I love when cozy authors get together and put out a collection of novellas that continue their current series. It's an excellent way to get to know new authors and their characters or just to get a fun taste of a series that you already love! In this particular collection, all the authors used a Christmas scarf as the murder weapon and then wove their unique and individual story around a Christmas themed murder. I was thrilled that Carlene O'Connor had an entry that continued with her Irish Village Mystery series that is set in County Cork, Ireland. If you haven't yet met the O'Sullivan brood this is a great series and should be on your must-read list. Then Maddie Day had her Country Store series set in Southern Indiana. Again, this is a must-read series on my list as the characters are diverse, unique and like the best friends you can't wait to catch up with. The last story was from Peggy Ehrhart with an installment from her Knits & nibble series set in New Jersey. This a completely new series to me, but I am happy to report that there are now 9 books in the series and I can't wait to start binge reading or listening to this one! I absolutely love Pamela and her best friend. I would love to have a fun knitter's group like theirs to join! In the short span of time, I traveled from Ireland to Indiana and ended in New Jersey sometimes with characters that I dearly love and ending with a new author to add to my favorites list! You should totally pick up this collection and get introduced to new characters then go find the entire series. If you already follow these authors' and their series then this is a great way to get just a small bit more while you wait for their next full length book!
This is a collection of three entertaining cozy novellas that all revolve around a Christmas scarf and a murder. It is perfect for mystery fans and fans of holiday fiction.
I received a free copy of this book from the publishers. My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are my own.
Christmas Scarf Murder is written by three established cozy mystery authors. Each novel has its own uniqueness with the common thread of all involving a christmas scarf in some shape or form. Because I have previously read a novel or two from each of these authors, I was able to jump into each of the book’s worlds with no issues, but I do recommend others to check out their books so that you’re more accustomed to the relationships amongst the characters.
Each story wrapped up each mystery nicely and I felt that the stories weren’t rushed to fit within the anthology, but also didn’t drag. Overall, this was a fun cozy to get a taste of each of the series in a Christmasy way.
Christmas Scarf Murder is a compilation of three novellas from three different authors. Each is a short story from these authors longer series. I have not had the pleasure of reading any books from these authors. Despite this, I was able to follow along quite well with the characters and storylines. These are a great introduction tot he series themselves. Each murder takes place with a scarf being used as the murder weapon. These were fun short stories that I love to read during this time of year when the nights are getting colder and the schedules are getting more crazy. I look forward to finding and reading more from each of the authors. The series seem fun and light hearted. I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.
This book of holiday murder was incredibly intriguing. The idea of using the same murder weapon in each of the stories was at first perplexing. I read each one of these Christmas themed cozies and I was absolutely delighted. They were clever and full of entertainment. I really enjoyed them.
I started this book because I absolutely love Carlene O'Conner, not realizing that it was three books by three authors. They have a similar theme, murder with hand-knit scarf, but are very different. Each one is a great read!
CHRISTMAS SCARF MURDER by CARLENE O’CONNOR
Siobhan O’Sullivan and her new husband get ready to spend their first Christmas as a married couple. First they have to solve an unusual theft at a local nursing home and a related murder.
SCARFED DOWN by MADDIE DAY
Aunt Adele's special yarn is used in a murder and Robbie Jordan needs to identify the true killer.
DEATH BY CHRISTMAS SCARF by PEGGY EHRHART
A hand-knit scarf is used to strangle a very unpleasant woman. At first it seems that the killer could be just about anyone since she made so many people angry. Pamela Paterson figures out that everyone is looking at the murder in the wrong way.
Fun and exciting Christmas anthology featuring some of my favorite authors and characters/series. These books may be novella in length, but each one it's complete and well-worth reading.
