Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for a chance to read and review this wonderful book in exchange for an honest review! If you love everything about Gone With The Wind then this is a must read! It is a timeline on daily happenings surrounded the making of the film including how scenes were filmed and where, casting and daily press reports. I really enjoyed the ending when it came time to premiere this movie to the world and how crazy Americans were to see it. I would highly recommend to any fan of GWTW to read this book!

I found this book very interesting regarding the day to day activities in the making of the film. It almost makes you feel like you were there. I never knew that so many details had to be addressed before the actual filming could begin. If you love old movies, this book fits the bill!

A day by day diary of the making of Gone With the Wind- perfect for obsessed fans and movie buffs. Includes the names of all the actresses considered for the role of Scarlet.

This book is a day by day account of the making of this wonderful classic film. I discovered so much I did not know about how difficult this film was to make and the behind the scenes drama played out among the performers. This book even tells you who had birthdays on each day even minor players in the making of this film.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and believe anyone who loves this film as much as I do will also enjoy it.

I received this from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. As someone that has loved GWTW since I was a kid, this book was gold!! This has all kinds of behind the scenes goodies that any movie lover would cherish. GWTW is from the golden age of Hollywood with our classic stars, so there are no more interviews or inside information we can garner from the people that were around to experience it. So when a gem like this comes along we are lucky to have it. I highly recommend it for anyone that loves that Golden Age of Hollywood and / or GWTW fan.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I have been a lifelong Gone with the Wind fan. I was excited to have the opportunity to read this book. "Gone With The Wind" by Pauline Bartel is a day by day listing of what was happening during the making of the legendary movie. Most dates have three sections: "In The Spotlight"- dates of birthdays, Behind the Scenes- where the bulk of the info comes into play, and In The News- a section which talks about what articles and media buzz is out surrounding the filming of the film. I enjoyed this book but maybe I know too much about the backstories already because not a lot of the information was new to me. There was a few interesting tidbits I learned such as how the score came to be and some interesting pieces about Clark Gable backstage. I knew a lot already about Clark's relationship with Gable and Vivien's relationship with Olivier as they both fought to receive divorces so they could marry each other. Still it was a fairly interesting read. I liked how I could envision the familiar scenes when the book mentioned the parts of filming and again the parts that they had to edit down to get to an acceptable length. However I found the "In the Spotlight" section more distracting than anything. It was fine when it listed birthdays for the primary cast and crew but was bogged down with birthdays of tons of actors/actresses that were considered for roles in the movie. Most of us won't recognize any of those names. This book will be best for fans who don't know a lot about the making of the movie or Gone With the Wind completionists.

Superfans of 'Gone with the Wind' won't want to miss this next insider's guide from Pauline Bertel, which starts off with a detailed timeline of everything from Vivien Leigh finding out she'd been cast as Scarlett O'Hara to George Cukor consulting with technical advisors, studio staff, and newspaper reports. Going into microscopic details of each day, as the subtitle promises, readers learn about production snags, birthdays, rehearsals, filming, and much more. Designed for a very specialized audience, it will appeal to people who are film history buffs with occasional sidebars of text about who certain characters are. The included images also add value to the text, which would have benefited from more visual content to break up the text.

1939 was a busy year. From January to December marked the filming, editing, rewriting, and promoting of the iconic film. Get a behind the scenes look at what was happening each day.

I’ve never been particularly interested in how a film was made, but I do love Gone with the Wind (film AND book). I found this book to be very informative and interesting. I’m not surprised how many actors turned to drink or drugs to cope with grueling schedule they had to keep just for one film!

Each day is presented first with any known birthdays of the cast or crew. There are even included the birthdays of those who had been considered for certain roles, which gave me an insight into the kind of actors they were looking for. Then, there is a brief overview of what was being filmed or altered behind the scenes. There is usually a clip from news articles and reports on how the coming film was being looked on.

I would recommend this to fans of the film or those interested in film history. I received a free copy through NetGalley and am reviewing of my own will.

A must have for any Gone With the Wind fan, this book is full of fascinating tidbits of behind the scenes information. The format of the book is quite different than most film “making of” books, and took a little time to get used to. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What an interesting look at the Gone With the Wind film world!

This book has a lot of neat little tidbits of info tucked away into it's pages. The layout goes day by day through 1939. The dates are listed as "In the Spotlight" - which lists birthdates of the crew and cast members and those that auditioned; "Behind the Scenes" - telling all the filming news and a lot of tidbits I didn't know before; and "In the News" - the newspaper, magazine etc articles and columns about the film.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review. This is certainly a book for the biggest GWTW fans - I really enjoyed it!

This consists of datebook-like entries, listing a paragraph or two about each day’s activity. It may report on the day’s filming, or Selznick’s concerns about different aspects, or an actor signing on. Also given were daily press reports from Louella Parson or other gossip columnists. Birthdays are noted, including those of people who auditioned for roles, especially that of Scarlett. These were frequently unknown and distracting.
The best part was the filming reports. They had awful hours, sometimes starting before dawn and working until late at night. It’s a puzzle why Leslie Howard had the role of Ashley; he hadn’t wanted it and was often unprepared, arriving late and flubbing his lines.
Now I’m going to borrow the DVD and watch the movie to match up the action with all the tidbits.

This book will be great for any Gone With the Wind fan who counts it as their favorite film! I enjoyed reading all the tidbits about things that happened that daily, be it birthdays, filming events, or other miscellaneous personal life events, like Joan Fontaine's marriage or Vivian Leigh's maid accidentally discarding of part of a costume.

I could see this doing well as a coffee table type of book with lots of photos of the film, set, costumes, etc.

An interesting format that I was at first unsure of. However as the ‘days’ progressed I found I really liked it. I would have liked to have seen the author include many of the actual studio memos she makes reference too.
