Well this has put me off ever moving into a complex in a hurry as this is one dark and twisted tale of obsession and revenge. When Olly flees her cheating and violent ex and moves into a new flat at first everything seems perfect and her new landlord and friends seem lovely but her ex just won’t let go and as she starts to feel scared in her own home she starts to see maybe things are not what they seem.
Another great read from one of my favourite authors who never lets me down. A great standalone book, which in my opinion, is her best standalone yet with such great characters. A very fast paced, twisty psychological thriller read for me which kept me turning the pages and held my interest from the beginning until the end with such a brilliant ending too.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC which I have no hesitation in recommending.
Behind closed doors is a secret someone is willing to kill for.
I walk into the bright, open living room of my new apartment, and I know this is the fresh start I’ve been dreaming about. As I double lock my pretty red door each night, I feel like I can finally be happy. I can finally be safe.
But when I’m woken one night by the sound of my neighbours arguing through the wall. I swear I hear one of them saying my name. Why would they be talking about me?
Michaela and Kirsty seem so nice, always stopping to chat when we pass in the hallway, and inviting me round for a glass of wine after work.
I know I’m being paranoid, but then my favourite hair clip goes missing and I start to feel like someone’s watching me.
Nobody was meant to know where I am. And I was careful. I did everything right. But I can’t help but fear my past has caught up with me and this time, I might not escape…
A really gripping psychological thriller that will have you captivated throughout totally recommend
Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture
I just reviewed The Houseshare by Carla Kovach. #TheHouseshare #NetGalley
I’m a big fan of Carla Kovach’s books and her writing never lets me down! The House Share was excellent, there is nothing not to love about this book from the characters to the pacing to the descriptions and everything in between.
PLOT:
Opening the door to my new home, I walk into the bright, open living room. This is the fresh start I’ve been dreaming about.
‘You’re just the tenant I’ve been looking for,’ the landlord says as he drops the keys into my hand. It’s just what I’ve been looking for too – as I double lock my doors each night, I feel like I can finally be happy. I can finally be safe.
But days later, I am woken by the sound of my neighbours arguing through the wall. I swear I hear my name being mentioned. Why would they be talking about me?
Then I discover that the girl who lived in my apartment before me went missing. Why did my landlord tell me she left to go travelling?
As the weeks pass, I’m certain that someone is following my every move. And I’m terrified to my core when I find a note in my apartment: He’s always watching.
When some of my belongings go missing from my bedroom, I know someone has been in my home – someone who doesn’t want me here. I fear my past has followed me and, this time, I might not escape…
You can read all of her other books right now, this one comes out on August 16.
Sharing a house… Whoohoo, right? There is almost always someone at home if or when you need help. There are shoulders to cry on or people to party with. People you can become the best of friends with or maybe even something more. 😊 You are never alone and you can feel safe.
On the other hand there are downsides, of course. Aren’t there everywhere though? You have to deal with the noise they make or sometimes you would rather not see anyone and hope no one comes and knocks on your door. From time to time you need your own space too.
I shared a house when I was a student and boy oh boy I hated every minute of it. I never felt safe and the mess some people leave behind in the communal rooms, it’s beyond belief. I was lucky my best friend rented a room there as well. We had each other to depend on. When she dropped college, I went home again. No way was I staying there on my own.
Maybe I was unlucky. Maybe I just picked the wrong house.
Now you all want to know about Libby’s experiences. Will she give this house share a 5 star rating or is she wishing she never set foot in there?
This is a psychological thriller. I suppose you more or less know the answer to the previous question already.
I can tell you it’s a great story with a few unexpected twists. That’s all you are going to hear from me. Sorry. 😉 I’ll leave it up to you to find out all the details from A to Z. There is only one thing left for you to do: get your copy and pick up your virtual key that opens the door to this house share.
One person was high on my list of suspects. To he honest they were the only one on my list. I did not know what had driven them though. Once again my heart was broken. I was a witness to what cruelty can do to someone. 4 stars
Thank you
Wow! What a crazy twisted story! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, and so many twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my kindle! I will definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC of Carla Kovac's The Houseshare.
A terrific stand alone by a favorite author. Intense. Chilling. A twist or two i did not see coming.
This book was sent to me by Netgalley for review…a group of characters who share a house with secrets…is there really another man on the house ? Is the ex stalking? What do the tenants expect from the landlord? What does he want? Intrigue and secrets…strangers in the same home…love…romance…is it real? Family dynamics…the past remembered…the present a surprise… this author is talented at weaving a story of intrigue…although the book moves slowly at times, it is still a good read.
