Lot of fun catching up with Sunshine, Quincy and gang. She does have her hands full and the hangover doesn't help. For a small town there is sure a lot going on. Love the characters and the twists and turns on this one. Finished at 2:30 AM...just couldn't put it down. I had to know how it ends.
Please don’t let this be the end of the series! 🥹
A Hard Day for a Hangover is a delight! It’s fun-filled, mysterious, romantic and laugh out loud funny. Sunny Vicram and the residents of Del Sol have my heart. I hate to see the series end; although honestly, it feels like there can be a bit more. Not everything was wrapped up. Fingers crossed we get more.
I will forever recommend this series and cannot wait to see what else Darynda Jones gives us in the future.
Major trigger warning: mass shooting
Thank you NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Thank you very much to net galley for an ARC. I absolutely adore this author! Her Charley Davidson series is my absolute favorite and sunshine and her daughter and all the other characters definitely do not disappoint in this series. I would say character development and humor would be the heart of all of her books including this one. I love the mystery and the story including the main story as well as all of the other side stories. It definitely kept me entertained , however a problem I have with this book in particular is that the main mystery/villain was pretty predictable. Also some little issues I have with if I am being picky is I think the dangerous daughters and sons storyline is weird. Also the whole paternity story was a little weird too I don’t want to give anything away I just thought some stuff that was explained didn’t really feel like it lined up. All in all tho, I love love love darynda Jones and this book is cute and her characters are a hoot. I enjoyed this book and will pretty much read anything from this author.
A fun conclusion to the Sunshine Vicram trilogy! The characters and setting remind me of the Gilmore Girls, with more crime and less whining. If you haven't started this series, you've got time to catch up before A Hard Day for a Hangover is released in December. I can't wait to see what Darynda Jones does next!
Darynda Jones books are always entertaining and this one was certainly no exception. This is book three in the trilogy, and you really should read the previous books to get the full enjoyment of this one, which is certainly no hardship. I did a re-read of the previous two books to get the full experience.
This book starts immediately after the previous one ended. As usual we are treated to a blend of mystery, comedy, romance, and the snark and shenanigans that make Jones' books the treats that they are. The comedy relief interspersed with more serious topics is timed perfectly. There is a lot going on in this crazy ride of a book, some of it very serious, some if it just for fun.
There is a lot of action at the end, and all the loose threads are tied off, though I would've enjoyed a little more on that aspect with another chapter or an epilogue to tie things up a bit more tightly. I wish this series wasn't ending, as I would certainly enjoy more escapades for Sunshine and her gang. If you need some fun in your life, this is the series for you.
Sunshine is back with a new mystery. After finding an unconscious young woman thrown off the side of the highway, the team needs to find the culprit. But is this event connected to others and are they dealing with a repeat offender? Book 3 did not disappoint. New mystery to solve and old storylines are brought to an end. The sparks between Sunshine and Levi are still alive, and Auri is being the best precocious teenager around. Love this series.
A Hard Day for a Hangover finds Sheriff Sunshine Vicram in the middle of a missing persons case as multiple women go missing. An injured Jane Doe and a body discovered on a cliff take her case to an even more sinister direction. Her daughter Auri is struggling from past trauma but it doesn’t put a damper on her ability to sniff out crime. Danger and suspense lead the story as both Auri and Sunny might get their chance at their crushes. Sarcastic, funny, and suspenseful with wonderful characters, the Sunshine Vicram series will always be one of my favorite mystery series. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.
I was very excited that I got a copy of this book through Net-Galley, in return for a review, since I love the series and am a big fan of Darynda Jones.
I would recommend that you read the books in order, since one picks up were the last one has left off, plus its a win win since its such a great read. I love the characters and the storyline, I just wish the series would go on some more, but I heard a rumor that this was the last book in the series. I want more Sunshine. So in order to get my fix in I am re-reading the books again. Very entertaining read and I highly recommend it.
I read the first two Sunshine Vicram books to prepare myself for reading the third installment and let me tell you, I am fully ensconced in the town of Del Sol and a huge fan of all its residents! This was a great story with so many fun characters. The banter was great, especially between Sunshine and Quincy and Sunshine and Auri. There were a lot of laugh-out-loud moments, but this book had me speed-reading through the pages when it got to the exciting parts. There were some great plot twists that kept me on my toes. I gave it four stars because it felt like it took forever to get through, even though I was really enjoying myself. I would definitely read another Darynda Jones book!
This was an excellent addition to the series. Sunshine continues to provide us with examples of her amazing parenting skills (Sin Cave), detection skills (Doug & the knitting needle conundrum), and romantic skills (yes, things get steamy with Levi). Plus, the author immediately delivers on the promise implied by the book title, with Sunshine handling more than one local crime while also nursing a hangover. Things go from bad to worse, as they are wont to do now that Sun is the local sheriff, but she and her crew of deputies, family & friends, make sure to get it all sorted out in the end.
Another amazing Sunshine Vicram book in the bag! I love how sarcastic and snarky Sunshine and Auri are, and how sort of moody Levi is.
I understand this to be the final book for Sunshine and family, so it makes sense that things are wrapped up. I just wish there had been a bit more conflict resolution between Sunshine and Levi. I felt like they both were just like welp we're together now. And that was that.
I also wish there had been more suspense with Levi's family issues.
But all in all, I absolutely love this series and I can't wait to read what Ms Jones comes out with next. Absolutely check out her Charley Davidson series, if you haven't yet
The only complaint i have is that i had to wait so long for the next installment!!! Love, love, love Sun and Auri and all the characters in the book. Auri dives right into her mother's cases and is so good at helping her solve them. And Sun Levi's relationship is finally out in the open. Can't wait for the next book in the series!
