Unfortunately, I lost access to all of my audiobooks when the app updated so I never got to finish this one. I still enjoyed the first half so will probably pick it up from my local library sometime. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
One of my favorite holiday reads this season, I absolutely loved A MERRY LITTLE MEET CUTE by Julie Murphy. I was gifted the audiobook, and really enjoyed that it was narrated by Joy Nash and Sebastian York.
Co-written by both Murphy and Sierra Simone, I thought the story was perfect for this season, and I really preferred the audio format.
*many thanks to Harper Audio for the gifted copy for review
This was an intriguing, fresh premise. I loved the backstories, the narrators, the chemistry, the side characters, the setting, the steam. It was not only a favorite seasonal read, but one of my favorite rom-coms this year!
I couldn't get into this one, it was a little too cheesy for me. I know several others that enjoyed so if it sounds good, I'd still try it!
As much as I wanted to love this novel (Julie Murphy is one of my favorite authors), A Merry Little Meet Cute fell flat for me. The story itself was fine and is certainly a great book to read to get you in the holiday spirit, but it was missing the extra depth that I have come to expect from Murphy’s writing. If you are looking for a funny, mindless seasonal romance with some spice, this is the book for you.
Everything you want is a holiday romance but with a unique super fun concept! I loved it!! The writing was fun and sucked me right in! I knew I was gonna like this book the second I saw the cover.
Very cute 🥰
Very funny 😂
Very spicy 🌶️
I really liked this story! Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone are quite the pare! I definitely got all the holiday feels and there was a perfect balance of romance, steam, and humor. I found myself laughing out loud a lot while reading this.
The Plus size representation, and the sex positivity was amazing. I really liked how Bee and Nolan both we're fans of each other and then found one another in such a unique unconventional way.
There was a lot of hope for this to be a series, which I would love! But regardless, this story was great! Definitely pick this one up!
Genre: Holiday Romance
Format: Audio/E-book
4.25🌟 - I enjoyed it!
Thank you @netgalley and @avon for the ALC/E-ARC copies of this book!
Don’t let this cute cover fool you, this is the spicy holiday book of the season!
This book had a lot of depth to it too! There was so much positive body representation, LGBTQIA rep, mental health rep, all packaged in the filming of a Hallmark style Christmas movie with a MC who is an adult star and a recovering bad boy pop star.
This one really surprised me, and I’m so glad I got to read it!
Overall a heartwarming, steamy, and perfect holiday rom-com!
Former boy band member trying to remake his image and a well-known porn star tries to make her big break. Both of them have had crushes on each other for many years, and were very aware of the whole concept of parasocial relationships, but also, do not care. They fight a lot of feelings, mostly physical feelings, very well described physical feelings....
Okay, so, I liked this. I did. But it felt very... single layer? Sure, they discussed feelings and talk about their lives, but they never had any real deep meaningful conversations and when they started to have those they quickly stopped as they start having sex again. Which isn't a problem! It was well done, and even though listening to it via audiobook is a little strange for me, it was done well. I guess I wish there was something more to the relationship other than teenage crushes and lust. Even when they get into the nitty gritty about why they need the movie to go well, it becomes about five minutes of family discussion and then they are having sex again. I was just hoping for more in the relationship realm of things.
There's a happy ever after, though it wasn't how I was expecting it.
Wowza! I was not expecting the spice level of Julie Murphy's newest!
As the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy was a 2 on the spice level, so I was hesitant about reading another. But A Merry Little Meet Cute stars a female porn star who is breaking into non-porn-related film. The film company: a Netflix-like streaming company with a Hallmark esthetic. Her costar is none another than former-boy-band bad boy Nolan. And former teen-uber-crush. But she's not the only one with a massive crush....
The hilarious situations and spicy tension (and acts!) make A Merry Little Meet Cute pop. It's a perfect winter-season read for those who like to get spicy in the sheets... and in front of a camera.
LGBTQIA+:
Both male and female protagonists are bi.
(Side note: Author Julie Murphy has been vocal about creating bi characters who truly embody and understand the full range of the bi experience because that doesn't exist. As such, Murphy has been leading the pack with this, and other authors are following in her footsteps, but Murphy's authenticity brings amazing verisimilitude to her bi characters. Neither Nolan or Bea's bisexuality are a big part of the story, but the throw-away asides or commentary regarding it is just *chef's kiss*. Keep it up!)
