There are plenty of appealing projects in here(I for one can’t wait to try my hand at the flannel lap quilt, flying geese cat blanket, not dolls)
The projects include -
* Raw-edge Applique Hot Pad (a potholder),
* Hand-appliqued Zippered Bag (this one is really cute),
* Quilt-as-you-go Christmas Stocking (lovely, will be working on this),
* Paper-pieced Holiday Coasters (cute, especially as ornaments),
* Nine-patch Pillow,
* Checkerboard Placemats,
* Double Nine-patch Table Topper,
* Pieced Sashing Table Runner,
* Flannel Lap Quilt (so cozy looking),
* Churn Dash Wall Hanging,
* Flying Geese Doll Blanket (great size for a small pet),
* Star Sashing Baby Quilt (so darling)
The patterns are included here and what you’ll need is laid out clearly.
Worthwhile and a recommendation for someone looking to get into quilting, or who wants to make their home super cozy for the fall and winter holidays.

A very well written and informative book about learning to quilt. I am looking forward to using some of the techniques I learned
This is a beautifully written book! I've been sewing for ~18 years now so I don't consider myself a beginner, but I am self-taught so I don't understand a lot of sewing terms. It's hard for me to buy a pattern and follow the instructions for anything more complicated than a pair of pajamas. I've done plenty of quilting, but I usually pay someone to cut everything because it's hard for me to understand the instructions. If I have a Youtube video though. I can usually accomplish what I want. With all that said, I feel like this book did a great job of breaking down different terms and techniques without being condescending. It goes over everything from pin and scissor/rotary cutter selection to how to thread your machine and check the tension. The pictures are large and labeled well so you're not guessing at what you're looking at. The book then moves in the patterns, most of which are beautiful. I've haven't actually sewn anything from the book because I'm in the middle of a couple projects, but I've been wanting to learn paper piecing and I love that that technique is explored! I plan to use my scrap stash to make those Christmas coasters for my mom!
Great book on quilting for beginners, with a quick introduction to fabric, tools, and quilting basics. Many projects with step-by step instructions make this a handy book for beginners, with projects getting a bit harder as you learn. I enjoyed that as a beginner who would like to start easy and then progress. It's not an in-depth book on quilting, but I found it didn't need to be, as it wasn't overwhelming and was perfect for beginners to start fun projects. I enjoyed this book, and appreciate the author, Netgalley, and the publisher for allowing me to read and review.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a helpful guide!
Some of the information is high level, but it's a helpful guide to learning more about quilting. I was hoping for more information on how to choose fabric or start projects, but there's instructions for a few projects and how to learn more.
Overall a nice find.
Thank you Netgalley and New Shoes imprint for letting me read this copy and my thoughts are my own.

What a fantastic book to use as an introduction to quilting.. Being a complete beginner, I didn’t really know what to expect. This book covers all the basics of quilting and walks you through progressively harder projects as you work your way through the book. It explains everything you’ll need, and how to use it (including a sewing machine) in simple to understand terminology. Each project has very clear instructions to help guide you through, step by step. Each one also has lots of accompanying diagrams and photographs of each stage, so you know exactly what you’re aiming for. This book will have you making actual finished items you can be proud of, right from the get go - from Christmas stockings to blankets. The quick reference and tips throughout are fantastic, and prevent any mishaps or obvious mistakes.

Thank you so much to NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Super Easy Quilting for Beginners coming out August 2, 2022. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I loved this book! I’m a beginner quilter. I’ve made a few quilts, but I’m still learning the basics. I loved all the patterns and the directions make me feel like I can make these! I definitely want to try making the cute stocking and checkered placemats. I also appreciated the basic sewing machine tips.
I’d recommend this book to anyone who is starting out sewing and getting into quilting.
This book certainly lives up to it’s title. Easy quilting.
Great instructions for a new quilter, from threafing a sewing machine, to completing a quilt, mug rug or even a Christmas stocking.
Definitely a high recommendation for a young new quilter.
I would purchase for a gift for sure.