5 stars overall
1) Christmas Scarf Murder by Carlene O'Connor - Sibohan and Macdara must track down a thief and then murderer before Santy arrives. 5 stars
2) Scarfed Down by Maddie Day - Robbie had her hands full trying to run her cafe while also trying to solve a murder her Aunt Adele is being investigated for. 5 stars
3) Death By Christmas Dcarf by Peggy Erhart - local librarian, Carys has been murdered, but who could have done it? Pamela and the Knit and Nibble crafters are on the case. 4.5 stars
Many thanks to Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.
I also won a copy via a Goodreads giveaway.
Some of my favorite authors produced this Christmas mystery confection and it did not disappoint. My favorite always is Carlene O'Connor and the O'Sullivan family. I feel as if I have grown up with that family and it is a joy. I highly recommend this anthology for cozy mystery lovers.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
The town of Kilbane that Carlene O’Connor created was the only one I was familiar with, but it was so great to return. I’ve loved following this family from the beginning. This one had a couple scenes to keep you guessing. I can’t wait for the next one.
Christmas Scarf Murder by Carlene O'Connor, Maddie Day, and Peggy Ehrhart contains three cozy novellas that are a part of the following series': An Irish Village Mystery series, A Country Store Mystery series and A Knit & Nibble Mystery series. I thought they were three entertaining Christmas cozies. They are all well-written and full of Christmas spirit. The three mysteries were interesting with various levels of complexity. Maddie Day's "Scarfed Down" story set in South Lick, Indiana was my preferred tale. I'm a fan of the series (so far I've previously read books 6 through to 10) and I have yet to find myself dissatisfied with any story that features Robbie Jordan and the Pans 'N Pancakes cast of characters.
I have read books from all three series, so it was fantastic for me to read each of the stories as I am already familiar with many of the characters plus the settings. I like how scarves played a part in each story as well as getting to enjoy Christmas festivities in three different towns. These collections of novellas give us readers a chance to catch up with a few of our amazing series' and solve a mystery to boot. Very highly recommended.
This review was written voluntarily and my rating was in no way influenced by the fact that I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel from Kensington Books via NetGalley.
Christmas scarf murder by Carlene O'Connor was a fantastic Christmas, cozy mystery. I did not guess who the murderer was in this story. Carlene kept me guessing to the end. I loved the surprise decorations on the tractor and the light-up sign in the house, I teared up a little at both.
The Unfinished Scarf by Maddie Day is book 10.5 in the Country Store Mystery series and the first book I have read from Maddie Day. I love the sayings that the locals use, they are very unique. The ending to this one was a little abrupt, we went from Robbie talking about possible suspects to blam! here is the murderer.
Death by Christmas Scarf by Peggy Ehrhart, book 8.5 in the Knit & Nibble mystery series. I love Peggy Ehrhart but sometimes she gets caught up in the minutiae of explaining an outfit or a dish and I end up just skimming over the description. The story itself was good, I did not guess who the killer was or why, although looking back Peggy gives you all the clues so I should have seen it. However, she did a great job of distracting you with facts and clues.
I’ve read the series by Carlene O’Connor, An Irish Village Mystery, and Maddie Day, Country Store Mystery. Peggy Ehrhart, Knit & Nibble Mystery, was a new author to me.
I really enjoyed all three stories. They are from different series, but they have a common thread of a Christmas scarf and a murder. If you are familiar with the series, these are quick visits with familiar characters. If they are new to you, they are a nice introduction to the series.
Thank you to the author, Kensington Books, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This was another fun Christmas short story compilation that I've come to look forward to reading every year. I'm up to date on the Country Store series, have read one or two in Irish Village and read the first one or two in Knit & Nibble, so I was already familiar with characters. Although someone could read these and not be lost.
Christmas Scarf Murder was a fun reunion with Siobhan and her big Irish family. I was suspicious of someone from the get-go, so it wasn't too far of a stretch to find they were the killer. I got a kick out of the elder home residents too and Siobhan and her hubby's cute banter while working the case. The showdown was planned a really good. And the ending was so darn sweet!
In Scarfed Down, it wasn't a huge surprise who the killer was even though there were several to pick from. I always enjoy a good Christmas story with Robbie and crew though and had fun reading about the investigation. Wanda and Buck always crack me up! The showdown was tense at first but no one was hurt at least. I loved this ending as well, lots of Christmas togetherness with family and good friends.
