The Last One is a cute story but in the end was really not my kind of book. Though the cover is cute and the description has the reader interested, which is why I wanted to read it, it ended up a little flat for me. Stories like this I find hard to get through and predictable and this one was no exception. I almost DNF’d this one but I did finish it. The biggest problem I had was I just couldn’t find myself becoming invested in the characters.

A. S. Kelly is a talented writer but unfortunately this book fell flat.

Truly a 2.5 star book for me but I’ve rounded it up to 3.

Thank you to #netgalley and #askelly for allowing me to read the eARC of this book. All opinions expressed above are my own.

I was drawn in by the cover and description, however this book didn't do it for me. While it was a cute romance, there were too many characters to follow and I just didn't feel invested,.

I almost did not finish this book. I had a really hard time following along with the dialogue because of the way the conversations were written. It was hard to distinguish who was talking during the group conversations, and it bounced back and forth between the characters so often that I had to reread those conversations a few times to figure out who said what lines.

I also did not connect with the female main character at all. She was rude and a man hater through and through. I did not see a lot of character growth throughout the book either.

I would like to make a note that although I did not care for this story, others might connect better with the characters and enjoy it.

This was so cute! A wonderful romance, filled with witty banter, delightful characters, and just enough steaminess. A must read for romance lovers!

I think that isn't the best book of the series, the cover and the description sounded better than it actually was, however still was a good read, maybe it was me who had high expectations on the book.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of The Last One by A.S. Kelly in exchange for an honest review. When reading the blurb about this book, I was excited to read it! The preface seemed adorable! Well, I didn't end up loving it as I had hoped. First of all, I had no idea it was the 4th book in a series. While many books that are part of a series could be read as stand-alone books, I found the beginning of this book quite confusing because there were things happening that I later realized, after realizing this was part of a series, must be explained in a previous book. Because of this, it made me uninterested in reading the book and I found myself not wanting to pick up my kindle. Because of this, I ended up finishing the book after it was actually published.

Usually, I don't continue reading a book past 20% if I am not into it but I actually stuck this one out. I'm not quite sure if I am happy that I did or not. The book picked up for me at about 40% through and at that point, I finished the last 60% of the book in 48 hours. it was the first 40% that took me weeks to read, which is very unlike me.

The whole storyline is about how Anya keeps pushing Owen away and Owen keeps coming back for more. This doesn't seem realistic to me but maybe I'm wrong. I also thought it was strange that almost all of the characters in the book have had some kind of messed up childhood or situation where they had a child they didn't know about. No one had a "normal" relationship. Once again, not sure how realistic that is.

I was excited to read this book because seriously, just based off the description I was so ready for the boy obsessed trope. However, I was disappointed by Anya and Owen's romance.

I found Anya's character so closed off for 95% of the book that most of the time I found myself rooting for Owen to end up with someone better. If it hadn't been for the pregnancy trope, I'm not sure I even would have liked Anya and Owen together. And while I loved all the side characters I found it so difficult to keep figure out who was with who and what everyone's relationships were until about a quarter of the way through the novel. This is partially because I read the novel as a stand-alone and had I read the previous 3 books it would make much more sense.

Overall, this book didn't quite hit the mark for me as I didn't love Anya as a character and am not always a fan of the pregnancy trope. Also, side note/spoiler, we don't even get to meet the baby in the epilogue???? Although I loved the ending, that was a disappointment to me.

Thank you to Netgalley and Xpresso Book Tours for an advanced reader copy of The Last One

I just couldn’t connect on this one. I haven’t read anything by this author before but was still hopeful. There was a lot going on with the number of characters, and the main female character was just unlikeable. I stopped around 30% unfortunately.

I received this on netgalley in exchange for a review.

Solid three stars - it took a bit to get used to all the characters, I blame myself for that because I haven’t read the other three books in this universe, but even then I eventually got who was who.

I’m not the biggest accidental pregnancy fan, but I didn’t mind the dynamic of the guy-who-is-in-love and the woman-who-doesn’t-trust-any-men (although there were times I felt it got a little overboard).

