Omg beginners? LOL some of it went over my head but it may just be me.. for some reason, as much as I love the idea of quilting, it just hasn't been something I have been able to immediately grasp.. much like crochet or knitting.... sighs.. great ideas and tips though. Makes for a fun afternoon activity.

As a self-taught quilter who has been quilting for over 5 years now, I felt comfortable in the basics of quilt making and sewing overall. Nonetheless, I wanted to review a beginner's quilting book to brush up on the basics. This book is PHENOMENAL! I wish I would have had it when I was learning 5 years ago. I didn't gain much new information from the basics of quilting (which was to be expected of course); however, the troubleshooting mistakes section and quilting confidence section had helpful insights that improved my quilting now. I love the idea of not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good, and that a finished quilt is better than a perfect quilt that never gets done. I really enjoyed these sections, and I would recommend the entire book to new and experienced quilters a like.

Thank you NetGalley, the Editors of Quarry Books, and New Shoe Press for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

This book is a collection of easy starting projects for wannabe quilters. It focuses on smaller projects instead of bigger ones, making it a good way to begin the hobby.
As the blurb mentions, it goes into all the basic introduction, making it a good gift for someone wanting to start.
I was unable to try out any of the projects, therefore, cannot provide a more involved review than this brief note.

Truly one of the best quilting guides I’ve come across. Takes the intimidation out of starting a project for beginners. Thank you netgalley and publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

What a great find! I loved this detailed guide to quilting and not only for its gorgeous pictures but for all of its packed features. It goes through a basic machine and its parts, how to tell quality fabrics and where best to cut them, how to quilt for beginners with tips for both machine and hand sewing and many tips and tricks. It taught me some cool things and I already have sewn a couple already! My favourite part has to be the little projects in the back of the book and can't wait to try the Christmas stocking and dolls blanket. A definite buy for my collection.
Many thanks to this author and Netgalley for providing a temporary copy in exchange for an honest review.

If you have thought about learning how to quilt or if you just want to improve some of your skills this is the book for you. If you are just starting out you would greatly benefit from using this book to help you quilt like a pro. It is full of pictures and diagrams and if you are like me that is a must. The book goes into details about how to make sure you get the most from your sewing machine and how to have all the buttons and dials set to the appropriate settings. It goes into details about the tools you will need such as a rotary cutter and how to use this tool correctly and safely. This book will be by my side as I continue to improve my quilting techniques.

This book provides basic instructions for the beginner, from the basics of sewing, on to the techniques common to quilting. In some respects, it seems to take on more than can easily be managed. For instance, the book begins with the basics of a sewing machine, winding & threading the bobbin, and sewing seams. The latter seems to be a bit premature, as things like selecting quilt patterns and fabric or cutting the pieces ought to come before sewing them together. Similarly, the section on pressing ought to immediately follow the section on seams, rather than be in the "quilting supplies" section. In summary, I think it would be more useful to a beginner to take them through the process chronologically, starting with supplies needed, then selecting pattern and fabric. Leave the sewing and pressing until later.

Organizational issues aside, the actual instructions for making the various patterns included in the second half of the book are quite good. There are illustrations for each step, that will make the process easier for the beginner to understand. Some of the patterns seem a tad challenging for a beginner (especially the paper piecing and the quilt with the stars). But, they do allow a progression from very simple to more difficult.

So, overall, I can't recommend this book as it's currently organized. It has great potential if the first part were organized chronologically, since the instructions themselves are well done.

I loved this as a complete beginner to quilting, but with aspirations!

The first section on equipment and terminology was a great primer and the projects themselves were well explained. I think it would make a great gift and I'd love a physical copy.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the review copy.

This easy quilting book for beginners has useful information to get the novice sewer/quilter started. The first part of the book was well thought, and informational. This reader found the the projects and fabrics used in the many, easy projects to be dated and not pleasing to the eye. It looked as though the projects and photographs were recycled from the 1990's. I could not get excited to make any of the projects.

