I really enjoyed reading this lovely children's book, which helps toddlers and younger children understand what it is like to have a new baby in the family. The book is beautiful to look at, as it has lovely photographs, and easy to read text which is set out nicely. At the end of the book there is also a guide to help with different words. I recommend this book highly, as it is so interesting and useful.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
This book, made for emergent readers of 0 to 6 years old, is to help them interested in reading, and learning new words. But this book is also a great help to soon-to-be big brother or sister. Telling them what baby is, and how to care for them would be a great help to parents preparing older kids on what to expect when baby comes.
This was a good read to share with my kids. We just had a new baby and they enjoyed it. It was a good read for anyone expecting with other kiddos
Simple text, clear photographs that illustrate what the text is saying, and the breakdown of what a baby needs is a great way to help prepare a child for an arrival of a new member of the family as well as show how they can help keep that baby safe!
A very nice addition to the home or classroom library. Well organized book with a few pages on content words, high frequency words as well as more information for the parent or teacher to help the child on their reading journey. The photos are great and help early readers gain meaning.
This book is about getting a new sibling. It is a beginning reader that uses simple sentence structures, decodable text and sight words to tell a story that young readers will be able to comprehend and follow. The pictures are real photographs (realia) and match the text well. This is especially helpful when teaching young readers the strategy of looking at the picture. It is also helpful for children learning English as an additional language. At the end of the book are some guiding questions and word lists to help teach reading at home and at school. I would recommend this book for teachers and families looking for simple texts to support young readers who are learning to read with increasing independence. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this text.
This would be a great way to introduce young children to the idea that a new baby will be joining the family while also giving them an idea of what to expect. It focuses more on what babies are like instead of what a child might feel when getting a new sibling, but it's still a helpful way to talk about the transition and prepare kids for the new arrival. Photos help reinforce the text so young readers can "see" while they read. The language is very simple, so this would be good to read with a preschooler or for a new reader to use for independent practice. A guide is included at the end with helpful literacy exercises and a list of words in the text.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
A nice little book of photographs and descriptions showing new babies and their families going about their daily lives -- holding the baby, feeding, bathing, etc. This is a good book for parents to share with children who are about to become older siblings -- it will show them how they can contribute to caring for the baby and have fun doing it!
Mary Lindeen has written a number of books that are for very beginning readers. This time, she looks at what it is like to bring a new baby into a family. The photos that accompany the simple text are lovely. Children who spend time with this book will be proud of their progress in learning to read on their own.
Note: There is also helpful information included for the adults who are encouraging their children’s literacy.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Norwood House for this title. All opinions are my own.
