Darynda Jones is one of my favourite authors: quirky, sarcastic and funny. A Hard Day for a Hangover is the third and final book in the Sunshine Vicram series and the best yet. This book has all the action, eccentric characters, snappy banter and has a serial killer thrown in for fun.
An unidentified young woman is found beaten and tossed over a guard rail and left for bed in a canyon in Del Sol and is luckily found by a hunter in time to save her. As Sunshine begins working the case, similar cold cases come up leading her to believe there is a serial killer in her town. Sunshine and her BFF and deputy Quincy investigate the town's secrets and secret societies to identify the killer before he can kill again.
As always, there is Sunshine's daughter Auri working as an amateur investigator behind her mother's back, her high school crush and love interest Levi and his family of misfits, the US Marshall who keeps crossing paths with Sunshine to add to the bedlam.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and wish there was a follow up. I recommend this series to anyone interested in reading something that has its own unique style. Thank you to the publisher, NetGalley and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The level of excitement I got when NetGalley gave me this book as an ARC is unmatched. First let me say, I am a HUGE D. Jones fan. I've read everything up to date and am hoping to snag her newest Betwixt & Between addition :hint hint NetGalley::
This is book 3 of Sheriff Sunshine Vicram's series and her escapades continue with a discovery of a incapacitated girl found thrown over a cliff. Luckily, the Del sol police force are able to rush her to the hospital but, they are still on the hunt for the perp. After that, Sun gets 2 other cases thrown at her and too smart for her own good daughter, Auri, insists (does it without her approval) on helping her investigate. The Levi and Sunshine saga gets even hotter and finally comes to a head. FINALLYYYYY!
As usual, Jones does a great job of keeping one major storyline and introducing 3-4 other smaller ones to keep the reader engaged AND chuckling throughout the story. I can't say enough good things about Darynda Jones and her work. She combines quick-witted writing along + light hearted mystery + serious steam makes me one loyal reader. I'm ready and waiting for the next one! This is a solid 3.5 for me!

Ah yes, how shall I start this ode to the newest Sunshine Vicram book, except it was absolutely *amazing.* Please just inject this series into my veins. I loved the audiobooks of the first two entries in the series, and the cliffhanger at the end of book 2 just about killed me, so when I saw the ebook for #3 on NetGalley, I jumped at the opportunity, and was NOT disappointed.

However, for the sake of the uninitiated (please start with the first audiobook and then we can all squeal together), I will try to keep my gushing spoiler free.

All of the elements we love from the first two books are here and in force: the witty banter is fun and a joy to read, Del Sol is as quirky and weird as ever, the muffins are back, The Dangerous Daughters and Sinister Suns are at play, the stakes are high, there’s a mystery to solve, and Levi plays his biggest part to date.

There were a lot of plot lines from the first two books (specifically regarding Levi & Sunshine) that came to a really satisfying end here. However, I am a little torn, because I’m seeing that this is supposed to be the end of the trilogy, and I feel like there is so many more questions/loose ends to tie up. So basically, if this WAS the end of the series, I think I would feel just a tiny bit disappointed because I’m still hoping to see a little more of Auri & Cruz, Hailey & Quincy, and the Dangerous Daughters.

But even if this is the last one, honestly, I can’t even hate, because I do feel like this *could* be the end of Levi & Sunshine’s story and it totally left me with such a gooey, satisfied feeling, I am TOTALLY okay with it.

Let’s just say, regardless of what Darynda Jones writes next, be it Sunshine or something else, I will *definitely* be reading it. Five wholeheartedly glowing stars.

Thanks so much to NetGalley for the free ARC!

A Hard Day for a Hangover is the thrilling conclusion to the Sunshine Vicram trilogy and was the best yet of the series. Ms. Jones has once again added humor, romance, mystery, suspense and sarcastic wit into her novel and created characters that makes it difficult to say goodbye to them. Everyone should have a bestie like Quincy, an incorrigible daughter like Auri and an oh so sexy man in her life like Levi.

The book contains several conundrums for Sunshine to solve such as who stabbed the local flasher with a knitting needle, is there a serial killer on the loose and what can be done about the crazy Ravinder clan. Loved the story, loved the inhabitants of Del Sol and I'm looking forward to more books written by this talented author.

This is a voluntary review of an ARC provided by NetGalley.

I love these Sunshine books so much! I can’t tell you how I look forward to the next one. I love this cast of characters so much … each one makes me smile; well … almost all of them makes me smile! And I want them all to have their happy ending. I wonder when/IF poor Sunshine and lovely Del Sol will have a day where there are no catastrophes. But, what better crew to save the day! Love where Darynda is taking the series … if you haven’t read this series yet … treat yourself to an adventure with Sunshine! Keep them coming Darynda!!

I’m so sad this trilogy is over! I didn’t realize it was going to only be a trilogy until recently and I was heartbroken to find out I had only one book left with these characters. But what a book it was!! The series was wrapped up beautifully, if a little fast paced. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an eARC of this book.

