I really wanted to give this book a try, but the pacing was really slow and the characters were kind of annoying. Then they're kinda mean to each other, then they're kissing each other, then they act like nothing happened and then they kiss again. I'm usually for this kind of stuff in books but for some reason I couldn't enjoy Imperfect Angel. I decided to stop reading this book around 35% in the book.

Truly a fun and save the world type of story. Maisy a ex-teacher who is barely making it and living in a dump winds up being the guardian of a Key that keeps demons in hell, but oops, since no one told her about what to do with the Key she gives it away and she has 14 days to get it back or else. And that's when a handsome Nephilim named Rhys steps into her life and tries to teach and retrieve the key at the same time, and all I can say is, go girl and their in trouble. There are all types of interesting characters that will keep the two on their toes and make the hunt for the key dangerous (Angels, Demons, Gods and witches) and there are really good friends ( Liss, Gideon and Zavier) that will help the two on their quest and bring them back from hell, but you never know who will be right around the corner to either help or hinder them.

The storyline remind me of stories written by Darynda Jones, Kresley Cole or Gena Showalter, with their witty and snarky characters that will do anything to do the right thing and with a handsome side kick to help save the day.

I want to thank Entangled Publishing, LLC, Entangled: Amara and NetGalley for the advance copy of this book.

This book is perfect for spooky season! As soon as I started it, I was unable to put it down. The story between Maisy and Rhys gives off a sort of rom-com-y feel but has all the aspects of a witchy book that I was hoping for when I started it. Maisy is the new keeper of the key and Rhys is a half angel who is desperate to show her that his world actually exists. Despite being a half angel, he displays all this humanity that instantly made me really like him as a character whereas Maisy is hard to convince but even she comes around to the idea of it. The entirety of the book, following around these characters as the world is literally ending, I couldn't help but smile as I fell in love with them and the adventure they were on. A spooky season must read!

Nothing kicks off spooky season like a trip to the gates of hell. Mystery, fun, and mayhem is the best way to describe Imperfect Angel by Christi Barth. What does Maisie Norgate do when she learns she's the new gatekeeper? Well, trying to stay alive is always nice but with Rhys... heaven and hell never looked so good.

I really enjoyed this and I can't wait for more!

I really liked Christi's Aisle Bound romances - mostly because I'm a Chicago girl which is where all the books in that series are based. So I was excited to try out a paranormal romance from her but it wasn't what I was hoping for.

I didn't hate it but it was kind of boring in some parts and I skipped over a lot of chapters just to get through it. I didn't real feel like there was any chemistry between her and Rhys so their interactions were kind of ho-hum. They kiss but never really have any good banter. He's just kind of a jerk and she's a doormat until finally he becomes less jerky towards the end.

It was a good premise that I was excited about getting into but it never really took off from there.

Highly recommended to fans of paranormal rom-coms, especially heavy with wit and sarcasm. This is a light and fluffy quick read.

This book was supposed to be a fun cozy paranormal romance based on the premise, however, I didn't feel that while reading. It just bored me and the world isn't interesting enough for me to be invested and enjoy the reading experience. For a romance, this also lacked romantic tension and chemistry between our hero and heroine.

The premise was intriguing and I hadn’t read any fantasy about angels before so I was curious. On top of that a grumpy angel sounded like fun. But I’m not sure this book was for me.

We follow Maisy, a waitress and an artist as she finds out, that she just received a peculiar inheritance. An uncle she never knew she had, had left her a large, antique-style key without a word of explanation. She has no idea what does the key open and what to do with it. Conveniently a locksmith who would love to have it approaches her. So Maisy gives the key away…

As it turns out the locksmith is a demon and the key opens the Hell’s worst prison’s gates. So to avoid Hell literally breaking loose she needs to get the key back stat and assume her role as its Keeper.

The task seems impossible but she has a grumpy and devastatingly handsome half angel at her side. His job is to support her mission and keep her safe.

I had a lot of trouble following what was going on between these two. In one moment they annoy each other to no end only to start kissing five minutes later. Wha- what? Did I miss something? Why are you kissing her dude? (And more importantly, why is she kissing you back?!)

But then after the kiss they just go about their business as if nothing happened. Until they unexpectedly kiss again and AGAIN don’t acknowledge it at all. I need my lovers to talk and bond, work through their relationship. Unfortunately there was none of that here.

On top of that Rhys was such a rude, haughty know-it-all I really could not connect with him.

”Habit had him opening his mouth to yell. To snap that the shitstorm that had been unleashed was entirely her fault.”
I’m sorry, I can’t love a hero who has such habits…

He improved a little as the story progressed but the damage was done.

