Where have I been??

I picked this book up as a stand alone review from Netgalley and WOW am I so happy I was approved to read it. This is book 15 in the Josie Quinn Series and I loved it. You can tell that Lisa Regan has wonderful character development because I am left with a strong desire to run right to the first book and not come up until I catch up with this series.

This particular book was very enjoyable as a standalone and I am glad to say that my leading suspect was not the one "who did it"... I love it when I can't guess who did it. Great book!

4.5 stars - Book #15 in the Josie Quinn Series.

I'm really a fan of the Josie Quinn series but I must say I can't wait for more character development! I feel like the last couple of books have been pretty stagnant. Don't get me wrong I still love the books and Lisa is an exceptional writer, I'm just missing a bit of Josie's spark!

This one was relatively slow-paced but contained some twists I definitely did not see coming! I love how we got "Past" chapters from a mystery person; it really added an air of mystery to this puzzle!

Overall great story, amazing characters, and an excellent ending! I cannot wait for more character progress, hopefully in the next one! Highly recommend this series!

Again. Lisa Regan has done it again with another slam-dunk winner of a book that I could barely tear myself away from. (For my other reviews of books in the Detective Josie Quinn series, go here, here, here, here, and here.) Seriously. I had to keep sneaking peeks on the Kindle app on my phone when I couldn’t quite finish the book on my lunch hour. I was at 87% and I could.not.wait until I got home to see what happened!

Josie and Noah are coming back from their long delayed and much deserved honeymoon, driving home on a very foggy road, when someone dashes in front of their car. They stop to try to help and come upon a man choking a teenage girl, demanding to know where “it” is. As Noah tries to save the girl, Josie pursues the man. But he evades her when he jumps off a precipice and disappears, not caring if he lives and seemingly hoping he dies. As they investigate the scene, they realize Dina Hale is dead. Her friend and passenger, Alison Mills, was able to flee and was presumably the person who ran in front of their car. With the killer possibly still on the loose, finding Alison becomes of utmost importance.

The more Josie and Noah and the team dug into the case, the more questions they face. Who is the killer? What is his connection to the two girls? What had the girls stumbled onto, that someone (the killer? Someone else?) would go to such lengths to get it back?

Y’all. The tension in this book is unbelievable. The misdirections, the shifting of gears, the pulling away of things I thought I had figured out. Lisa Regan is a master of the thriller/police procedural, I tell you. I’m not sure anyone does it better. The killer is identified pretty early in the story, but that’s just the tip of the suspenseful iceberg. One character’s backstory is told in flashbacks, and we don’t know who she really is until late-ish in the story. And we don’t know for most of the book who the real mastermind behind all of this is.

When the penny dropped? My jaw hit. the. floor. I did not see it coming, and what a reveal! I absolutely adore a book that can keep me in the dark until the end, and Regan has done that with every book of hers that I’ve read.

It made me happy that Josie and Noah finally got their honeymoon. They deserve to be happy together. Trout, Josie’s dog, is a delightful character. I love their interactions with him. And I really like how the team all works together. Nobody squibbles about not wanting a particular assignment. When Josie texts Chief Chitwood in the middle of the night, he tells her to go back to sleep after he responds. When she doesn’t, he’s up and out, helping her and Noah track down whatever lead she’s thought of in the wee hours. They’re supportive of each other and genuinely kind to each other, and that’s a treat to read, especially considering the difficulty inherent in their work.

If you want a rip-snortin’, hang-on-for-dear-life, screaming rollercoaster of a thrill in book form, you’ll want to make the acquaintance of Detective Josie Quinn. This one can be read alone, but do yourself a favor and start at the beginning of the series. Then binge ’em all.

Five stars. I’ll read whatever Lisa Regan writes without even looking at the blurb. She’s on my short list.

This is book 15 in the Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan. It is a standalone novel that can be read without reading the other 14 books in the series, but why would you do that? Start with book 1, you won’t regret it.

When I read book 1, I didn’t initially like Josie. But the story was well written and I’m always in need of books to read. I kept reading the series, and by book 3, the character growth in Josie had me hooked. And here I am, 15 books in and loving every addition to the series.

Lisa has a fantastic ability to describe the scenery in a way that puts you right into the story. Denton, Pennsylvania, is a fictional town, but she’s described it so well that I can literally picture it in my head.

Her characters are well fleshed out, and every book leaves you wanting to know more and to see these characters again.

This story opens in the swirling dawn fog when Detective Josie Quinn and her husband, returning from their belated honeymoon, stumble across a girl in the middle of the road. This eventually leads them to a man and a dead body. From then on, the chase is on.