I received a ARC from St. Martin's Press through NetGalley, for which I thank them, all opinions are mine. I've enjoyed this series, and for the fullness of it you should read them in order. Guessing this is the final book, but would love to see it continue with other characters. This answers most every question you could have, while having murder and unidentified young women being brutalized and dumped off a ravine to add to the mix for Sheriff Vicram to deal with. This has more serious victims and daughter Auri trying to help identify the last to help her mother solve these cases. Of course there is the usual snarkiness and humor from Ms Jones, and she ties everything up well if this is the last book. Enjoyable, look forward to the next book.

After the cliffhanger of the previous novel, this one picked right up with dead bodies, mysterious stalkers and all the snark you could want from Sunshine and her daughter Auri. When a body is discovered in the woods, both Vicrams start looking for the identity of the victim, while the reader watches for Levi's reaction to the news dropped at the end of Good Day for Chardonnay. This was another delightful mystery by Darynda Jones - I especially like the signs around town at the beginning of every chapter and the easter eggs (did you find the reference to Jones' other series) throughout the novel.

I can't wait for the next book.

I love Darynda Jones' writing and I love the characters and storyline in the Sunshine Vicram series. Somehow I hadn't realized that this was the ending of a trilogy and when I did, I couldn't imagine how it would all be wrapped up. Silly me, because Darynda (I feel like we could be on a first name basis) not only tied up storylines but filled the last book with new mysteries and adventure.

As with the other 2 books in the series, our main characters are Sunshine, her daughter Auri, and love interest Levi. Throw in Sunshine's parents and deputies, Auri's teen circle, Levi's family, and a quirky town, and you have an entertaining ride. The first book was about Sunshine coming back to town. The second was Sunny and Levi's story, filling in the blanks. With the third, Sunny's daughter (Auri) plays a major role and family ties and relationship are the webbing between all of the storylines, including the things you do to protect your family... and family is a tangled web.

I love the dialogue and and relationships. The relationship between Sunshine and Auri is parenting goals. I'd love for my kids to have as many people love them as Auri has. Auri comes front and center and shows the foolishness of teenagers, the strength of convictions, and how they carry forward how they're raised. There are continuing stories of those that protect the town, the eccentric townspeople who are looking for excitement, and the corruption and legal twists of Levi's family. There's new stories of a unidentified woman found, figuring out who she is and whether there's a pattern of other missing girls. (Spoiler: there is)

Definitely needs to be read in order, so if you have just spotted this one, go back and start with A Bad Day for Sunshine, settle in and enjoy yourself.

How can I say goodbye to this series already?! I may be in the minority but I was introduced to Darynda jones through this series and I have fallen in love. It's such a good writing style and I wish this series wasn't ending because I love these characters so much. It is a good ending to the series that closes a storyline that threaded through the three books and also introduced a new mystery Sheriff Sunshine had to solve. I do think we could continue to see more of the day to day mysteries that Del Sol natives definitely have. This has a more serious incident that happens at the end of the novel that kept me on the edge of my seat. The story grips you and doesn't let you go until you reach it's conclusion. I'm not giving too much away but this was another Darynda Jones fun, wacky mystery thriller.

One star deducted for overuse of “bestie” and “BFF” by a grown woman.

Kidding aside, some of the dialogue and inner monologues do get a little cheesy; the back and forth banter a little over the top. But it kind of reminds me of Gilmore Girls. In fact, it kind of feels like if Gilmore Girls had a serious crime problem.

Despite all that, I do enjoy these books. They’re fun and campy and nicely paced. I like the characters and the quirkiness. And the mysteries hold up.

It’s a series I’ll keep coming back to.

*Received a copy for review.*.
I love this series so much. The banter and the quick wit is everywhere. It’s not just with the man character. I love how much these people love one another.
I’m also so glad that the slow burn finally blazes up. Sunshine and Levi just walk right into the whole thing. Once they commit it’s all in.
The multiple storylines dovetail together so well. I figured out part of the mystery when the villain stepped into the page. However, I didn’t have all the pieces. There are some great small twists that kept me in the edge of my seat.
I can’t help but hope there are more books with these characters. I know it’s been touted as a trilogy but the focus can shift to
Another character.
This book is compulsively readable and keeps you interested until the final sentence.

Please don’t tell me it’s over. It can’t be over. There are so many ways the series could go on! Especially when it comes to the beautiful Auri. As always, Darynda Jones delivers an incredibly thoughtful, funny, suspenseful read. Her ability to create a colorful grouping of people all mixed together makes Jones a force in the genre. I’m going to miss Sunshine Vicram, but the love between her and Levi will have me blushing every time I think about, A Hard Day For A Hangover. I’ve said this before and I’ll repeat it, reading books by Darynda Jones is like coming home. I know I’m gonna get love, laughter, sweetness, and suspense, as well as good, kind people in her characters. I want movies, I want TV shows, I want all the things!! Thank you so much for another amazing series, Mrs. Jones.

This was an engaging, worthwhile read…. Even though it makes me miss Charlie Davidson even more, I’m afraid. If we have to live in a world without Charlie, can we at least turn this series heroine into a knock-off?? Please 🙏🏼
Thanks for the ARC!