Maisy was a little better than Rhys, but for a human she was just too good to be true. It was probably the point, as the Keeper should be good and worthy, but I didn’t find it credible.

What I did like about this story was that despite being based on Christian beliefs it mentioned beings from other cultures and religions too. I would have loved for the author to explore that part more; it would have enriched the story and made it more inclusive. It was also a badass move to imply that some angels were gay. Not sure the Pope would approve, but I surely do!

This is such a cute fantasy/paranormal romance. If you are looking for a quick read or just dipping your toes into the Angels, Demons, Hell and Heaven this is the book for you!

As someone who hasn't read fantasy in many years this was such a great book to get back into it!

Maisy and Rhys are great main characters and their personalities really make you laugh out loud at times.

The cover fits the story perfectly, again this is a great fast read for anyone who loves comedy mixed into their romance.

This was a very cute and quick read for me. This is what I would call a palate cleanser for in between my heavier reads. If you're looking for a light read then this is perfect. It had funny and quirky moments and it definitely lightened my mood. Not a book for me personally to rave about, HOWEVER, it's worth a read especially if paranormal romcoms are your go to.

“What’s the dress code for visiting Hell?”

I absolutely loved it !!!
A fantasy romance story between a simple human woman, sweet, kind and selfless, who faced real tragedy in her life, and a Nephilim, an half Angel, a bit grumpy, stubborn and I-know-all who cannot resist her !!
In a quest for finding the Key to Heaven, fighting against demons, these two people will find something more … a partner !!!
This book was just so good!!
If I wasn’t shipping over the main couple, I was laughing so hard because of the constant banter and discussion they both had.
It was a fun book as much as it was a fantasy one and I absolutely loved how family is described in here.
The concept of love in its many forms is what keeps the world going and I love how it was handled here !!!
Rhys is such a great love interest and Maisy is such a badass main character !!! She is everything you want to be inspired by: selfless, witty, a little spitfire, kind, gentle but sassy and so so sweet !!!
I loved her !!!
I cannot wait for the book to be out !!!

⚜️ Book Title - Imperfect Angel
⚜️ Author - Christi Barth
⚜️ Rating - ⭐️⭐️
⚜️ Some Genre/Themes/Tropes: Adult Fiction, Romance and Fantasy

I received an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book via NetGalley. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This is my honest review.

I wanted to enjoy this book…. Angels, demons and the possible end of the world. But unfortunately it fell flat.

It was a slow start and I found it difficult to keep reading, after a quarter of the way through the action did begin to pick up.

As for the characters, they were not overly complex, very one dimentional and both quite similar.

If you like something light hearted, a good laugh and a bit of action, it hits the mark.

I want to say thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

This is such a cute and especially different paranormal romance. Not everything was very surprising, that said I did find the story very refreshing since the concept of a (gate) keeper is one I haven’t read about before. Maisy was a great fmc, she was strong, had humor and a bit of an attitude whilst still being the good girl. Rhys was a very fun mmc, broody but eventually also supportive. I sometimes had a difficult time differentiating the characters. I loved the spiciness of the spicy moments. It definitely packs some heat. The pacing could have been better at times, however, there is a great amount of action in the book. I loved all the different paranormal beings. The Witches for example were great and I really liked the side characters as well. I wished I have gotten to know them better though, however, they definitely piqued my interest for sure. It’s a fun and spicy paranormal romance you will want to read.

Imperfect Angel by Christi Barth follows the main character Maisy Norgate as her whole life changes after finding out that she has a huge role to play in saving the entire world from the worst of Hell's prisoners. When a lawyer contacts Maisy to tell her that a mysterious, unknown uncle has mentioned her in his will, Maisy's life turns completely upside down. She suddenly encounters a group of mystifying, impossibly attractive Nephilim men, demon attacks and a whole load of death-defying incidents. Through her journey to save the human world from possible destruction, Maisy learns more about herself and is forced to explore her unwanted attraction to the brooding half-man, half-angel. Rhys.

This book was marketed as a Romance which I thought was perhaps a little misleading. I would say this book was predominantly a Fantasy novel with a fantastic underlying Romance plotline. The first half of this book is mainly focused on developing the details of the fantasy world and providing the readers with an insight into the hidden world of demons, Nephilim, witches and other creatures. I do think that the fantasy element of this was good and that the plot line that followed Maisy in her transition to become the Keeper was interesting and well-developed. Overall, I was super invested in the plot and was racing through this book wanting to find out what was going to happen next yet it always kept me on my toes.