And there are many chases in this book: literally chasing the man, chasing down the girl from the road, and chasing down leads to solve a murder ~ you will definitely be kept on your toes.

The man: Elliott Calvert – married to Tori, father to five-month-old Amalise.

The girls: Dina Hale and Alison Mills—co-workers and best friends.

Their worlds collide, but what do a married father and two 17-year-old girls have in common?

The ending to it all won’t be what you suspect.

Josie, Noah, and the gang are all back with some cameos by other beloved characters. Join them all on this twisted murder/missing person case.

Lisa Regan has hit it out of the ballpark yet again!!!!

Local Girl Missing is another hard to put down, pulse pounding addition to the Josie Quinn series! This book could very easily be read as a stand-alone as Lisa Regan is fantastic at filling in the blanks for readers who may not have read the previous books. However, this series, which is one of my favorites, is fantastic, that I highly recommend starting at the beginning. You will be happy you did. There is so much character development and the cases are gripping and captivating.

Josie and Noah are coming back from their honeymoon (yay! they finally took one!) and have pulled off the road due to heavy fog. A person runs in front of their car and as Josie and Noah get out of the car to investigate, they walk into a crime in progress. Things take off from there and never stop. Woohoo!!!

The investigation hits some roadblocks but that never stops Josie or her team. They don't go over the roadblocks- they go through them! As Josie, Noah, Gretchen and the rest of the team work around the clock to solve the case, they find that nothing is as it seems, danger is lurking around the corner and not everyone is telling the truth.

This book was seriously addictive, and I did not want to put it down. There is plenty of action, twists, and revelations. I was intrigued and wanted to know who the character in the italicized sections was. I love doing my own super sleuthing in mystery books and Regan did a good job, keeping me in the dark and guessing.

If you have not read a book by Lisa Regan, you are missing out!

Pulse pounding, gripping and tense!

This is a complicated, multi-level story that will have you on the edge of your seat as Josie works to solve the killing of local girl and what happened to the dead girl's best friend. Just when you think you know where the story is going, there are twists thrown in the path. And as the answers start to appear, the pace of the story turns up another notch. The suspense will keep you up wanting to know what happens.

This is a crime thriller series I can't resist
And this is a story that shouldn't be missed.
Lieutenant Noah Fraley and Detective Josie Quinn
Must be thinking they just can't win!

Returning after their delayed honeymoon they see
A desperate teenager running to stay free.
Next appears from the foggy gloom,
Another teenager who has met her doom.

Two young friends attacked but why?
What had made someone want them to die?
They were on their way to work at a local hotel.
Was it something there that rang their death knell?

A gripping, intriguing and enthralling crime thriller
With secrets galore and more than one killer
It had me turning the pages, not wanting to put it down,
Any interruptions were met with a frown!

A riveting read, a great addition to this series
Although book fifteen, my enjoyment never wearies.
Josie, Noah and the team are so familiar now
They feel like folks I really know somehow!

If you enjoy crime thrillers, this is one book you'll need.
It truly is a thoroughly enjoyable read
For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.

What a freakin' hot mess this book was! Gritty, ugly, and not polished at all. Just like real crime in real life. Once again Josie and her husband and their fellow members of the police department in Denton find themselves with an oversized crime. As they start chipping away at it, instead of getting closer to what happened, it feels like they are just uncovering more problems that need solving. I will admit that there were a few huge clues that gave away some of what was going on but I know had it been in real life, I wouldn't have caught them. When you read this book, after reading the first 14 in this stellar series, you will finish by shaking your head and catching your breath. Then you will ask: when is the next one being published?

Local Girl Missing by Lisa Regan is the 15th book in the Detective Josie Quinn series, but works well as a standalone. Josie and her husband Lieutenant Noah Fraley are on the way home from their belated honeymoon when they drive right into a crime scene. One young woman is dead on the ground and the other has disappeared. Josie, Noah, and the rest of their Denton, Pennsylvania Police Department team are determined to get justice for Dina and find her best friend, Alison, who may also be in danger.

I look forward to reading each new book in this series. Josie is a likable, strong female character and I love seeing her work with Noah as well as with another member of her team, Detective Gretchen Palmer, on the investigation. Both witnesses and suspects are keeping secrets, and the plot has twists and turns I never saw coming. The book is fast-paced and suspenseful, and the solution to the case is complex. I can't say too much without spoiling the story, but Local Girl Missing is one of my favorites of the series and was a five-star read for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advance copy of this ebook.