If you are like me and just love Christmas RomCom books and movies you'll love this book. Not only because of that because this is like a revamped version of that thanks to the amazing spice this book has. I'm talking like 7 out of 5 levels of spice.
The best part is that it all makes sense, the plot is not forced out to achieve anything.
The setting is a movie production set where everyone is pretending thanks to the producing network being a super goody goody "life time/hallmark like" environment.
We have a producer from the adult film entertainment and his crew trying to diversify their movie portfolio.
We have a washed out boy band member trying to get by.
We have an adult film star trying to transition to mainstream movies.
The best part? They both have crushes on each other without having met.
If this doesn't sound good for a great christmas book, I don't know what does.
The audio book is supper good, I loved both voices and I think they complement each other very well.
A Merry Little Meet Cute was such a wonderful and refreshing holiday read! The Christmas spirit/holiday cheer was super well done in the novel but not overdone as holiday romances often are.
I also felt that the characters were very real and relatable. I could definitely visualize Bea as a real person- her character was super actualized.
The sex scenes were also super hot!
Overall, this novel is the perfect fun and sexy holiday romance and I 100% recommend .
4/5 stars.
This one was a really hard one to get through. I struggled to even get to the half way point. The book held no substance, it was heavy on two porn stars being very attracted to each other in a physical way. There was no chemical or meet cute between the two mains. There wasnt any swoony-worthy moments that I look for in a romcom. As of right now, I am going to DNF but I may pick it back up at a later time in December.
This was such a blast to read! Not exactly where you expected it to go but I loved all the characters and the representation! The narrators were amazing and really gave you and idea of all the characters. This is one of those great romances where there are plenty of fun parts but its not all fluff and happiness. There are real things to think of and they are handled wonderfully!
Super cute Christmas read! This collaboration of authors did romcom holiday right! Definitely recommend!
I absolutely loved this book. It was the perfect mix of sweet and salty... or should I say spicy. The narrator of the audiobook were bang on, just perfect for these characters. I will definitely be recommending it this holiday season.
This was a book that surprised me in a good way. It made me giggle and I loved the premise. The way the two authors came together to write such an entertaining book was very enjoyable. I have recommended this book to everyone that I know and have already received great feedback. Loved it!
“He knew what I needed of course. I needed the promises and vows we could never speak aloud, so he wrote them into my body instead.”
If you are looking for a sweet holiday romance or a Hallmark-esque love story…find another book 😆.
This book is steamyyy. It is also so fun and I really enjoyed it! The main characters are an ex boy band horny man and a plus sized pornstar, just so you know what you’re getting yourself into.
But if you like spice, then this is the book for you!! Add a Christmas movie set and you have yourself a hot and heavy holiday story! A Merry Little Meet Cute, which I was given an ALC of, has dual narrators and I found myself laughing out loud multiple times. And also rooting hard for this it-can-never-work-between-us couple. The narrators are fabulous and add so much emotion and sexy spunk to these characters. What a fun and enjoyable way to start my holiday reading!
Thank you to Netgalley, Harper Audio, and the authors for this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a fun book! I loved the characters and all the different representations in this book. Bee is plus size porn star who fully embraces life while trying to figure out where she wants to go with her career. I loved her confidence and how comfortable she was in her own skin. Nolan is the "washed up boy band bad boy" trying to get a new start. I enjoyed his journey "back to fame" while still dealing with real family problems back home. Bee and Nolan were so fun together!
This book was one of my most anticipated books of the year. I had never read a Julie Murphy book before, but I love Sierra Simone!! This book was everything I was expecting; it was funny, enjoyable, and reminiscent of Christmas Hallmark movies. I loved all the characters and will be recommending this book to friends and customers.
Bea's career as a sex worker is lucrative: she has tons of subscribers to her ClosedDoors account and has starred in countless productions, but she can't help but think that there might be a career for her beyond the adult entertainment industry. She can only star in that kind of work for so long. When her longtime trusted friend Teddy tries to make his way as a producer in a Hallmark-style movie industry and offers her a job, she takes it. They're both trying to break outside of the realm they've been locked into and seize the opportunity to work on a sugary sweet wholesome Christmas flick. Bea has to star against her longtime crush, former boyband bad boy Nolan Shaw. Nolan recognizes her immediately (he's a big fan of her work), and knows that he has to help keep her identity a secret. Sparks inevitably fly as the two co-stars try to navigate their career rehabs and manage the secret their relationship. It's a quick read with likeable characters who can't resist one another.
