This book was so so good with its mental health rep. Mazey just knows how to make things that I felt or experienced be written in just the right way. Although this book would have been 5 stars if not for the trope that was used to drive the story. But even though I hate the trope that was used I still overall had a great time. Also, anything to do with food in a romance novel and I'm in. I can't wait to get my hands on a finished copy of this book.

Reading Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake was definitely not a mistake for me. This book was a super sweet romance that I couldn’t read fast enough. I loved that this book included real life situations (ADHD) but represented in a rom com style while still making them relevant and prevalent. I liked that there was very little of the “miscommunication” trope and the characters actually used their words like adults.

If you are a fan of historical romance novels, this book has so many references to them and I thought they were incorporated in so well. Even if you aren’t a fan of the accidental pregnancy trope, this one might work for you. It definitely doesn’t have the tired recycled storyline of most accidental pregnancies, this is fresh and witty.

The audio is definitely the way to go with this book. The audio is dual POV and Rake has an Australian accent, need I say more. I’m so excited to read the next book in this series.

I don’t typically feel a pull towards books with the surprise pregnancy trope. However with this one I was pleasantly surprised with how well I thought it worked. I enjoyed seeing their dynamic and how even at the beginning their relationship was mainly based on lust it did develop into something more. Lizzie and Rake were great and I felt like they properly balanced themselves out to create an effective team.

However, at the beginning I definitely felt like Lizzie felt more like an over the top stereotype than an actual believable character. Sometimes I felt like she was a caricature of every klutzy and messy woman I have ever read in a romance novel. Women can have ADHD without being limited to just that thing and I felt like Lizzie could have been expanded a lot more and given more depth than just being described as “messy”.

My last thought really surrounds Rake and his ex partner. I feel like the timing of having a female character being vilified for choosing to have an abortion is not the best. Obviously the tension in the US is pretty heated and this book (while the author and characters say they are pro choice), still comes across like the woman who had the abortion is the villain because she cheated. Whereas Lizzie is a good woman because she decided to keep it. Probably a few years ago most people wouldn’t have batted an eye at it, but in the wave of women losing access to choosing for themselves this feels very tone deaf. It wouldn’t affect the plot at all to loose the cheating, pro-abortion ex girlfriend.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This book pulled me in on the first chapter, and I couldn't wait to continue it. I love Lizzie and her spunk toward life, and I loved Rake for being Rake. I appreciate the adult ADHD content but despised her parents. Great book!

3.5 Stars

Lizzie Blake is sunshine in a person. Rake is all Australian charm and a tortured past.

This book was cute, and while I love a "only one bed" trope, there was a bit too much going on here to make anything feel believable. I had fanfic vibes all throughout this book from the slightly unbelievable story line, to the writing, to the characters themselves. I'm also not a huge fan of the accidental pregnancy story line, but that's just personal preference. Also, while I appreciated what the author was trying to do for ADHD representation, it was brought up so often that it felt like forced representation and just rubbed me the wrong way.

Long story short, this book was a cute, quick read, but I don't think I liked it enough to recommend it.

This ARC was given to me to review from the publishers and NetGalley. All comments above are solely my true opinion after reading this book.

In my first foray into Mazey Eddings writings, I found myself submersed in refreshing chaotic wit and unattainable-yet-familiar circles of "is this really happening to me?!" from both Lizzie and Rake. This book is part of series of loosely related stories (think a la the Get a Life, Chloe Brown series by Talia Hibbert). It reads perfectly as a standalone story, but is a fun run-in with main characters from the previous story.

My favorite part of this was neurodivergence at the forefront, depicted realistically with the symptoms, the triumphs, the way she is viewed among her family and how she views herself. It was so painfully relatable but also so comforting to see her embraced and celebrated. The banter between Lizzie and Rake was silly and enjoyable, but I feel like Rake could've had a bit deeper character development.

Without giving anything away, I'll just say that many of us will find ourselves wishing we could confront our families the same way and be supported.

I can't get enough of Mazey Eddings humor! The author perfectly captures the daily struggles of living with adult ADHD without it taking over the story. My heart hurt for Lizzie and what she endures on a daily basis, especially how hard it is to maintain your focus. I absolutely wanted to punch her parents in the face and would fight anyone that treats their children that horribly.

