Such a cute and positive book for little kids! It's a short yoga book to calm them and help them let go of their worries before they go to sleep. It's definitely perfect for families who enjoy yoga and anxious children who need a relaxing bedtime! I also liked how diverse the representation is in the cute illustrations. I just know that this book would've been one of my comfort books as a kid!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC!
I love the pictues in the book, they are colorful yet calming at the same time. I also felt myself becoming more relaxed while reading this book- a great feeling! I also liked how the author went through body parts literally from head to toe and the overall message of we need to be kind to our bodies, and our bodies are our friend.
When it’s bed time, this book will help the reader get their body ready for bed. Reading this book felt like curling up in a warm bed on a snowy winter’s eve. It shows appreciation for the body, diversity, and teaches helpful tools for wiggly kids looking for a tool to help settle in for bed.
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the ARC of Good Night, Body!
Good Night, Body is a wonderful guide for parents and little kiddos to do body scan meditation. I personally feel that we should teach everyone mindfulness exercises as early as possible, so of course, this book gets a 10/10 from me. Also, the illustrations were cute and diverse. Highly recommend this for parents, caregivers, or adults who work with kids!
Note: will post review on retail sites on pub day.
If I could give 10 stars I would. This book is beautifully illustrated and a nice way to calm down for kids AND grown ups. It is very divers and inclusive even showing a child with vitiligo. Representation matters and those little difference make a book from good to great. Will definitely buy this book for my family and kids.
This a great book. I loved the writing and its overall message and goal. The illustrations were cute with a nice calming color palette. It had good diversity in the portrayal of the children too.
When it comes to bedtime, there can be many big feelings for children to navigate and manage. From fear, to anger and sadness, this book takes a journey into the end of day routine and feelings that may come along with going to sleep. Winn Lee has created a book that can help open up a dialogue about these big feelings with little people.
Winn Lee validates all feelings children may feel. She shares strategies, age appropriate explanations and vocabulary, along with great illustrations, to make the concept seem more understandable. Full of strategies and practices children can use and put into action to calm a racing mind, a fidgety body and fall asleep, this was a great tale with beautiful text that celebrates the body and can be used as part of a nightly routine and ritual. With evening affirmations for children to repeat, it can also be an empowering book too.
This story was both entertaining and educational, which can be a tricky balance to maintain in a children’s book, and I will be suggesting it to families whenever possible. Incorporating difficult to navigate topics such as this into children's picture books is a tried and true way to teach an important life skill in a way that is fun. This would be an amazing addition for classroom libraries, counselling offices and more.
This was a good before bed story, although I might use it to help my student calm down and relax. I like the imagery used to help calm the mind and brim hmm peace to the body.
This is a really cool book for kids. The illustrations are gorgeous. I like the way the story winds things down for kids at night. Some of the similes were so apt. I loved the hedgehog and starfish ones. Super sweet ending. Some of the poses/stretches seem tricky for kids to do in bed, but I do like the idea of being cuddly and ready for sleep as you do this mindfulness exercise.
This book is so beautifully illustrated and is such an interesting concept. With bedtime being what is described as an ‘emotional’ part of a child’s day, having a book that teaches them to be calm at the end of their day is important. The book is easy to follow, especially if a parent or guardian reads aloud to them at bedtime.
Right off the bat, I have never seen a children's book that showcases disabled children. I've come to expect diversity because that's the bare minimum that an author can do in 2022 but that tends not to include physical diversity through differently-abled bodies. One of the first pages has a young girl with a prosthetic leg. Reading this book made me start crying because I realized how grateful I am that children are being raised in a world where they can love themselves. That sounds silly but they're allowed to feel things now and do for themselves in a way that I wasn't allowed to and I know that my parents weren't allowed to. I'm going to be following the body scan techniques when I'm getting ready for bed because they were wonderful and I cannot recommend this book enough to all people, from toddlers to adults.
Love this book! The pictures are gorgeous. I love all the details- makes it easy for kids to engage with the book and work on identifying different pictures and pointing.
I love that the author initially explains what body scanning is to the reader because if they don't get it, then it won't be nearly as beneficial to the kiddos they're reading it to.
Most kids enjoy books more if books stimulate their whole body, not just their mind, This book has calming activities for each body part to do so this is great for body awareness and learning body parts (for younger kiddos) and the language encourages great comparisons ("curl up tight like a hedgehog, then burst open like a starfish") and helps encourage imagination in older kiddos.
Last but not least, I love, love, LOVE the representation and diversity in this book. There are kids with different skin colors, hair colors, hair textures, abilities. There's a wheelchair user and a child with vitiligo. This book can be used as a conversation starter/safe place if your kiddo has questions about someone that looks different than them.
As a pediatric occupational therapist and mom, I love this book!
This book had adorable illustrations to help your child as a guide to get them to sleep. It gives fun little techniques to help them relax their mind and body to become peaceful and get to sleep.
This is a great book for young kids to read before bed! I read this with my four year old last night and she loved it! We often forgot about the stress kids go through in their day to day lives and this book teaches them to relax their body and mind! My daughter told me she “felt better” and that she was relaxed, after reading this book and having her follow along. I will definitely be recommending this book to all my friend with young children do their own!
This was an amazingly well written book encouraging children to give their bodies a rest. I read the book with a five year old which helped me understand it more through their perspective. The way it's written doesn't make it seem like a chore or something they HAVE to do. It gives parents a tool to help children become more self aware and gives it a fun twist at the same time. Its very easy to understand and the diverse and colourful illustrations really help the book.
I would honestly, recommend the book for any age even younger children can be assisted through this book. It's extremely helpful for parents as a book can give a child more motivation to do something giving them a feeling as if they were participating in a game.
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Children's for accepting my request to read and review Good Night, Body.

Calming from head to toe at bedtime is the point of the book. The illustrations are pretty. The color combinations I found calming. Subsequently, it makes for a good bedtime story. However, there is more. Written are little movements a young child can be taught to relax.
This is a short book for young children. I found the first part wordy. The middle surprisingly affected me emotionally. I loved "Hello lungs feel up with all the air the earth has gifted you.". The joy of books, sharing ideas and thoughts. This certainly does.
I would gift this not just to a young child, but a new parent as well. I think the simple practices shown can aide us all whether or not we are going to bed.
This book is a wonderful way to encourage mindfulness in children. It also encourages them to understand the connection between body, mind and soul. As I read it, I found myself relaxing as well, which is a benefit to the child's grown up. This Nana absolutely found this book a joy to read. Thanks #NetGalley
This is a wonderful introduction to body scanning for children. Even if you don’t plan to teach your child meditation, it’s a great way to help them unwind before bed. Beautiful imagery and lovely illustrations.
This book is so sweet. The illustrations are cozy and comforting and visually pleasing; and the writing is calm and inviting. I guess I’m really not the market audience for it, but maybe adults should also be listening to their bodies more deeply and allowing a bit of a routine in shutting down the body, bit by bit, at bedtime. I was comforted by the novel and found myself trying to focus more on my own body as I laid in bed for sleep, so that’s worth something! I think I would definitely consider gifting a book like this to young family too.
This book was awesome! Bedtime is tough for some kids and I love books that help kids with big feelings. This book did exactly that and explained by bedtime was important. I think this book would be great for all kids under the age of 6. The pictures were vibrant and this would definitely keep a child's attention.
