The reason I enjoyed this book, aside from how lovely it is to read, is that it introduces some hugely beneficial tools. Developmentally, little minds are busy, and many children find the transition to bedtime a difficult one. Mindfulness practices, like body scanning, are a wonderful tool that people of all ages can use to let go of the day and prepare for sleep. Good Night, Body shows children how to do this in an age-appropriate way. Even more than this, I love the way the book nurtures a sense of compassionate connection with one’s body. In her Note to Parents, the author acknowledges that all bodies are different, and she encourages parents to adapt the pages to serve their people. What a wonderful gift to give our children to carry with them through a life – the tools of mindfulness and loving connection with one’s body!
Good Night, Body is the ideal children’s book for the world we live in. While it is recommended for children aged 4-8 years, one could easily use ideas from the book with younger children. And for adults, reading aloud an embodied mindfulness practice is not only relaxing but a sweet reminder to bring more of that to our own nightly routine. This is truly a wonderful book, and I will definitely be recommending it to parents.
As a therapist and mom I am always looking for books to recommend and to utilize myself. My daughter really enjoyed this and we made it part of our bedtime routine!
It is beautiful to look at and the content is delivered in a calming manner! Highly recommend!
I absolutely LOVE this book for my son. He is 4 and putting him to bed some nights is ROUGH! But this book made getting ready for bed fun for him and he enjoyed the yoga in it. I will be 100% getting a physical book to add to our nighttime routine because he loved it that much. If you have littles I would add this one into the bedtime collection!
Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read this one!
This beautifully illustrated children's picture book is a sweet introduction to doing a mindful body scan as they transition to bedtime.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
A love relaxing way to end the day. The images are beautifully done and the body scan is calming and simple to understand.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Children's for an e-ARC of this title to read and review. I really appreciated the topic of finding calm and mindfulness, especially through focusing on specific areas of the body to draw attention to and then release. It's definitely a helpful relaxing practice for many, and that came through here. I can see book easily becoming part of a nightly bedtime routine for many little ones.
A step by step book to help you unwind after a busy day. Beautifully illustrated, and written in steps, you can read the book to the children so they can slowly meditate without the need to read, or read it by themselves to add more fun. This book will help you and your children to release the pressure you unknowingly held throughout the day, and relaxed your mind and body, be mindful to yourself and love yourself more.
The parent notice in the beginning of the book was insightful and appreciated. I love how easy, fun, and tangible the steps are throughout the book to get ready for bed and in tune with your body. The disabled representation was much needed and heartwarming too.
Kids are like little sponges soaking up the world around them!
Especially from ages 3-12.
These are the peak times for children and the time they discover who they are, who they will become, and what they will become.
Good Night Body is a very soft and relaxing book that helps kids calm down and relax before bedtime, going through your entire body.
A great book with soothing illustrations and a calming effect to help not only relax kids, but adults alike.
I found myself actually relaxing my whole body and closing my eyes as my fiance read the book to our daughter.
I think more adults can take some of these hints for themselves (myself included) before bed to relax as well.
Thanks NetGalley for the preview!
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Love how it addresses each part of the body individually and uses the imagination to help settle Little ones for bedtime. A great addition to your nighttime routine. Beautiful illustrations as well. Definitely will be purchasing this in print!
Good Night, Body is absolutely stunning and I will purchase a hard copy for my 4 year old. The illustrations are so serene and show gorgeous diversity and inclusivity. The relaxing tone and introduction to mindfulness is perfect for bedtime. Highly recommend!
Thank you to Thomas Nelson: Children's and NetGalley for this ARC!
I loved this one! It was perfect to read with my four year old and also myself and my husband loved it as well. It was comprehensive but also flexible and I loved the message it sends to all people about mindfulness and the beauty of our body!
What a wonderful book this is! So eloquent and relaxing for the body! It’s like yoga for your little ones with out them even knowing it! Each page takes a separate body part and describes in a fun way how to relax it. Beautiful illustrations. Great way to get the kids relaxed and snuggled in for bedtime.
This book is so precious! I absolutely love it's content, illustrations, and the constant overt message, "you are loved." Good Night Body helps introduce children to mindfulness techniques as they get ready for bed. Specifically by talking them through a full body scan story. I love that the author takes the time to present what a body scan is at the beginning of the book, so if you're a beginner or trying mindfulness for the first time you'll know what to do. This is wonderful bedtime book for children of all ages. Thank you, Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for the ARC. I purchased the book to have on my child's shelf!
Thanks so much NetGalley for the ARC!
This is AMAZING! I read it as an adult right before work and it helped me feel more relaxed, even though I was headed into my DAY not my BED - but I can definitely see how it would help get me (and my toddler) ready for sleep. It forced me to consider each part of my body and feel for any tension I didn't realize I was holding - did I noticed some aches and pains I hadn't paid attention to? Sure. But, it reminded me to stretch and breathe and release that pain too.
This is a great way to introduce a crucial tool to kiddos and can serve as an amazing lesson or reminder for us adults to - for sure one I'm adding to my son's list!
This is a lovely body scan and progressive relaxation exercise presented in terms that will be relatable for young kids. The tone is so sweet and full of gratitude for all the wonderful things our bodies, hearts, and minds do for us. Kids are gently coached to be aware of their bodies and how they feel and to let go of tension or excess energy in preparation for rest. The illustrations are soft and charming, full of lovely detail and diverse characters. This would be a wonderful bedtime read for young children and could definitely become an oft-repeated favorite!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
The art is so cute & I love the overall purple theme. This book is a nice introduction to mindfulness. The kids are diverse but while there is a disabled child, they're not on the cover, unfortunately.
Amazing illustrations with quite a good sense of instilling technique of letting children learn about their body parts. Children must learn from early stage about the working of their parts so that they get to know how to use their every part according to the requirements. How to see well, how to quench itch, how to walk, bend and run?
This is a likeable work and must be included in school curriculums.
Such a sweet book! This book has an interesting writing idea. This book teaches children to practice mindfulness before going to bed reminding children to respect themselves and their bodies which have worked hard all day long. I also really like the illustrations in this book, every character is very cute and the colors are very sweet.
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing for accepting my request to read and review this beautiful book.
I adored this book! With two extremely energetic boys, bedtime can be a tricky time to help them unwind and calm down. I read through this with my 6 year old, who has done some mindfulness and calming exercises in school, and he was so engaged in each part that helped him to unwind and settle down. The illustrations are particularly beautiful too and there was lots to see and point out for my 3 year old. A wonderful story that I'll be purchasing in hard copy as soon as it's released. I know this will be a bedtime favourite in our house!