Rake is the Aussie of my dreams and I couldn't get enough of him! I'd love to see more of him, possibly with appearances in future books? His willingness to step up to the plate and be honest from the get-go will make any reader swoon, especially with his accent if you're listening to the audiobook.

An accidental pregnancy is just what my heart needed today and this book delivered on every level. With hilarious banter, plenty of steamy moments, and moments that will melt your heart - this book is a must read for the summer!

I just finished the audio book of this and I really enjoyed it. Mazey has done a wonderful job in this book at the mental health representation that Lizzie goes through. I found a lot of what Lizzie went through really relatable and it really resonated with me. I thought the romance between Rake and Lizzie was very believable and I loved their love. I thought the audiobook was enjoyable and the narrators did a great job,

Narration: I liked that there was both a male and female narrator to voice Lizzie and Rake. Rake’s Australian accent could have been better, but overall I liked the narration.

The Story:
Oh my, prepare yourself for some steam straight out of the gate!

The best part about the book for me was Lizzie, a protagonist who is living with ADHD. I learned so much about what an adult with ADHD goes through on a daily basis. There were times when Lizzie explained a routine that lacked organization or focus that sounded exhausting to me. Now, I have a better understanding of what a person living with ADHD is going through.

But, let’s get to the relationship! Rake was a hunky Australian hero and his insta-connection with Lizzie was hot, very hot! When Lizzie ends up pregnant, Rake does the right thing and learns what Lizzie needs and how to best support her.

I enjoyed this book for its depiction of what life is like for people with ADHD, the supportive relationship between Rake and Lizzie, and the idea that we have the power to swap a toxic family for a supportive found family.

I really enjoyed this book, and found myself laughing so much!! It was impossible not to root for these characters.
Lizzie has ADHD, which makes life difficult for her in many ways, and seen as unreliable to some people closest to her in life. But, she’s also a fantastic baker with a love for life, and fierce friendships that are dear to her.
After a two-night-stand with Rake, a sweet guy in town from Australia for a business trip, Lizzie ends up with a bun in the oven.
They both have past hurts that make them hesitant to dive into relationships. So, when this unplanned pregnancy brings Rake and Lizzie back together, they decide to give co-parenting a try. But, their mutual attraction makes it very hard to keep things platonic.
I loved listening to this on audio, and thought the dual narration was fantastic!! I especially loved the narrators' Australian accent for Rake.
This can be read as a stand-alone book, but I was excited that we also got to catch up a little bit with Harper and Dan from this author’s previous book, A Brush With Love!

Lizzie fierces loves Philadelphia, having left her small town home and family behind to first travel the world before settling there. She also has uncontrollable ADHD, leading to her not being what her parents consider successful - she’s single and has trouble holding a consistent job. But Lizzie is an awesome baker, and she finds an unconventional bakery where she can be innovative with her treats. After a prolonged STEAMY one-night-stand (what do you call that - a two-day-stand?) with an Australian in town for work, Lizzie has an unexpected bun in the oven. Unplanned pregnancy isn’t the main idea of the book, and it is involved in a way that feels more natural than other books I’ve read.
I listened to the first half of this book while packing and cleaning one morning. The audio is fantastic, with dual narration, and I especially loved the narrators’ Australian accents for Rake. While I was loving the audio, I also knew that as I got into bed and wanted to continue, I needed to switch mediums. There is a 100% chance I will fall asleep while listening to an audiobook and then not be able to find the place where I was when I fell asleep, driving myself CRAZY, so I’m not allowed to listen to audiobooks when I’m lying down any more. *cry*
Instead, I continued to devour Lizzie Blake by reading it (hearing the narration in my brain), and I had to force myself to stop and go to sleep. I eagerly finished reading the last half hour the next morning in bed even before I got a cup of coffee - it was that good!
This was the first book I read by Mazey Eddings. I read this as if it was a standalone, but we’ll see if there was anything I missed after I listen to A Brush with Love in the near future. Thanks to NetGalley for the ALC from Macmillan Audio and the ARC from St Martin’s Press/St Martin’s Griffin. This publishes 9/6, and I enjoyed both the audio and the ebook - if it sounds good to you, check it out!

