Sadly, this series no longer appeals to me. Nothing against the author, as I’ve read another of her series and loved it, but this one just isn’t drawing me in. Due to this, I’ll be giving it an the middle score so as not to impact review ratings.

What do you do when you are a single mom in a small tourist town where rentals are sky high? Your mom and dad have both passed away and now you find yourself scattering the ashes of your beloved grandmother. You and your sweet five year old daughter are homeless, and your employer just closed his store, so you are also unemployed. Nessa is in this situation and feels she can rely on the generosity of kind friends for only so long.

She is helping out at Driftwood House, Rosie’s B&B, in an informal exchange for lodging when Gabriel in his suit and tie sweeps into town with plans to demolish “Ghost Village,” including Nessie’s family’s cottage. Nessa scrambles to find a way to stop the plans while still providing for her daughter’s future and happiness.

The story is told from the points of view of Nessa, Gabriel, and Valerie, the mother of Nessa’s ex-husband Jake. Jake is, depending on whom you talk to a star of industry in his new job (Valerie), an unreliable, rarely present or contributing father (Nessa), or a free spirit (Jake). All of the characters have secrets and problems. As they work through them, there are interesting plot twists that arise. Nessa is passionate about her family and their legacy and about doing her best and what is right for her daughter Lily who is an adorable child.

Without indulging in spoilers, I can say that this is a story that became a page turner for me, but not in the sense of a thriller. I became involved in the characters and wanted to see happy endings for them. Like the characters, I could not see how anything nearing bliss could be achieved.

Being a single mum is tough and nobody knows this better than Nessa. Liz Eeles’ The Key to the Last House Before the Sea is a gorgeous, heartwarming and emotional page-turner that held me captive from the moment I started reading it. Liz Eeles writes so well and with such warmth and heart that I couldn’t stop myself from becoming involved and invested in the lives of Nessa, Gabriel and Lily. This book made me laugh, cry and left me feeling uplifted and hopeful.

A gentle, enjoyable and feel-good romantic tale, The Key to the Last House Before the Sea is a highly satisfying read from Liz Eeles.

Back in Heaven’s Cove for the final time and whilst Heaven Cove is the thread that runs through all of these books, they can all be read as standalone novels and the final one is no exception.

Single mum, Nessa and the gorgeous daughter of hers Lily need to find a new place to call home. Her grandmother leaves her a legacy, a key tot eh cottage where she grew up. The cottage now partially derelict in an abandoned village near Heaven’s Cove could be the answer to Nessa’s dreams. Trouble is apparently the land has been bought and the whole place is due for demolition for a more modern project.

Nessa comes face to face with the project manager, a rather uptight Gabriel. Clearly his father’s puppet and perpetually trying to please him rather than do what he wants to do the most – paint. Pushed by his father he is determined to make sure Nessa fails in her quest.

Gabriel has an unlikely ally in Nessa’s ex mother-in-law, Valerie. Determined to have some purpose in life and not admit that her son is unreliable as a son and even more so as a father, she wants to make sure her granddaughter Lily has a better life than Nessa could ever give her.

With everything against her Nessa is going to have to dig deep and find the strength to save herself, her daughter and the family home.

Reflecting on family dynamics, this book puts that into focus and shows that perhaps someone people are misunderstood with their determination to do the right thing by their offspring. Sometimes you have to let them fly to have them come back. What better place to do this than in Heaven’s Cove. A book not just focussing on Nessa and Lily but also what Gabriel and Valerie’s are going through to.

A book where it shows that outsiders and new beginnings need to sometimes be fought for and to have that strength to fight for what they believe in and most importantly what will make them happy. A happy diversion of a book.

An enchanting story of family, loss, and new beginnings.

I enjoyed the characters and the premise. The writing was a bit verbose, and the story was a tad too long; but, overall a comforting and warm story.

Nessa is a woman who knows that family comes first, no matter the sacrifices. She's hardworking and determined to make the best of her life for the sake of her daughter.

Gabriel is a man who has been pushed into his family's business in spite of feeling lost and alone in a world he doesn't feel he belongs in.

Initially, Nessa and Gabriel bring out the worst in each other, but, in time, realize that they're helping each other find what they're really looking for.

