W.E.B. Griffin’s legacy of characters continues in THE DEVIL’S WEAPONS, in which “Wild Bill” Donovan orders Canidy and Fulmar to go behind enemy lines on a mission with almost non-existent chance of survival. Ordering men to march to their deaths is a burden of command, and one that must be taken to ensure the peace found at the other side of war. The mission is to go into Poland to locate and rescue a rocket scientist, one whose research may tip the scale of the war.
Although Griffin sadly passed away in 2019, readers were far from ready to let go of the characters he’d created. So when the W.E.B. Griffin estate and Penguin decided to continue the Men at War series, they turned to author Peter Kirsanow, with the caveat that the new stories maintain the continuity and chronology of the previous ones.

This book is set in Poland during WWII. Everyone is looking for a scientist with a possible world changing invention. Plenty of action and danger with a realistic portrayal of what people went thru during the war. The book is part of a series but could be read as a stand alone. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
The Devil's Weapons by Peter Kirsanow is a continuation of W.E.B. Griffin's Men at War series featuring members of the OSS during World War II. Dick Canidy and other agents of the OSS are charged with the impossible; getting a scientist out of occupied Poland. The rocket scientist is the brains behind a German weapon that has the ability to change the world. Only probably is the Russians want him also and Germany will do anything to prevent him from escaping. The fate of the world is literally in this scientist's head and its up to Dick Canidy and his team to save the world from the Nazi domination.
This was my first time in Griffin's Men at War series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I requested The Devil's Weapons solely based on Peter Kirsanow and his previous works. Not knowing anything of the characters or series, it didn't take long until I was pulled in and immersed into World War II. My only gripe deals with the timeline throughout the book. At certain points the timeline seemed out of whack like a chapter was out of place. Or I could just not be smart enough to follow along. Either way, it wasn't detrimental to the story and easily to get back on track.
Whether you are a fan of Griffin's Men at War series or a newb like me, there is plenty to love in The Devil's Weapons.
My sincere thanks to Peter Kirsanow, G.P. Putnam's Sons, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of The Devil's Weapons.
O My Goodness! What a fantastic story!! W.E.B. Griffin The Devil's Weapons by Peter Kirsanow is a GEM! Having all of the Men at War series, I truly excited to find this newest addition. And it IS a good one...It's July 1943.. Wild Bill Donovan, head of the OSS, picks Major Dick Candy and Lt. Eric Fulmar to go into Poland with over 200k Germans in the area (and advancing Soviets to the east)! Their mission is to locate and rescue Prof. Sebastian Kapsky, a recent escapee from the Katyn concentration camp. He is sought after by both the Nazis and the Russians! Roosevelt. Churchill. Stalin. Hitler. "It is an instrument of civilizational dominance or civilizational destruction." Are Canada and Fulmar on a suicide mission? Chance of finding Kapsky before the Germans or Russians do?
Meanwhile, both competing opponents are sending out their best killers/assassins to locate capture and secure Kapsky! This super tale is told against the clock! For two years since escaping, Prof Kapsky has solely evaded capture! Now, the three superpowers are ardently pursuing him. Why? He quite possibly has the solution TO END THIS WAR!
Peter Kirsanow is outstanding in his plotline, pacing, tension-building, human-side/soldier-side telling. I've read all of W.E.B. Griffin's series, fan? YES! Wishing and Hoping Kirsanow continues with more Men at War novels? YES! have I missed Dick Canady and Eric Fulmar in the over ten year hiatus since their last book? YES!
Do I highly recommend this outstanding Men at War novel? YES! YES! YES!
Set during WWII in Poland the different sides all trying to find the same thing and prevent the others from getting it. The determination that they all show really shows how they thought that this was so important to win the war. This was a great book to help you understand the things people went through during this time.
This was a great book. I loved every paragraph, every sentence and every word of this masterpiece! I read it in 12 hours, which is a lot for me to do! It had everything and more laid out in the novel! I sure hope he writes more! I am totally hooked!
I thought that I would enjoy this book, as I have read some of his work before, but was disappointed that this book just couldn't grab my attention.
A fast paced and action packed novel. A good story. However, you can tell that this is not the original author of the series. There are a few mistakes with the characters and matching of dates and relationships related to the rest of the series. The ending was abrupt and left the reader confused. Overall a good read, but not as good as the original series.
Thank you to #NetGalley, for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
