Another great addition to the Bree Taggert series.
Bree and Matt are up against another serial killer and this one may have picked a victim a tad close to them! The killer seems to be picking victims from the online dating world - the victims are all horrible people but you can't help feeling sorry for the family they left behind.
I'm so happy that Bree and Matt are now "out" to their world. The romance is most definitely background for the murder/mystery but it does help to make them feem like "real people". It would have been nice to see some of the discussions they allude to, for example, where they talk about PDA at work/in public, etc. Along with Dana, best friend extraordinaire, their unusual family dynamic works. The kids are more secure and the Sheriff's Dept finally has some capable in charge.
There is a great selection of secondary characters too. Kady and Todd, the Sheriffs Office team, and then the possible murder suspects and their families. I could have done with a TW about the slithery monsters, I admit I had to flick past that scene in particular 'cos, just NOOOOOOOOO!
The interconnected worlds of Scarlet Falls and Morgan Dane series makes for a fully formed and colourful world. The town is beginning to feel more and more like a real place. Onwards and upwards for more Bree soon hopefully!
3rd person POV for Bree and Matt and 1st Person PV when with the serial killer
Lie to Her, by Melinda Leigh, is a fast paced police thriller with just a touch of romance. I also loved the family aspect of it with the main character raising her niece and nephew. Lots of sweetness mixed with all the suspense. I look forward to more books by this writer.
Sheriff Bree Taggert is called to the scene of a man's murder. She arrives to a gruesome scene to find that the victim has been killed in his own yard. It's also obvious that the killer was angry with the victim and made him suffer.
Bree and her partner, Investigator Matt Flynn, have reason to believe that the victim's dating app profile is the best place to start their investigation. Unfortunately, 24 hours later, there's another victim murdered in the same way. This new victim is also on the same dating app as the first one was. Is the motive really as obvious as it looks, though? Bree and Matt aren’t so sure. Now they're in a race to catch the killer before they strike again.
Bree is back and so is her team and the investigations she has to do with them.
I love this series and it’s becoming one of the few that I really love and enjoy with each new stand alone instalment.
The author has created a perfectly balanced character, we get to see her flaws but also how strong and ambitious she is throughout the hardest times she mets in her career.
This one is as suspenseful and intriguing as usual and one that should not be missed.
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Another great one by this Author. The suspense and continued romance between Matt and Bree is on point.
A serial killer is in their midst and Matt and Bree must find the killer and hopefully before a loved one gets stuck in the crosshairs of the killer.
Great read and one I would definitely recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for a honest unbiased review
The latest instalment in the Bree Taggert series of books by Melinda Leigh and another winner.
Ms Leigh just keeps on churning them out.. The background to the latest case is internet dating apps.
Two bodies appear on successive days. Both victims are players on the internet dating scene.
If you've read others in the series, you'll like this and dare I say if you haven't read any of the others you can read this as a standalone.
Loved this thrilling story in the Bree Taggert series. Sheriff Bree Taggert and her love interest, criminal investigator Matt Flynn, are called to investigate the nasty murder of a digital marketer, who is a player in the online dating scene. When another player turns up murdered in a similar way, they begin to suspect they may have a serial killer in their midst.
This book is suspenseful and thrilling and I loved seeing things from the killers POV. The story moves along well, the plot keeps you engages and there is plenty of suspense and action. I enjoyed how this story shows the intricacies of daily life as well as the murder, mystery aspect. The author really makes you feel the fear and emotions the Bree experiences when faced with trying to find her brother and the worry over her niece & nephew. The characters in this series are great and you easily become attached to them as you see them grow and relationships develop throughout the series. I look forward to seeing more of Cady and Todd’s developing relationship in future books. This is an entertaining, enjoyable story that can be read as a stand alone but you would get more understanding of the characters if you read the series in order.
An early copy was provided to me by the Author and Montlake Publishing via NetGalley with no obligation to review. Publication Date: January 17th, 2023.
Thank you #netgalley for the Arc and chance to review the next book in the Melinda Leigh Bree Taggert series. This book started a bit slower than usual for me, I couldn't initially connect with the "actor", but once the investigation got under way it became a bit more interesting. Love Bree but not sure how realistically this small town can keep having so much violence in such a short period of time. However the side stories and horse and dog rescues keep me coming back for more. 3.5 round up to 4
I love this series and always get so excited to dive back in with a new book. This one starts off with a bang! I loved the case and the twists. Reuniting with the characters is always a delight. I've loved the character development throughout this series and look forward to the next installment!
3.5* rounded up to 4*
A serial killer this time, targeting men who use dating sites to sleep with women and then dump them.
