Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. I was on the fence about whether or not to request this one. I feel like this plot has recently been overdone. Girl moves into nice apartment at a cheap cost, can't believe she found such a deal, things start happened, someone kidnaps and tries to kill her. Too overdone. Ended up skimming more than anything. Enjoyed her other books much more.
This was actually a gripping psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge!
Libby moves to a new apartment and it was too good to be true for her. She wanted to start a brand new life after she caught her ex cheating on her. Trying to get away from her obsessed ex and wanting to start a new life, Libby moved into this new apartment she came across on the ad. However, her newfound happiness turns into a nightmare when someone doesn't really want her in the apartment. Meanwhile, Ricardo, after his wife's death comes to Birmingham to look for his estranged daughter Bettina who used to live in Libby's apartment and has disappeared without a trace.
The plot of the story was really good and the author's writing style clearly made the reader feel like they are on the edge! It felt like I was watching a good mystery movie on the TV. The story is fast paced, which is a plus sign for a good thriller with so many twists and turns. Bettina's disappearance was what actually drew me into the story, as I really want to know what really happened to her. However, towards the end, it became a bit predictable which actually lowered my rating to a four-star and didn't really understand the motivation behind the crime either, but nonetheless, this was a gripping and satisfying thriller that will keep you hooked into the story from the beginning till the end. So if you are looking for a nail biting thriller with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge with the reminiscence of Norman Bates Psycho movie, this book is one for you--worth four stars!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
Thanks to bookouture and netgalley for letting me review this book.....W.O.W...... This book drew me in straight away..... Libby leaves an abusive ex gary and moves into a houseshare that her sister has found her. Tom the owner of the house and caretaker is always available to help with anything that needs doing..... Things start to disappear from libbies room, michaela and kirsty downstairs fast become friends with libby. Downstairs a man only known as mr bull is always punching things and breaking chairs, nobody has ever met him.. libby works in a recruitment agency and starts to have trouble with a man on the books, he is always drunk and starts to become aggressive when libby doesnt find him any work..
Libby feels that someone is always watching her and starts to think maybe her ex has found her..
Things are not always what they seem...... who is mr. Bull? Where does einstein libbys cat keep disappearing of to? Is tim hiding any secrets?. I highley recommend this book, i couldnt put it down. It is well written, great storyline, eerie and never saw the ending coming. If you only read one book this year houseshare has to be it
It was OK, not my favorite and would give it 2.5 stars. I absolutely LOVE the Gina Harte Series, but the stand alone books always seem to be missing something. Didn't love any of the characters. Libby did the exact opposite of any normal person. She leaves an abusive partner and moves so he can't find her. So she keeps the window open because her cat likes to go outside, which means anyone can get inside her apartment. She leaves this window open all day long, even when she isn't home. The cat will survive staying in the apartment. Libby doesn't even seem scared when she realizes someone has been in her place when she isn't there. She never blocks her ex, so she keeps getting all his harassing messages. She deletes everything, so there goes her proof. The story wasn't much of a mystery/thriller just creepy. It would have been nice to know what was in the diary. That at least would have given the reader the reasons for everything that occurred.
Definitely give the book a try, it just wasn't for me. I look forward to reading more books by the author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bookouture through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The Houseshare by Carla Kovach is a gripping new psychological thriller which takes us into an apartment complex in Birhingham, England.
Libby is a domestic abuse survivor who has recently moved into a flat in an apartment complex owned by Tim and is just starting to get settled into her independent life when strange things happening around her. She gets the feeling like she is being stalked, her stuff starts disappearing and someone keeps throwing stones at her windows. Mix in a intriguing landlord, a scorned workplace enemy and an estranged husband.
The mystery of the book kept me invested right from the start but it was clear enough that Gary wasn't the one doing the stalking or any harm. The past involving Louise and Olly was made sure to play a part in whatever was happening at present which ruled out a lot of suspects for me it seemed. And Tim's character, although it was tried to be portrayed as a bit mysterious and maybe clingy, I was pretty sure he's involved in Bettina's disappearance soon enough. I felt like there was something lacking in the book with respect to make the audience grasp the end of their seats.
Anyone who reads psychological thrillers on the regular would find it just a tiny bit lackluster but it is a perfect book for newbies.
Fast paced and a thriller to keep you guessing! This story follows Libby as she leaves an abusive relationship with Gary to start afresh on her own in a flat in a shared house. Soon after things keep disappearing and Libby feels she is being watched. Her sister, Olly, is her rock and her new landlord, Tim, seems perfect. Libby meets Ricardio who's daughter Bettina was living in Libby's flat before her and then begins a rollercoaster ride to try and find her and solve the mystery of the unease Libby is feeling. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat and I raced through it, every time I got complacent and thought I'd figured it out there was another twist. Carla Kovach pulls off another winner!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
Libby has just left a bad relationship. Snuck out being the more appropriate term. She feels really lucky to have found a new flat with lovely Tim as her landlord. Her sister Olly is all she has, after a horrendous childhood and she leans on Olly for support, as she is getting nasty and harassing messages form her ex Gary. On top of this she’s having a hard time at work, with one of her clients showing rude and abusive behaviour.
During all this Libby makes friends with the girls in one of the flats downstairs. She hears a lot of banging coming from the flat underneath her and wonders who and where is the mysterious Mr Bull. She also meets Ricardo. Father of Bettina who mysteriously up and left from the flat she now lives in. Gradually Libby begins to feel more and more unsafe and that someone is watching her. Is it Gary or Trevor? And how is it linked to a tragedy in her past?
This was a great page turner, but at times I found the events confusing as there wasn’t always detail for me. I still enjoyed it and it is a good read.
I seem to be in the minority here but this book just wasn't my cup of tea. I've really enjoyed books from the Detective Gina Hart series but I found this stand alone novel less exciting.
The first half of the novel is very slow as Kovach develops a lot of characters and background information. There's a lot of minor storylines going on and new characters introduce as she tries to plant some different options for the villain of the story. However, an astute reader will likely figure out the main culprit quickly. The character development and the dialogue felt a bit forced for me and I didn't feel much suspense at all.
However, around the 60% mark the boom picks up the pace tremendously and the end is redeeming. It is a short book, so even though the first half didn't feel engaging it is still a quick read. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a quick and easy read.

