I like this book. I love the author and I am reading more of her books. I’m so glad she provided this book to me so that I could find a wonderful author to follow. Quite frustrating at times and problem tenants that was a little difficult to read. Part of the story however thank you Netgalley for providing this audiobook advance copy to me. for

Mike and Nadia, with their young daughter, are Hannah’s new visitors at her beloved barn that was recently restored and set as a holiday rental. Shortly after their arrival, Hannah begins to dislike the couple. But the worst is yet to come.

I have not been disappointed by Miranda Rijks's novels yet, and this new read is quite enthralling. Ignorant, rude, and inadequate tenants are the host's worst nightmare. Mike and Nadia are falling under the listed categories. And it only gets worst. It is very easy to tell from the plot of the novel that the visitors are here with an ulterior motive. Their hidden agenda is revealed towards the end of the novel, and the twists it comes with are worthwhile. And finally, the last chapter... I could have not thought of a better ending for Hannah.

Overall it is a great fast pace book. I would recommend it to readers who enjoy light thriller novels. It would make a great end-of-summer beach read.

Thank you, NetGalley for a free and advanced copy of the novel.

Ever consider running your own Airbnb? You’ll likely abandon those rosy thoughts after reading this book!

Hannah is a stay at home mom, raising her two kids. Her husband is a cardiac surgeon always busy…lately much too busy for his family.

So to keep herself busy and fulfill a lifelong dream, Hannah converts their barn into a posh vacation rental.

And, oh joy! Enter the renters from hell. Mike, Nadia and their young daughter settle into the rental. By the weeks end they dig in, refusing to vacate.

Soon this dream of Hannah’s quickly descends into a deadly nightmare!

I must admit, my anxiety increased as the visitors' behavior became more bizarre and unsettling. I so wanted to help Hannah, since no one else seemed to want to step in.

Overall a fun, rapid-fire thriller. My second book (audio) by Miranda Rijks and will certainly be keeping an eye out for more of her works!

Hmmm, this was tough.
It wasn't bad.
It wasn't good.
The prologue to this book totally bumped this down to a 2.5, it does not fit with the rest of the book. I even went back several times to try to make sense of it. Maybe Rijks had to meet some kind of page minimum?

We meet Hannah and woman desperate to have some independence from her controlling husband, Daniel. Daniel is a cardiac surgeon, and a world class jerk. As a reader of Thrillers red flags were raised about what kind of guy he really is at the very start. Stays overnight away from Hannah and the kids for "work, drinks alot, cusses and has a short temper. Hannah on the other hand is that frustrating character that won't stand up for what is right and just accepts Daniel for what he is. She does open up their barn to be used as an Air BnB deal to bring in some of her own income.
She gets guest from hell.
This is where the book gets...ridiculous? Juvinielle? Preposterous?
The guest WAY over step their boundaries. Pretty much destroying the property, intruding into Hannah's home, insisting that they stay longer than what they had originally booked because the husband injured himself on the property. [Did she not set up legal documents? Hello....] The "Visitors" also changed the lock on the guest home....again grounds for eviction.

The visitors are Mike and Nadia and their daughter Kayleigh. Mike is well, an idiot. Rijks even writes him that way, it frustrates me when authors make such shallow characters straight out of a made for TV slasher movie. Nadia, like Hannah, is a total "lame duck". Nadia is clearly being physically abused while Hannah is being verbally and emotionally abused.
As Mike and Nadia's stay becomes more and more intrusive and Mike and Daniel get into a fight. Mike ends up dead. Who did it?
Lots of different people with motivations here.
Nadia-the abused wife
Kayleigh-The Creepy daughter
Mike-Drunk idiot...maybe it was suicide
Hannah-Did she reach her breaking point
Daniel-Short tempered, shady past ?

AS Hannah begins to dig, and do some typical B rated sleuthing, the reader pretty much knows what the ending will be. And yup! I guessed it. No surprises here.

This is my second book by this author, the other one "The New Neighboors" was a bit better than this one.
Will I read another? Maybe?

If you can make sense of the prologue I would greatly appreciate your explanation because I cannot

Thank you Netgalley for this advanced copy read. I was not paid for this honest review.

