I loved this book!! My favorite of the series!! I really enjoy the quirky characters that this author creates. I am so sad that this is the last book in the series.

I cannot get enough of this series with its quirky little town, it's charming characters and the drama! Phenomenal, as expected. Darynda Jones just does not miss.

In A Hard Day for a Hangover our favorite wacky characters are back and are just as entertaining and hilarious as ever. In this book, the stakes are higher, there's multiple mysteries to solve and Randi the raccoon is still terrorizing poor Quincy haha. And let's not forget about the sizzling romance. Oh how I love me some Levi.

As one of my all-time favorite series, I did not want it to end. People are probably sick of me because I recommend this series to everyone I encounter. But I don't care. It's amazing!

This is not a standalone so I highly recommend reading the two books that come before this one. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with this early copy.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of A Hard Day for a Hangover by Darynda Jones. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC.

Darynda Jones is back with the conclusion of her Sunshine Vicram series. If you liked the previous two books in the series than you will enjoy Hard Day for A Hangover. The witty banter continues, and we have a new mystery to solve. I will say that three books in, I have decided that the multiple POV between Sunshine and her daughter is not my favorite narrative style. But that is a slight negative, and I give this book 3.5/5 stars.

A Hard Day for a Hangover is the third installment to the Sunshine Vicram series by Darynda Jones. There are continuous series arcs so I recommend reading the previous book first.

This book picks up a few days after the end of book 2. Our main point of views continue to be Sheriff Sunshine Vicram and her daughter Auri. Sunshine , Auri, and the rest of the Del Sol crew have really grown on me and I felt this one was a much steadier pace than the previous two. Our main characters have been strongly established and now we get to enjoy the growth to their relationships' and the actions/reactions to the suspense of the plot. Sunshine and Levi make a significant relationship break through in facing their past history, and it also results in some long awaited steamy one on one time between them.

The plot of this one is a heavy one, with an unknown predator violating and attacking young women in the area. I was fully invested in Auri's part in the investigation, and I really think she's my favorite aspect of this series. Between her smarts, snark , bravery, and budding innocent romance, I devoured her pages.

Overall, A Hard Day for a Hangover is a great addition to this entertaining small town mystery series was, and I can't wait for it to continue.

I really enjoyed the first two books, but something about this one felt tired. the gilmore girl-esque banter became too much, I found myself skimming at parts because the story felt too long. I was happy that Sunshine and Levi ultimately found their way to each other, but I realized that part of the reason I loved the books, was that angst...specifically in the first book!

5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5) I adore this series. Any book that can make me lough out loud is a keeper! But is it over? Please tell me it’s not over.

I waited as long as possible to finish this book, I just didn’t want it to end. I’ve never found myself loving a series so much. The characters are hilarious! I’m literally laughing and making facial expressions throughout. THAT is good writing.

Without going into the series too much, if you love Gilmore Girls humor, sarcasm, banter and non-stop thrillers then it’s for you! Not only does the book keep me on the edge of my seat but it’s done well enough to tug at my emotions.

AUDIO REVIEW: While I love the book, I listened to the first 2 on audio. I was reading and could hear the narrator’s voice in my head so I ended up focusing on the audio. The sarcasm was so much better on audio! The only problem I had was that her teen voices sounded much younger. At the beginning of the series I struggled to understand how old Auri was due to this. Overall, the sarcasm and snark came through so well that I quickly forgot.

A fantastic finale to Jones’ trilogy. Full of quick witted sarcasm, police procedural, and a bit of angsty romance. Absolutely entertaining from start to finish. Highly recommended!

Thanks to #NetGalley for the ARC of #AHardDayForAHangover which was read and reviewed voluntarily.

This is the third book in the Sunshine Vicram series. I'm hearing it might be the final book (aka it's a trilogy), but my fingers are crossed that we'll see Sunshine again because I'm not ready to say goodbye!

Sunshine is the relatively new sheriff of the small town where she grew up. There are some mysteries to be solved and many characters to love. I definitely recommend starting with the first book in the series, A Bad Day for Sunshine. Each chapter starts with abumourous saying. There's lots of over the top dialogue, larger than life characters and unbelievable scenarios. It all works for me- I have laughed out loud in each book multiple times. I love the dialogue and the slapstick comedy. There's also a great storyline and some amazing relationships- community, family, and a some potential romance.