A Hard Day for a Hangover is Darynda Jones’ third entry in the Sunshine Vicram series. The story is full humor, multiple plotlines and complicated family relationships. This can be both good and bad. It’s hard not to get invested in the characters, as they reoccur in each book of the series. But keeping such a large cast of characters and their relationships to each other straight can be difficult to do, especially if you read the books when they come out and not consecutively one after the other. I read A Good Day for Chardonnay when it was released so it took me awhile into this story to reorient myself to the ongoing plots, which include a skilled, and yet somehow motley, police department, the various community members, and last but not least the very large and divided Ravinder family. This division ends up being a plotline in each story, and in this case it’s Clay Ravinder wanting to kill his nephew Levi (who also happens to be Sunshine’s significant other) and take over the family business. This story runs along what would be considered the primary storyline of trying to track down who is assaulting and abandoning young women for dead, after a young woman is found clinging to life – and a cliff. The stories are fun, but it’s a lot to keep track of on top of all the characters. I also feel like the “secondary” storyline is going to continue to build on past events and become ever more complicated, if Jones’ other series about Charley Davidson is any indication. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it tends to do a disservice to what is usually the more intriguing mystery to be solved, and is easier to keep up with if you read the series one book directly after the other. I look forward to more adventures with Sunshine, Auri, Levi & Co., but I kind of hope for a scaled back community story with more emphasis on the mystery. A complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Although this is the third in this series, this is the first book that I have read in it. I wish I had some more backstory, so I would recommend reading the first two before diving into this book - but I definitely will be going back to read the previous books! Darynda Jones does a lovely job of mixing humor with drama without being over the top or making you roll your eyes. Sunshine is immediately likeable, as much as for her tenacity as for her flaws. The book moves quickly, and we get glimpses of some side characters on their own little adventures, and everything seems to come together in the end. This was such a fun, pleasant read and can't wait for more. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.
A great big thank you to St. Martins Press for the ARC to review! This is the third book in the Sunshine Vicram world and it’s just as good as the two before it. Darynda Jones knows how to tell a story. You will laugh out loud, be shocked and maybe shed a tear or two. No spoilers but if you’ve read the first two, you will be ecstatic about what unfolds in the third book! Here’s to hoping there is a fourth story!
Sheriff Sunshine Vicram is back along with her cast of lovable friends/deputies, family, and of course Levi Ravender, who Sunshine has loved since the beginning of time. I really enjoyed this 3rd book and felt that it wrapped up this series nicely. At times I wanted less of Auri acting like Nancy Drew and more of Sunshine and her deputies.
This series is always a hilarious ride but also provides a fine amount of murder and mayhem and I am going to be sorry to see this series end. I loved the quotes at the beginning of each chapter! If you love the Finlay Donovan or early Stephanie Plum (Janet Evanovich) series you will love this one!
This was an absolutely delightful read! The adventures of Sunshine and Auri are hilarious and leave you wanting it to never end.
I have been very excited to read "A Hard Day for a Hangover" after the semi-cliffhanger of the last book. To get this book as an e-arc really made my week/month! <3 This is the final book of the trilogy, so definitely read the first two books before starting this one. There is enough going on with a large cast of characters that I could see another book coming out in the future.
Whenever I finish a series, the most important aspects are:
1) Were there any annoying loose ends to the story?
2) Was the story rushed/too slow?
3) If it's a mystery, was the resolution satisfactory?
4) Would I want to re-read or come back to it again someday?
I think Darynda's trilogy got a high score in almost all of these categories.
I did feel the pacing of this book was a little strange- Levi doesn't make much of an appearance until later in the book. Since I think of this as a mystery+romance, his appearance felt abrupt and his relationship with Sunshine felt lackluster.
The mystery was solved as expected, but I thought it was a pretty obvious who-dun-it. Only took a little of the enjoyment away from the story, but this book didn't have the complexity as the first two.
Overall, a solid ending to the trilogy. Each chapter has a cute/snarky heading that I often screenshot to send my husband. Definitely one of the highlights of the book :)
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced e-copy of this book in exchange for a review. Publication is set for Dec. 6th- a long wait for some-- but well worth the read!
Thank you to Saint Martin press for the opportunity to read the finale of the Sunshine Vicram book series by Darynda Jones. I loved this book. The author has created another page turning mystery that is humorous and so difficult to put down.
After a woman is found in the hills of Del Sol, Sheriff Vicram must find out who she is and who has attacked her. But that isn’t her only challenge. Her family and the beloved citizens of Del Sol have a hard time staying out of trouble especially Sunshine’s daughter Auri. With every turn, Auri wants to help solve the mysteries and she finds more than clues, Auri always find herself in a new predicament or her mother does. And then there is Sunshine’s life-long crush, Levi. The truth about their history is not what Sunshine remembered and the resulting complications have to be resolved.
The titles of the chapters made me literally laugh out loud. If you love a funny, quick read mystery that has a good pour of loyal and trustworthy family, hot love interests, quirky best friends and wine, you should read this book and the rest of the series.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO BUY THIS SERIES!!
This book is so full of snark and laugh out loud moments, just the same as the first two books. This book reads as the finale of the series (which if true totally bums me out), but should the author wish, she could definitely continue on (🙏🏽).
There is lots going on with teenage girls being murdered, Levi’s uncle breaking out of jail, his other uncle trying to kill him and Auri’s sleuthing. And a few twists and turns. This book held me captive from beginning to end and I didn’t want to put it down. Those chapter headings kill me, they are so funny.
