When she is pushed into a windowless van and finds herself in the hands of a serial killer Amber is angry and sacred. When she is rescued by a woman with cattle prod, she can’t’ believe it. But things come apart and she leaves her academic lift behind and travels to Las Vegas. Soon she is the target of another serial killer. What luck? And he is her rescuer’s twin. It’s a tangled story and Amber is in jeopardy. A little too much vulgar language for my taste.
I loved this book! Killing Me was the book I didn't know I needed. Who would have thought a thriller could also be hilarious. Amber Jamison was on her way home from class, late at night. Her first mistake. There is a serial killer on the loose. Now Amber is possibly the killer's next victim. At this point, as the reader I am waiting for a tense scene to unfold. No such luck. Amber uses humor as a coping mechanism and I was completely hooked,
Amber reminded me a bit like Janet Evanovich's character, Stephanie Plum. Michelle Gagnon wrote a character that you laughed with and made you slap your forehead with all the mayhem in her wake. The cast of supporting characters like Dot and her sleuthing friends, to Marcella the hooker with a heart and Grace. Without giving any spoilers, Grace was a bad ass, prickly and snarky but I liked her as much as Amber.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for allowing me to read this incredibly fun thriller. Michelle Gagnon has earned a new fan! Read this book ASAP.
Thanks to NetGalley for this early read. Might be more of a 3.5 star but rounding up because I was interested enough to find out what happened.
The main character is kind of a shit show and I feel like some her story is unresolved and left us guessing but it was interesting to read cons conning other cons and serial killers. I definitely second guessed a couple times.
Worth the read overall.
AHHHHHH! This one was so witty and fun and I'm so thankful to Michelle Gagnon, NetGalley, and Putnam Books for granting me a finished copy and digital ARC access before this baby hit shelves on May 16, 2023.
Imagine thinking that you are very street smart and remain very aware of your surroundings only to be abducted from the front of your college apartment. This was the case for Amber.
She was saved from being murdered by the Pikachu Serial Killer by a serial killer huntress, by the name of Grace.
Both women end up on a trip to Las Vegas. Grace can barely tolerate Amber, but is wary to leave her, as Amber has blatantly told Grace, she will tell the authorities all about her little escapades.
Amber eventually becomes friends with the Manager, Dot, of the Getaway Motel in Vegas.
Dot it the leader a group of women called the Fatal Femmes. Amber and Grace can’t call the police because both of them have skeletons in their past, that they don’t want anyone to know about it. What are those skeletons?
The group embark on trying to help Amber and Grace trap the serial killer. Will Dot lead the group to capture the serial killer?
The book was filled with some scenes that were actually kind of funny at times. I enjoyed the plot, as well as the characters in the book. There were times that I didn’t want to put the book down.
Looking forward to reading more books by this author.
Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.
Killing Me is a tongue-and-cheek thriller with a healthy dose of humor. The story starts off with a bang-- our narrator is kidnapped by a serial killer and finds herself in a very compromising position. Then, a mysterious masked woman saves her from the killer, only to bring even more weirdness and questions to our heroine, Amber's, life.
Gagnon has written a really fun adventure, with some interesting twists and turns and a cast of awesome female characters. If you like your thrillers with a little less angst and a little more laughs, then Killing Me is for you. The audio version is narrated brilliantly by Jaime Lamchick.
Overall, I recommend this title for fans of the Finlay Donovan series by Elle Cosimano.
I was drawn in by the premise of KILLING ME: "Amber Jamison can’t believe she’s about to become the latest victim of a serial killer. She’s savvy and street smart, so when she gets pushed into, of all things, a white windowless van, she is more angry than afraid."
Not only does Amber feel stupid to have been kidnapped, she was picked up by the Pikachu Killer: a guy who paints his victims to look like Pokemon before killing them.
Anyway that about sets the tone for the book. I hesitate to mention many more details because those were half the fun. My biggest critique is that the main character vomits four times, a side character does once, and there's a guy in the background who does too -- unnecessarily gross. I also think the interludes could have been more plentiful, or differently arranged (i.e., appear sooner in the overall structure of the novel).
But this was a story that kept me engaged, and offered something a bit different than your run-of-the-mill thriller. I'd recommend giving it a shot if it sounds like it might be up your alley!
I loved this book so much! It was thrilling and it had the perfect amount of comedy to it making it unique to what I've been reading lately. I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves suspense and comedy all in one
Interesting read. How rare is it to be hunted down by one serial killer and then to get hunted down by another? “Amber” is on the run after thinking the FBI wants to talk to her after she escapes the first one. The story starts out a little a slow but picks up as Amber is on the run and starting to fight back.
I really enjoyed the read, many twist and turns. Just when I thought we weren't gonna find out who the woman was at the beginning she comes back again and I just knew it was going to be good.
