Lizzie's life has been a string of chaotic events: kitchen fires, pyramid schemes, job losses and bangs. As a result, she refuses to let others close to her... until she meet Rake, a charming Australian, just after she has lost yet another job. Rake has also given up on relationships after having being burnt by past lovers. Lizzie however, with her chaotic charm, convinces him to lower his guard and they enjoy a wild two night stand before he flies back to Australia. Flash forward to Lizzie realising she is pregnant and both parties have to figure out how to embark on parenthood after both making themselves emotionally unavailable.

This book was a fun ride. Both narrators were wonderful and really added extra character to Lizzie and Rake. One of my favorite things about Mazey's writing and characters is the way she showcases disabilities. Lizzie has ADHD and the issues, complications and differences this created throughout her life were so realistic. The way her family had struggled raising her when she was different and desperate to have her be "fixed" to fit into their specific way of life was heart tugging to read. She was cramped and made to feel less than for years. Made to focus on the negative side of ADHD. It was wonderful to watch her blossom once she leaned into her ADHD and realized she just needed to walk to the beat of her own drum. She is creative and an excellent baker and she excels in her new job, baking and decorating erotic cakes, especially when her boss understand her disability and works to accommodates it. It also showed a great partner (Rake) is one who accepts you for exactly who you and never makes you feel like a burden.

A surprise pregnancy is central to the storyline. Rake uproots his life in Australia to figure out how to be a parent in Philadelphia with Lizzie. Whilst surprise pregnancy is not my favorite trope, nor the quick escalation of attraction/love between characters, I really enjoyed the journey it took both characters on. Along the way we got to see that a great partner is one who accepts you for exactly who you and never makes you feel like a burden. They both had to do deep reflection and heal past trauma to emerge happier and together on the other side.

Mazey's writing style is a joy to read/listen to. She creates such buoyancy in the text that you fly through the pages. Banter, witty one liners and very real characters have you laughing and smiling throughout.

Lizzie and Rake have an 'unexpected surprise' as a result of a fling. Can they learn to co-parent, live with each other and maybe find themselves along the way?

This book is a top read for me this summer. I fell in love with Lizzie and Rake. It is a cute romance with a great ending - but more than that, Mazey Eddings writes and places characters with neurodivergence at the front. For people with any kind of neurodivergence it is great representation. In this case Lizzie has ADHD. Mazey does a great job of describing life with ADHD. The ups and downs, pros and cons of it all. She places Lizzie in the midst of her trying to cope with ADHD and learning ways that help her along the way.

I rooted for Lizzie and Rake the whole way through.

I received an audiobook copy from #Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this story maybe because it was so light but flowed well or it hit me when I was in the perfect receptive place. Lizzy is and adult ADHD and kind of all over the place. She holds herself apart from men using them for sex and keeping her distance until a one night stand turned into so much more. The book provides a strong basis for friendships making friends family, not worrying about parents expectations but living your life. Standing up for what you believe in is another underlying message with Rake. The story moves quickly and is light. I have not read this author before but will definitely looking up more of the authors book. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity.

I requested this one without realizing it was the second book so I listened to A Brush with Love first, but I did enjoy the this one more. I thought Rafe was such a sweet guy and so protective over Lizzie. I didn’t think I’d like the accidental pregnancy trope, but this one was pretty cute. I love how this type of accident fit Lizzie’s personality perfectly. Also, the business that Lizzie ended up working for was hilarious. I love how her relationship with her family was displayed and how those relationships grew throughout the book. The narration for this book was very entertaining and the accents were spot on in my opinion! I would definitely request this one to others.

Unplanned pregnancy is not a trop I enjoy and I have a feeling I’m not alone and that’s why it’s not even hinted at in the synopsis!

I was warned by a friend though and regardless I wanted to read this book anyway, I loved Eddings first book so I was fine with diving in.

It honestly seemed kind of implausible from the start but I don’t always go into fiction expecting things to play out how they would in real life! Why read if that’s how you want 100% of your fiction to go! I enjoyed the characters, Lizzie’s rep was well done from the perspective of someone with an ADHD adult in their life and Rake was fantastic and kind of a dream!