Returning from their honeymoon, Detective Josie Quinn and her husband Lt. Noah Fraley, arrive just in time to witness a murder. Two girls were attacked with one injured, who escaped, while the other one was murdered. They were able to track down and arrest the killer, but the other girl is missing. The killer was looking for something, but he won’t talk. As they continue their search for the missing girl, their investigation leads them to a hotel where the girls worked evening events. As Josie and Noah question the hotel staff, they learn that the event coordinator appears to be missing as well. Josie has an idea where the missing girl might be, but will she find her before it is too late? Homes are being searched while other people have been injured as someone is desperate to locate what the murdered girl may have taken. There are many surprising twists to the case as they fear how many will die before they solve this baffling mystery? 4.5 stars

Local Girl Missing by Lisa Regan is the 15th in the Detective Josie Quinn series.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Series Background:    (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books)
Detective Josie Quinn has had a rough life,  and she still grieves the loss of her beloved grandmother, who was the only one she could rely on. As a baby, Josie had been kidnapped, and passed off as another woman's child.  Recently she has found her real parents, as well as her twin sister - news reporter Trinity Payne,  and her brother Patrick.   She works with the Denton Police Department, and her team consists of Detective Noah Fraley (her husband), Detective Gretchen Palmer, and Detective Finn Mettner (who is dating Press Secretary Amber Watts).  Their boss is Chief Bob Chitwood.

My Synopsis:    (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
On the way home from their honeymoon, Josie and Noah find themselves creeping along the winding mountain road in dense fog.  Suddenly,  a young girl runs out in front of them and off into the forest.   Then they interrupt a man on the ground strangling another young girl.  Noah goes to her assistance, while Josie chases the man.

The two girls, 18-year old Dina, and 17-year old Alison, were best friends, both waitresses at the local hotel.  Dina didn't survive the strangulation, but Josie is determined to find Alison.

However, that is harder than she thought it would be.  It seems like Alison is hiding, and she may have good reasons for it.  Apparently she may have something that more than one person is looking to find, and killing to locate it isn't beyond the realm of possibilities.

My Opinions:
Each book in the series could be stand-alone, but you'd miss so much of the characters back-stories....

I really think the series is getting better - and after 15 books, that is a little surprising!

There were definitely a couple of twists that I did not see coming, and the story progressed at a good pace, making it a fairly fast read.

My only complaint would be the political/mob involvement, but that's just because I don't like those topics, and I try to stay away from reading books of that genre.  However, the rest of this book was so good, that I barely batted an eye.

Definitely looking forward to the next in the series!

This was my first novel by Regan, and also the first in her series about Josie Quinn. Even if I hadn’t read any of the previous books, it didn’t matter. The book described what had happened in previous books effectively without getting in distracting me.

It was obvious that the author has expertise about police investigations. Josie and her husband gets in the middle of a homicide by chance and get involved with the investigation. From there on you felt the clock ticking with every person who was questioned, slowly unraveling the complicated truth. There were a lot of surprises; just when you thought the detectives had all the answers there was another layer and new questions. I liked how the conversations were flowing, interspersed with interesting observations about the people Josie and her team encountered. I also loved Josie and Noah’s relationship. It was a welcome contrast to all the pain and suffering. Regan describes the minds of a diverse group of characters, making it an interesting read.

The last chapters were so suspenseful that it was impossible to not continue reading.

The only negative thing to say was that I found some parts a bit too convenient. There was a lot of lucky guesses, but also some really brilliant ideas by Josie and her team.

Thanks to netgally and bookatoure for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

Book Title: Local Girl Missing
Series: Josie Quinn #15
Author: Lisa Regan
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Pub Date: August 11, 2022
My Rating: 4 Stars

I got on the Lisa Regan/Josie Quinn train late but after reading only one book I became a fan!!!

In this story Detective Josie Quinn and her husband Noah are just returning from a delayed honeymoon ~eighteen month after their wedding they finally get to go to St. Thomas.
Josie and Noah both work for the Denton Police Department in Central Pennsylvania: Josie is a detective and Noah a lieutenant. They are returning home and have been on the road for many hours. The fog is so dense it is exhausting driving. They decide to pull over to rest as well as hope the fog lifts some. When they stop they hear a girl crying and see a man strangling her shouting “Where is it?” They see another girl who takes off running. Josie shouts “Stop-Denton Police” but the neither the girl not the man stops. In fact, he jumps over the ridge into ‘Roaring Creek’.
Noah stayed with the injured girl and did CPR but she died. They find two cars in the area one belongs to Elliott Calvert and the other Dina Hale. Dina is the dead teenage and her best friend is Alison Mills. They are sure the missing man is Calvert and the girl Alison,

Hold onto your seat as the ride has just begun.!

I am a big mystery fan and love to try to figure out whodunit or in this case ~ What is really going on”.
I was so sure I was in the know ~ ha-ha ~however, it is true that I certainly didn’t have the details!!!