KILLING ME was lighthearted murderous fun! I loved following the misadventures of a woman as she tries to outrun her past and avoid a serial killer. This unique story felt fresh, creative, and had me laughing out loud. Michelle Gagnon did a great job of brining levity to a morbid situation. This is a rich cast of characters and a unique plot that I won't soon forget! Readers who enjoy original stories or the found family trope will want to pick this up. This was my first book by the author and I'm eager to pick up more of her books.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an electronic ARC in exchange for an honest review.
4.25 stars!
"Killing Me" by Michelle Gagnon had me laughing out loud from start to finish! It's one of the few books I've read this year that feels wholly unique in its execution and in its story. This is a fantastic thriller with lots of twists and turns. The plot keeps morphing and changing in unexpected, interesting ways. Sure, you may have to suspend your disbelief just a little bit, but that's alright with me. I sincerely could not put this book down. It's so fast-paced and compelling that I finished it in one afternoon, in one sitting. I loved the snark, I loved the sass, I loved the characters, I loved the chase, I loved the thrills, I loved the imagination! You will be entranced by "Killing Me" from page one, I guarantee it.
Thank you to NetGalley, Michelle Gagnon, PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, and G.P. Putnam's Sons for providing me with an ARC copy of this book! All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for my review.
What a breath of fresh air! I couldn’t put this book down, it gripped me from the start to the end. The opening was so beyond original and fun. What a kooky group of characters!
What do you get when you add a grifter who has been trying to go straight, a woman who hunts serial killers, and…a serial killer. What you get is a wild and somewhat weird book by Michelle Gagnon. Killing Me is a crazy romp through Las Vegas, as Amber (the somewhat reformed but for how long grifter), a serial killer hunter, and a plethora of characters try to track down and contain a killer.
At times this book almost left me breathless. It was funny, scary, interesting and weird all at once. The characters are quirky, sympathetic, and so varied. I really enjoyed this book simply because it’s different and original. The plot is unique, the setting is so perfect (where else but Las Vegas are you going to find such an array of people?), and the dialogue is crisp. This is a book that definitely captured my attention and the ending just felt right. This is a 4.5 stars for me.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.
Not really my type of book. I can't figure out who it's meant for, but not me.
Lots of drama as the main character is on the run.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this novel. #sponsored

Imagine getting taken by a serial killer, getting rescued, going on the run from the FBI and then finding yourself trying to take down another serial killer. I was gripped from the get go with this funny, fast paced vigilante plot.
The story is mainly told by Amber, with some interlude chapters. There's a nice set of side characters that Amber meets along the way. Overall, this was quite a ride that I never wanted to end. I'll definitely be reading more from this author.
I was pleasantly surprised by this thriller. It was funny, quirky, well written and the plot wrapped up nicely, but not too predictably. 4/5 stars
Amber Jamison is a twenty-four year old psychology student with one semester left before she graduates with a full fledged honest degree that she has longed for and worked so hard to achieve with her future life all planned out and she is right now going to lose everything but most importantly she about to Die at the hands of a serial killer! How did this happen to her? Oh, no! She is lying naked on a steel table all tied up and painted blue and if the news reports are correct she will be bald as well. She is going to die any moment by the infamous Pikachu serial killer! "This can't be happening! "
Amber has always been ahead of the game with extra intuitive instincts and a sharp and cunning mind since she was raised by two grifters who made their way throughout life scamming, stealing, cheating anyone and everything using and teaching Amber all the tricks of their trade so she ended up with some of the best and most unusual survival skills that any young woman would be lucky or unlucky (depending on the situation) to own in her life's arsenal.
As luck would have it, Amber survives this unbelievable horror by a masked savior who she will be indebted to forever for saving her life. Now, the FBI are looking for Amber so she has to go on the run once again with her future career down the drain. She decides to travel to California and prays to make a new honest life again since she was given a second chance to truly be alive because she should have been dead just like the other victims of the Pikachu killer. Amber makes a stop in Las Vegas to earn some money along the way as she continues to receive helpful although mysterious text messages from an unknown number and thinks they're from her savior. Shortly after, she sets herself up in a cheap motel and once again finds herself the main target of another serial killer. How can this be humanly possible? Can anyone survive two serial killers back to back especially when the second one is deadlier than the first if that is even possible! This time Amber's luck is about to run out because anyone she befriends will now be in the killer's sights but she needs some serious help before her young lifetime is up.
What a terrific book that Michelle Gagnon has written! I can't believe how much I enjoyed and was entertained by this story. It was light, dark, comedic, dramatic, sassy, emotional and so much more! All the characters were wonderful, especially sassy Amber. The Vegas situations were just so atmospheric and picturesque through and through. I'm so happy I was given the chance to read "Killing Me" and I definitely plan to follow and read more of this author's books. I think k this book is perfect for horror and dark thriller readers as it does have quite a bit of violence, bloody, and dark situations but it was also fun with much frivolity thrown in.
I highly recommend this book! Just so, so good!
I want to thank the publisher "Penguin Group Putnam/ G.P. Putnam Son's" and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book and any thoughts or opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!

Unfortunately I had a bit of trouble getting into this one. I think some out there will really like it, but it just was not for me. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