The Key to the Last House Before The Sea is a warm and emotional novel. It is the fourth book in Liz Eeles' Heaven's Cove series but would work as a standalone novel.
Nessa is finding life tough at the moment. Her ex is useless and her mother in law is overbearing. Her employer retired and closed the business so she has no work and her grandmother just died. She is shocked to inherit the deeds and a key to a derelict cottage. But this also seems doomed as the area is due to be redeveloped. Whilst staying at a guest house, she meets Gabriel who is a city slicker and reveals that he is the property developer about to destroy her final chance at a fresh start.
There is a wonderful tension between Nessa and Gabriel. He has a softer side which we have knowledge of thanks to the alternating perspectives. His father is domineering and doesn't appreciate what he perceives as weakness. Gabriel's artistic side is crying out to be released and I was keen for Nessa to see his hidden qualities. Both characters need to find the courage to stand up to their family and be confident in themselves.
The scenery is brought to life through vivid descriptions. I was swept up in the story of the main pair but it was also nice to catch up with characters from the previous books. The tone of the book is uplifting as the plot centres around being true to one's self whilst appreciating the natural world, friendships and family.
The Key to the Last House Before The Sea was a wonderful book and may be my new favourite book in the series!

Nessa wants to find a safe home for her and her daughter and when she finds out that she has a right to live in a derelict family home she is desperate to meet the conditions attached to her tenancy.
I was totally drawn into the book imagining that I was there, willing her to make the house a happy home for her and her daughter
I loved the friendships, the begrudging respect she finds for the developers son and the sense of hope that everything will be fine.
I'm delighted to find that this is part of a series and will be keen to seek out the other books. This book read well as a standalone

I really enjoyed returning to Heaven's Cove in Devon. Single mum Nessa grew up in Heaven’s Cove, living the last year with her grandmother. Her grandmother recently died and the landlord is selling the cottage. Not only is she without a home, but she lost her job when the store she worked at was closed when the owner retired and moved away. Nessa is now living at Driftwood House, a guesthouse run by her friend Rosie, but she knows she can't stay there. When her grandmother's landlord gives her a box of her grandmother's belongings that had been left in the cottage, Nessa finds a couple of things that could change her life. He family had lived in a cottage on Sorrel Cove and although it is now a Ghost Village, one cottage is still standing. In the box is a key and lease agreement for that cottage. If she can live there for 30 days and nights, she will have the right to live there for many more years. She finds out that a developer has purchased the land and plans on leveling it and building luxury apartment buildings. Nessa can't let them destroy the ghost village, so moves forward to renovate the cottage and make a home for herself and her five year old daughter Lily. Can she save the cottage? Will her and Lily find a place to call home?

I really enjoyed this story. Nessa is a mama bear. She will do whatever she needs to do to support her daughter, even if it means giving up something that is dear to her. The development company, sends the son of the owner, Gabriel, to check out the area, and he ends up staying at Driftwood House. Of course I figured out how this would all end, but what a story getting there. Lily is a delight and she is able to get Gabriel to loosen up and begin to question what is important in his life. Nessa seems to run into problems everywhere she turns from a deadbeat ex-husband, an ex-mother-in-law, Valerie, who dislikes Nessa and will do anything for Lily, but nothing for Nessa. A development company that wants to destroy her memories and a beautiful area where she finds peace and even her own feelings. Gabriel is conflicted. He dislikes his life in London, all her does is work, but he wants to be loyal to his father, so is caught between a rock and a hard place. The community is the one thing that supports Nessa, her friends and acquaintances are there for her, even when she doubts herself. The setting is wonderfully describes, beautiful and peaceful at times, spooky and atmospheric at others. If there really was a ghost village and Heaven's Cove, it would be on my bucket list of places to visit. Themes of family expectations, blind loyalty, grief, single parent issues, developers and their destruction and community all play a part in this story, and of course, there is a sweet romance. I hope Liz Eeles is not finished with Heaven's Cove and I would love to visit once again and see who else will get a HEA.

Nessa Paulson has had a tough go of things. She’s lost her parents and now with the loss of her beloved Gran, she also lost the home she and her daughter Lily were staying in. Lily’s father has never been reliable so finding somewhere she can afford on her own isn’t going to be easy. When she makes an unexpected discovery when going through her Gran’s things as she clears out the house, she finds there may be a way to stay in the house after all.
Gabriel Gantwitch is in Heaven’s Cove on business for his father. His father intends to clear out all the old houses and build all new condos that people can use on weekends and vacations to enjoy the seaside, which includes the house that Nessa intends to try to stay in. Can Nessa defeat bug business and keep her home on the seaside? Will Gabriel realize that he isn’t happy working for his father and admit his feelings for Nessa?
Although this is the fourth book the the series I didn’t have any trouble not having read the previous ones, though since I enjoyed it as much as I did, I do intend to go back and read them.

