Say it isn't so! Book 3 of the trilogy. Well, this one had me laughing my way through it and once I started this one I had a hard time putting it down to carry on with life. Sunshine has a lot going on and after spending her night at the bottom of a bottle of tequila she and her side-kick Chief Deputy Quincy are called out to a stabbing of none other than their local flasher, Doug, who has a knitting needle in his neck. Close on those heels is the call to the canyon where a teenager has been found by a hunter and she is barely hanging on to life. She has been thrown over the guard rail. Sunshine doesn't have time for her hangover and all this closely resembles another victim from a year ago. Of course, her daughter, Auri, has put on her sleuthing hat and decided she is going to solve all the crime including this all while watching over Cruz. Add in the prison break of Levi's uncle Wynn, and his other uncle, Clay, who wants to kill him and there is enough craziness to keep everyone on edge. This one is full of just as much snark and sass and laugh out loud goodness I did not want it to end but when it did it left me with a great big smile. The best part, if this author decides to keep this series going, there is plenty of room to keep it spinning along! Hint, hint, GREAT BIG HINT!
A great mystery with a fantastic dialogue that will keep you reading and wanting more. "A Hard Day for a Hangover" lives up to its name. A young girl is found beaten and unconscious. It turns out that this is not the first time this has happened. Sheriff Sunshine has this mystery on her hands as well as some local crime happening around town. There have been some local robberies and the local flasher has gotten stabbed in the neck with a knitting needle. To top it off she is still trying to find out how Levi feels after hearing about Auri.
The novel also focuses on Auri as she tries to help her mom and comes to terms with what she went through with Cruz. Auri is a freshman in high school and is a strong and determined 15 year old. She is fiercely loyal but also extremely curious. After hearing about the beaten girl she gets a hunch about who it could be. This propels her to investigate on her own. She thinks that she is helping but she has no idea what she is getting into.
This is the third book in this series and what I absolutely adore about this series is the dialogue. It is smart, funny, and really hooks the reader. There is lots of action and I never find myself getting bored with what is happening. There were some really touching moments as well that just made my heart melt. A wonderful end to this trilogy!!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this ARC!
I just love this author. Her writing style, wit, characters, and humor are just done so well. This one did not disappoint! I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and the great cast of characters. There were a few different storylines going on at the same time, but this didn't slow down the flow of the story.
I loved it! This author is a whiz at witty wisecracks! There was something to laugh about on virtually every page. I do appreciate though that the serious issues are acted on directly and not taken lightly. This was a really great mystery that explains quite a few things from previous books in the series. I adore everyone that Sunshine has included in her group, they are all simply wonderful people. I can't wait for my sister to read this so we can drop funny book references together.
This is a bittersweet read, bitter as it's the conclusion to the Sunshine Vicram trilogy and sweet because it's Sunshine Vicram. Sunshine and her irascible daughter are working to identify a victim dumped off the side of a mountain. The only difference is, Aurora is doing it on the sly, without her mother's knowledge and most definitely, without her approval. In the meantime, Sunshine is trying to track down Levi before his uncle tries to kill him. All in all, a pretty standard week in Del Sol, and a fun read!
Thanks to St. Martin's Press for access to a digital ARC on NetGalley.
A Hard Day for a Hangover is a great way to finish this series. It wraps up different storylines, there is danger, suspense, humor and love. Everything you expect in a Darynda Jones book. I always feel like I know the characters intimately without having long histories or narratives about them shoved down my throat. Darynda does a great job fleshing out the characters and immediately making the reader care about them. I would read anything by Darynda.
Well, I loved reading this book! I love this series, and I reread the first two once I had this one, which was great, because I forgot so much-and then I had to dive right into this one! And it was so freaking fantastic, it was such an amazing read!
This mystery, with the injured girl being found on the cliff, and the subsequent connections made, it was intriguing. I had a good idea of where it was going, but there was so much else going on as well, what with the threat that Clay posed to Levi.
All those developments with Sunshine and Levi, oh, I lived for them! We've been dancing around the two of them for 2.5 books, and I loved where things went with them! It was just so heartwarming to read, espcailly with Levi being Auri's dad, and how she reacted to the news.
