I did not enjoy this book. Which was a letdown because I was really excited about it. Overall, I felt that the characters didn't have any good chemistry. I would love to see just a little more tension between the protagonists. Also, I think the characters could've been written better. I didn't find the ending to be believable either because of the chemistry with the characters. I think the characters needed some more development.
I absolutely LOVED this book!
Jada is a rich kid grown up. She has no plans for her future and nothing to fall back on. When she goes on a reality dating show, not only does her parents disown her, but she becomes the most hated woman in America after she says no to his marriage proposal. So now what does she have?
Donovan is a football player turned cupcake business owner. His new shop, Sugar Blitz, is on the rise, but just needs a little something to help boost business. Little does he know that by accepting the request that he hire his team owners granddaughter to work for him will lead to a lot more than just a new employee.
Y’all have to know that Fake Dating is one of my all time favorite tropes, so when I saw the title, I had my fingers crossed… because I tried something new and DIDN’T READ THE SYNOPSIS!!! I went by cover (which is EVERYTHING!!!!) and title! Who am I?
I was not disappointed in the least! This had everything I was wanting from a RomCom and more! Plus, reality TV! It’s like a gay boys w3t dream!!!!! I loved it!
This is a must read for the summer! 😍
This was a cute celebrity romance! When an ex football player and a reality star are forced to work together, the heat in the bakery intensifies, and not only in the oven! ;)
It’s Hallmark but with dirty talk and sex. So, a little too fluffy and cheesy at times for my taste and, in that setting, the naughty kinda got uncomfortable. BUT, if that’s your jam, then you’ll love this story! And I liked the audio well enough. The narrator had good timing and inflections and gave the right tone for the story.
I really liked the overall setup and Donovan, the cupcake shop owning footballer was fun. I didn’t like Jada so much. I think there’s a line between sassy and nasty, and she crossed it too many times. I liked her backstory of reality star gone wrong, but the inability to tough out any job for 6 months skewed too far into unrealistic privileged princess.
The fake-dating story took too long to get going but once it did it was cute and a lot of fun. I loved the way Jada starts to add events and life to the store and I wanted even more of that. There are some decent backstory and parental drama that is introduced but not given enough depth. It really is a surface book, lots of cute and love and heat, not a lot of exploration.
The miscommunication went on too long and made the ending a little too OTT and also dull. I feel mean, I didn’t hate the book, but overall, it just had a lot of little things I didn’t like, sprinkled in with some good setups and characters I did like, that left me underwhelmed.
This books was a combination of some of my favorite things: cupcakes, enemy to lover trope, fake dating, and some steaminess. I loved it! Jamie Wesley does a fantastic job with character development and creating such a fun couple.
I listened to the audiobook, and I really enjoyed the narration. It was easy to follow and very enjoyable.
Thank you St. Martin's Griffin for my gifted copy and Macmillan Audio for my gifted audiobook.
This book was so stinking cute! I loved the unique story line of a famous athlete and a rich girl who start out despising one another but the banter is just so good to deny that they end up falling in love. I loved the drama, and the way that these went from fake dating to falling in love. This was such a quick and feel good rom com that I was needing in the moment!
This was such a cute enemies to lovers fake dating read. I love reading positive #blacklove romances that don't feature negative images or mire in Black pain.
I enjoyed seeing the growth in Jada and the confidence that was instilled in her as she came into her own working at the bakery. Donovan also learned to be less controlling and trusting.
Together they made a sweet sexy couple worth cheering for.
I like that this is a slow-burn romance and falling in love happened organically for Jada and Donovan. It made their eventual HEA all the more sweeter.
We need more Black romances like this and I want to read them all. Congrats to Jamie Wesley on a sweet treat of a book.
Things I loved about this book: cupcake shop, fake dating, footfall, Black romance, flirting while baking, the angst, and of course, the steamy scenes!
I loved both Jada and Donovan, and even though this is a single narration by Kassiopia DeVora, DeVora does a phenomenal job!
Jada appears to be a spoiled and rich woman 20 something who only cares about her next pet project. But she is so much more. I loved her passion, creativity, and ability to bring out those things in others. I love that she also tackles her Dyslexia head on and refuses to be shamed by it even from her parents.
Donovan is a determined and hardworking cinnamon roll that will do whatever it takes to lookout for his family as well as continue his love of baking alongside football. Even though spontaneity isn’t in his vocab, watching his break down his walls with Jada was awesome.
These two characters really were the driving power behind this story because their chemistry felt effortless. They brought out the best in each other, even during some really rough situations, but I was invested nonetheless.