The Key to the Last House Before the Sea is the fourth book in the Heaven’s Cove series by Liz Eeles. All the books can easily be read as standalone stories but as the series is so enjoyable you’ll really want to go back and read the previous books. Liz has that ability to make you feel at home in whatever setting she writes about and I am still desperately wishing that Heaven’s Cove was real. It’s a tight knit community where people find solace and comfort and where problems can be shared and worked through. The book opens with a brief but dramatic prologue set in 1946 as a violent storms approaches Sorrel Cove. Several people and houses are lost and the people that remain are deeply affected by what they witnessed and the after effects are felt for many years right up to the present day. Before long Sorrel Cove becomes a ghost town but in the present day this little village has not been forgotten and it may just be the saving grace for our main character Nessa.

Nessa is a single mum to her daughter Lily and right from the first time we meet her the reader can sense she has been through a lot and that the difficult times are still ongoing for her. So much went against her throughout the story and she is very down on herself at times but yet there is a resilience about her and a steely determination that once she sets her mind to something she will see it through to the bitter end no matter if the outcome could potentially not go her way. I loved that Nessa always had Lily and their future at the centre of everything she did. To me it seemed that that choices for what Nessa could do were very limited and if only her ex Jake could get his act together and start paying regular maintenance than Nessa wouldn’t be in such a tricky position. But that seemed unlikely as he barely acknowledged that Lily even existed. But fair play to Nessa she knew she needed to strike out on her own and take matters into her own hands and not rely on a man who was useless and shied away from his responsibilities. Nessa is a character who deserves nothing but admiration and respect and I found myself rooting for her from the get go.

As Nessa scatters her grandmother Rose’s ashes in the abandoned village which changed the fate of Nessa’s family forever she knows this is a turning point for her. She has no place to call home as the landlord is selling the house in which she lived with Ruth and now she has also lost her job as the shop she worked in is now closed and being sold. Nessa is at a very low point and has lost her way. Worry is not a strong enough word to convey the emotions that she is feeling and I felt desperately sorry for her. This wasn’t the way her life was supposed to go. She was meant to have a fulfilling career, a comfortable home and a loving partner and she has none of that. But Lily is her driving force and she won’t give up until she finds some sort of solution to their living crisis. Rosie who runs Driftwood House provides a temporary refuge for Nessa and Lily and it was brilliant to see her feature again as I loved her story which was told in Secrets at the Last House Before the Sea. It’s here that Nessa meets one of the guests Gabriel and this is where the story really took off for me.

Gabriel is a businessman who comes across as uncaring, arrogant and he acts like he can do whatever he wants in particular walk all over people’s emotions. When Nessa hears of his company’s plans to build over the abandoned village she is distraught. It’s her last remaining link to her grandmother and in the absence of a loving supportive family she feels scared and alone and hasn’t anyone real close that she can turn to for advice and ideas. When a box with papers is discovered in Rosie’s old house Nessa fortunes begin to change but in order to reach that end point there is a long journey to go and to me it seemed an insurmountable task. She has to stay in the cottage for thirty days and nights and then it will stay in the family. But the cottage is in an awful state and inhabitable. How can she do this with the odds very much stacked against her? But Nessa needs a home for herself and Lily and her passion and love shine through even if Gabriel and in particular his father are determined that the remains of the village will be knocked to the ground and a new housing development built in its place.

It was obvious that Gabriel and Nessa had that little spark or connection but for the most part they rubbed each other up the wrong way and had false impressions of each other and really you couldn’t blame Nessa for this given that he potentially was going to shatter the last thread she was clinging to in order to get some sort of security for herself and Lily. But really Gabriel, was such an enigma. He had that stern, corporate side to him in that he had to stay rigidly to deadlines and it was almost as if he was afraid of his father and not seeing business opportunities through to their conclusion. But on the other hand, the longer he remained in Heaven’s Cove the more he loosened up and started to see life in a different way. The gentler more creative side of him started to emerge and I really thought that if the businessman bravado could disappear that with the help of Nessa he could really change and become the man he secretly wanted to be. But with so much going against both Nessa and himself with their own personal circumstances I questioned whether a positive outcome for anyone could be reached at all? And as for Nessa’s interfering mother-in-law Valerie well she was someone who I detested for the majority of the book and then when you dig a little deeper I did feel some sympathy for her,

Whether Nessa completes her challenge and finds the security and happy ending she so desperately craves and deserves well you’ll have to read this wonderful book for yourself to discover the answer. I loved how the conclusion was a little bit different from what I had expected given the way certain things were developing during the course of the book. It felt real and believable and it threw an interesting slant on things. There is heartbreak in the story but also moments of hope, courage and strength throughout too that keep you rapidly turning the pages. I really hope this won’t be the last in the series as Heaven’s Cove and all the characters I have met there really have captured a piece of my heart and I want to continue to hear their stories and learn more about them.

