while the premise held my interest, I couldn't help but feel disappointed by the execution of the romance. Instead of a gradual and believable development of affection between the main characters, the romance felt erratic and disjointed. At times, it seemed to oscillate between intense passion and bitter animosity, leaving me unsure of the characters' true feelings towards each other.
In particular, I found the dynamic between the protagonists to be frustratingly inconsistent. Rather than a slow-burning and heartfelt romance, their interactions often devolved into heated arguments and petty squabbles. While I understand the appeal of the 'I hate you but I can't resist you' trope, it felt overused and detracted from the emotional depth of the relationship.
Despite these flaws, I still found myself invested in the story and eager to uncover its secrets. The author's skillful storytelling and knack for creating compelling plot twists kept me turning the pages, even as I struggled to fully connect with the central romance.

This was an enjoyable paranormal romcom. If you like romance books but with a twist, read this. Maisey drove me a little crazy at times but overall this was a fun read.
This was a fun romance! I requested the book because I was interested in the concept, a demon and a human, but make it a rom-com, sign me up! Imperfect Angel had a but of enemies to lovers, and opposites attract. Tropest that I enjoy. This was fun, albeit a little long and I feel like the constant back and forth got tiring. Rhys was also very unlikable and times and I'm not sure if he was fully redeemed in my eyes.
Overall, I liked this book and may eventually pick up the next book in the series.
Three days ago, all Maisy Norgate had was a stack of bills, about a gazillion jobs, and her sunny-as-hell outlook. Now, thanks to an uncle she never knew about, she’s inherited an ornate skeleton key with absolutely no idea what it’s for—or why she has it. Which is exactly when a ridiculously handsome guy claiming to be an angel shows up at her door and all hell breaks loose...
Nephilim Rhys Boyce cannot believe that Maisy is the new Keeper of the Key. Why would anyone bequeath this warm, bubbly redhead the key to Hell? And to make matters worse, she’s given the key to the first person who asked for it. A demon. Yep, Maisy is determined to make his job—not to mention some seriously inconvenient temptation—as hard as possible.
First a half angel with a very human chip on his shoulder must find a way to convince Maisy that angels and demons do exist. Then Rhys will have to break the really bad news...that she might have accidentally ended the world.
Ember of Night but for the adult audience. A story with chemistry that's off the charts and a sizzling hot banter that had me unable to put the book down!
Thank you Netgalley and the Publishers for this ARC for an exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book, I thought it was well written.
"Imperfect Angel" by Christi Barth is a heartfelt and emotionally resonant romance that explores the complexities of love, healing, and second chances. Barth's storytelling prowess shines as she crafts a tale of redemption, vulnerability, and the power of acceptance. The book's well-developed characters and tender plot create an immersive reading experience that resonates with fans of romance. Barth skillfully navigates the emotions of her characters, adding depth to the narrative and making it a compelling read for romance enthusiasts. "Imperfect Angel" is a reminder that even in the face of past mistakes, love has the ability to mend wounds and offer a path to happiness, leaving readers with a warm and hopeful feeling as they accompany the characters on their journey of healing and love.
It's been awhile since I read a paranormal romance and this one was an interesting premise. There was a bit of a lack of bonding and romance when it comes to the couples and was a bit to slow pacing wise.
I have read a handful of other books by Christi. They have all been contemporary romances. So, this paranormal romance book is a nice switch up. The quirky humor was what I loved the most about this book. Maisy and Rhys shared some witty banter. Rhys definitely had his hands full with Maisy. The romance between these two was sweet with a kick of spice.
While I did enjoy this book, I did find that it seemed to move along kind of slowly at times for me. Where I would find myself rereading passages. This is partly due to the fact that it was not instalove for me with Maisy and Rhys. I "liked" them, but it was not until later in the story that I "loved" them. Despite my feelings about this book, I would read another paranormal romance by this author.
THIS WAS SO FUN!! The plot. Check. The Characters. Check. The banter. Triple check! I absolutely loved this book and definitely want to read more, more, more from this author!