I think there's two things that weren't wrapped up, one was was Quincy and Hailey. There was a pep talk, but I don't think they were mentioned again after that. I mean, I know they're going to work out, but it would've been great to have that confirmation. The other was who was controlling Nancy, I don't remember finding that out...
Loved reading this book, and I can't wait for more by Darynda Jones!
Let me start by saying, I love this series. Every since I discovered Darynda Jones, I devoured her Charley Davidson series and was so excited for this one. I love the frenetic, crazy energy of the characters. It feels like watching a sitcom police procedural; all the murder with plenty of humor thrown in.
Which is why it's so upsetting for me to give this book 4 stars instead of 5. I have been waiting for this book since I finished the second one, and while this book answered all the questions (and has me eagerly waiting for the 4th book), I was rather disappointed in the climax. I felt the end left a lot of questions unanswered in regards with the "murder of the week" and the murderer. The whole reveal felt weak without the added benefit of knowing the why. Why did the murderer do what they did? That's one of the best part of a climax! Without it, the ending felt rushed.
Overall, if you loved this series and characters, this book is going to hit the spot. I'm still going to continue to reading the series because I love this crazy band of characters and I'm so eager to learn what's next in store for them.
I have been eagerly waiting for over a year for this third book in the Sunshine Vicram series and I certainly hope that it is not the last.
Sunshine, the main character, is the reluctant sheriff of Del Sol, New Mexico and she finds trouble almost as often as trouble finds her. A returning cast of helpful and unhelpful characters return to help her solve crimes and catch bad guys. Her teenage daughter also tries to find her own way into the investigations to help her mother. I don't want to give anything away, but there is a hot guy involved too! All of this leads to a formula for success.
This book could be read as a stand-alone novel, but I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to start with the first book in the series. They are fun and humorous and good suspense stories too, with a little romance thrown in to top it all off. This is a great series for fans of the Stephanie Plum series of books.
My sincere thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for giving me the opportunity to read a digital ARC of this book. Publication date: December 6, 2022.
I am so sad that this is the last book of this series!! I loved this town, the characters, and all the inter-relationships. It was funny, sweet, and action packed. The slow burn of the romance was so slow I feel we didn't get a chance to enjoy the two main characters actually being together. Also, I thought the ending was really abrupt, especially since this is the last book. But overall, I really loved this series - my only complaint is that it is over. #NetGalley
Darynda Jones is a master of telling a really good story that also makes you laugh out loud! I love Sunshine and her daughter, Auri’s relationship, it never fails to amuse. I know this is a trilogy and Hard Day for a Hangover is the last but I will be ever hopeful that changes.
A Hard Day for a hangover is the third and final book in the Sunshine Vicram series by Darynda Jones. First and foremost, I have to say how much I loved EVERY book in this series, and this one was no exception! I’m sad to see this series be over, I would love to see more of these characters.
Del Sol is a strange place, so Sunshine Vicram has her work cut out for her as the sheriff in the New Mexico town. Without spoiling, this book contains abductions, serial killers, a manhunt for a raccoon terrorizing one of Del Sol’s finest, and of course, more Ravinder family drama.
As always, Darynda Jones has a knack for creating a fun balance between mystery, action, a bit of spicy romance, humour, and the best snarky banter I’ve seen in any book. Everything is perfectly executed, and reading her books is a true pleasure - so easy and fun to read!
I can’t wait to see what this author comes out with next! This is a must-read (but make sure you read the first two books before this one!)
5/5 stars ⭐️
Thanks so much to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts!
This is book three in this series and I’m kinda sad to hear it’s the last one. Each book has been really good.
This one starts off in a flash and moves fairly quickly. It wraps up everything that’s been going on since book one.
I really like all the characters especially Auri. She’s pretty smart. It’s a great book and series
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy
Are we sure this is the last book in the series?? I’m not ready to say goodbye to these funny and relatable characters. They make me wish Del Sol was a real place I could move to.
I was hooked to the story from beginning to end and suffered greatly for it by staying up much too late on weeknights not wanting to put the book down.
