This was a very interesting book about people you let to move in and be your room mate. I will never ever have someone move in after reading this.

SHE INVITED HIM IN, NOW SHE CAN’T GET HIM OUT . . .
Donna is so ready to start her new life. But the nightmare has only just begun.

🏠 The Roommate Review🏠

Author: Caroline Macon Fleischer

Rating: 3.5 ⭐️

Donna inherits her grandmother’s home at a time in her life when everything else seems to be at a stand still. She is working a dead end job without any prospects in her love life, when she decides to move to the home in California. Donna finds Joshua, a roommate to help share the financial burden but things quickly take a turn for the worse.

This debut novel was fast paced, but I found the characters to be frustrating. Donna ignored many red flags which made the story unbelievable at times. It was easy to guess what would happen next, so there wasn’t much of an element of surprise. Overall I’d give this story 3.5 stars, and I’m looking forward to seeing what Macon Fleischer comes out with next. Thank you to NetGalley for providing a digital ARC of The Roommate in exchange for my honest review!

This book was an easy read. A young woman who inherits her grandmother’s house decides to take in a roommate to help pay the bills and to find friendship. The new roommate is very manipulative and decides to rarely pay the rent. Ongoing issues back and forth between the two people were predictable. I guessed the main plot twist and the ending was just ok, nothing special. This book was very predictable the whole way through the book. It’s a 2 out of 5 stars.

DNF after about 20%. The writing was disjointed and just super awkward at times, especially some of the dialogue between the characters. There were also a number of grammar and punctuation errors.

There wasn’t much character development either, although I have to say that Donna was incredibly dumb.

I never DNF books, but just really wasn’t feeling this one.

This book was good although very predictable. I feel I've read the story before so it was hard to keep me interested.

An intense psychological thriller that keeps the reader engrossed until the very end.

The storyline moved along well so I wanted to see how it turned out but it seemed generic in terms of genre and didn’t ‘wow’ me

First of all thank you Netgalley for the ARC for The Roommate!
MINOR SPOILER ALERT <3

I read this book within a day! I love a good mystery book and this is just that. This book is about Donna, moving into her Grandmother's house and is looking for a bit of help and someone to ease her mind when it goes bump in the night. She posts an ad on craigslist and find what seems to be a lovely guy called Joshua! All seems well until he starts being harsh, making unreasonable demands and being overall quite dickish!
This book is a page turner and I am so excited to see what else the author has in store, this was a first book from this author for me, it won't be the last!

Caroline Macon Fleischer's The Roommate is a page turning mystery that will keep you at the edge of your seat. Once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down!

Donna is hoping for a new start in California, but her new roommate has other plans for her.

The Roommate is a gripping novel that you will want to read!

Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to read and review this book.

Donna isn’t really sure where she is going in life when one day, completely out of the blue, she inherits the home belonging to her estranged and deceased’s father’s mother. She travels from Chicago to California to see the house and immediately falls in love with it. After she moves in, she feels like something is missing…..she needs to find a roommate, someone to house H’s are with. Enter Joshua….

A number of times whilst reading I was sure how the story was going to continue. A couple of times I was aghast at what happened! I’m trying not to give too much away from the plot.

A book I enjoyed and wanted to read, if only to see how the book would be concluded.

Caroline definitely did NOT disappoint with this book. For a while I've been trying to expand the different genres I pick up, and being new to thriller this was just everything.

Donna's grandma Rudy, her deceased fathers, mother, has passed. Although she and Donna weren't close, for whatever reason she has decided to leave her home to Donna in her will. Over the moon about the opportunity to move to a new state such as California, Donna take the trip with her mother Addie to visit her new home. Filled with beautiful turquoise colors, and touches of her grandma, Donna can't wait to make it her own.

Not too much later Donna feels she is missing something, she isn't accustomed to living on her own and she's noticed some strange things about the home. Including the side door which has a mysteriously missing key, and an overwhelmingly long snake skin appearing at her front door step. Donna decides she needs a roommate until she an become accustomed to California and build a life for herself.

In comes, Joshua Flowers, an older gentleman who's responded to her craigslist ad about a wanted roommate. Soon Donna starts to notice he isn't everything he's made himself out to be. Did he jump the gun by rushing into allowing him to move in ? Should she have had him sign a lease ? Something is definitely off about this man.

I was on the edge of my seat until the very end of this wild ride. One lesson I've definitely taken away from this, NO craigslist ads for roommates.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for providing an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I liked the originality of this psych/domestic thriller. I've not come across a book like it, but it is much like a TV series on Netflix about bad roommates, which series had me hooked!

Donna packs up her miserable life and moves to California in a house she inherited. In need of some cash, she goes to Craigslist for a roommate. Things start to take a turn for the worst, odd things are happening around the house and it may well be the new roommate.

If you like following a fictional journey of a woman's battles, emotions, relationships, working out how to sort out dire situations and some sleuthing, this book is for you!

It is not the fastest paced thriller I've read, it was hard to pick up sometimes as I wasn't engrossed in it.

3 stars for me. Reductions for slow pace, typos, grammatical errors, disjointed writing, and parts of the writing in third person and jumping between two characters thoughts in the same paragraph.

This is the strangest gripe I've had with a book, but where there is a mother and daughter and the mother has a more modern name such as Addie and daughter has an older style name as Donna, it confused the s*** out of me at the start. I had to constantly remind myself. The first couple of chapters were actually hard for me to follow because of it.

I reduced my rating because of the ending. A huge build up to a quick twist, which was devastating and really made 3 of 4 main characters seem too dumb, which is not consistent with the balance of the book for 2 of them. Who gives someone they've acknowledged could be lethal a deadly weapon?! The ending ruined it for me and a close 3.5-4 star was reduced.

Talk about pest but in human form. But the pest is harmful, and could kill you.

Donna doesn’t sign up for this. She inherited a house from her grandmother, that one she never expected she needed. Soon she found a roommate to helped her withe the bills, and we’re met with Joshua.

Joshua seems normal enough. Great roommate actually. But obviously he’s not that good since he doesn’t know any boundaries; reads, wanting to know why he gotta pay the rent (???). It took a darker turn when Donna broughtbher boyfriend home, and she started to fear for her safety.

This is a good debut, but I was hoping for more backstory on Donna.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

The roommate by Caroline macon Fleischer.
SHE INVITED HIM IN, NOW SHE CAN’T GET HIM OUT . . .
This was a dark and twisted read with good characters. I wasn't sure how I felt about Donna. I certainly didn't like Joshua as I didn't trust him. I did like Cole. Wow I didn't see that coming. 5*.

The story was interesting. Donna has inherited a house from a grandmother she never felt connected to. This house was looked at as her fresh start. But was it?
The story keeps the reader interested but at times for me as the reader it could be frustrating what Donna was doing.