Full disclosure abortion is brought up for a past relationship and I have seen people take issue with what the character said about it. I don’t for a second thing the goal was to villainize the choice! The character was simply confused and hurt that they had no knowledge of it and likely wouldn’t have without finding something pertaining to it! It made them feel like a shitty partner because their partner hadn’t shared what they were going through. I think that’s totally an acceptable reaction, hell my husband gets upset when I close up and internalize things because he feels like he’s not doing something right for me! And again they fully recognized the choice wasn’t theirs to make!

I look forward to reading more from Mazey Eddings in the future!

Omg, this book was so sweet. I felt so many emotions listening to Lizzie and Rake's story. As someone who also lives with ADHD, I loved seeing LIzzie's growth and progress from beginning to end. I was rooting so hard for her. And Rake's groveling after The Big Misunderstanding was top notch. 5/5 stars! I can't wait to read more from this author.

I had such a fun time listening to Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake! This book is the second in the Brush with Love series so we still get little cameos from our beloved characters from book one. The author stepped it up a bit with the spice level increasing right away, I always approve of kicking up the spice a bit.

We follow the story of Lizzie and how her impulsive decisions land her in a situation that isn't exactly ideal,. While the story line is a tad bit unrealistic it's still deals with a lot of realistic situations and how people in the world might navigate those. Mazey Eddings does a great job with the characters and we love them all the more as you read on. I love that Lizzie is a strong woman despite her challenges. Lizzie is a chaotic personality, I...am the complete opposite, more like her love interest, Rake. That aside it was very interesting to get a peak into the brain of someone like Lizzie, as she has adult ADHD. Having had conversations with other people who also have ADHD it was a helpful reminder that life has different challenges for us all.

A great pick for romcom/contemporary fans! I was obsessed with the cover and had to give it a go. Very cute and fluffy! The summary is hilariously chaotic and as someone with ADHD, I really vibed with the MC.

Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake is another fantastic story by Mazey Eddings!! I can count on relatable and accurate characters with her stories, and her ability to delicately create a realistic story that’s touched with humor and grace. 4.5 stars

Just when I thought I was burnt out of traditionally published romance, this little book comes along and sweeps me off my feet! I'm normally not the biggest fan of pregnancy romances, but Eddings does an absolutely stellar job of maneuvering through a lot of pitfalls that personally turn me off of the trope.

I'm sure that there are going to be some people that find Lizzie way too over the top, but I connected with her on a visceral level. Her off-color humor, her struggle to accept that someone can love her whole self, and her vibe of general chaos all add up to a character that felt beautifully flawed and incredibly human. If you are looking for some great romance quotes, look no further than our love interest Rake. Some of the things that he says to Lizzie had me absolutely swooning.

My only complaint was that while the relationship development was immensely entertaining, the ending conflict was introduced so late in the book that it felt like there wasn't quite enough time to wrap things up. However, there was more than enough sweetness, sexiness, and swoon to smooth out this singular speed bump. I'm so happy that I picked this up and I think that it will be a smash hit for a lot of romance readers out there.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review!

“Because life was a shadow before, but you’re the sun.”

That basically sums up my feelings about Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake. The sun broke through my metaphorical clouds while listening, and I’ve been changed. I don’t think I can put all my joyous feelings into any more words. Brilliant.

There was one aspect that took me a while to adjust to, and that was the male narrator. He uses a fantastic Australian accent for Rake’s speaking voice, but uses an American accent for Rake’s internal thoughts. Wouldn’t Rake both speak and think with his native accent? It was weird.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

In the follow-up to A Brush With Love, readers get to know and fall in love with Harper's good friend Lizzie: an impulsive, energetic baker with a penchant for the erotic and a flair for fun. Lizzie, who is bursting with creativity and emotion but struggles to control her ADHD and stick to routines, can't seem to hold down a steady job and fears letting anyone get too close. Then, she meets hot Australian Rake at a bar and a two-night stand changes everything.

Rake, who is in Philadelphia on business, has kept his own heart guarded since it was broken two years ago. Lizzie's incessant curiosity and zest for life floors him and despite their time together being short-lived, he can't seem to get her out of his head.

