved or hated Jackson for a good while there.... but now I'm hoping we get his story too. He's got some hidden depths I want to get to know better.
All the Best Nights was one of my favorite romance books last year, and just an all time favorite in general. I was so extremely excited to see that there was a follow up coming in End of the Day. I devoured this one in two sittings and was completely immersed in Benj and Milo's story. Hanna Earnest creates such rich stories with imagery that I find I cannot get out of my head even months later. These characters and their lives felt gritty and real to be, tangible enough to walk right out of the book.
I'll admit it took me a few pages to get my bearings as the reader is sort of dropped into a second chance romance where not one, but two sort of catalyzing events have already happened. That plus the whole parent trap twin trickery happening had me feeling a bit lost but once I caught up I was invested and found the plot unspooled without any more confusion on my part. I am such a sucker for a good second chance romance and the angst and pining that come along with it. In addition to everything else, the sex scenes that Earnest wrote in this book and All the Best Nights were scorchingly hot and imprinted in my brain forevermore. I was particularly effected by the scene in Benj's doorway and the one in the pool. Like, needed a cold shower effected.
I feel so fortunate to have been able to read an early copy of this one thanks to Carina Press and Netgalley and I am so looking forward to reading any and everything that Hannah Earnest writes next!
So, this is a hard review for me to write for a lot of reasons. The main one is that I don’t want to be unfair toward this book by comparing it to the author’s debut, All the Best Nights, which has become one of my all time favorites. I’m not a writer, but I’ve heard from many of them that sophomore book syndrome is real, and that they have a really hard time with readers’ expectations around their second books, especially if they loved the first ones. So, I’m just being very conscious that All the Best Nights and End of the Day are different things, and they should be appreciated for what they are.
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to the good part. Our female lead is Benjamina Wasik, a Hollywood makeup artist, as you might remember from the first book. As a newbie in the industry, she was hired to work in an action movie starring twin brothers Milo and Jackson Fox. Working closely with Milo led to an instant connection and a steamy kiss, which ultimately got her fired (at his request, as far she knows).
Thankfully, Benj had the chance to redeem herself through her work with her best friend, Nelle, a popstar with an insanely big reach, meaning her makeup skills have been shown in stages around the world and in endless magazine covers.
In the meantime, Milo evolved into a very different person. Although he had no part in kicking Benj out of the movie, he does feel guilty about the way he handled things with her. Plus, a stunt injury and a whole lot of disdain for Hollywood made him quit acting, so his days are now spent mostly brooding, and, like, grooming his beard.
While they both plan to avoid each other forever at all costs, fate has other plans, since a tabloid misunderstanding has created a completely false rumor that Nelle is cheating on her perfect husband with Jackson Fox. The solution? To spin the story and make it seem like Benj is the one dating Jackson. Except, since Jackson is now unreachable, it’s up to Milo to pretend to be his twin brother and fake date Benj all through the town.
Now, listen. This book delved into celebrity romance territory, meaning it’s allowed to be a little far-fetched and aim for the stars, but it was still a little too out there for me. So many things about it felt way too weird. Like, sure, Milo felt really guilty about how things ended with Benj, but, in the moment he agrees to her scheme, he doesn’t know that she thinks he got her fired, and while what he actually did does warrant a little guilt, it’s not enough that I think he would ever feel the need to do this insane favor for her.
Besides, their whole dynamic, from the beginning, felt really wacky. She was incredibly rude to him all the time, and I couldn’t understand why he would just take it. Besides, there was this whole thing about how she would put makeup on him to make him look more like his brother, but, I’m sorry, there’s no amount of makeup you can put on Cole Sprouse to make me think he is Dylan Sprouse, and they look a lot alike, lol.
I just needed this book to be more grounded, but it was just craziness from the first page, and not in a great way. I still love this author and the overall vibe of her books, but this one was just not my favorite.
Benjamina’s friend gets into some trouble that only fake dating can solve - love me some fake dating! My favorite! And End of the Day is quite appealing. This is the second of the Night and Day series but can be read as a standalone. Benj likes talking, makeup, internet psychics and ‘fluffing her aura.” But she’s been hurt, badly, by Milo. Milo and his twin brother are actors and he has had an on set accident that has taken him a year to recover from. During that time he has done some heavy soul searching. Plus, he’s still in love with Benj.
Benj’s friend was seen with Milo’s twin brother - not her husband-and the paparazzi are circling. To get attention away from her friend Milo pretends to be his brother who is hot and heavy for Benj, not interested in Benj’s friend. But things go a little differently than planned in this relationship.
Benj and Milo are very engaging and genuine characters. The plot is well written and absorbing. A good read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I love Hollywood themed book’s especially the fake dating troupe. Full review to follow… this looks like such a fun read I can’t wait to see what develops between Benjamin and Milo. It looks like they are going to have such a great chemistry with one another and that makes a book like this extra special.
A Hollywood makeup artist has to fake date her nemesis in this bright new contemporary romance from All the Best Nights author Hanna Earnest.
Don’t start something you can’t finish…
Makeup artist Benjamina “Benj” Wasik’s trust—and heart—was shattered when a steamy kiss from Milo Fox got her fired. But she’s moved on to a great new gig, that false start with Milo all but forgotten.
Milo remembers it all. His guilt about the way things ended is still raw, worse than the injuries he sustained from a stunt accident that sent him back east to recover on his family’s sunflower farm. Hurting Benj is the move he’ll always regret.
Until a blossoming scandal forces Benj and Milo to fabricate more Hollywood drama. Now Milo has a second chance with Benj, if he can commit to the hardest role of his career—playing her boyfriend and his famous twin brother.
Benj’s part is equally challenging: pretending she doesn’t hate Milo’s face…and then trying to remember why she does. And while Milo’s lips may be good at some things, apologizing isn’t one of them.
