Another case for detective partners Josie and Noah. They are returning from their honeymoon when fog causes them to pull in to the side of the road. At once a young girl streaks past them and appears to be bleeding. They see a car ahead that she has fled from and another girl dead inside.
The runaway girl hides and Josie and Noah try and find her and unearth what happened. More deaths occur that are linked to a local hotel, can they uncover the truth?
A good story with pace and more depth of character again for Josie and her team, a little focus on her past and troubled history also included.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a really good contemporary mystery/thriller set in a small town in Pennsylvania. Det. Josie Quinn and her husband Noah are driving home on a winding mountain road. As they are about to pull over on the shoulder due to dense fog, a young girl dashes across the road in front of them and into the woods. The duo get out of the car to investigate and find another car pulled over. As they approach, they see a man standing over another young girl strangling her. Josie gives chase but he gets away. The young girl in the car, Dina, is dead, but Josie and Noah have hope that the other girl, Alison, is alive.
As the town begins a frantic search for Alison, Josie finds out she may have been romantically linked to her supervisor at work. When they go to his home to confront him, he's found dead with a bullet hole in the head. His house is ransacked, just like Dina's car and purse. Clearly a killer is frantically searching for something and Josie wonders how many innocent lives will be lost before the killer is caught.
This is book 15 in the series and I haven't read any of the previous books. There was enough exposition in the book to fill me in on past details so I didn't feel like I missed too much from not having read the other books. I liked Josie's character. She's smart and tough, but still has compassion for others. Her detective husband Noah was supportive and was more of a supporting character in this book than a main character. The book flowed smoothly and the story continued to move forward without slowing down. I appreciated this because there is nothing worse than being in the middle of an engaging mystery and then a bunch of irrelevant fluff is added as filler and the mystery basically stops. Some of the aspects of the mystery was a bit far-fetched, but it wasn't a problem to suspend belief a bit because that's what escapism is for. The mystery wrapped up nicely and the ending was satisfying.
I probably won't go back and read the other books in the series, but I will definitely read more books moving forward. I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and Bookouture. All opinions are my own.
I love the Josie Quinn books it’s my favorite series. I couldn’t put this book down till I had read the whole thing. With each book we get to know and love the characters even more. This book is a great crime thriller with lots of twists. Can’t wait to read the next book in this series. Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for my arc.
Could not read it fast enough! I love this series, and this is a great addition to it! The suspense and mystery woven throughout was so good. The ending was a shock and I loved it. The cast is amazing (as always), the plot was riveting and the villain unsuspecting! Fantastic!

Review for 'Local Girl Missing' by Lisa Regan.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Lisa Regan, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous
Publication date 11th August 2022.
This is the fourth book I have read by this author. It is the fifteenth book in the 'Detective Josie Quinn' series. It can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Her Deadly Touch' which is the twelfth book in the series, 'The Drowning Girls' which is the thirteenth book in this series and 'Watch Her Disappear' which is the fourteenth book in this series. I would highly recommend them all whether read as standalones or in order as a whole series.
I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. I am a huge fan of Lisa and if this is half as good as 'Her Deadly Touch', 'The Drowning Girls' and 'Watch Her Disappear' it is guaranteed to be a page turner. The synopsis stated that this book is 'Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine'. I am a huge fan of Angela Marsons so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of 59 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in Pensylvannia, USA 🇺🇸
This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Detective Josie Quinn and "Pea" . The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
Well, Well, Well Lisa you have done it again!!! Another absolute mind blowing page turner!!!
This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that captivates the readers attention and places them right in the centre of the action. The cover and synopsis suited the storyline perfectly. Lisa writes in such engrossing and engaging way that I become completely absorbed in the storyline.
As soon as I started reading this book I fell straight back into the storyline from 'the end of 'Watch Her Disappear' as of I had just finished it. I have read well over 100 books since then which just goes to show how much of an affect on me and how memorable Lisa's books are.
The storyline was very fast paced, absolutely nerve-racking and heart racing and kept me consistently on the edge of my seat. I was biting my nails and turning the pages until I finished it in one sitting. This book is ram packed with drama, murder, tension, red herrings, suspense, action, drugs, secrets and I could go on. This book has everything and more that you want in a crime thriller. It is unique and realistic as well as being fast paced. There was constantly something happening and it left me questioning myself throughout the book.I believe this was one of the most fast paced and action packed books in this series so far especially considering who was involved and how much was going on. The scene at the end I was trying not too close my eyes like I would in a film!! Madness but OMG iit was sooo tense and my heart was absolutely pounding, I don't think there's much left of my nails now either lol!!! Lisa and Josie what the hell are you doing to me!!! I never did guess who was involved so a huge congratulations Lisa!!! It is getting harder and harder to surprise me but you had me hook, line and sinker!!! I cannot wait to get my hands on all previous and future books of yours!!!
