I expected a fun ending to the Sunshine Vicram series, and Ms. Jones delivered! Like the first two books in the series, A Hard Day for a Hangover is laugh-out-loud funny. Ms. Jones wraps the storylines and character arcs up nicely in this third installment.
Del Sol is full of interesting characters - my favorite is the relationship between Sunshine and her daughter Auri. They have a playful, loving dynamic that really works well together.
I would recommend if you haven't read the first to in the series to read them before this third (and I think final?) book. The characters and storylines build throughout the series, and it is best to start at the beginning.
Another solid addition to the Sunshine Vicram series, which I find to be a cross between Stephanie Plum and Veronica Mars.Looking forward to future adventures and unraveling mysteries!
This book was everything I was looking for in the final book of this mystery series! It had the multiple police mysteries that all tied together. I loved all of the wonderful characters. This book was very well written and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I loved every second. I’m sad this is the end of the series! The author did a fantastic job of tying up the ending very nicely. If you are looking for a hilarious and fun mystery series with a wee bit of romance mixed in there look no further. Huge huge thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this wonderful book!
I binge read the three books in this series and absolutely love them! Sunshine and Levi are fated and so are Auri and Cruz. This novel is the perfect combination of mystery thriller and romantic comedy. I could definitely see it as a movie. The supporting cast members are so endearing and I like them more with each book. I can't say enough good things about this series, you just have to read it!
Thank you to Netgalley, St. Martins Press, and Darynda Jones for a copy of A Hard Day for a Hangover in exchange for an honest review. I really liked this one!! I found myself constantly rooting for all the likable characters throughout the entire story. I didnt realize that this one was the last in the series, but I still think it read as a standalone. Due to my love for this story, I cant wait to go back and read the first two in Sunshines series! This one is perfect for any mystery lover and it gave me cozy vibes but the story went deeper then most cozies do (at least in my opinion). This one is out on 12.6.22 and would make the perfect Christmas gift for any mystery lover in your life. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 for GR!
This was such a fun book! It has everything: Suspense, domestic drama, teen drama, romance, mystery, violence…what more could you want? It’s all done with a cheerful voice that really makes this a unique read. This is my first book by the author, but it will not be the last. There are so many lovable characters, it was easy to get invested. I am so glad I got to read this! Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Another great book from Darynda. I really hope she writes another in this series. This book made me laugh out loud several time especially when Aura was describing books she found of her grandmother and it was from Darynda other series.
What a book to jump into a series on. This book was wild from start to finish. Through no fault of the author I definitely feel like I didn't get as much of the story since I joined the series on the last book, but I can tell you the mystery was engaging and interesting and the characters, particularly the main character: Sheriff Sunshine Vicram, were intersting and didn't feel tropey like some mysteries do.
Synopsis:
Some people greet the day with open arms. Sheriff Sunshine Vicram would rather give it a hearty shove and get back into bed, because there’s just too much going on right now. There’s a series of women going missing, and Sunny feels powerless to stop it. There’s her persistent and awesomely-rebellious daughter Auri, who’s out to singlehandedly become Del Sol’s youngest and fiercest investigator. And then there’s drama with Levi Ravinder—the guy she’s loved and lusted after for years. The guy who might just be her one and only. The guy who comes from a family of disingenuous vipers looking to oust him—and Sunshine—for good.
Darynda Jones' latest Sunshine Vicram installment is another fun, raucous ride. The plot of A Hard Day For a Hangover is solid, with some twists and turns, but the ending isn't surprising. As with the previous two books in the series, there is loads of sexual tension between Sunshine and Levi (and some other characters). In this volume, the steam level rises, and at times it feels more romance than mystery (so the best-matched reader will like romances as much as mysteries). Also, in this book, Auri, Sun's daughter, continues her escapades to the point where I sometimes felt like she was channeling Buffy the Vampire Slayer without the supernatural element (and there is a reference to this series in the Hangover).
A Hard Day For a Hangover is a good pick for you if you enjoy a little off-beat, sarcastic humor, precocious teens getting unrealistically involved in criminal investigations, and some steamy romance. If you are looking for a lite mystery that will make you laugh, or if you are a Janet Evanovich fan looking for a new series, this may be your new fave. Read the books in order, or you'll get frustrated coming up to speed.
I'm already looking forward to the next installment.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an ebook ARC in return for an honest review.
I LOVED this book! Actually I have loved the whole series but this last one was so so good. The audiobooks are particularly fantastic! Even though this one has its own mystery for sheriff Vicram to solve, it also neatly wrapped up anything from the series that was left hanging. I cant say enough about my love for all the characters. It you want a fun, witty, family with tons of banter and a very sexy hero, who may or may not be on the wrong side of the law, this is for you!
My kind of mystery! 4.5.
I didn’t know this was book three of the Sunshine Vicram series, but I didn’t feel like I needed a backstory to love everything about this book!!! Sun and Auri were so likeable, their interactions were some of my favorite parts of the book. It was lighthearted and witty and kept you entertained throughout the story. I felt the mystery part of it was so appropriately tied in with the lifestyles of the main characters.
I definitely want to go back and read books one and two, but if you are like me and happen to pick this one out not knowing it was a series, you’ll still enjoy it!