Lisa Regan never disappoints!

Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early eGalley.

Lisa Regan’s Detective Josie Quinn Series is now at Book 15 and Local Girl Missing is that one. Wether you started at Book 1 or anywhere in between you will not be disappointed! Ms. Regan writes another fast paced, well written story that will knock your socks off!!! It is a gripping suspenseful story with many twist and turns and ups and downs. This is by far one of the best series going, I don’t know how Lisa Regan does it but I hope she never stops! This is a must read and like always, I look forward to the next one!!!

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Lisa Regan for the honor to read and review this captivating story.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily. Detective Josie Quinn and her husband and partner, Noah, are returning to town after their honeymoon. They do not have to wait long to get back to work. On a foggy road they find a girl on the side of the road who has been brutally slain. There is evidence that there was another girl with her, but she is nowhere to be found. This discovery causes the town of Denton to start a massive hunt for a young girl who is hopefully alive. From that point forward you will be drawn into a mysterious maze of people intent on keeping a secret at all costs. You will not fully understand this secret until you get deeper into the book. Lisa Regan knows how to build a mystery until the interesting and explosive climax. I absolutely love the characters in this book and this series. There is a "mysterious" character that is referenced in chapters scattered throughout the book that you will more fully understand in the end. Roadblocks and armed henchmen do not deter Detective Josie Quinn from her quest to solve a mystery and a murder. This is another action packed, nail biting mystery by a very talented author. This is book #15 in this series. You can read it as a standalone. However, I highly recommend that you read this one, and then start at the beginning from book #1! This will make you more fully appreciate the characters and where they come from and where they have been. This will be another hit from Lisa Regan!

As Detective Josie Quinn and husband and fellow Detective Noah Fraley crawl along the backroad on their way home from their honeymoon, the fog making it impossible to see two feet in front of their vehicle, their decision to stop saw them hear a piercing scream, followed by the vision of a man choking a young woman to death beside her car. As Josie tried to apprehend the man, chasing him into the nearby bush, Noah was resuscitating the young woman. Dina Hale didn't make it, but her friend and passenger to the vehicle had managed to escape. But would they find her before someone else did?

Alison Mills was on the run and with the Denton, Pennsylvania police force searching for her, as well as trying to find their attacker, Josie, Noah and Gretchen along with the rest of the team, tried to work out what had caused the attack - what was behind it all. Was it drugs, or was it something far more sinister? When another body was discovered, Josie and Noah could feel the clock ticking faster...

Local Girl Missing is the 15th in this addictive Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan, and I loved it once again! I can't believe the imagination of the author who has such different and difficult cases for the detectives, each and every episode. The characters are outstanding, the closeness of the team and how they work together with ease, is well done. I'm already looking forward to #16! Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

The 15th installment of the Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan was a twisted story that grips you from the very first chapter. A foggy road that sets the scene for this story that lets you know the investigation will get murky just like the weather. I haven't been reading many books in the series, but you don't need to read in order to enjoy this book. One thing the author does well is draw you into the characters and the story at hand where the past doesn't play a significant part to what is going on.
A murder in progress gets Josie and Noah engaged from the start. One girl is murdered and the other gets away along with the killer. What was the killer looking for? Was he stalking them? What were these two young girls into? As the investigation continues with the help from Trinity and Gretchen we are left with more questions than answers. In true Josie fashion she gets engrossed to the point of obsession. We the reader are right there with her as she interviews suspects. The twists and turns of the evidence and the return of Needle brings suspense to new heights.
Lisa Regan knows how to write a mystery novel. You believe in these characters and challenge yourself to figure out the story. I love Josie Quinn as a lead. She is broken and yet strong, and the more you read, the more you just want to keep reading. I highly recommend this book and the series. Can't wait for the next in the series and hoping it never ends!

Lisa Regan has done it again. Just when I think she can't outdo the last book in this amazing series, she goes and blows my mind again. Josie Quinn has become one of my all time favorite series and this book might be the best one yet. Do yourself a favor and check out this fabulous series.

Local Girl Missing by Lisa Regan is book #15 in the Detective Josie Quinn series. This is a very suspenseful, fast-paced police procedural murder mystery. The storyline is complex and compelling. This is a well-written story with likable characters and nasty bad guys. I read the first book in the series, Vanishing Girls. A lot has changed in Jocie Quinn's life since that first book. With some of the changes , especially with Noah, it doesn't feel as though it is centered as much on Jocie Quinn. This book can be read as a standalone but I think the enjoyment of the read would be enhanced by reading the earlier books. I plan to head back and read the earlier books when I can to see how all the changes happened.