It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.
Although this is the fifteenth book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.
Clear your schedules before picking this up as you will not be able to put it down!!!
I read approximately half of this book on kindle and listened to approximately half on audio book. I must also give a huge congratulations to the narrator Kate Handford who not only brought the storyline to life by really portraying the emotions through his voice but by doing absolutely fantastic impressions of males and females so a HUGE congratulations Kate!! I cannot imagine that this was anywhere near an easy feat!!! I am looking forward to discovering more books read by yourself as you definitely have a perfect "book" voice!! I sometimes struggle to absorb the storyline through an audio book but if you are the same as me I can promise you will not have that problem with this amazing narrator!!
I absolutely loved meeting all the characters again and it really felt like I was meeting up with old friends I got to know them so well in the last book! I absolutely love Josie's down to earth personality. Josie has suffered a horrific loss and instead of being the type or person to let it either overwhelm her or the type who completely gets on with life and forgets she is in the middle. Not only is Josie a strong female lead but Gretchen is also a fantastic female model and I love the bond between the two women. They make an absolutely fantastic team and the dynamic between not only Josie and Gretchen is spot on but also with them and Noah, Mettner, Amber and Chief Chitwood. I was pleased that we have seen a completely different side to Chief Chitwood since 'Watch Her Disappear' and, although I liked him anyway, it has definitely made me feel "closer" to him and I'm looking forward to seeing what he is going to do now!!! I absolutely love watching Noah and Josie's relationship continue to develop since their not so romantic honeymoon. They both deserve to be happy and make a perfect couple. I'm torn about what to think about Needle. I know what he has done in the past and disagree with that but I do think that he tries to, and has in my eyes, make it up to Josie and the last chapter definitely intrigued me. Will we be seeing more of Needle I wonder? I would love too I know that for sure. Every single character in this book "played their parts" perfectly to make an absolutely fantastic and memorable team who I love meeting every time I pick up one of Lisa's books.
Congratulations Lisa Regan on yet ANOTHER absolutely fantastic action packed book and this is why your in my top 10 crime author list and why this series is in my top 5 list!! Looking forward to the next episode in this amazing series 🥂

'Local Girl Missing' is a very gripping story by Lisa Regan. It is the 15 th in the Detective Josie Winn series and as everytime, the story takes you through a roller coaster ride of situations towards a very unpredictable ending.
Alison and Dina two high school students work at a local hotel as catering staff. On their way to work they are attacked by a person who also gets caught but the story is not what it superficially seems. So what is the murderer hiding and who is behind the murder of Dina Hale? Read the story to find out.
The story initially takes us slowly through the case and investigation but in the last 109 pages it really gets fast paced. A parallel story of a young girl is also going on andbthe connection gets revealed at the end. Detective Josie's fast thinking and her partner Noah's help in the case reveals a lot about their chemistry. All the other characters lend great support and the end is surprising.
If you live to read murder mysteries with layered story and love unexpected endings then this story is for you.
I thank Netagalley and Bookouture for accepting my review request. The opinions expressed are all mine.
Local Girl Missing by Lisa Regan is another of the excellent Detective Josie Quinn series. Josie has slayed most of her demons and is living as “normal” a life as possible for a homicide detective. She and her detective husband, Noah Fraley, are returning from their honeymoon, which was taken a year after they were married. They are back a day early but it was that or face a hurricane. The roads are really foggy and Josie is about to pull over when she sees a young woman run in front of her and disappear into the fog. Concerned, she parks and they check the direction from which the woman was running. There they see a man and woman on the ground, the man strangling the woman. They call out and the man takes off. Josie chases him while Noah sees to the victim and calls for backup. The man Josie is chasing jumps into the river, but not before she got a good look at him. Noah’s victim is dead and the woman who ran is nowhere in sight. They don’t even know who she is.
Josie Quinn has lived a scatttered life and recovered from untold issues to a place of happiness, much of it due to Noah being in her life. She is a well-written character who has shown major growth during the series. The plot was good and believable. It took a while for the police to solve the issues but Josie has been a cop so long she has contacts everywhere and they are always able to help. It’s an intriguing read with all the regulars on the job, making it even more interesting, with all their life issues. I recommend Lisa Regan and her heroine, Josie Quinn, if you like police procedurals.