Even if I didn't read all the books in this series it was a pleasure to travel back to Heaven's Cove.
I fell in love with the gorgeous cover and loved the sweet story.
It's well plotted and compelling.

Review for 'The Key To The Last House Before The Sea' by Liz Eeles .

This is the fourth book I have read by this author and it is the fourth book in the 'Heaven's Cove' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read the first book in this series 'Secrets At The Last House Before The Sea', the second book in this series 'A Letter To The Last House Before The Sea' and the third book in this series 'The Girl At The Last House Before The Sea' which I also would highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'Perfect for anyone who loves Trisha Ashley, Debbie Macomber and Jean Grainger'. I am a huge fan of Debbie Macomber so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a fan of Liz and if this is half as good as 'Secrets At The Last House Before The Sea', 'A Letter To The Last House On Before The Sea' and 'The Girl At The Last House Before Sea' it is sure to be a great read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 40 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Devon, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture. I have actually visited Devon on several occasions so am looking forward to see if I recognise anywhere.

This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Nessa, Valerie and Gabriel. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

Love, love, LOVE this stunning series!! Well done Liz you have done it yet again!!! Another absolutely stunningly written book whose vivid descriptions completely arrested my attention. I could feel the sand in my toes and the wind in my hair. The cover and synopsis suited the storyline perfectly.

I absolutely LOVE the Heaven's Cove series and Heavens Cove has become an absolutely stunning escape for me. I always look forward to seeing Liz's next book come out as I know it's time to mentally pack my suitcase and set off for a stunning holisay surrounded by an absolutely fantastic community!! This book is a perfect summer read filled with mystery, romance, deceit, love, family, secrets and is perfect for anyone looking for an escape. I was absolutely hooked from page one until 2.30am in the morning when I finished having not being able to put it down. The overall atmosphere worked perfectly with the storyline and I felt myself surrounded by the sea and sounds of Devon and most definitely wanting to go back. The plot was very realistic making it all very easy to picture. It's hard to say too much about the storyline that's not in the description and that won't give too much away. It is such an easy smooth read though that you can read curled up in front of a fire or laying on a sunbed at the beach. I am so glad the way it all turned out and for me it ended perfectly. I am also pleased to say that the ending wasn't what I was expecting which is a lovely bonus as I enjoy being surprised so well done again Liz!! An absolutely stunning book that would make an absolutely gorgeous movie!!!

Although this is the fourth book in the series I had would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

An absolutely stunning page turner that will completely captivate your heart and mind from beginning to end.

I was completely invested in Nessa, Valerie and Gabriel's characters and I enjoyed seeing what was going on from each of their very different perspectives. I also absolutely loved meeting some of the characters from Haven Cove. These characters have become like friends to me through the four gorgeous books in this series and I always love "meeting" them again and seeing what they have been getting up to. The characters are all vivid, strong and realistic and I loved the community surrounding the area. The author captured a typical village lifestyle perfectly. I loved getting to know Nessa, Valerie and Gabriel along with meeting Liam, Rose and several of the other lovely characters again. It was great watching how all the characters developed and bonded throughout the book and I think some of them will stay with me for a long time. It's always great seeing strong female leads in books and Nessa was definitely memorable!! I did miss Belinda in this book although she was mentioned, strange as I couldn't stand her when I met her but she has definitely grown on me through this series so hopefully she will be in the next gorgeous adventure at Heavens Cove. If not then it will stay be an amazing read as this has been with May amazing characters I will definitely miss until the next success!!

Congratulations Liz on yet another addictive, stunningly beautiful book. This is exactly why you are one of my favourite authors and I cannot wait to read the next book in this stunning series as well as checking out your other books. Here I'd to this and your next guaranteed success!! 🥂

Returning to Heaven's Cove in Devon feels a bit like going back home now.
This is the fourth book in the series and, as well as the previous ones, can be read as a stand-alone, but the nice feeling of being back in this idyllic and picturesque setting is priceless.
Another beautiful instalment by Liz Eeles, I can't wait to read the next one!