Did think it went on a bit too long, but overall, not bad.

I was sold on the cover, and description alone. Set in a small town Anya is a woman who has a distrust for men, stemming from her childhood. I found her character to be a bit annoying at times. Owen's character was a breath of fresh air, I found him charming an super sweet. It's a slow burn standalone in a series. I was bored at times, and then the story would pick up. Overall it was a decent read. I felt it could've had more background information.

The idea in this book is a common one and it seemed to appeal to me but in the end, it couldn't get me super stoked about reading it. 2.5 stars.

I normally don’t like pregnancy tropes… and this one wasn’t an exception, but it was pretty tolerable. The writing at times felt choppy however I did like that it was a dual POV and the friend group is incredibly entertaining. If you want a quick romcom escape with a grumpy girl x sunshine boy trope this is for you!

I was drawn by this cover and excited to dive in. In practice, though, I struggled with the writing style. Despite a few attempts I did not finish the book. Thank you for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

Thank-you NetGalley for the chance to review this ARC.

This was a fun short read.
I liked the characters or I should say I grew to love them.
Anya was a bit too much at times so that was a little hiccup I had with the book.
Owen was really great and really kind. I'm a big fan of the surprise pregnancy trope so I was looking forward to this.
It was overall good and not great.

Unfortunately I was unable finish this book. It seemed chaotic and I had a hard time relating to the characters in any way. The beginning seemed to be too rushed and did not give enough character devolpement for someone that did not read the books previous to this one.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book before it is released.

Let me start out by saying that I didn't realize this was the 4th book in a series and I think I would have liked it more if I read the other books in the series. There are so many side characters (which I could assume are the couples from the other books in the series) which made the story very confusing. It was hard to keep track of the couples and their relationships.

I didn't connect with the character Anya at all; although, Owen was dreamy and I loved his character.

First and foremost i’d like to thank Netgalley for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review

I really wanted to like this book, the cover and name made me super excited… unfortunately it didn’t meet all of my expectations

In this book we follow Anya:
a woman who only loves herself and her friends and who, under no circumstances, trusts any men
And Owen:
new “provisory” fireman who manages to get under Anya’s skin

-
A super fast paced and easy to read book but predictable plot and tropes that don’t work for me personally

-
Overall I enjoyed it, but I didn’t love it!

Initially the cover and description of this book sparked my interest and I went into it with the expectation that I would be getting interesting characters and plot. However, it did not reach said expectations and that’s for many reasons. Firstly, the writer wants us to supposedly believe that the characters are grown adults who know how to conduct themselves but it was not believable—-their attitudes, their speech and how they interacted with each other did not reflect one that of an adult. It was almost like reading a high school romance with freshmen navigating their first day.

Secondly, the friend group aspect of it could’ve been a wholesome aspect of the book but nobody really seemed to care about each other, just curious about the other’s business and I didn’t feel that sense of friendship (closeness). In addition to that, Anya was barely a likable character and I discovered this by the end of the book. She didn’t know how to communicate, she sent way too many mixed signals and she’s mean spirited. She didn’t exude a roller coaster of emotions that made me feel for her, she just kept contradicting herself when she opened her mouth and it got tiring.

At 32% I was ready to stop reading but I wanted to give the story a chance to redeem itself—but it didn’t. Nevertheless, some of the descriptions were relatable and described well.

Final opinions: Anya and Owen didn’t need a happy ending. This wasn’t a memorable story.

I couldn't get into this book because I found the h to be very grating and not at all likeable. A lot of books read well as standalones despite being part of a series but this one does not. There were constant references to things that had happened before so it was a lot of work to follow the story but the characters weren't likeable enough to make it worth the effort.

This was a cute romcom read with a huge cast of characters.

I loved the hero Owen. His gentle personality and unending kindness towards the heroine really endeared him to me. Anya was a lot at times but her quirks had me smiling a lot. Surprise pregnancy can be a hit or miss trope for me but this one was fun and definitely on the sweeter side of romance.