This third book of the series is really good. A Hard Day for a Handover is as funny and mysterious as the other two books. Loved reading every minute!!
The story time is awesome as always

Hard Days are par for the course in Sheriff Sunshine Vicram's life. Just a week from the previous emergency, Sun is now dealing with a Jane Doe who was found near the same place other women have gone missing. Then there's her inquisitive daughter, Auri, who will make a great investigator in her own right someday if she can keep herself from running headfirst into trouble long enough to realize that dream. Lastly, but definitely not least, is Levi Ravinder, the long-time holder of Sunshine's heart. Levi and Sunshine have never seemed to be able to get on the same page, especially with what happened in Sunshine's past. But the past is becoming clearer for Sunshine, unearthing memories she thought lost forever. With that, a new understanding of the gruff favored son of Del Sol. Unfortunately, unless Sun can keep Levi's conniving uncle from murdering him for the family business, they'll never get a chance to find out if things would work between them.

I look forward to each and every one of Darynda Jones's books. I don't even need to read the back cover to know I'm going to pick this one up, it's just a given.

So I was slightly surprised that A Hard Day for a Hangover answers pretty much every outstanding story thread that has been built up throughout these three books.

We pick up the story about a week after events from A Good Day for Chardonnay. Darynda Jones did an exceptional job at bringing readers up to speed about where things left off. I honestly felt like no time had passed between when I read the second book and picking up the third (although there is about a year and a half gap between).

Like every book Darynda Jones writes, there's a lot going on. Sunshine has what seems like a million different cases to solve on any given day. This time, however, I felt like everything flowed together very easily. Even though the stakes were high and there were enough moments to get the adrenaline pumping, I felt the winding down of the narrative, the tying up of loose ends. I wasn't surprised by much. More, I was pulled into seeing where Darynda Jones would take Sun, Auri, Levi, and everyone else from Del Sol.

Of course for this romance lover, the closure we get between Levi and Sunshine is a long-time coming. I liked that it's been drawn out, but I also appreciate forward steps being taken. Darynda Jones knows when it's time to make strides in her characters' relationships.

While Hard Day definitely closes one chapter for Sunshine Vicram, I'm hoping this won't be the last we see of her or Del Sol. I even had the thought while reading this one that I would absolutely love a prequel story about the older generator of Del Sol citizens. Darynda Jones definitely gives readers what we've been clamoring for since the first book. I remember at first that Jones's Charley Davidson series was only supposed to be a trilogy and that ended up going way beyond that. I'm hoping we get similar with Sunshine. There's always some mystery that needs solving.

All of Darynda Jones' books and short stories are packed with quick wit and snappy comebacks, and A Hard Day for a Hangover was no different. It wasn't my favorite in the series, and I'm disappointed that it's the last book with these characters, but it was a really fun read, and readers learn why the old sheriff has been so keen to get the job back--even if they don't learn how Sunshine's parents got her elected.

A great conclusion to the Sunshine Vicram trilogy I am so sad it is over however it was all wrapped up rather well. If you haven't started this series, you've got time to catch up before A Hard Day for a Hangover is released in December. I can't wait to see what Darynda Jones does next, I know it will be great like the rest of her books!

Darynda Jones’s penchant for intelligent, sassy characters and witty dialogue continues to shine through her Sunshine Vicram series.

Another day in Del Sol, AZ is just another day full of mystery, dark humor, violence, and ultimate happy endings for Vicram, her family, and crew. Between a bizarre knitting needle stabbing, a missing teen, and a break-in, Sunshine has her hands full to overflowing.

Overall I absolutely enjoyed the book, although everything Jones threw together in this one book started to feel like a bit much after awhile. Nevertheless, should she decide to write more Sunshine Vicram books, I’ll definitely be coming back for more!

My ONE complaint, and reason for deducting a star: why, WHY must her main characters call anyone to whom she has affection, “hon”? UGH. Charley Davidson did it, and now Sunshine does too. This is a major pet peeve of mine. If a sheriff or professional investigator called me “hon” during the course of investigation, I would be irritated beyond measure. It’s unprofessional, and I do not take well to others using terms of endearment with me if not a significant other or family member. Darynda, please stop with the “hon” bs.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the privilege of allowing me to read and review this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

A huge thanks got NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and Darynda Jones for the digital ARC.

This is the third and final installment of the Sunshine Vicram series and my favorite! Or at least until I do another re-read of all three.
Sheriff Sunshine Vicram is not starting the day off well, suffering through a vicious hangover while investigating who could have brutally attacked a young woman and thrown her body over a cliff, leaving her critically injured and clinging to life. Auri, the 15 year old daughter and FBI-agent-in-the-making, can't sit by and let her Sheriff mom have all the fun. Meanwhile, Levi is still brooding in the corner and Quincy is... Quincy. :D I've come to love these characters so much! The mystery is suspenseful, the read fast-paced and hilarious at the best times! I could have hung in there for a longer ending, the resolutions coming way too fast for my taste, but I loved it! Bonus love for Auri reading the Charley Davidson series!! Hahaha! There were some awesome one-liners...Quincy needs his own series.