This story made me swoon! It's a heartwarming story about one's woman's dedication and devotion to her child as she navigates the difficult landscape of her life. We come into the story as Nessa is reeling from the loss of her grandmother - a storyline I can easily relate to as I lost both of my grandmothers over the past few years. As we follow the grief-stricken Nessa, we learn about how she's a single mother with a basically absent father for their daughter, five-year-old Lily, she's homeless and she's without income after the shop she worked in closed. Down on her luck barely scratches the surface of the point Nessa is at in her life.

Her resilience and drive to provide for her daughter amidst the situation she finds herself grabbling with is commendable and Liz Eeles does a wonderful job of making it believable for the reader.

Gabriel comes across as the stereotypical all-businessman but we get glimpses of the sweet and artistic soul lurking beneath the surface. As Nessa found herself falling for Gabriel, so did I! I loved watching these two go from enemies to lovers, and I could keep reading their story.

This is Book 4 of the Heaven's Cove series, though each book can be read as a standalone! This is my first one and I am definitely going back to read the rest!

I loved this book and Liz Eeles books are such a joy to read.

I was hooked from the beginning and read this book and it kept me turning the pages to find out what happens next. Nessa, a single mother who grieving, for her beloved grandmother, but she wants to do her best for her Lily, her daughter.

She hopes that making the repairs to her Grandmother’s home, will save the villages from being crushed in order to build new houses. The developer expects Gabriel, his son, to stop Nessa from ensuring what she wants to happen.

Highly recommend this book.

Nessa is a single mum, and she has inherited a stone cottage from her grandmother. The cottage isn’t in the best condition and it needs a lot of work. The walls are crumbling and the inside needs some care as well. This could be the perfect home for her and her daughter Lily, and the small quaint village of Heaven’s Cove would be perfect for them. Soon Gabriel Gantwich arrives at the door and hands Nessa papers claiming his father’s company owns the house and their plans to knock it down. Nessa is furious and has to complete all the renovations of the cottage within thirty days. Gabriel is not any easy person to get along with and they argue over every detail. But then Nessa’s life changes in an instant when she receives a phone call about Lily. Nessa and Gabriel must decide what is most important, preserving Nessa’s family history or Lily’s future.

I was so excited to be returning to Heaven’s Cove. This tiny picturesque village is such a wonderful escape. I love the way the author paints such a vivid description of the amazing Heaven’s Cove. This story was captivating, heart-warming, and heart breaking. I found this story to be inspirational, uplifting and utterly delightful. I found myself crying from the very beginning which kept me absolutely hooked. I loved the flow of the story and it had me flying through the pages. I felt a personal connection to the believable characters in this story, and I felt the entire story was well thought out, progressed perfectly and the ending was very satisfying. This book was an amazing addition to the series, and I definitely recommend it.

The Key to the Last House Before the Sea (Heaven's Cove Book 4) by Liz Eeles is an excellent story of being down on your luck but yet hope finds you. That last house in Ghost Village before the sea is not only providing hope for Nessa Paulson but in some strange way for Gabriel Gantwich too.

I have never met characters that needed saving more than Nessa and Gabriel. Nessa because she is poor financially while Gabriel is so poor in spirit. I kept reading to see these two duke it out, believing when the fight over the cottage had finished, love would be found. I never dreamed how it would all work out in the end for the Ghost Village. I will only say it is a rough start for these two with so several others getting involved too. The conclusion is wonderful, not too rushed, and totally believable. I wish it was a true story instead of fiction so that I could start planning my trip to village of Heaven’s Cove to see the Ghost Village too.

I highly recommend this book to all.

This book is part of the Heaven's Cove series. It can be read as a standalone novel. Driftwood House and Rosie feature heavily in this book, but the other villagers only have cameo roles. Nessa and Gabriel are the protagonists in this book, both new characters.
This is a very emotional read in places, Nessa is such a lovely character, who is in a very desperate situation. Although there was a lot of heartbreak, there were also plenty of heartwarming and uplifting moments too.
Heaven's Cove is an idyllic sounding place. I would definitely visit there if it was a real place. Sorrel Cove sounds fascinating too. I have seen a few derelict and abandoned villages in the South West of The U.K. They are very interesting but also very sad. Liz Eeles captured the atmosphere perfectly. The book is very well written, and set the scene very well.
I love this series so much and I would love it if there are more books in this series. If not, I am really looking forward to reading Liz Eeles next book. Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.
