Thank you for this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I was attracted to “Booked On a Feeling” based on the title and the cover, as I am a lover of all things books! The plot synopsis was super cute as well. This book didn’t disappoint me, either: I enjoyed the romance that blossomed between Lizzy and Jack! Also, romance readers don’t see many main characters that are Asian, so I appreciated the diversity.

Cute, but generic. I enjoyed the story but it felt like a lot of other books. Thanks for the chance to read and review.

Loved the title, and loved the story just as much! Moving to a small town and fixing up a bookstore is the absolute dream. It’s renovations and books combined, my two favorite things. Those scenes were my favorites!

Jack and Lizzy’s romance was so sweet. I love decades-long secret pining, especially when the friendship is just as fun to read as the romance.

The one thing that felt a little awkward was the jump between Lizzy working so hard to make partner, winning her first case, should be feeling great–and then deciding to leave it behind. I’m no stranger to feeling burnt out at work and longing for a simpler job, but the pacing there felt off.

I had no idea this was a part of a series until I went to mark it as read on Goodreads. I was wondering why the epilogue suddenly made it seem like we knew who Tara and Seth were more than in passing, so that answers that question. I’m excited to read the previous books now!

Audio Review: Narrated by Cindy Kay. Her voice was a great fit for these characters, and I loved listening to this cute story!

The book starts with Lizzy who is a lawyer, having a panic attack on one of her cases. So she decides to take a few weeks off and go visit her best friend, Jack, in a town called Weldon. Firstly, when the book starts, I felt like I was already behind. Like the two characters are not only best friends already, but each one is already in love with the other. Maybe it's just me but I just feel like I couldn't grasp their connection since it was already there. Secondly, the ending was kind of a let down. (Spoilers) I mean they have one fight (again after being friends for two decades) and then they don't speak to each other for two months AND they just immediately break up? It just felt very sudden and just kind of thrown in there. The middle seemed like a lot of fluff, but I did enjoy reading some of their interactions.

This book had such a great premise but I did not enjoy it at all. I pretty much forced myself through the entire thing and had to speed up the narration so much throughout the book just so I could get through it. Lizzy and Jack were cute and I think it ended well but that was pretty much all I liked about it.

This is such an amazing book! It follows Lizzy, an overworked lawyer, and her childhood best friend Jack, who’s looking for his passion. The way this book depicts anxiety and burnout is incredibly relatable and accurate! I love the way that the relationship between Lizzy and Jack developed was so sweet and inspiring!

This was boring and sooooo cliché, I saw literally everything coming and all I did was roll my eyes for the entire duration of the novel

This was a sweet book. It was not my favorite. This is the first book of this Author I’ve read. I liked it enough.

Audiobook Review:
For the audiobook itself, I was not a fan of the female narrator narrating when we got the male MC POV and really wish they would have used a male narrator for his parts as I felt the way it was done just wasn’t to my personal liking of going back and forth in POV with the single narrator.

For the plot/book content this one gives you a high achiever burning out and running away from her work and responsibilities to try to find her happiness after winning a trial and having no joy come of that win.

When she returns to the small town that she grew up in she starts to find her happy working in a bookstore and helping to get it fixed up and to a point to thrive instead of surviving. As she is doing this, she is reconnected with her childhood friend and they teeter between the will they - won’t they get together that comes with weighing the pros and cons of exploring more with a strong friendship first and foremost.

While teetering they lack communication skills that ultimately gives some miscommunication trope vibes that leaves you wondering- is it worth the risk to attempt to be more than friends and take a risk on love?

You will have to read to find out is what will be the reason for her happy and will she find in a small town?

I didn't really like the first book in this series, but I decided to give this one a chance because of the book store angle. I'm a sucker for a book that revolves around books, reading or bookstores.

I think I liked this one a bit more because of the books, the relationship between the main characters and the growth of Lizzy during the book. I can't imagine it's easy to leave the only career you've known but even harder would be to tell your strict Asian parents.

I also like a friendship to lovers trope where everyone else besides them know they are meant to be together. This book definitely redeemed the series/this author a bit for me.

Booked on a feeling
By Jayci Lee
⭐⭐⭐⭐🌑 (3.5)

I really enjoyed this book. I will forever have a weak spot for books about books and book lovers. I loved this sweet Romcom.

I can sympathize with Lizzy and feeling burned out and overwhelmed. The need to be perfect and the need to prove your worth is anxiety inducing. I get that so much!! This book was adorable. I just wish there was a bit more umph to it. There was just a surface level cuteness. I wanted more. I was rooting for them in the end, though! And I really did enjoy that ending. I do love a good HEA.

Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC copy of this audio book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This book was so sweet! I loved that the romance takes place against the backdrop of an independent book store and both Jack and Lizzie love reading! The connection to reading and books was great and made me love this book even more.