The ending left me craving more and truly, I wish we could have gotten more of the happy family finally together as they should’ve been all along. I also felt that Quinn’s love story should’ve gotten a better ending than what we received. I would’ve liked to have seen the aftermath of their epic night together.
Darynda has a true talent of creating characters that are easy to fall in love with and that I wish existed in real life so that we could become best friends.
A Hard Day for a Hangover is the conclusion to the bestselling Sunshine Vicram trilogy and I'm sad that the trilogy is now complete. Darynda Jones is one of my all-time favorite authors and she delivered another blockbuster story.
If you are looking to loose yourself in a good story, look no farther. She has written a humorous and daring wine mystery trilogy that you really don't want to miss. Her characters are well fleshed out, each story-line intertwines with the rest of the story seamlessly, and the chapter openers may just make you laugh-snort your beverage of choice when you read them. You might cry, but you will laugh as you read the adventures of Sunshine Vicram, her family, and her friends. I'm sad to see them go, but hope we will see them again in short stories or novellas in the coming years.
As this is the third book in the trilogy, this is not a standalone read, although the author has written small reminders of how the story arc has gone so far in several places, so you could read it standalone and still understand what is going on. You'll miss out on so many important details if you read it that way - so don't.
This series is on my constant re-read shelf along with Darynda Jones's other books and I hope it will end up on yours as well!
I didn’t want this book to end! Full of humor, suspense, and little side stories the author weaves a tale around a small town and its people, with Sunshine as the focus. A perfect read.
Oh my word! I don't know what to say about this book other than I loved it. I loved Sunshine, Levi, Auri, Quincy and the rest of the crew in Del Sol. Darynda Jones ties up the over-arching storyline with the Ravinders while solving the latest criminal goings on in her small town. Questions were answered and romantic entanglements clarified but in the as my as I love the characters and the series, I'm sad this appears to be the end. Maybe there will be a different storyline arc for this set of characters and we'll get more (I can only hope so) or maybe we stay in the same world but we have different leading characters. I can only hope we get more from Del Sol. This book (and the entire series) had a knack for making me laugh out loud several times and shed a tear here and there. It was fun while it lasted. Until we meet again.
So much fun! This whole series is awesome and this just adds to it. Drama,, mystery, action and more it delvers at every turn. I can't wait for the next adventure.
If the attention-grabbing titles or captivating covers aren’t enough to press the buy button, then the opening lines from Ms. Jones’ latest in the Sunshine Vicram series (I love her name!) should do it.
Normally, Sheriff Sunshine Vicram would’ve been alarmed at the sight of a knitting needle sticking out of a guy’s neck. At the very least, she would’ve been concerned for the horrified man’s well-being. Yet, there she stood. Unmoved. Unshaken. Unstirred.
A Hard Day for a Hangover- Darynda Jones
While this is the third book in an engrossing series, it’s not necessary to read them in order, the author does an excellent job with introducing her readers to the backstory-though all three are must-reads!
Sunshine was passively coerced into her position as sheriff of her hometown by her well-meaning parents and is determined to succeed for her teenage daughter’s sake. When a young girl is found beaten and the body of another is discovered nearby, Sunny and her deputy (best bud Quincy) investigate, concerned their own teens could be in danger.
This is a fast-paced read filled with heart and fun little gems like this one from the chapter headings:
If one day you intend to be the little old person in a nursing home who leads the rebellion and puts vodka in all the IV bags, we are having a sale on Absolut. Stock up now!

I understand this to be the final book in this series. I hope Ms. Jones reconsiders, these characters are the best!
I'm so sad I don't get to be part of the Del Sol life anymore but I love reading about Sunshine so I'll definitely be revisiting these books again and again. I don't know what it is about Darynda Jones but I've never fallen harder for a man in a book the way I do the ones she writes. I love the anticipation of the will they won't they dance she perfectly orchestrated through out the series.
The characters are so well written for the roles they're given if that makes sense? You have the loveable best friend, kick ass heroines, "villains" who give you the ick vibe, broading bad boy, baby broading bad boy (Cruz). Also the way all the characters interact amongst themselves it feels like such a great group.
I love the mystery and the story but what always brings me back to this author is her amazing character development and the banter and interactions among the characters.