The romance element of this book was okay, yet I found it hard to really get behind Maisy and Rhys' relationship as I felt that, due to romance only really kicking in at the halfway mark, it ended up feeling a little rushed. I did enjoy all the smutty scenes and did actually like the characters together, I just wished I had been able to see their relationship fully deepen over a longer period of time. I can't fault this too highly though, as I did enjoy the light-heartedness that these romance scenes added to the otherwise serious plotline.

Overall, I think that this book was well written, had an interesting fantasy plot line as well as intriguing characters that were likeable and bounced off one another really well, resulting in the author delivering brilliant humour throughout. This was an enjoyable read that I would recommend to anyone looking for a fun fantasy novel that provides a good underlying haters-to-lovers romance story. Definitely worth the read!

4 out of 5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Christ Barth and Entangled Publishing, LLC for allowing me to read the ARC of the book.

A Sunny and warm five-star read. This one will make you smile; it will also make you laugh and make you wonder. It’s a little slow to get going, but once it does, its pure gold, I love the boys, and their differences, but it’s their loyalty that makes them special. Maisy is just sunshine in human form, she is naïve, but adorable, and made me feel all warm and fuzzy. There is something special about this one, and I can only hope we get to hear more from these half angels.

This was definitely a fun read! Steamy and swoon-worthy and silly at times! The humor in this book is definitely what kept me reading. I really enjoyed how fun the characters seemed to be having with one another despite the literal doom that would be lurking around every corner. I will say that despite this, there were times during the back half of the book that I did find myself starting to get bored with the various encounters just because it did start to seem repetitive at times. I definitely enjoyed it though, and am hoping we get some books centered around our other angel boys.

Big thanks to Net Galley and Entangled Publishing, LLC for providing me with an electronic ARC in exchange for an honest review!

When Maisy receives an inheritance from an uncle she never knew existed, she's kind of nonplussed. An ornate, old-fashioned key? It's not long before she finds out that the key will add a whole new dimension to her life. Literally. If she survives that long.

This is, basically, a paranormal romantic comedy, and it delivers on all three categories. Maisy is perennial sunshine whose optimism is challenged by her unexpected new role, not to mention the lecturing, over-protective (and oh, yes, utterly gorgeous) Nephilim she's been landed with. Rhys, meanwhile, is unusually out of his depth, trying to protect an infuriating, determined woman and fighting unwanted feelings of attraction. The plot rolls along nicely, driven by a definite timeline, and the supporting characters (both human and... not) add plenty of depth and a few laughs. If this is the first in a series, and it seems like that might be the plan as a few loose ends were left, I will happily read the next one.

DNFing at 24%.

This is a hot mess. I understand what the author is going for - a paranormal romance - but there's just too much thrown in all at once. Too many info dumps, not enough real character work. The dialogue is clunky, and doesn't feel like how someone would really speak. I love a paranormal romance, but most of the time they need to start off simply. This one just...jumps right in without bothering to slow down for ANY thing. Not a good way to make me feel anything about your characters.

Not to mention the hero of the story sounds like a conceited jerk for all of the 24% of the book that I've read.

I'm passing on this one. Thank you for the opportunity to read it, though.

4.5 Stars!

Maisy Norgate’s position as an art teacher was eliminated so she’s working at the local coffee shop. She never expected to receive a bequest from an uncle she never knew existed. Once she is given an intricately designed key, she is even more confused about the motives behind it.

Nephilim Rhys Boyce, along with his Nephilim best friends Gideon and Zavier, is sent to protect the new Keeper of the Key to the gates of Hell. He’s even more confused when she has no idea of her new position and has given the key away. Maisy quickly gets a reality check when she and her friend are attacked by a demon. Rhys comes to help save the day and is pleasantly surprised by the friends reaction to the terrifying creature. Once Maisy comes around to the idea of being the new Keeper of the Key, it becomes a race to find the key before her two week transition period ends. If she doesn’t have the key back by then, things will get complicated.

This is the first book I’ve read by Christi Barth. The world she’s built around Maisy and Rhys is fantastic. While on an adrenaline fueled race to find the key, battling demons, and passing tests, Rhys can’t help but fall for the optimistic ray of sunshine that is Maisy. I love how Barth takes the half-human/half-angel characters and shows them as not fully good or bad. My previous notions about Nephilim are history. I only want to read about them if they are like this trio of sexier than Hell best friends.

This book is one rush after another. Whether Rhys and Maisy are delving into the spicy side of life or battling demons, the story is always interesting. I would love to read more about this world in the future and learn what else is in store for these dynamic characters.

I received Imperfect Angel for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