I switched between physical book, audiobook, and e book thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. Thanks so much for the ARC.
I’m a big Sunshine fan but a bigger Charley Davidson fan and was so excited for the shout out in this book. IYKYK!! Not every book in a series is going to be amazing and I’m afraid this is the one in this series that didn’t quite work.
A series of young women have been assaulted and left for death, one current and some previously that were never mentioned by law enforcement. Sunshine is trying her best to deal with these cases, Levi Ravinder. The secret society she’s a party of and her teenage daughter Auri. Auri, however takes it upon herself to try and solve these crimes until she becomes a target.
I felt the pacing was off for this whole book. I don’t want to ruin any major plot points but one was tied u fairly quickly and easily. For me the whole ending was ALOT! It seemed a little violent and unnecessarily so. I still enjoyed reading it and will continue to read all the rest that follows. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC copy of the book for an honest review
Any Darynda Jones book is the ideal mystery for me. The blend of humor, romance and excellent mystery thrills and suspence always keep me entertained and guessing until the very end!
I just wanna start out by saying that I have been a huge fan of Ms. Jones since the Charley Davidson series was released back in 2011. I have fallen in love with her latest community of oddball characters in the Sunshine Vicram series. Each book builds upon the previous. The friendship between the community is fun and the sarcastic banter between all of them kept me laughing. It’s like watching my family in action. Great fun! I’m hoping she will continue with this small community of young and old characters!
Such a fan of this series, if this is the last book I will miss Sunny and her sassy vibe and the humorous tone in this series. I have been recommending this series for the past year to my mystery book club and we all enjoyed the first two books. This is a highly satisfying mystery once again but I am really here for the bigger context of the characters, their lives and the humor and relationship that brings these books to life. There are lots of mysteries series out there but this one has always stood out for the strong female character, the vibrant secondary characters, and the effective blending of mystery/suspense, humor, and edginess.
I appreciate St Martin's for giving me the chance to enjoy this series once more, thank you for the ebook copy and for celebrating a great female character.
A Hard Day for a Hangover is the third book in the Sunshine Vicram series. After some life-changing revelations discovered in the second book of the series, Sunshine Vicram continues to navigate her complicated family life while fighting crime as the Sheriff in her small town. Some girls have gone missing and Sunshine must lead her department in catching the assailant before anymore girls fall victim. Her relationship with Levi Ravinder, of the infamous and dangerous Ravinder family, shifts into something she always wanted, but his family doesn't make life easy for them.
I really enjoyed this continuation of Sunshine's story! The first book set the stage for all of the mystery surrounding Sunshine's disappearance when she was a teenager. The second book gives you most of the answers that you were looking for. This book covers the aftermath of the characters discovering those answers and how it affected their relationship dynamics. I needed an HEA for Sunshine and Levi and although they had to jump through a lot of hoops (and members of their family had to escape near death experiences), I love how their story ended up.
My favorite thing about this series is the quirky and witty dialogue. Every single character (including the supporting characters) in this book had something clever to say that tracked with who they were. They were all a little on the weird side and I loved that they embraced each others' weirdness. The quirkiness of the characters brought levity to a story that would otherwise be very dark and heartbreaking.
If you enjoy romantic mysteries, you need to pick up this series!
Steam level: 🔥🔥¾
⚠️: assault, robbery, kidnapping, stabbing, suicidal thoughts, rape, gun violence
This was probably a 3.5 star book for me. I found the plot to be thin and Auri grated on me this book. ARC provided by the publisher.
A Hard Day for a Hangover A Novel by Darynda Jones, narrated by Lorelei King is the third in the Sunshine Vicram series and pure lightning in a book! With her daughter Auri barely recovered from her recent near death experience, Del Sol’s Sheriff Sunshine Vicram just wants her daughter to stay safe and for things to settle down. Of course, Levi Ravinder disappearance is weighing on her. And she’s not sure if it’s because she told him that Auri is his daughter or because his Uncle Clay wants to kill him. When Auri discovers a link between an unidentified young woman who had been found near death in the canyon after being assaulted and other missing young women, she follows her mother’s lead and can’t help but investigate. But will Auri be the next victim?
This book is a rollercoaster ride that will make you laugh out loud, fill you warm fuzzies, or stop your heart with the suspense. It was pure exhilaration, one minute I was laughing, the next I was either catching my breath or experiencing the love between Sunshine, her family and friends. I love the quirky characters, the snark and the zany antics of the Dangerous Daughters and Sinister Sons. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy and all opinions are my own.) So many of the open questions from previous books were answered in this installment. Please don’t let this be the last book in this series!
A great book and series. Hard to put this one down, but highly recommend and just to let you know to read the others first. You will not be lost, but it makes the reading much more interesting. Love the writing and banter.
A fun light hearted thriller - yes, that’s what I said - about the escapades of Sunshine Vicram. A small town sheriff that has fallen for the town bad boy…. It’s a hoot of a story and is very reminiscent of Janet Evanovich in terms of writing style. This one has humor, thrills, mystery, secret societies, danger, and a whole lot of fun wrapped into the third installment of the series. Grateful to NetGalley for the early read.