A few weeks and a few thousand miles later, Lizzie discovers that their two night together has produced more than just good feelings. Much to Lizzie's surprise, Rake insists he'll do whatever it takes to be a part of his child's life and soon they're endeavoring into cohabitating, bed-sharing, strictly platonic co-parenting territory- for better or worse!

💭What I loved: Where A Brush with Love focused a lot on the individual growth of each of the MCs, Lizzie Blake was focused more on Lizzie and Rake developing as a couple. Experiencing their relationship from dual POVs gave a gradual build-up of understanding as to how and why the characters made each other better. I also loved that the book didn't necessarily follow a typical relationship progression or plot trajectory: there was steam at the beginning and then a build of substance as opposed to a typical meet-cute and then slow burn. I enjoyed the pacing and banter of Lizzie Blake even more than A Brush with Love and highly recommend the audiobook which had stellar performances (and fun accents)!

A consideration: Lizzie's scattered thoughts and impulsive nature made it harder for me to connect with her (I personally connected more with Harper from the previous book). But, the insight into the thought process and experience of someone with ADHD was enlightening and gave me a new lens with which to approach and empower folx in my own life whose executive functioning may be different from my own.

Having not read Eddings' first book, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect going into this one. Let me just say, I absolutely loved it!

Lizzie Blake is the best kind of hot mess. She's fun and quirky and a free spirit who prefers casual sexual encounters to real, serious relationships. Rake is an Australian hottie who stepped in and saved her from a handsy, arrogant asshole at a bar. They couldn't be more different: he's clean and tidy and she's messy and disorganized, he's professional and put together and she's constantly switching jobs and doesn't have a plan. But together... phew! Together they are everything nice and total SPICE!

I grabbed this one because I was a fan of Brush With Love and I wanted to learn more about this fun group of friends.
This was a face paced romcom, there were always things happening with Lizzie. Lizzie has adult ADHD, she has always been different, even as a child. Her parents weren't sure what to do with her, she never fit into their lifestyle and that shame has carried through to her adulthood. She doesn't like the way that people look at her, with pity. They look at her like she is a mess, like she will never grow up. The truth is, Lizzie is a mess, but it's not because she won't grow up, it is because her brain works differently than mine and yours and she just needed someone to appreciate that and love her for who she is.
Enter Rake. He is from Austrailia and they have a wonderful two night stand... that turns into more when she calls to inform him that she is pregnant. Rake takes a job across the pond to be with her and their child, but he has issues of his own. He is emotionally closed off after his last girlfriend did a number on him. Slowly he can feel the light that Lizzie shines on him cracking away those walls until there is nothing left but dust.
While I struggled to relate to Lizzie, I could appreciate her situation. There were times I wanted to shake her, and I know that is what the author was trying to get across here, that she is different and we must be accepting. My patience for her wore thin a lot of the times though and it was hard for me to really enjoy her. I would have liked to know why Rake was the way he was a lot sooner as well, especially since we were given his POV. When he finally told Lizzie what had happened to him and what he had lost, I was left feeling underwhelmed and the situation was just a bit odd for me.
I really feel like I am in the minority and that a lot of other people will adore Lizzie and her quirkiness, I just couldn't relate as well as I had hoped to. I ugre you to give it a try because you really might love it. I am rounding up to 3.5 for the audio because the narrators were phenomenal.
Thank you to Mazey Eddings, Netgalley and Macmillian for an early audio copy.

Lizzie Blake is a hot mess and someone I can see many people adoring. Rake is a sweet and charming, yet sometimes awkward Aussie who appreciates Lizzie for everything she is. Many people seem to be loving this book, but it wasn't for me. Many of Lizzie's struggles are related to her ADHD, but her immaturity played a role too and then she gets upset that people don't take her seriously. For instance, the name tag mishap at Rake's work event. I can appreciate Lizzie's sense of humor, but there's a time and place. Rake's formal work event was not the place to write an inappropriate name tag to be funny, even if she hadn't intended to actually wear it. Rake was furious that his boss didn't respect Lizzie, but with the inappropriate name tag on, Lizzie didn't show any respect for herself when they first met.