What a cute story. Lizzie has had a difficult life, having ADHD and therefore, having issues with, well, life. It actually made me think of my daughter, who is facing similar issues as Lizzie, what with her inability to focus and get things done in a timely manner. To bring a reader into the story so personally is truly a job well done by the author. In this story, Lizzie meets Rake, an Australian and they have a fling but the fling turns permanent. The story follows their developing relationship but more importantly, the growth of Lizzie as a person as well. I think that inherently, the story tried to do a lot- perhaps too much. It was trying to be really funny (and it was!), while teaching the reader about ADHD and the psychological impact on a person (which it did well) but also be a romance with an additional surprise that Lizzie and Rake had to deal with. Overall, though, I enjoyed the story and thank the publisher, author and NetGalley for an early listen.

Speaking of the audiobook, narrated by Summer Morton and Will Peters, I thought they did really well. Will Peter's Australian accent sounded so authentic and his ability to go from accent to accent was admirable. His woman's voice sounded a bit forced and too high pitched but still, well done. Summer Morton also did a good Australian accent though not as effortlessly or consistently. But I really enjoyed their narration!

Huge thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for this advanced listeners copy of Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake!

I loved this!! At first, I was a little shocked by the steamy scenes, but that's probably because I don't read a whole lot of steamy books. But this book was so much more than that!!

It's a story of heart, of beautifully written mental health representation (specifically, ADHD) and a story of figuring out what's most important in life - and recognizing all that you deserve!

I love how genuine Lizzie's character is. She's unabashedly herself though she realizes her shortcomings. Rake is kind and gentle and most importantly, super understanding and loyal to Lizzie in every capacity.
These are the types of characters I love to read!

I'd recommend this book to anyone, really. The pregnancy trope is usually a tough one, and comes across very cringey. This does not! This is a pregnancy trope done RIGHT.

I can't wait to read more from this author!!

Well paced romance, goes deep into the main female character and her struggles. It took a while for the man to open up and then to me the relationship really took off. If you've read the authors first book you'll enjoy this one as well.

A Romantic comedy that features two stubborn people and a surprise that pulls their lives together. Both characters have baggage and they are both determined to stay unattached. A two night stand results in an unexpected pregnancy. Can these two strangers pull themselves together for the sake of the baby? This story is a nice light read and has entertaining characters. I listened to the audiobook version of this book and the story moved at a fast pace. The narrators were perfect for the story and kept my interest.

Disclaimer: Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin for this Audiobook, I received review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Abolutely a delight of a read. I was and am obsessed with Mazey Eddings's debut novel, and she delivers once more in this one. Lizzie and Rake are a pair to love with your whole heart. Be prepared!

Lizzie herself is so sweet and wonderful and such a dynamic character. I feel like she was written with such care. Her mental health was a thing but it wasn't the defining characteristic. I loved the depth there was and how much she grew. I want to be a patron of Bernadette's so bad!

Also, I love Rake. He is the sweetest nicest boi. I love the grumpy-sunshine. He had a lot of his own things going on and it was so great to see him grow as well.

This book was really cute, and had a medium level of steamy scenes. I liked the second half of the book a lot better than the first half, so if you are struggling at the beginning, keep going, it gets so much better!

Lizzie Blake... what a lovable character! Don't even
get me started on Rake Thompson, the dreamy
Australian man. What starts as a one night stand
turns into something neither one of them
imagined. Sprinkle in an unplanned pregnancy, a
move halfway across the world, and "attempting
to live with your child's parent while keeping things
platonic, and you have yourself Lizzie Blake's Best
Mistake! Their whirlwind romance is chaotic and exciting and I am 10000% here for to!

I love how Mazey Eddings represented all of the aspects of ADHD and I truly never have seen it represented in a book like this before. Thank you Mazey for this gem of a book! It is one of my top books of the year so far! I loved the narration of this book as well! I felt like the voices went well together.

I didn’t know that there was a book before this one and this book just didn’t do it for me. I don’t know what it is with me and romance novels this month. I did like Lizzie and Blake, I just didn’t love them. I might go back and read the first book.

I did not make it past chapter 2. I disliked the character so much. THe narration sounded angry and upset, which I don't need to read.