So far my least favorite book in the series. First of all, the killer was obvious from the moment they showed up on the page. From then on I was just waiting for confirmation of my guess. The plot itself also wasn't very interesting to me. The pacing was slow, only picking up speed closer to end. And there was this thing that really irked me. In the course of the investigation Bree and Matt would meet and interview women that the victims dated. And I didn't like the way those women were described. It's like there had to be emphasis on their looks, especially compared to Bree. Bree rarely puts on make up or makes an effort with her looks, and Matt would think her beautiful and gorgeous. That's great and all, but then in his head he would criticize the women they met. Like, oh, her lips look like she was stung by a bee, oh she uses botox, oh she clearly visits a cosmetologist. Ummm, I had my lips done, I know plenty of people who visit cosmetologists, and I see nothing wrong with that. My body, my business. Those women's bodies-their business. There was just no need to compare them to Bree or Bree to them, and bothered me every time I came across such remarks.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Sheriff Bree Taggert moved from Philadelphia to upstate New York, after the murder of her sister, Bree inherited a small farm and custody of her nephew and niece. Life changed drastically for Bree.
The story starts with the first fine detail planned murder which sees Bree back at work instead of being home with the kids.
Two murders in and getting a little closer to discovering the killer there’s an unexpected twist that I did foresee or predict.
The story ends with a happy ending but not without a drama.
This story kept me captivated, a page turner that kept me up not wanting to put down.
This is the 6th book in the series following Bree Taggert.I've skipped some books in this series, but its always a good one to go to for me. I like Bree, and I enjoy her family in this book. I enjoy that she is changing and evolving, and its in a great direction at the moment. I like Matt, and also have enjoyed seeing how he fits into Bree's life. The murders in this book were okay, the plot was pretty unrealistic. That's okay for me though, I don't really mind too much. The timelines were very quick and fast moving, as was the pacing of the story in general. It was a quick, engaging read for me. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to give my honest review!
Trigger Warning: Snakes
I only got to chapter six of this as the presence of snakes as a major part of the storyline was making me very anxious. I have read and loved this series so far, especially Bree and Matt, but unfortunately couldn't finish this. I was enjoying the steady start knowing it would get ever more tense throughout but had to stop reading. I will definitely be back for the next installment.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. If snakes don't bother you then you should be ok with this book.
This is a great addition to the Bree Taggert series. I love the balance of romance and suspense I would definitely recommend this book 5 stars
Bree a past that held murder and heartbreak, especially at the holidays
She had to hold it together for her niece and nephew, with the joy she now knew of parenting.
With Christmas time coming making it a happy time for them
A killer is leaving a mark on his victims and Bree and Matt have the case.
They were players on a internet dating service, leaving angry and hurt women.
The lies are many, a long list of victims, as is the rage of the killer
Given ARC for Net Galley and Montlake for my voluntary review
and my honest opinion Releases. January 17; 2023
Highly recommend this one! This was my first book to read by this author but definitely won't be my last. The characters will stay with you long after you finish the book and you will find yourself wishing the story would never end.
This series keeps getting better!
I was thrilled to read an ARC of Lie to Her by Melinda Leigh.
Full of intrigue and more than a few breath stopping moments, this book kept me guessing until the very end.
I highly recommend this book!
Love the Bree Taggert series and this one did not disappoint! Definitely recommend reading this series in order. You don't want to miss anything!!!
Thank you #netgalley and #montlake for the eARC.
There’s something to be said for NOT going the online dating route in the new Bree Taggert Mystery by Melinda Leigh.
When a man is found dead in his home, suffocated with a plastic bag and with the word LIAR engraved on his forehead, Sheriff Taggert hopes it’s an isolated incident. When a second man turns up a day later, dead by the same means and with the word CHEAT on his forehead, she knows she may have a serial killer on her hands.
What did the men have in common? In addition to being losers, they both used the same dating app to meet women, have sex with them, and then discard them.
Bree hones in on a suspect reasonably quickly, and then it’s a dance until the end to prove the person’s guilt. When her own brother goes missing, she’s afraid the killer may have struck again.
This was a fast passed book with a great hook and ending—another winner from Leigh.
5 stars. Thanks, Netgalley for a sneak peek!
I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Another great installment in the Bree Taggert series. Sheriff Bree Taggert and her boyfriend, Investigator Matt Flynn, investigate a serial killer who is targeting men who are "liars" and "cheats." As they begin to hone in on the killer's identity, the situation takes a terrifying turn, and Bree must act fast to keep her family safe. I'm looking forward to the next adventure!
In Lie to Her by Melinda Leigh, a digital marketer is found murdered in his backyard—hands bound and face smothered by plastic wrap—Sheriff Bree Taggert and criminal investigator Matt Flynn respond to the call. Their investigation focuses on the man’s dating-app profile and the word liar carved into his forehead.
I really loved that the characters rescued 2 horses in this story. It was very heartwarming. The story starts off well and just keeps going with thrills and suspense.
Bree is such a good character, and I love the kiddos.
The story provided informative information about snakes and snake bites, which is good for me since I live where there are rattlesnakes.
I was excited to get this advance copy and would recommend this series and this author.
A solid 5 out of 5 with a very good story, solid writing, and interesting characters.
