Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake was so lovely! A unique premise about a girl who becomes pregnant after meeting a charming Aussie, who just so happens to be a sweet baby angel. Lizzie only does one night stands, until Rake comes along. Rake makes it hard not to have feelings, especially when he wants to be involved in the unexpected baby’s life. The two agree to co-parent “platonically” ( ;) ). What comes of this is a touching blossoming of love, and how the most unexpected people end up being the ones who truly make you believe in yourself.
I completely swooned for Mazey Eddings’ writing after reading her debut, and first book in the A Brush With Love series, so I leaped at the chance to read the follow up, LIZZIE BLAKE’S BEST MISTAKE.
One of my favorite things about the characters that Eddings writes, is that they’re flawed and relatable, and often dealing with real struggles like many of us.
Lizzie Blake has made plenty of mistakes along the way, but after losing another job at a bakery and struggling to handle her ADHD, Lizzie decides to have a no strings attached, one night stand with a guy she meets online.
The banter and steam between Lizzie and Rake is so good, and I just loved their relationship. It’s so refreshing to see the representation of neurodiverse characters.
*many thanks to St Martins Press/Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for the gifted copy for review
Mazey Eddings continues to amaze me in her storytelling ability. Summer and Will told the story so beautifully and this was just such a fun audio to listen to. Thank you to Macmillan Audio for the advanced copy
Thank you so much for the advanced copy of this book. It definitely lived up to its hype. This author has become a must read.
This is a very classic case of “it’s not you, it’s me.” I have been following Mazey on IG for a long time and was so excited for her that I overlooked the fact that this book is one of my least favorite tropes. I really wanted to love Lizzie Blake, especially because of the neurodivergent representation, but I just couldn’t get past the accidental pregnancy trope.
Narration: Enjoyed, but narrators are not at the top of my list (I listen to a lot of audiobooks)
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for my copy to review.
A delightful book and romance. It reminds us all that we don't have to be perfect to be happy. Highly recommended for modern romance lovers
I did not finish A BRUSH WITH LOVE, but I wanted to give the author another chance since she seems to be very popular and I appeared to be in the minority. I listened to the book on audio when I found myself unable to focus on the ebook. Unfortunately, her books are not for me. Everyone feels very immature and cartoonish, and what I'm *not* going to do in 2022 America is endorse a book that paints a woman as a villainess for having an abortion.
I normally do not like accidental pregnancy storylines, but I really enjoyed this book. I think the friend group was wonderful. I loved Lizzie Blake and how she really came into her own through her struggles. Mazey Eddings is a fantastic author and I was not able to put this book down! I also like the narrator for this story.
I love Lizzie's character, she has real self-esteem issues from her childhood, she is neurodivergent, and she speaks up on behalf of those she loves. Rake is awesome, I love how he sees the real Lizzie and loves her for all her attributes, including that brain of hers. I thoroughly enjoyed the second book in the A Brush with Love series and I am very much looking forward to reading book #3 The Plus One, Spring 2023, where we will follow Indira through a challenging time.
Summer Morton and Will Peters did a great job of narrating this audiobook. I was able to listen at 2.0x speed and still understand everything being said. I will definitely look for book narrated by these voice actors in the future.
I recently had the pleasure of reading Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake, and it was absolutely wonderful! The story follows the main character, Lizzie, as she navigates relationships with her family, friends, and love interests. The characters are all incredibly well-developed and feel very real. The story is filled with a lot of heart and humor, and I found myself laughing out loud in many places.

👶Surprise Pregnancy
Only Mazey Eddings can make a surprised pregnancy story sexy, hilarious, light-hearted, and reliable. I am also unsure about this type of trope, but I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the love story between the two main characters. They get hot and heavy right off the bat, and the self-discovery throughout made me love the story even more. Rake as a character name was annoying, but I did get used to it in the end. Mazey shows us that no matter who we are, every part of us deserves love, and this is hands down my favorite book by her by far. I can't wait to see the next one that comes out next year. The audiobook of this is just as good as the print version, and honestly, I think I like it more.
Thanks to St Martin Press for the advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own
I have purchased my own copy.
Not going to lie, this book was wild. I laughed a bunch and also read this in a day so I have to say 4 stars!! Usually the pregnancy trope is a no for me, but I went into this read without knowing it was and I was already invested by the time I figured it out. It was super funny! Lizzie and Rake had the best banter! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to listen in exchange for a review.
I loved this book so much. The writing just clicked with me. I really enjoyed the relationship and also the ADHD representation. It definitely made me feel seen. Lizzie and Rake were so cute together and I listened to this audiobook in like one day. 10/10 would recommend.
What a lovely story! This book is beautifully written, and the character development was excellent. This was a fun romance full of humor and lovable characters. I was engrossed from the first page and it ticked all the boxes of my expectations . I would definitely recommend to others.
3.5 stars
A slightly unconventional love story with a lot of laughs and even more tears.
Despite being very unrealistic and having one of my least favorite tropes aka unexpected pregnancy, I still enjoyed the overall journey.
The audio narration was very well done and both the narrators did wonderfully with the storyline and dialogue delivery.
Loved this book! So many cute jokes! Definitely spicy to boot. First accident pregnancy story I’ve read and I throughly enjoyed it! Cant wait for the next in the series
<i>Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake</i> is companion novel to <i>A Brush with Love</i>. These books can be read separately because they do not highlight the same main character. Although each are referenced throughout. Lizzie was introduced as the ditzy friend who is always late and a complete scattered brained. We find out more about her here. It is another story following a character with a disorder. This time, Lizzie is suffering from ADHD. However, this story is a bit farfetched. Pregnant with a stranger who moves from Australia to help her raise the baby. Hmmmm
I loved how well done the pregnancy trope was done with this book. Although Lizzie was a frustrating character at times I really enjoyed how descriptive her adhd was and how it affected how she saw herself and how those around her saw her as well. Rake was a great balance for her and loved watching him show her she is more than negative things she saw in herself.
This book was 10x better than her last! I actually enjoyed the story and characters. It was fun and refreshing!
This book was everything to me. Lizzie and I share so many similar qualities, and it's encouraged me to go talk to my doctor to see if maybe, I'm not too much like I've always been made to seem. I felt so deeply with this book. I can't even put words to how I feel. This book gave me hope. This book gave me life. This book is everything I wanted and everything I needed all wrapped into one. This book easily in my top five reads of 2022. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.