Death by Christmas Scarf took us to Arborville NJ with Pamela and her group of knitter friends. I haven't read in the series for a while, so I was happy to read about these folks and might just need to get out my next in series soon where I left off. I really enjoyed this mystery too and liked the twist toward the end. As with all good cozies, there were some fun Christmas parties but ended with the friends gathering for the big explanation. Even Nell couldn't get on them too much for gossiping after all this! ;)
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Kensington Cozies via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.
I truly enjoy holiday cozies. Anytime I can get my hands on a trilogy of short holiday cozies from great authors, it’s even better. The characters in each of these short stories are engaging and the mysteries are well-plotted. I highly recommend this book. Thank you NetGalley and Kensington for the ARC.
This is part of a series, but it can be read as a standalone novel. However, reading prior books will give you a greater appreciation for the characters.
This is a compilation of three cozy mysteries by three different authors, all with a Christmas theme. A Christmas scarf is the only connection between the stories. Christmas recipes is a fun addition, as is the knitting pattern for a teddy bear. This is a fun, quick read for the upcoming holiday season.
Three separate short stories that are each part of a larger series. They are all OK but don’t really add anything to their respective series in any way. Each has a scarf involved in the murder but aren’t overly Christmas-y.
What the heck?! Christmas Scarf Murder by Carlene O'Connor, Maddie Day, Peggy Ehrhart was unexceptional. I'm a sucker for a good Christmas story, but A MYSTERY CHRISTMAS STORY?! Yes please!!!! Honestly, I don't remember what I expected going into this book, but what I got is way more than I expected. Before I requested this book from netgalley, I didn't know it was part of a series, but you can actually read it as a standalone. Christmas Scarf Murder is a book combined by three novellas by three different authors, Carlene O'Connor, Maddie Day, and Peggy Ehrhart, each story involves amateur's solving a murder with a Christmas scarf as the murder weapon. I was hooked from the very first page, and couldn't put it down. I didn't expect to love this book as much as I did, I mean I thought Christmas was supposed to be a fun, happy holiday with friends and family, not getting murdered by a Christmas scarf. Christmas Scarf Murder was definitely one of the best Christmas mysteries I have ever read.
THANK YOU TO NETGALLEY AND KENSINGTON BOOKS FOR AN ARC OF THIS BOOK!!!!
"Stocking stuffers like hand knit scarves make the coziest of Christmas gifts... unless they are used as accessories for murder"!
Christmas Scarf Murder- Carlene O'Connor: Siobhan O'Sullivan and her husband Detective Sergeant Macdora Flannery are newlyweds. Siobhan and Macdora are going to have their first Christmas together. But, one morning Siobhan and Macdora receive a call from the local nursing home that a thief has come and stole their precious belongings. Kilbane, Ireland is having a Christmas tractor parade, and Siobhan seems to only identify one missing item before the parade kicks off, a hideous shamrock scarf wrapped around a dead body. One of the senior citizens claims she made the scarf but now can't find it. When Siobhan notices the scarf she starts to question the lady who made it, but why would a lovely senior citizen want to use her scarf to murder someone? You need to read this book to actually find out who the actually murder is.
Scarfed Down- Maddie Day: Pans 'N Pancakes in a local diner in South Lick, Indiana, who creates a Twelve Days of Christmas menu to attract hungry locals. But, the festivities die down the instant a local member of the knitting group is found dead with a green scarf around her. Robbie Jordan is the owner of Pans 'N Pancakes who creates the Twelve Days of Christmas Specials. Robbie's aunt, Adele is the one who owns the yarn that is sold in Robbie's diner. The local police take all the yarn from the diner for further investigation, and now Adele is tied to the murder investigation because her yarn was used in the scarf on the murder victim. With Adele tied to the investigation, it's Robbie's job to go around and find out who would want this person dead. No matter the questions going around, Robbie's diner is still bustling with hungry locals.