3.5 rounded down
Libby moves into a new flat for a fresh start and an escape from a toxic relationship with Gary. She knows it’s time to grow up and stand on her own two feet. As her landlord Tim shows her round she thinks how lucky she is to have found somewhere so good at such an affordable price. However, as the weeks progress there are some troubling signs as Libby senses she is being watched. Further troubling pieces of information bubble to the surface and she questions just how safe she is in the new home she wants to be a haven.
First of all, the start is really good as it tracks back to twenty years ago. It’s upsetting but done extremely well and proves to be the rationale behind all that develops in the present day. Libby’s toxic relationship is also done well as she tries to escape the control and mind games. She is a good character and is likeable although at times you do want to shout at her because she does some foolish and impetuous things. Haven’t we all?!!! I especially like her close relationship with her sister Olly who is another good character.
I really enjoy the first half and find it hard to put down as the atmosphere is well conveyed and is creepy and claustrophobic. There’s some tension and suspense and plenty of things to think about. There is one good twist at the end that I don’t see coming but does make sense!
However, I don’t the second half is as strong as the first hence the rounded down rating. Things start to go round and round like a stuck record, there seems to be too many coincidences and you can see the ‘big twist’ of the perpetrator a mile off though I live in hope to be wrong! It’s a shame the second part doesn’t live up the the promise of the first as the premise and setting are so good. If you’re looking for an easy, entertaining beach type read then this may fit the bill!
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Bookouture for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
I so enjoy this authors books. very gripping and addictive. Libby has to leave her partner Gary he is abusive and controlling with her sisters help Olly. she finds a flat and leaves her apartment before he gets home. and takes her cat Einstein with her. she loves her new flat and Landlord Tim very nice and the two girls she forms a relationship with but someone is watching the flat. and then one morning a man Ricardo comes all the way from Italy to look for his daughter the last tenant she starts to feel scared. wont say no more but how it all comes together is brilliant I so recommend this authors books
Wow
Another phenomenal book from such a brilliant author whose books just keep getting better and better. This one was another standalone and was a brilliant page turning psychological thriller which kept you eagerly turning the page wanting to know more. I devoured this book in a day as I couldn’t put it down.
This was a book that held the reader in suspense and makes you think that people are not always as meets the eye and appearances on the outside can be deceptive
Please please can we have more from this author very soon. Highly recommend.
I couldn't get into this. The writing style rubbed me the wrong way and the plot was too predictable. Just not for me.
Slightly predictable and a bit stale, I wasn't a fan of this one. This wasn't written very well to me and I found it hard to really get into. Maybe it's because of all the phenomenal five star reads I read right before this so I was expecting more? I say it all the time but I don't like giving bad reviews so I will just leave it at that and leave it solely on Netgalley.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
I did really enjoy this and it had that suitable creepy, eerie vibe throughout. But.... it is incredibly predictable. There's quite a few parts to this story and various threads that all tie together beautifully at the end. For most thriller fans, it will be blatantly obvious who's behind it all..... even to the extent that you start too wonder if its written like that as a double bluff because it is so glaringly obvious from so early on but.... nah, it is that predictable. I don't think that took much of the enjoyment away from the book though and I was still keen to see if I'd be proved right! Plus, I have to say there is a massive twist that you absolutely won't see coming and it does add to the storyline massively. The characters are well written and individual, the toxic relationship is all too relatable and is written without being disrespectful towards domestic violence and abuse etc. It's not sensationalised for shock value or minimised and glossed over which I appreciated. Its a really enjoyable read and a fab way to pass a wkend
Once again Carla Kovach does not disappoint. This is a stand-alone novel and not part of the Gina Harte series which I love. The tone of this book was different from the Gina Harte series, less detective novel and a lot more suspense. I’m not sure I loved the different chapters from different characters view points, I can see how it worked better that way but personally I’m not a fan. I could definitely overlook that for the story though, I found myself really surprised by a lot of the twists in the book. Really looking forward to the next Gina Harte or stand-alone, just more Carla Kovach novels please.
Carla Kovach certainly knows how to write the type of book that makes the reader not want to leave it aside, in fact her books should come with a warning not to start unless you have plenty of time to keep reading. This like all the rest had my mind going in several directions as it certainly gave nothing away and I was torn between wanting to get to the end but I didn’t want it to finish. Hopefully it won’t be too long to wait for her next book.
Carla Kovach does it again! Loved this version of The Houseshare. Great characters that just delivered punch after punch! Huge on the creep factor which makes me love it even more. So many twists and turns.
Highly recommend
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book
I really enjoyed reading this book for the most part! It started off a bit slow, but once it picked up it got really good.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from Bookouture and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Chilling, well written, thought out story. Mark in all the right places, intense when called for.
Overall it was a decent book. The story and plot were interesting and suspenseful. The book just did not have the excitement that keeps me wanting more that I look for so it was a struggle to finish.