Other than giving private piano lessons, Hannah has mostly given up her music to be is a busy stay at home mom to her 2 children. Her husband, Daniel, is an often absent cardiac surgeon. Hannah convinces Daniel to allow her to open a holiday cottage on their property. Something she’s always wanted to do and something to keep her busy while the kids are in school. When things go awry with a family occupying the cottage, life for the family begins to unravel. Hannah deals with this by showing true grit and perseverance while on the verge of losing everything.
At first, I thought I was reading about shallow and privileged characters. However, author Miranda Rijks, did a stellar job adding depth and interest to Hannah. It was unexpected and made me really enjoy the book! Fast paced and easy to read, I highly recommend!

“An easy life doesn’t necessarily equate with a happy one.”

We have a MC, Hannah who is in an unhappy married mother of 2. She is running a side hustle in the barn on her husband’s property where people can go on holiday. Her husband Daniel doesn’t like the idea and tends to make her feel small and insignificant.

Then there are The Visitors…I’m just like these people are obnoxious and incredibly rude…when will it end?! You never change the locks on someone else’s house. You know how mad 😡 I’d be if I had a rental property and someone did that all nonchalant like it’s no biggie and then I wasn’t provided with a key!!!!? You’ll end up disliking the this couple too.

Then there’s Hannah’s husband, Daniel…he’s a real piece of work too. He wants her to fail at the holiday barn house project. Poor Hannah.

Overall, this was a decent read. It had a lot of moving parts and I’d say it was about 100 pages too long. Parts of the middle probably could’ve been trimmed down a bit. I really enjoyed how the author ended the story.

I definitely recommend checking this one out.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advanced audiobook.

I loved the twist at the end and the FINALLY someone gets what they deserve moment. Hannah (main character) was weak and got run over most of the book until the end when she finally started putting in work to figure out what was going on. I was getting very annoyed that the “visitors” were squatting in her rental property and she was pretty much just letting it happen!! **spoiler >>>>>**

I get there were threats of them suing and I wish she asked for proof of the injury they were claiming. I saw it coming that it was all made up.

The premise sounded good, and the first third of the book was alright. As the characters showed more of themselves I had a dejavu memory. Once it seemed I was on the right track with the visitors, I focused my thoughts on the primary family, and entered familiar territory.

I have a problem with a mousy character suddenly becoming Wonder Woman, out of no where. Without spoiling, this particular scene just didn't make sense (A round hole does not fit a square peg.). It was not believable realistically. The main character is portrayed as simple until the last third of the book, and finds herself solving complex equations. Okay, not exactly; however, she didn't exhibit any problem solving skills until the end.

There is a monumental twist I didn't see coming, didn't expect, and was so overjoyed by the author's choice I did tear up. High praise for the author and the road she chose.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for accepting my request to read and review The Visitors.

This book was just okay for being deemed a "gripping psychological thriller". The plot wasn't strong enough for me and I wish it got a little creepier with Nadia and Mile doing a bit more than just refusing to leave and changing the locks in the airbnb, but it did have a touch of suspense.

I also found Hannah's character to be a beat weak as well. I wish she would have stood up to her husband Daniel every once in a while but it definitely painted the picture of what an awful husband Daniel actually was in the end.

The ending, however was a feel good one and the bad guys had it coming that's for sure!

I found myself getting extremely frustrated with the MC character in this one. I think I'm seriously over the weak, helpless, spineless women who let others walk all over them and belittle them and abuse them and constantly let others take advantage of them. And our MC here, Hannah, was the biggest victim. The narrator did a great job, but overall the story didn't draw me in.

A huge thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this ARC.

Shout out to Netgalley for the opportunity to review the audiobook. I rounded up from 3.5 stars. The narrator did a great job with Hannah's voice, but I didn't care too much for the voices she portrayed of the other character's.
I felt there were parts of the story that were very improbable and unbelievable. At times I wanted to reach out and slap Hannah for being so passive.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance reader audio copy of this book. This is an excellent thriller with characters you love to hate throughout. Narrator was good and easy to understand.

