My favorite part of reading this genre is when there are unexpected twists and turns, and the author of this novel delivered. I read this quick, just about a day or so.
A great novel. I enjoyed the read. Thank you for letting me read it. I especially liked how it ended.
This one hooked me from the very beginning. Lots of gripping twists that I love in a thriller. The story line was fast paced and easy to follow. I didn't want to put it down.
This has got to be one of the best books I have read!
Kept you guessing and the twists are awesome!
Great read will recommend!

Caroline Macon Fleischer’s The Roommate is a nail-biting thriller you will read in a single sitting.
Donna has had enough of her life in Chicago. She is sick and tired of her family making her miserable, her dead-end job and her disastrous love life. She is desperate for a fresh start and it looks like all of her prayers have been answered when her grandmother leaves her a beautiful bungalow in the California hills. At long last, things are looking up for Donna and when she finds the perfect roommate, for the first time in a long while, she feels like things might be going her way. However, she soon learns that all that glitters isn’t necessarily gold…
Josh is an absolute godsend. Kind, caring and considerate, Josh couldn’t be more perfect if he tried. Donna really hit the jackpot in the roommate stakes with him and a fast friendship soon forms between the two of them. But just how well does Donna know Josh? Can she trust him? What is he hiding? And is he really as perfect as he seems or does he have a very dark secret that could end up putting Donna in danger?
Doubts immediately start creeping in for Donna. What are all those strange sounds coming from his room? And where did he get the key to the side door? As events spiral out of all control when she brings home a boyfriend, Donna is about to realise that her perfect roommate is going to turn into her worst nightmare…
A creepy chiller that will have you jumping out of your skin, Caroline Macon Fleisher’s The Roommate is a dark, twisty and disturbing thriller that is definitely not for the faint-hearted. Full of tension, skullduggery and secrets, The Roommate is a terrifying and unsettling read perfect for C L Taylor and Shari Lapena fans.
I found this both captivating and suspenseful! The Roommate is creepy and dark and I couldn’t put it down. This is the very definition of a domestic thriller. I find the idea of not being safe in your own home the most terrifying, which is reflected in my Amazon purchases of pepper gel and taser. It is my favorite type of book and movie to watch
Donna inherits a home in California and decides she needs a roommate to help cover the cost of upkeep. That is where she meets Joshua, and they seem like a perfect fit. Donna seems a little wary but pushes that aside. They connect quickly, becoming great friends. As time goes on, however, more and more secrets are unraveled. Slowly, she goes from excitement going home to dread.
The two aren’t the most likable, but they are flawed, like all people. Both can be frustrating and annoying.
There are some nice twists along the way. All in all an enjoyable read.

The blurb for this book made it sound like a spooky thriller a la the Netflix docuseries Worst Roommate Ever. I enjoyed that series and was interested to see how a domestic thriller could take a real issue and ratchet up the drama and suspense. Unfortunately, I obviously did not enjoy this book as much as I did the aforementioned Netflix show.
I'm not usually one to become disengaged with a story due to stylistic writing choices of an author, but this was rough for me. There was just a lot of awkward phrasing, either from word choice or from a lack of clarity. The plot felt like it was dragging, which is the exact opposite of how I want to feel when reading a thriller. Usually a thriller will propel me to read because I Need to Know what happens or find some resolution. In this case I was reading to see if anything would happen.
This one was very disturbing. It kept me reading, for sure, but the characters, themes, events, animals, etc. were a bit too morose for my taste.
Donna's life is in need of a change. She is working a dead end job, dating a loser boyfriend and living in a city that is taking her no where. When she inherits a beautiful home in California she's ready for a new life and a fresh start and a new roommate to help her pay the bills. But her new roommate is not exactly what she had in mind - he was meant to only be a temporary solution, but he starts to overstay his welcome. As the tension builds, the story becomes more intense and harder to put down.
Overall, this book was enjoyable and entertaining but did not seem fresh - almost like I had read it before. The characters were predictable and not relatable. However, I read and enjoyed The Roommate and would recommend for an easy and entertaining read! Thank you, NetGalley for this ARC!
The Roommate was a dark sinister thriller with a good premise. However, for me it just didn’t reach that depth that I was expecting.
I found Donna and her mother, Addie difficult to connect with. If she had just done her homework a bit more she would have saved herself a lot of trouble. And Joshua was just creepy – not terrifying. Donna should have been more assertive from the beginning. It was her house afterall.
There were surprises at the end that I certainly didn’t see coming, but despite the potential I just felt Donna needed to stand up for herself more. All in all a quick three star read.
I found this book interesting but also a bit disjointed too it was an enjoyable read but very confusing at times too so it was hard for me to really get into the story like I had hoped to!