I will say it again- I love this series and highly recommend, especially if you love outrageous humor in your books.

Thanks to the publisher for a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

A Hard Day for a Hangover is the third book in the Sunshine Vicram Series. This story begins just days after the end of book number two. Both Auri Vicram and her boyfriend Cruz De Los Santos are still recovering from the occurrences in book two. However, that does not stop time or the happenings in Del Sol, New Mexico.

The link between Sunshine and Levi Ravinder is further explored and old questions are answered. But new mysteries are also to be solved.

When a young women who has been dumped and left for dead in the mountains is discovered, a new mystery comes into play. And when it becomes apparent that she is not the first, a serial killer is revealed.

This, like the others in the series, is such a wonderful read. With rich characters, a scenic backdrop, and more twists than imagined, it is such a good story. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!

Humor, action, snark, quirky characters and mystery. Darynda Jones has a winner in this third installation of the Sunshine Vicram series. I had not read the rest of the series but it was easy to understand what was going on even though it is obvious there was a lot of backstory I missed that would have added to the story.

There were a lot of characters but they had more depth than I was expecting and were easy to keep separate. This sort of story would never have worked in a large town or a city but worked perfectly in a small town. But this wasn't a cozy. Sunshine is the sheriff who started the day with a hangover and soon lots of trouble. The local exposer had been stabbed, her teenage daughter had fallen in love and there was indication of a serial killer in the area. There were some dark moments but plenty of humor to keep it from being depressing. The culprit, I thought, was a bit obvious but there was action and a variety of things going on to keep the reader interested to the last page.

I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest opinion.

Happy pub day to A Hard Day for a Hangover by Darynda Jones! The Sunshine Vicram series fans are hardcore. And I am one of them. When I was gifted this book by #NetGalley I FREAKED OUT. A Good Day for Chardonnay (book 2 in the series) left us on such a cliffhanger; I didn’t simply want to know what happened, I NEEDED to know. The expectations were HIGH. Did this third book live up to them? OF COURSE! How can we not enjoy spending as much time as possible with our spunky, hilarious sheriff Sunshine, her precocious daughter Auri, her best friend Quinn, the hunky Levi, and all the other wonderful characters in Del Sol, NM? If you are not yet a fan (and you will be)- you are so lucky to have this series ahead of you. I believe you must read these books in order for the full effect, and if you enjoy book 1, A Bad Day for Sunshine, you will enjoy books 2 & 3, the second one being my absolute favorite.

The plots of these books are FULL, too much for me to go into here. In fact, how do they even fit it in a blurb? The characters are plentiful, but they are so unique you are easily able to keep them straight. If you are like me and like banter, this is the banteriest series on earth- there is banter in love, banter in friendship, banter with friends, banter with family, banter with co-workers, and the list goes on.

There is suspense, there is mystery, there is danger, there is humor, there are hilarious Del Sol signs and quotes seen around town and of course, there is love. Thank you @DaryndaJonesOfficial for creating a series I adore.

Although I read this book, the narrator in the first two is incredible; I will probably need to give this one a listen, too! @loreleikingofficial

My only complaint about book 3 is that the drama is DRAMATIC. I was scared, and having a REACTION. I’m assuming there will be a trigger warning.

Open 🚪 in books 2 & 3, not much of a 🚪 in book 1 but the tension is 🔥 4/5 ⭐️

What a crazy ride the Sunshine Vicram books have been! There are very few series that hook me so deeply and keep me craving more like this one has. Typically, my attention starts to wander a little bit after the first book, but in this case, the anticipation has only grown tenfold. Once again, thanks to my book bestie Astrid for encouraging me to read outside of my comfort zone and try a genre that I didn't think I could love. Mysteries are my least favorite books, but she assured me that if anyone could convert me it was Darynda Jones. If you need a little push like I did to try something different, here's my friendly advice: think outside your reading box and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Darynda Jones has such a sharp, acerbic sense of humor that brings such life into her characters. Sunshine was absolutely hilarious. Even in the more tense, suspenseful moments, she was running her sarcastic mouth and making me laugh. That element has been consistent throughout all three books which really made the series a winner for me. Sun always has a million and one tasks on her agenda for the day and torn in so many directions you often wonder how she juggles it all with so much confidence. She's a no nonsense, suck it up and get it done type of woman who would do anything at all to keep her family and town safe. Not only will I miss her and her smart mouth, I will miss her best friend Quincy, her daughter Auri, and her kooky parents. Even the oddballs around town had so much personality and character that it's sad to see them go too. (Except maybe the town flasher, Doug.) I don't think anyone wants to see *ahem* quite so much of him.