I loved it, it was witty, fun and a really enjoyable read, The lore wasn't to hard to understand. And the chemistry between the two leads was amazing. A quick fun rea,
Thanks to Entangled Publishing, Netgalley and the author for an ARC of this book. I am leaving this unbiased review voluntarily.
I have no idea why it took me so long to read this book. All I can say is, I wish I hadn't waited but I am glad I did - I know that makes no sense. I have been on a bit of a supernatural romance jag at the moment, so I was really in the mood to read this.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I am not sure if this is the beginning of a series, but given the author's note at the end, I hope we can expect another one.
Rhys is a half angel who kind of works for heaven but is an independent agent of sorts. When he and his co-workers (also half angels, also unbelievably good looking) are tasked with finding the new Keeper of the Gates of Hell, he is disappointed to find that she has no knowledge and no training whatsoever and that he will have a big job in protecting her while she takes the time to claim her right.
Maisy is sunshine incarnate and a truly good person - she's also an ex art teacher and a bit of a mess, frankly. What she is NOT is ready to have the fate of the world on her shoulders.
I liked the grumpy/sunshine dynamic in this book and the world building, while complex at times, was pretty good. I found the attraction between the two characters entirely believable but the scenes when they get together kind of seemed a little rushed to me.
There's a lot of action going on, and the mystery of how Maisy came to be the keeper as well as the supernatural elements were interesting and kept me reading.
This book is a solid 3.5 from me, rounded up to 4, but I am looking forward to finding out more about Liss, Gideon and Zavier in Hell of an Angel.
This paranormal romance had all the goods-grumpy half-angels, an overly optimistic human, demons, and the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Maisy is an unlikely heroine, an out of work art teacher inherits a key & when a handsome stranger knocks on her door, she is brought into a world she never dreamed existed. With Rhys as her bodyguard, she has to find the key that she gave away & time is ticking. Maisy needs to get the key back & pass the ultimate test to complete the transition to Gate Keeper.
I enjoyed the evolution of the relationship between Rhys & Maisy. The ending was predictable, but in the hallmark movie way. An overall well developed plot & a FMC that had much more to offer than her introduction suggested.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Did not finish this book. I liked the concept, but struggled with connected to the characters and staying interested in the story. I am rating this book a 3. I don't think it would be fair to go lower since I did not finish reading the book.
Definitely an interesting idea, not too sure I like where it went though. Don’t think the story had enough depth for what it was meant to be!
A fun and entertaining romance with a unique plot. I wasn’t expecting to like it very much but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
Many thanks to Entangled Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
DNF after about 25% Sorry I just couldn't get into this story. *I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Having read other books by Christi Barth, this was pretty different from her other series. Well I'm hoping this will be a series because there are a couple more angels who need to find love. :) I liked this book and am invested as to what will happen next but I didn't love it. It actually took me awhile to pick it back up. I'm not sure what was missing...maybe that the MC Rhys just didn't do it for me. I just couldn't connect with him. I did like Maisy. She had spunk and was funny and a little endearing getting thrown into the role she was put in but I didn't feel the spark between her and Rhys. All that being said I would like to see where the story goes from here.
Art teacher Maisy and Nephilim Rhys Boyce will work together to discover why Maisy was thrown into a world full of angels, demons, witches, and an ability to save the world.
When Maisy discovers she's inherited a key from a dead uncle she's never met, things suddenly get a bit wierd. Flying, potions, sensory overload, and a connection that is strong and powerful. If these two can unlock the mystery behind her inheritance and save the world they might find a love that will last a lifetime ;)
I was enchanted with the connection between Rhys and Maisy, how it evolved and the chemistry between them. It's steamy, exciting, and I'm hoping that we'll see more installments.
I will say I liked it but didn't love it. Rhys (best name ever am I right) just wasn't book boyfriend goals for me. He had so pretty unlikeable characteristics and said some things I wasn't a huge fan of. He also in my eyes struggled to redeem himself. The overall story was good. I really want more light fantasy (like built in this world) romance novels. I would probably recommend this to light fantasy readers.