I found the book to be a somewhat slow starter but halfway through the story gains momentum and really takes you on a heart stopping ride. There were several grammatical errors that needed attention present & past tense changed from time to time. I loved that the chapters told the day that each thing was happening. There are lots of secrets and the early part of the story doesn't become relevant until more than half way through. I enjoyed the book but it took too long to get going. Initially there are four flats in the house and one seemingly occupied by a mysterious man Mr. Bull. Two girls share a flat, Tim the landlord & Libby the main character are the other occupants. The story centers on Libby, her job, her ex, and I waited for something to happen. And then it did. A satisfying conclusion. Very good book as are all of Carla Kovach's.
Finished last night and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. After walking away from an abusive and controlling relationship Libby thinks that she has found her safe haven. A lovely apartment with a lovely landlord, or so she thought. When things start to disappear in her apartment her first thoughts are that her ex is behind it. What happened to the girl that lived in her apartment and why is the tenant downstairs making so much noise. She will soon begin to regret moving there and find out that nice people can hide dark nasty secrets.
You will love this book, so much going on to keep you wanting to read on.
Wow another brilliant book from this author . Very tense throughout especially the crazy man who lives downstairs. The direction this book went in wasn’t what I expected . Can’t rate this book highly enough, i definitely recommend it . 5 stars from me and can’t wait for the next . We’ll done Carla
This author can do no wrong! Her books are well written and original and fast moving and enthralling. Absolutely loved this book. Would highly recommend to any new reader of her books.
I understand this is a re-write of a thriller that Carla Kovach originally published herself. Sure, the whole, young lady moves into a new flat and is stalked thing has been done a hundred times before, but the characters are so well depicted, there are so many possibilities and the tension is so well built, that this just works. It also helps that there is a cat called Einstein who pretty much stole the show for me. Such a consistent author.

4.5/5 🌟
Libby is trying very hard to escape the toxic relationship with Garry, her abusive bf. She went to see a new house which her landlord, Tim showed her and she became very happy. She thought she'd escaped her abusive relationship but then he moved in next door. And same things stated to happen again, same mind games. How will she escape this time?
Told from two timelines, twenty years back and present day this book is written wonderfully.
I loved the various and unexpected twists and turns.
Although I think that past story should've been edited better.
But it's a great read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.
I love this writer’s Gina Harte series, but this just didn’t hit the spot for me. I found that some parts were repetitive and it could have done with a big pruning, as it was overlong and plodding in places, which meant the tension was missing. It was also obvious who the perpetrator was for any thriller reader. The escape from the basement scene was also overlong and I’m afraid I got bored at this point. My favourite character was Chrissie, who was very believable. This is a standard ‘girl moves into new accommodation where there are secrets’ plot, which has already been done so many times. I’m sorry I didn’t love it, but this is my honest review, which I won’t post on any other channels.
I loved this creepy, twisty, suspenseful tale! A woman named Libby moves out the apartment she shares with her abusive boyfriend and into a seemingly wonderful flat with a friendly owner and other tenants. If something seems to be too good to be true, it probably is …. Even though the owner told her the prior tenant left to go travelling, the prior woman’s father comes to visit to figure out what happened to his missing daughter. Other eerie things happen that make you wonder if it is all in Libby’s mind or if someone is messing with her. She feels like she is being watched, and small belongings are missing. The sense of menace grew and grew and I raced through the last third to figure out what would happen!
3.5 stars
Libby is ready for a fresh start after leaving her abusive ex and renting a new apartment in Canal House. The apartment is affordable and her landlord and neighbors are friendly and welcoming. She feels so lucky, however, as the days go by, bizarre things start happening: her belongings going missing, weird noises coming from the downstairs apartment, and the sense that someone is watching her. When she learns that the girl who lived in the apartment before her went missing, she starts to wonder just how safe is her new home.
I seem to be in the minority when it comes to the rating of this book. Personally, I found the story to be very predictable. The culprit and the motive were easy to figure out. The only twist that came as a surprise to me was the culprit's sister. I did enjoy the tension-filled atmosphere and the setting. Libby was a likable enough character and I was interested in how things would turn out for her. In the end, I thought the story wrapped up nicely. If you're looking for a quick entertaining thriller, then I recommend this one.

Omg! I love it. This book is full of twists and so dark, it’s right up my street. A really interesting and well written thriller that pulls you in and drags you along for the ride. Absolutely fab!
A great standalone for you to enjoy, the only problem is, you may lose sleep as it’s always, just one more chapter!
Thank you to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for my arc.