Local missing girl by Lisa Regan.
Detective Josie Quinn Book 15.
The old Victorian pier was were twenty-one-year-old Sophie Collier vanished eighteen years ago. Will she ever be found?
A brilliant read. I love Lisa's books. I really don't want this series to end. 5*.
Ahrrr, Josie and Noah are finally married and I am delighted for one of my favourite couples series :).
I love Josie and Noah like I know them personally by now and really miss them when the book finishes, this is how much I am hooked on this series!!!
The pace is as ever spot on. Hold onto the ride and enjoy.
The mystery plot is once again very satisfying with much twist and turns.
I am now eagerly awaiting for the next installment as Lisa Regan can do no wrong with me, keep them coming!!!
Josie and Noah, on their way home from their honeymoon a dense a fog makes slow going, all of a sudden, a scream and a girl runs past them into the woods. They stop and find a car parked and man with his hands around another girl’s neck – Josie gives chase but the man rather jumps into the creek that facing whatever lays ahead. The girl at the car is dead and the runaway girl is missing … the race is on, find missing girl, the guy that jumped …
Lots of twists and turns and I totally not say the ending coming. Page turner from page 1
Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced readers copy.
Detective Josie Quinn and her new husband Noah Fraley, also a police officer, are driving home after their delayed honeymoon. Driving slow due to intense fog, they spot a girl running. Of course, they stop. They see a man attacking a teenage girl. This is only the start of a very difficult case for Josie. Sadly, the girl was murdered and her name was Dina. It is her best friend Alison who was running and has now has gone missing.
Not only does the young girl, Alison, remain missing, causing her parents real terror, Josie wonders why the girl did not return home. Josie is quite concerned as to why they are having so much trouble locating her. Furthermore, Dina’s autopsy revealed something shocking, thus increasing the urgency to find Alison as soon as possible.
More questions than answers plague Josie as she realizes that she and her team are in a race against time. As they are begin to interview the man who murdered Dina, at first his crime does not match the man he portends to be. Quite naturally, Josie realizes that there are some deeply hidden facts that instigated the murder, and realize that Alison is most certainly in grave danger.
Like pieces of the most complicated of jigsaw puzzles, the pieces of evidence surrounding these crimes just will not fit into place. This installment in the Detective Josie Quinn series is fast-paced, multi-layered and illustrates the incredible talent of deduction that Josie has as she unravels the nuances of this difficult case.
There is mention of Josie’s painful past, and that would make this book work as a stand-alone. However, Josie’s story is sensitive and her growth, her marriage to Noah, and her relationship with her family all evolve at a wonderful pace as each and every book in this series is written for those of us who are addicted to this compelling series. Lisa Regan is a true master and did not miss a beat with Local Girl Missing, proving that this stellar series is as strong as ever.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

4.5 stars!
Local Girl Missing by Lisa Regan is her 15th entry in the Detective Josie Quinn series. I have read a few of Regan’s books in the past, but found that this novel could be a stand-alone thriller. There are some references to previous books, but they never distract from the current case, that of a teenage girl murdered and her best friend on the run and hiding.
Josie hunts for the missing girl and hopes to find her before more violence can occur. As she investigates, she uncovers drugs dealers, mob figures and townspeople with complicated lives and long-held secrets.
This is an intelligent fast-moving police procedural. The short, staccato chapters add to the intensity of the story’s pace. I found the main characters—Detective Josie Quinn, her husband and police partner Noah—well-developed and believable. Great action scenes and interspersed chapters featuring a mysterious girl named Pea elevate this story to a top-notch detective novel. I highly recommend this thriller and I will definitely be looking for more of Lisa Regan’s books in this series!
Thank you to Bookoutre and NetGalley for the ARC. This is my honest review.
Book 15! How did that happen!?
Another great addition to this cracking series. A brilliant rollercoaster of a main plot and lovely to catch up with the characters in the sub plot. This is a gripping read that will grab you from the first page and won’t let you go while it keeps you guessing as you’re led down many a false path until the final brilliant twist
Wow, I cannot believe we are on book 15 of this series! With every book I think that Lisa cannot do better but she does. This book has very little background story for the characters and is really focused on the case. Josie and the team have all come a long way since book 1 but this book can easily be read as a a standalone.
Josie and the team are seriously stumped by this one. This case had it all. There was so much going on that made no sense at all. As Josie and the team uncover secret after secret you think you are starting to get somewhere but it just led to more questions.
This book is action-packed, from the very first page and it doesn't let up until the very end. The book was fast-paced and never really lets up.