This book is great for someone who has never quilted before but would like to learn, or someone who has only done the absolute basics.
It gives you information about the things you need, including the sewing machine and the accessories to be used with it. It also has a glossary of the different terms used when speaking about quilting.
There are step by step, illustrated, simple and easy to follow instructions to get you started and take you through the basics. Then there are small projects for you to try and these gradually increase in difficulty as you gain skills working through the book.
A great introduction to this craft that is perfect for any beginner.
My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review

The beginning of the book gives you information on using a sewing machine and the basics of quilt making and then there are the individual projects that show you more techniques. I was really impressed with the instructions and the types of projects that are in the book. Being a complete beginner to quilting, I loved the fact I could learn while doing a small project and have a finished item relatively quickly. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who is interested in quilting and it will also make a great gift. Thank you #netgalley

Super Easy Quilting for Beginners
4 Stars

I've been wanting to make a quilt for years. However, the sheer size of a project that large is so overwhelming for me. Though I do enjoy doing smaller projects, like those that are offered in this book. They fit my current courage level. Super Easy Quilting for Beginners is packed full of great information, projects and patterns. The author does a great job of breaking down each project into manageable steps. The step-by-step instructions make it easy to follow along with. I appreciated the many pictures throughout this book. The useful tips and tricks should make quilting easier.

Overall, I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in learning how to sew. I look forward to trying out some of what I've learned. Thank you, NetGalley and Quarry Books, for providing me with a digital ARC for an honest review.

Super Easy Quilting for Beginners is full of Patterns, Projects, step by step instructions and loads of tips and tricks to get you started in quilting. The basics of using the sewing machine is addressed, and each project increases in difficulty as you move through the book. Rotary cutting is also a feature and I found this very useful. All sorts of traditional patterns are tackled in the projects such as star block and the instructions are easy to follow. The book is full of excellent photographs and illustrations and is a joy to read.

I learned patchworking from necessity: old or outgrown clothes needed to be turned into something new and usable when I was in my twenties. It would be a while before it became a pleasure rather than a chore but I've never felt completely at home with quilting. I needed something a little more stylish than my usual buttons or knots. Super Easy Quilting for Beginners seemed like a good place to start. So, how did it stack up?

We begin, as you might expect, with the basics. I've been using a sewing machine for well over sixty years so I found the space devoted to how to operate a machine - about 13.5% of the book - a little excessive, particularly as machines differ and you would need to refer to the manual for your own machine to be certain about what you were doing. I am being picky here - as there are some useful reminders that even old hands like me tend to forget.

Details of the supplies you'll need are good - it won't cost a fortune to get started and if you do sew, you may well have some of them already. Choosing fabrics and batting also confuses beginners but anyone reading the information here would come away with a sense of confidence. You don't just get instructions - you get the reasoning too, which always helps.

I've never felt completely confident about rotary cutting - I'm nervous about slippage - but the instructions are clear and they're supported by excellent illustrations. (The images throughout the book are all brilliant and there are some pictures of the projects which are absolutely stunning.) I'm convinced that I must master rotary cutting as it's accurate and a considerable time saver. Moving onto the quilt itself, there are all the instructions you'll need for layering and basting, quilting and binding. If you want more help, the book is supported by online content and there are boxed-out tips throughout the book, some of which are absolute gems.

You want to know about the projects, don't you? Well, they're organised roughly in order of difficulty and for each quilt you'll start with what you'll learn and what you'll need. We begin with a raw-edge appliqué hot pad but beware; the batting is only thin and it's more decorative than useful. More useful is the hand-appliquéd zippered bag and the quilt-as-you-go Christmas stocking. Staying with the Christmas theme, I loved the paper-pieced holiday coasters and I've already printed out the patterns, which you'll find at the end of the book.

There's a good selection of nine-patch and checkerboard projects with something for everybody's taste. My absolute favourite is the churn dash wall hanging - but I couldn't find details of the finished size. I'm going to have to work that one out because I'm pretty certain I have the fabric to do it!

The book is rounded off with a good glossary and an index. I'd like to thank the publishers for letting Bookbag have a review copy.
