A little bit of everything with this one. An Amish thriller, romance and mystery.
Shauna McKay an independent young woman. Going to school in Chicago and trying to make a way for herself. Growing up in a single family home, her mother had many problems. She loved her mother however, she also was trying to escape the traps her mother had such as drugs and crime. When her mother had called her with a warning that she was frightened and told her to go to her brother's house. He was living in the Amish community and was off the grid. Instead Shauna went directly to her mother's house and discovered her body. From then on, Shauna is on the run where she meets the local sheriff Liam.
Liam and the local Amish people come together to protect Shauna and to solve the crime of who was powerful enough to come after Shauna.
Many times a thriller does not have an depth into the minds of the main characters but this did. You feel for Shauna and what she went thru and was going thru. Who could trust? How she was introduced to the Amish and comparing the different lifestyles. Liam had his own background which I favored more. He was coming of a bad relationship and tragedy and his own guilt of that relationship. What he could have done. He and Shauna together learn about faith, trust and hope and what it brings full circle. Love.
A special thank you to Harlequin and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
Shauna's mothers calls her up one day to run and don't come to the house. Clearly that's gonna be the first thing she goes and finds her mothers body. Now she's on the run and it's apparent that someone is after her. Sheriff Liam Harland managed to come across one of her accidents and is now trying to help her out by hiding her in the Amish community while they figure out who is behind it all and why.
I usually stray away from books that have the Amish community but I was curious this time to see how it would play in this. And this book did not disappoint. I loved the whole mystery of wondering what was going on and why. There was so much going on that I just couldn't put it down. Then there was the slight interest going on with Shauna and Liam that was interesting. This book was very much faith based which is also something I usually stray away from but it was all good not overwhelming I suppose. Overall pretty book mystery suspense book I really enjoyed it.
Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin-Romance for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have to say that I absolutely adored this mystery. The characters were wonderful, and I really liked the connection between Liam and Shauna. The action kept me turning pages.
This is a Clean Romantic Suspense. I really loved the characters in this book, and I could feel the connection the two main characters had. I enjoyed the Amish parts in this book as well. I really love the action and suspense in this book. I did guess part of the reveal before it was revealed, but I still really loved the ending. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Love Inspired Suspense) or author (Laura Scott) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Fast paced story that will keep you engaged from the first page to the last.
Main character, Shauna, has had a rough life. She is finally at a place in her life that things are going well for her. Then she gets a call from her mother that has Shauna running for her life.
A intriguing suspense mystery with a Amish storyline.
Finding faith is the theme of Hiding in Plain Sight.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
My blurb …
In the book’s first sentence, a disparate phone call from her mother changes Shauna McKay’s life completely. And it would be the last time Shauna would ever hear her voice. Shauna flees to her uncle who lives in an Amish community and the local sheriff, Liam Harland, convinces her to hide with the Amish — she’ll blend in. But when a young Amish woman is attacked in a public place, can Liam really protect Shauna and stop the killer?
My review …
When a book hooks you with the very first sentence, you cross your fingers and hope it stays that way to the end. Hiding in Plain Sight did. The book is a clean Amish mystery/suspense. The characters are engaging. The pacing is intense; the reader wants to know what happens next. Gotta flip that page. The plot is not same-o, same-o. And the killer is determined to kill Shauna.
Sure, the author Laura Scott takes some poetic license with the Amish side of the story. For example, no “English” woman would be able to pin herself into an Amish dress and apron having been shown only once and that in a hurry.
But I enjoyed the story so much, forgiveness was in the next page flip. Had to see what happened next! And it’s only her second Amish novel (haven’t read it yet). Hopefully, more research will eliminate those concerns.
If you like Amish mystery/suspense, Hiding in Plain Sight (an overused book title) should definitely be on your must-read list. I received a complimentary e-ARC copy of Hiding in Plain Sight via NetGalley from the publisher, HARLEQUIN – Romance (U.S. & Canada), Love Inspired Suspense. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Hiding in Plain Sight by Laura Scott is a captivating romantic suspense. I enjoyed getting to know Shaunna, Liam, David, and Elizabeth. I thought Hiding in Plain Sight was well-written with steady pacing. I loved all the action that propelled the story quickly to its conclusion. I enjoyed the suspense and intrigue. The story captured my attention. I wanted to know who was behind the attacks on Shauna. I thought the title of the book was spot on. Hiding in Plain Sight is a Christian story with no foul language or intimate situations (just a couple of kisses). Love, faith, courage, and family are the main themes. I liked Shauna’s faith journey. She needed to learn to trust in God and know He is always with us. I am glad the author included an epilogue that nicely wrapped up the book. Hiding in Plain Sight is a gripping tale with a murdered mother, disquieting gunshots, a car conundrum, a striking sheriff, a concerned uncle, accommodating Amish, an astounding discovery, and finding faith.
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
This Is Shauna and Liam’s story and they sure start off meeting in the most unconventional way…. An accident. Shauna is running from Chicago after finding a family member dead and learning people were coming after Shauna next.
Buckle your seat belts because after getting run off the road Shauna travels with Liam to Green Lake where her uncle resides and where her mom urged her to go. Trouble seems to follow them to Green Lake though and they won’t be safe until they can figure out who wants Shauna dead.
I finished this read in one setting, it is fast paced and full of action.
The plot is almost like your are reading the headlines, or listening to the news, and of course, shaking my head. Especially, when you get to the end, possible, oh yes!
Why would someone want to kill her mother? Now they are after her! Why? Will she be able to hide in plain sight, dressing as an Amish woman?
We journey in this Amish community for answers, and found myself ducking, and wanting to take cover! Keep reading these people are serious, and you need to read right to the end for answers, I had no clue!
I'll be looking for more by this author!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Harlequin, and was no required to give a positive review.
Hiding in Plain Sight is an intense book, start to finish. Shauna is a student that receives a disturbing call from her mother, she goes to see her mother and finds her murdered. Shauna flees the scene and is run off the road and almost killed. That is when she meets Liam, a good Samaritan that also happens to be sheriff nearby. Liam, a widower, feels the need to protect Shauna, since someone is apparently after her. As time goes on, they become good friends, and eventually they discover who is after her. The story is a good, clean story that will definitely hold your interest until the end. Great story!
One star
This is not an Amish book. The cover suggests it is but it is not. I was very disappointed.
"Hiding in Plain Sight" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. Shauna grew up distrusting the police, but she needed the sheriff's help when someone forced her off the road, causing a car accident. Her mother warned her that someone was threatening her and that Shauna would be the next target. With her mother murdered, they must discover why Shauna's a target while avoiding the attacker. Shauna and Liam worked well together and respected each other. They came to care for each other as they got to know each other. They asked questions of her uncle and looked through old personal stuff for information. The suspense came from the repeated attacks.
The Christian element was about trusting God. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable romantic suspense.