In A Hard Day for a Hangover, we take off right where we left off in book two. (**Please be aware that books one and two end in cliffhangers, so if you haven't read the series yet, you may want to hold off on reading my review as there will be plot spoilers ahead for the previous books.**) Sunshine and Levi were finally just starting to communicate and make headway with all of their secrets and issues. Sun had come clean and...BAM!...book abruptly ends. Unfortunately, Levi left before they could fully work everything out as it was a lot to process, and Sunshine drowned her sorrows with tequila. Hungover is not a state you want to be in when you're in charge of keeping Del Sol safe. Not to mention, daughter is prone to getting herself in one dangerous situation after another, and she's as stubborn as she is impulsive.

The mystery in this book revolves around teenage girls getting attacked. There is also a bit of a suspense element from Levi's being in danger from his Uncle Clay's plot against his life. Sunshine is determined to keep the man she loves safe-not only for herself, but for Auri as well. There is also flasher Doug's stabbing, and Mrs. Fairborn's break-in, but these are minor conflicts adding a bit of action to the plot. The girls getting attacked is the most urgent mystery to be solved and both Auri and Sunshine work to find clues in order to piece the puzzle together. Sunshine tries to warn her daughter away from questioning people, but eventually she realizes that she can help her in a small capacity and they end up making quite a symbiotic team. Auri may be a bit reckless, but she's as smart as a whip and genuinely helps her mom with fantastic leads she may have not otherwise found. Typically her boyfriend Cruz would be right at her side watching over her, but after the events in book two, he's at Quincy's most of the time as he heals physically and mentally. I have to say, I missed seeing his strong presence as it was in the first two books. We still saw him, but not as heavily. They make the sweetest young couple and I always enjoy their POV scenes together.

I've been impatiently waiting for the romance aspect of the series to finally resolve itself. There was another mystery surrounding Auri's conception, how much Levi knew about Sun's kidnapping, and the reasons the never spoke after she left town years ago. So many misconceptions, things left unsaid, and hard feelings that never came out into the open. Sun and Levi just silently pine and brood over what could have been. You are almost desperate for them to share their true feelings and maybe, hopefully, be the family they should have been. There was a glimmer of hope in the previous book, but then things are left hanging for well into this story-around 60% or so. I will say, I got a little bit impatient as the story wore on and Levi was in the wind, nowhere to be found. I'm sure non-romance readers won't be bothered by it, but I was hoping for more interactions a little bit sooner.

There were several things that were left unresolved in the plot overall after book two, so I was wondering if everything would conclude neatly without any plot holes. I'm happy to say that all questions were answered here, even the question over whether Sun's father had ever been to prison. It was a bit of a running joke throughout the series as Sun would try to guess or trip him up into admitting something to her. All in all, I came away from this conclusion a very happy reader and can't recommend the Sunshine Vicram books enough. My only reason for taking a star off of my rating was because the mysteries didn't interest me as much in this one and I felt a little impatient reading through them. I think that was partly because I was waiting so eagerly for Sunshine and Levi's story arc to resolve, and partly because the mystery didn't feel as complex or intriguing as the previous one. However, I was very happy with how everything wrapped up and it was more than a little bittersweet to say goodbye to the residents of Del Sol. Once again, I can't recommend these enough if you're looking for something to keep you laughing out loud, and turning the pages late into the night. Maybe if we're lucky there will be a spin-off series somewhere in the future. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and maybe Ms. Jones will have mercy on us all.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. A Hard Day for a Hangover is a great conclusion to this series. It would have been great to read more books with the same characters, but it was entertaining and fun. This last installment contains the same dry, witty humor as the previous books, which contributes greatly to the charm of the series. The books definitely need to be read in order in order to fully understand, and in order to avoid major spoilers. A strong conclusion to a superb series!