If you want a shocking, action-packed thriller then pick up this one today.
I am delighted to be catching up with the latest happenings in this great series featuring Detective Josie Quinn, written by Lisa Regan. I dived into this series at book nine, and there are some blanks filled in excellently in this novel, Local Girl Missing if you are starting the series here. It was captivating, and a briskly-paced police procedural with more than enough action taking place to retain my interest. Once hooked, I was glued to the pages and it was a ride of surprises along with the stylish and tense plot. The story effortlessly flowed and there was never a dull moment as the plot beelined for the finale. Josie makes a tough, determined and admirable protagonist and once again, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with her. Local Girl Missing contains drama, suspense and tension by the shedload and I highly recommend this immersive novel which will delight all readers, both series stalwarts and new readers. I am eagerly anticipating what Lisa Regan has in store for Josie Quinn next!
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture, via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion.
What a ride! It starts with a bang and never stopped surprising me. it was like peeling an onion: there's something on the top but there's core you will discover only after you peeled.
It starts with a missing girl and another one killed, secrets. It's one of those cases when you never know who can be trusted.
Fast paced, adrenaline-filled, twisty. Lisa Regan delivers a great story, the best so far.
It's a page turner that kept me reading till late as I wanted to know what happened.
I had fun and thoroughly enjoyed. I loved how Josie is more relaxed and less tormented and i was glad to catch up with the fleshed characters of this series.
It can be read as a stand alone but I recommend to read the rest of the series.
This one is strongly recommended.
Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Local Girl missing – the title says it all, the search for this girl and the question why her friend died are keeping Josie and her team busy. As always this case was packed with action and new developments every few pages. Josies team works great together, in this case she worked close with Noah which I loved. A lot of my favorite characters had apperances and I also really liked the change with the Chief after the previous book.
I really enjoyed not knowing what really was going on for the majority of the book and the ending was surprising. I look forward to the next book, I can’t wait to spend time with Josie and her team again!
I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author Lisa Regan for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
How much do I love this series?? A whole lot, that's what!
Josie and Noah are on their way home in heavy fog, when they come across a vehicle on the side of the road. One girl streaks across the road and into the woods, the other girl needs their help. This is one very twisty, turny mystery indeed!
I really don't want to say too much because I don't want to give the plot away, but so much is happening here. I do love the fact that Josie and Noah finally got married but they are very professional at work. I think their being married adds another layer to their characters. Denton, however, is a bit of a worry. So many people are not who they seem to be!
Lots and lots of threads which are effortlessly woven together by the author.
5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.
Wow, another belter from Lisa. It was shocking and terrifying in some places. A powerful start with the fog causing a dark and damming beginning, causing confusion which followed through in the book.
This was not a story I was expecting. I loved how Lisa brings the mundane into the story and little quips to make everything feel so realistic. Things like eating when they can and turning their phones off when they are about to raid somewhere. Things that you don’t think about but I loved that they were pointed out and explained. Like I said things feel more realistic and you get to gel with the characters so much more because of it!
Josie has a tough case this time and when not all the facts are given she has a tough time trying to solve it. I felt like I was right there with her, except I had more information than her through the chapters by Pea. What harrowing chapters they were, I was guessing who Pea was throughout and I think I got there on my 2nd guess but I didn’t connect the dots with another character who was linked, I love how important people can be that you would never expect!! There are some twists and things that just don’t add up and man there were some shocking things, but I love how we can follow the investigation too. We are part of the team!
The one thing I want to know more about is the bouncy castle and the party, I mean come on that sounded like fun!
I love this series and I know I say that every time but it’s true. I am completely invested in these characters and Josie and Noah are two of my favs. I love the team and I love the way how they all work together. A well-oiled machine. I can’t wait for the next outing with them.
LOCAL GIRL MISSING By Lisa Regan
Detective Josie Quinn and her husband Noah are returning from their honeymoon struggling to drive through a very thick morning fog when suddenly they stumble upon a man attacking a girl and another girl running away.
What i liked -
This is the 15th book in the series, but can be read as a standalone.
The storyline is interesting , it pulls you into the investigation. I was at times coming up with my own maybes and my own suspects.
I liked how quick paced and full of twists this book was, A total page turner.
The character buildup is spot on .
The writing is extremely powerful and I am amazed how the author kept adding layers to keep me at the edge at all times. Just when I used to get the Ah haan moment , another revelation happened.
I liked the Police Procedural , very Blue blood, Criminal Mind feeling.
What could have been better -
I was a tad bit disappointed with the end but only a tad bit.
Who Should read :
Beginner's