I got easily lost in multiple character storylines and it’s just possible I wasn’t paying attention. There wasn’t anything wrong with this cute romance. I just wasn’t feeling it at the time and that’s ok. Maybe one day I’ll pick it up and enjoy it much more!

This was a fun and sweet romcom. I enjoyed the friends to lovers trope and the second chance romance squeezed in at the end. I think the miscommunication or lack of communication between Lizzy and Jack was a little long. I listened to the audio book and felt it was well done. The characters were endearing and the storyline moved at a good pace. Overall, I really enjoyed this book! Thank you!

Lizzy has just won her first court case and is now well on her way to making partner. She should have been on top off the world, but instead she doesn’t really feel anything. She decides to take a three week vacation, heading to the small town where her best friend Jack lives, hoping to clear her head and regain her focus. There she makes friends with the owner of a local bookstore and volunteers to help her fix the place up. Jack has been in love with Lizzy for decades, he’s always been there for her but afraid to tell her how he really feels for fear of screwing up their friendship. As they spend more time together, with Jack helping Lizzy as she helps the bookstore owner, their feelings begin to slip out and friendship blossoms into something more. Booked on a Feeling is than than just a cute friends to lovers rom-com, it’s also a little journey of self-discovery. Cindy Kay does a really good job with the narration. Thanks to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for allowing me to listen to an advanced copy of the audio recording of Booked on a Feeling.

Booked on a Feeling will have the song "hooked on a feeling" stuck in your head. Unfortunately, that's the only thing about the book that may stick.

Lizzie is a lawyer that has just won her big case, after passing out in court from an anxiety attack. Needing a break, she decides to take a three week vacation atop a indie bookstore. Of course, her best friend, Jack, also lives in the area. Jack wants Lizzie for himself, to be more than just friends. Helping her out at the bookstore, he makes a pact to try seeing where their chemistry sparks take them. Will both J and L be able to book their feelings front and center?

I enjoyed the setting of an independent bookstore and the idea that Lizzie would take a break to fight her anxiety. However; her anxiety quickly takes the backstage as well as her true purpose of finding herself. The relationship between Jack and Lizzie, although sweet, lacked character development and veered more towards week details. The narrator paused throughout the story and that allowed this not to flow like the author may have meant.

Booked on a Feeling is the third book in Jayci Lee's Sweet Mess series, and I think it's the best yet. Best friends-to-lovers, he falls first, dual POV, horny mutual pining, I could go on and on...

Lizzy is a high-powered lawyer from LA with anxiety on the cusp of realizing her dream of making partner. Her best friend of 20+ years, Jack Park, lives 4 hours away in the small town of Weldon where they grew up, but have remained close over the years. He's been secretly in love with her over the years, but won't make a move, worrying about losing her and their friendship entirely. When she suffers a panic attack during a trial, Lizzy decides a few weeks of rest and relaxation in Weldon with Jack is exactly what she needs to recharge. Jack's been secretly looking for a new business analyst position at a company in LA, after years of feeling unfulfilled working at his family's brewery and hoping to move closer to Lizzy. Spending as much time as possible together, the pair's chemistry is quickly obvious, and they begin a whirlwind affair "as a trial" while she's still in town. When Lizzy starts working at the town bookstore, and feels more at home and content then ever, she questions whether or not she should be returning to her career back in the city when she could stay in town with Jack, while Jack is trying to figure out how to continue what he and Lizzy started when they both end up in LA. But with Lizzy staying in Weldon, and Jack determined to start his new life in LA, can they make things work?

The narrator Cindy Kay is new to me, and I was pleasantly surprised by her soothing voice. There were a few points in the book that the cadence seemed just a little off, but overall a really nice performance.

I feel like this book is more likely to appeal to people who generally enjoy the friends-to-lovers trope more than myself; it take a lot for this trope to take me pleasantly by surprise, so while I did enjoy this for the most part, I wasn't blown away by it. I did appreciate the mutual pining and yearning and the fear of breaking something that had been so precious for some long, but ultimately the romance development was simply too allo for my little ace self to be fully on board.
I thought the setting was what was the shining jewel of this - there is something and familiar about a small town setting and its charming little businesses. I am also, of course, partial to a bookshop that needs to be fixed and thus may become a local safe haven.
I thought the development of our two love interests as individuals was great ( particularly in the way it did something new and interesting with the small town/big city dynamic), and the resolution was loyal to the characters as we've grown to know them (althought, perhaps due to the focus and perspective, we get to see less of the male love interest's journey for the first half of the book than I would have preferred).
A quick, fun read, but not quite a newfound favourite.
As always, Cindy Kay does a fantastic job narrating.

Where do people go after being best friends for so long? There’s no question as to whether or not jack has been smitten for Lizzie. But will he act on his feelings or continue his friendship in fear of the unknown?