Maybe it’s just me, but this was too anxiety producing for me. Oddly, it was also boring. There were no likable characters. I just could not get into it for all those reasons. Had to dnf.
Narrator seemed fine but the story was just not for me.

This was a fast and enjoyable read that took me on quite the ride! Engaging, unputdownable, unpredictable, and compelling, I was captivated from the beginning all the way to the very end. The twists and turns made for a well-plotted story with a remarkable ending that completely caught me off-guard and took me by surprise. This is my second book by this author and I look forward to diving into more of her work.

As the story begins a wife needs to have ownership of her own. She opens a guesthouse called the barn on the family property. Her first guests arrive and soon begin over stepping, and cause mayhem in the house. While the guest are deviously planning on staying on a murder takes place and soon the hunt for the killer begins.

This is a fast paced read with so many things that will turn your stomach as people are just unbelievable. Hannah is a well-off wife and mother of two children and seemingly doesn't have any problems in her life other than getting her lifelong dream on it's feet which is a high-end holiday rental cottage. She has only rented it out once and now she is fully prepared for her next guests. This is an expensive rental so she is a little caught off guard when the family arrive in an old beat-up car and their appearance leaves a lot to be desired but she knows she shouldn't be judgmental and if they have the money to pay for all this luxury then there shouldn't be any problems. The cottage is rented for a week and then a new party will arrive and Hannah just wants to get good. reviews so this will become a flourishing business especially since her husband considers this a hobby for her and not a real money maker so she wants to prove her business sense to her husband as well as herself. The first day starts a little rocky but when problems keep occurring day after day and the family is turning the cottage into a pigsty, Hannah just wants them gone. Suddenly, an unexpected accident occurs that they are placing the blame on Hannah and they will have to extend their stay and Hannah is just beside herself with anger and anxiety but also trapped by this manipulative couple that are beginning to suffocate the life out of her and the relationship between her husband and herself is getting very strained yet Hannah keeps hoping things will quickly be over and maybe they will but not in the way Hannah ever expected as her life turns into a downward spiral and she wonders if she will ever be free again. This book will definitely make you think twice about renting out a piece of your property. My heart went out to Hannah and all her struggles and drama. While having to deal with a husband who was rarely around, who put her down all the time, and having to deal with these ungrateful threatening visitors, life was not easy. The Visitors was a really enjoyable and addictive read. I was gripped from beginning to end. Many thanks to the author, Inkubator books and Netgalley.

Hannah and Daniel seem to have an ideal life. He is a successful surgeon. She teaches piano part time and has converted their barn into a luxury vacation rental. She is hoping this will help keep her occupied, as her husband is away often for work.

Enter the Jones family, Mike, Nadia and their daughter, Kayleigh. They have rented the barn and seem friendly and wanting to get to know Hannah and her family. But what happens when your temporary rental tenants won't leave and end up as the neighbors from hell?

I don't want to give any spoilers, but the Jones' complaints and issues spiral out of control, leaving Hannah feeling threatened and as if she has lost control. Can she get them out? What will happen in the meantime? A strange, compelling story that kept me on the edge of my seat!.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape media for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Visitors by Miranda Rijks is a smartly written, cleverly plotted, psychological thriller!
The perfect little family—Dr. Daniel Peters, his wife Hannah, and their two children—have moved to an idyllic rural home, and Hannah renovates a barn on the property as a posh, pricey holiday rental. When messy, rough renters, Mike and Nadia, arrive, Hannah begins to experience the innkeeper’s nightmare of disrespectful, sloppy guests, and complications quickly arise. The visitors trash the interior of the rental, change the locks, and get a puppy outside of the rental agreement. Needless to say, Hannah is distraught, her husband is impatient, and problems crop up around every corner.
Rijks’ storytelling is top notch. There are great twists and excellent character development. I cheered for Hannah, while at the same time I chided her naivete’ and obeisance to Dr. Daniel. The suspense builds relentlessly and kept me engaged in the complex plot and surprising conclusion.
I very much enjoyed the audiobook. Narrator Penelope Rawlins had excellent inflection and delivery.
I am happy to highly recommend this domestic psychological thriller from Miranda Rijks.