But people who love the following will especially be entertained with this book:
-Dual POV
-SPICY
-Erotic themed baked goods
-Accidental pregnancy
-ADHD rep

Thank you to St. Martin's Press, Macmillan Audio, and Mazey Eddings for the advanced listening copy of Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake. The following review contains my thoughts & opinions.

Lizzie Blake is a talented baker with adult ADHD who is vibrant and full of life, with loyal friends and parents who never really saw her or loved her as she is. Rake Thompson is a marketing exec from Australia who works too much and is closed-off to anything resembling a relationship (even a physical one) after past hurts. After a two-night stand while Rake is visiting Philadelphia for work, they have a little surprise a few weeks later...' how will this impact their futures?

Mazey Eddings' first book, A Brush With Love, was one of my favorites earlier this year, and Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake is another wonderful read. She has created two characters that seem opposites yet complement each other in the best ways. Lizzie and Rake are two beautiful characters with depth and care for each other (even when trying to hide it). The ADHD representation was done so well. You can't help but love and root for them!

The last quarter of the book left me sobbing - there is so much heart and emotion, it's impossible not to feel all the things. The book hangover I now have from Lizzie & Rake is real. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a spicy romcom with depth and heart. The audiobook was done so well - the narrators were perfect for who I would have expected for Lizzie and Rake!

This novel literally started out with a bang. This love story was realistic and fun, and Rake proved to be best kind of book boyfriend too. I throughly enjoyed the dual POV from the love interests. The story was brought to life through the wonderful narration. Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake is a touching story you can't help but fall in love with the characters and the story.

Thank you Macmillan Audio for the ARC of this novel.

Lizzie is a hot mess of uncontrolled ADHD. When she meets a hot Australian in town on business she adds him to the notches on her bedpost as they both move on with their lives...or so they thought. When their lives are turned upside down they have about 8 months to get it together. Can Lizzie figure out how to hold a job, be responsible for more than just herself, and organize her black hole of a purse? Can Rake deal with issues from past relationships and an overbearing boss to be what his new family needs? Follow along on this hilariously tropey real world romance that isn't about a polished and pretty life, but still gives you a HEA.

What I loved most about this book was that it was a fully sensory experience. I listened to the audiobook and I feel like the narrators did a fantastic job of portraying the characters and all of the feelings. I don't have ADHD but I was able to peek inside the mind of a character and more fully understand just how that can impact someone's life beyond not being able to pay attention. The author clearly and beautifully wrote about that experience and how it ties into bodily feelings and sensations more than just the mental aspect in a way that I haven't seen before. Told in alternating POVs I enjoyed getting to go inside the minds of both characters and how they were feeling in those moments. This story was equal parts real and hilarious and flowed well throughout the whole book.

This story of Lizzie, who is neuro divergent and struggling with some effects of her ADHD, and her one-night stand, hunky Australian, Rake, when she accidentally becomes pregnant. I loved how the author represented the real struggles of ADHD. Rake was a super swoony hero. I loved the narration in alternating voices and loved Rake's Australian accent. Great book!

Wow, I did not expect to love Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake so much! The surprise pregnancy trope doesn’t really grab me a lot of the time but it worked in this book and I just loved every part of this! Lizzie is a hard working sunshine person who is constantly struggling to manage her ADHD, and Rake is an Australian man with commitment struggles in Philly on a business trip. But their nights of passion change their lives forever when Lizzie realizes she’s pregnant. This book is so genuine and sweet and I loved every second. Lizzie’s journey with loving herself and managing her ADHD was just beautiful and satisfying and I just wanted to hug her. And while I think I would’ve wanted a touch more vulnerability from Rake, I adored how he viewed Lizzie and encouraged her. This book was sweet and funny and emotional. It was steamy and the characters had great banter. The partnership of Lizzie and Rake was so strong and I like they built a friendship as they also struggled with their attraction for each other. I loved how mental health was handled in this read. The dialogue was short and the characters were easy to root for. It was heartwarming and like sunshine. Plus the narrators were so strong for this story! Definitely makes me want to pick up more from this author!