Death By Christmas Scarf- Peggy Ehrhart: Carys Walnutt is found strangled by a handmade scarf auctioned at Arborville's tree lighting ceremony in, Arborville, New Jersey. Suspects start to pile up faster than the snow in New Jersey when Carys is found dead on the side of a building. Pamela Paterson and the crafty group of Knit and Nibble ladies is determined to find justice for Carys even though she was a frosty tempered women. A winning bidder hiding behind the name "S. Claws" and a victim who deserved coal in her stocking, questions and suspects are starting to pile up. With Christmas approaching, Pamela is determined to help stop this before it happens to someone else. Pamela starts questioning people who knew Carys or people who were around the night she was strangled, but there's just too many people.
CHRSTMAS SCARF MURDER is the novella trilogy by Carlene O’Connor, Maddie Day, and Peggy Ehrhart. With holiday cheer galore and a knotty mystery to solve in each story, this book is the perfect accompaniment to a glass of eggnog and a plateful of cookies in front of a roaring fire. Although each story is based on each author’s beloved series characters, you can easily read the book as a standalone. It’s a terrific way to catch up on the characters you love while waiting for the release of the next full-length book, or be introduced to new characters. While I’m quite familiar with, and fond of, Carlene O’Connor’s and Maddie Day’s series, I’ve not read anything by Peggy Ehrhart. I found it easy to jump into the story and follow the protagonist as she and her best friend solve the mystery. It also made me want to add her books to my TBR pile and catch up.
Each novella contains a mystery revolving around a Christmas scarf. The mysteries are well-plotted, despite the short length, and I have to give kudos to Maddie Day for the most creative use of the scarf as the murder weapon… no spoilers here! There are clues for the eggnog-sipping armchair detective to follow and several twists that kept me on my toes. Each mystery had a highly satisfactory conclusion, and despite the murder and mayhem involved, the stories exude the delight of the Christmas season.
I greatly enjoyed that there are recipes for the reader to make at home, and Peggy Ehrhart even included a cozy teddy bear knitting pattern!
I picked this book because of Charlene O’Connor, author of the first story.
Charlene O’Connor is one of the authors I like to read when I’m in the mood for easy reading, a light mystery with a bit of puzzling. The two other authors, new to be also fit the bill of the above requirements. Perfect for the Christmas season when everybody needs a bit a relaxation during the fun but hectic time of the holidays.
Christmas Scarf Murder, three novellas by authors Carlene O‘Connor, Maddie Day, and Peggy Ehrhart. For O’Connor’s submission we join the O’Sullivan clan and MacDara for their first Christmas as a married couple and the first in their new (old) house. Siobhan joins Macdara in investigating the robbery of several precious, but not valuable items at a local nursing home. It seems simple enough until one of the items, a scarf, is used to murder a volunteer at the home at the rehearsal for the Christmas tractor parade. Of course, Siobhan and Macdara solve the mystery. In the second story, Scarfed Down, we find Robbie at a meeting of her knitting group. She doesn’t knit but enjoys the company. Robbie and the gang are on the job. Most of the knitters use Aunt Adele’s yarn. She dies and spins it herself from wool taken from the sheep she raises. Now someone is dead and her yarn was in their hands-poison. The third featured Bettina and Pamela. I have never read anything by this author, but I am assuming it is part of a larger series. The group had just finished knitting scarves for the silent auction to raise money for the local library. Before too long, someone is strangled with the scarf they got at the auction.
Three short glimpses into long-running series. It’s a good way to get your feet wet. None require much fore knowledge, all are decent mysteries, and all give a good look at the greater picture. All are character-driven, as are most cozies, and all three represent the best of the genre. It’s a shame to couple murder with Christmas but these things happen. A good book. Worth the read.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Christmas Scarf Murder by Kensington, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Kensington #CarleneOConnor #MaddieDay #Peggy Ehrhart #ChristmasScarfMurder