I found this to be a helpful guide. Everything was laid out nicely making it easy to follow.
What I was looking for: I have been quilting for some time now and was more successful teaching myself with videos than books. Nevertheless, there is often new things even in beginner books and I wanted to see if this book would have helped me more than the ones I tried.
Structure: The book is split into two main sections: basics and projects (there are 16 sewing projects), prefaced by a chapter on how to use this book.
The basics
I understand that a section on sewing machine is expected and I appreciate the fact that the books wants to help absolute beginners. But the detailed information on winding a bobbin, threading the machine and so forth did not, for example, mimicking how it has to be done for my machine. Therefore, I would have preferred this section to be much more general and leave it at the very good advise at the start to talk with the dealer and study the manual. What I was missing on the other hand was more information on cleaning your machine, especially the bobbin case (also taking into account the flannel project later on). That being said, the rest of the information on sewing machines and sewing a straight seam (and the seam guide) are pretty good.
In general, the basic information is solid and okay but there was some information I consider important for beginners, such as clearly describing pressing versus ironing, information on spray basting. Maybe they left out continuous binding because it was considered harder to describe in writing and photographs but still I found it missing. There are easy ways for continuous binding that are not more difficult than the method shown here.
The projects
Sadly, there were several things I did not like in this section. Firstly, why did they include something called a “hot pad” and then right in the introduction say that, due to its thinness, it is more decorative than functional. Why not make it functional, with appropriate batting? Also, I was wondering why they included two appliqué projects in a beginner quilt book. That space could have been put to better use with different techniques on doing flying geese or half square triangles, for example.
For a beginner book, I think a flannel project is a bad choice as flannel produces so much lint. I know, because I also chose a flannel project as one of my first ones and it took ages to clean the machine and the whole craft area afterwards. If you do not clean your machine very often, it will cause problems with sewing.
That being said, I did like that they often had additional ideas for the projects.
Conclusion: Sadly, I think the book is lacking in some major areas and made a few unfortunate choices..
Super Easy Quilting for Beginners is a new beginner quilting tutorial and pattern guide edited by Quarry. First released in 2011 as Quilting 101, this reformat and re-release from Quarto on their New Shoe Press imprint is due out 2nd Aug 2022. It's 160 pages and will be available in paperback format.
I liked the layout of this book. Information is presented directly in easy to understand language and the format makes it easy to find info. This is a very basic beginner manual. The introduction includes general instructions for machine usage, tools & supplies, fabric & batting choice, rotary tools & how to use them safely, and everything else readers would need to get started with quilting safely and with a minimum of frustration.
The second two thirds of the book contains the project tutorials and patterns. Each of the projects contains one or more good technique lessons such as piecing, applique, quilt as you go, and paper piecing. The projects are well designed and attractive. Many of them would make lovely gifts and bazaar/donation items for charitable use. The book is lavishly illustrated throughout and the photos are clear and in color. Some few of the color choices are a bit retro (the book was originally from 2011), but a change in fabrics will make them more modern, or left as is for a more classic look.
The pattern templates are included. Tutorials include a tools & supplies list with required fabrics in a bullet list in a highlighted text box, followed by step by step instructions. Required materials are listed with both imperial (American) and metric measurements (yay!). The photos are clear and in color, without hands or tools obscuring construction details. The book also includes a glossary and abbreviated index. There is no supplies links or list, but the necessary materials will be easily available at any big box store, fabric store, or online.
This is a nice addition to the quilter's library and especially for those of us who have generous stash baskets, will provide a very satisfying way to use up some of those scraps. It would also make a good choice for public or school library acquisition, makers' spaces, church auxiliary and the like.
Four stars.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
What a fabulous book! Perfect for a beginner like me, compete with projects, loads of useful info and templates! Really fun book to work through!