There is just too much going on in this book to give a super duper quick summary. But Sunshine Vicram is still the sarcastic, independent, wonderful person you'd like to have for a best friend. That hasn't changed! What has changed, or evolved, are the other characters. With each installment in this delightful series, the other residents of Del Sol are more realized. And while there was a lot of action in this book, the book seemed to still manage to focus on both Sunshine and her daughter Auri. Wow what a powerhouse that girl is! Though I suppose we (and Sunshine) should have expected that. I like where this book left the reader: many of the previous storylines were resolved and others were started. This both leaves me satisfied from a great read and pining for the next one! Please don't let this end now! Three books is not enough Sunshine!

Yet another laugh out loud book by Darynda Jones.

There is no time for the blues when a Darynda Jones is being read. I just love the knee-slap humor her characters have. Beneath all the jokes is the deep love for family. Another aspect of Darynda Jones's writing is that there's always more than one thing going on. A sense of multi-tasking. It's the best way an author can fill the pages. For all the reason I just listed is why Darynda Jones is one of my top authors.

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, so I could give an honest review.

A Hard Day for a Hangover, the third book in the Sunshine Vicram series by Darynda Jones, just reaffirms to me why this author is one of my favorites…I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough while laughing uproariously. The whip smart dialog and razor sharp wit validates my belief that Ms Jones is a genuinely gifted author with an intelligence that permeates throughout the story by way of wicked banter and repartee between her characters.

The interchanges between Sun and Auri are priceless, i.e., Spelunkers and Sin Caves….one of the many where I couldn’t stop laughing. An aspect of the story that was intriguing was that the previous book’s drama was carried over and seamlessly woven in…a particular talent that this author has in keeping her stories captivating and the reader invested and emotionally attached to the characters.

I’m already looking forward to see what is in store for Sun, Levy, Auri, et al…I can only hope that Ms Jones intends that this series continues as long as her Charley Davidson series.

This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

Book three of the Sunshine Vicram series.

Looking for a light mystery with plenty of laughs? Look no further! As a matter of fact, the entire series is a fun romp! But if you haven’t read the first two no worries, you can easily jump in anywhere.

Sunshine is the reluctant Sheriff of Del Sol, New Mexico. Reluctant because her over-bearing (loving) parents coordinated her run for office without her knowledge. Before she could object, she suddenly found herself the duly elected Sheriff!

Her young teenage daughter Auri is a handful, but not in the typical ways you may think. Auri is driven to help solve any crime that comes across her moms’ desk. Like mother…like daughter!

And then there’s Levi, a man Sunshine has (secretly) loved since she was a teen. Can they finally put all the pieces together and officially be a couple? Or will unforeseen circumstances continue to halt any hope for love?

I’m becoming a huge fan of this series, always saving these books for when I need something light to balance my dark thrillers.

The previous two books I read on my kindle. This time I had the opportunity to I listen to the audio version. Now I’m a bit torn which version I’ll continue with for the next installment. (Such a predicament!)🤣

A buddy read with Susanne.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for all my versions!

4.5/5⭐️

When I started the first book in this series (this is #3), I wasn’t sure about it initially. The constant snarky humor felt like it would get old real fast. But as I got to know the colorful, endearing characters the over-the-top humor just seemed a natural extension of their personalities. I have since fallen hard for Sunshine, Levi, Auri and the gang.

As sheriff, Sun has multiple cases going on here (par for the course for her)…a flasher assaulted with a knitting needle, a burglary by a tiny boy band, an escaped convict and on a serious note, one or more sexual assaults. There are also big developments in her personal life.

While it’s not a hardship to figure out the culprits in these mysteries (most of the time), that’s oddly OK for me as it’s the behind-the-scenes getting there that keeps me entertained (along with the stomach-clutching humor, lively characters, tension-filled romance…). The author does a wonderful job of covering all the importance bases in a well-written/well-conceived story.

Just an overall good time with this one. And if you’re interested, I’d definitely start at the beginning (A Bad Day for Sunshine).

My sincere thanks to the author, NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing the free early arc of A Hard Day for a Hangover for review. The opinions are strictly my own.

Add-On: I've just noticed that this is an ending to the series. This makes me sad as I was just settling in with these wonderful characters and was looking forward to more.

I picked up this book not realizing it was #3 in a series after hearing a lot of hype about it - and I can see why! This book was enjoyable and makes me want to go back and read the first two!

Thanks, Netgalley for the ARC of this book!