This is one creepy physcological thriller, it is a gripping storyline although I didn't connect with any of the characters. The ending was an unpredictable shock. It was a crazy but great read, I just hope I don't have nightmares. Thank you netgalley and Joffe books for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
My rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5
SHE INVITED HIM IN, NOW SHE CAN’T GET HIM OUT .
Donna inherits a house in California and she’s ready to start a new life. But the nightmare has only just begun.
It’s almost impossible to wrap her brain around the fact that this place is hers. A gift she never expected but it’s come just when she needs it most. Donna was wondering where her life was going — a dead-end job in Chicago, an unhappy family life, no boyfriend. But inheriting a beautiful, blue-painted house from her grandmother in California offers a fresh start.
And now she’s found the perfect roommate to help her pay the bills. Joshua keeps the fridge stocked with delicious fresh food. They watch cooking shows together and stay up watching late-night movies. He’s not just a roommate, he’s a friend, and soon Donna can’t imagine life without him.
But Donna tries to ignore the doubts she begins to have. Why does he have a key to the side door? And what’s that smell coming from his room?
And when Donna brings home her new boyfriend, things start to spiral out of control.
How far will he go . . . ?

Thrilling read! I was able to connect with all of the characters and throughly enjoyed the story the author painted.
Donna inherits her grandmother's house but soon decides to find a roommate. Joshua seems perfect but their friendship gradually deteriorates as tension and danger take over the house...
The Roommate is a domestic drama and psychological thriller set in America.
I have really mixed feelings about this book. The characters are not easy to like or identify with. The plot has twists which were easily predicted. Yet the book was completely compelling.
The tension is palpable throughout and this draws the readers' anticipation as they await to see what will happen next. The atmosphere is at best deeply uncomfortable, but also dark and dangerous. I felt that the unpredictable behaviour and volatile nature of the characters and plot are reinforced through the writing.
There was jarring moments, some softer times and other outright unpleasant scenes. I felt that some moments stood out as really awkward and stretched my credulity: references to sex and a period starting suddenly which both seemed irrelevant. Some parts of the book, especially the ending, are quite gruesome.
Donna creates her own problems but I couldn't bring myself to like her due the way she takes others for granted. Both roommates have a skewed psychology which makes them complex and nuanced. However, the relationship between Donna and Joshua is fascinating as their roles in the house develop. They really have a love-hate relationship despite the way they treat each other.
The Roommate is an unpleasantly dark but compelling novel.
Nasty, Gruesome, Crazy are just some of the words I would use to describe this book! It was one I didn’t want to put down once I started it! Very catchy and definitely an awesome story line to keep the reader interested! Hoping I don’t have nightmares tonight now!!!!
I really enjoyed this book
The pace of the book is good and the characters easy to connect with. and theres definitely some gory bits.
It gripped me from the first page and kept reading until I finished it.
However there are questions I wanted answers to mainly about Joshuas trial, how did it end?
Overall though it was a great read and I would definitely read this author again
Inheriting a new house in a new city sounded like the perfect new start for Donna, but she got lonely. What better solution than to get a roommate? Her and her new roommate, Joshua, hit it it off, until Donna starts to notice little things. What is that stench coming from his room? And why does he already have a key to the side door of her house? She invited him in, now she can’t get him out.
This book had a lot of promise. The synopsis hooked me and I just had to find out what was going to happen. But I’m sad to say that I don’t have any positive things to say about this book.
Firstly, I feel like the writer took a lot of time trying to develop the main character, but she wasn’t likable. I think that was purposeful, however, if she wasn’t likable, why not use her unlikable-ness to further the story in some way? She was just annoying. My main problem with this book though is that the roommate WAS NOT SCARY! He was mean, but I was not scared of him. Anybody seen that episode of Friends where Ben Stiller is Rachel’s new boyfriend and every time Rach leaves the room, he starts being mean and cussing people out? That’s who Joshua reminded me of. If Donna’s boyfriend had just beat Joshua up one good time, then he would’ve left Donna alone. This whole story also felt drawn out and repetitive. This could’ve been over AT LEAST 100 pages earlier because all Donna had to do was set boundaries early in the situation. And another thing, there were no twists. Everything that could’ve been considered “a twist” was given to you on a silver platter very early in the book. All of my more intricate theories were better than what actually was “revealed”.
This book had promise, but it just didn’t feel very thrilling to me. If I was in the situation, I could’ve just beat Joshua up, by myself, and he would’ve left me alone.
Thank you Joffe Books and NetGalley for this arc. All opinions are my own.

The Roommate is a dark psychological thriller.
I found the story to be slow to start, but then it picked up. The main character was a little hard to root for, as she mostly thought about herself. If you're into books that require a suspension of disbelief, books with sinister characters and motivations, you'll like this book.
Thanks to NetGallery for my advanced copy.
When Donna inherits a beautiful home from a deceased relative, she decides she wants to have a roommate. So she posts an ad on Craig's List listing a room for rent. She believes she finds the perfect roommate in Joshua Flowers. However, all is not as it seems. Soon Joshua begins to take liberties including refusing to pay rent and getting involved in Donna's personal life. Will she be able to evict him before something worse happens?
I loved this book and kept thinking about it days after I put it down (which is rare for me).
The suspense and uncertainty: not knowing what Joshua has planned next and the revealing of his backstory had me hooked from the first few chapters on.
The descriptions are clear enough to visualize and many are appalling, especially as Joshua attempts to take the house over.
Donna, the lead character's growth is also interesting as she goes from naive to more cautious during and after her experience.
I highly recommend this compelling book. I will also be purchasing it for my own library during my next book haul.
I would like to thank the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
