This book was A LOT of fun! I was really excited when I saw the cover on NetGalley (who provided me a copy in exchange for an honest review) - I haven't read a lot of middle grade fiction featuring Japanese stories, so this was really exciting! Momo is a character who is loveable and so easy to root for, and her adventures in trying to save her Mom and also the world were thrilling. Sugiura tells the story flawlessly, weaving hints about what's to come throughout that make a re-read extremely fun. It also sounds like this will be a series - I'm definitely looking forward to the next one! Momo's adventures will be at the top of my recommendations when it's published. I'm so excited to share her story with my patrons!

Thank you Netgalley and Random House Children's for providing an arc in exchange for a review.

The book begins off with Momo on her 12th birthday, when she “imagines” a fox as well as many other things others can’t see (of which some were from the myths her mother told her) and is ridiculed for it - only to find out that it was real all along. Just when she thinks anything couldn’t be more unbelievable, she finds out that her mom has secrets of her own and is in danger, and only Momo has the ability to save her. The story follows her adventure as she travels around fighting demons.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. The characters were developed and portrayed well, and I enjoyed the Japanese myths that were included in this story. This was a quick read that I would definitely recommend for children.

I recieved this eARC free of charge so I could read and review this book. Thank you for the opportunity.

One of the best things about Rick Riordan is that his books opened a door for other "tween/teen discovers that many, many inexplicable things about their life have an explanation rooted in traditional cultural lore. In this novel, the protagonist, Momo Arashima, discovers that the Shinto legends that her mother has been telling her since early childhood, and the occasional things she has seen that others do not, are real.

This is an excellent book both for those who love fantasy and those who enjoy mythology, religion, and cultural anthropology. Having a female protagonist is a nice plus. Avid readers will appreciate the detail, depth, and length of this novel. This book will be a wonderful addition to school and community libraries and classrooms, and would be a great work to use for comparison/contrast writing within a single genre and for literary analysis.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. Overall I enjoyed reading this book but there were a few times Momo’s whining got to me. I enjoyed reading about the various Japanese myths along with the types of gods and demons. I like that the book also has the pronunciation guide and info about the mythological characters. Another great , action packed mythology book!

Thank you Netgalley and publisher for an ARC of Momo Arashima .

Hilarious ,action packed MG fantasy that seamlessly blends Japanese mythology with urban California . The witty banter and edge -of- my -seat adventure left me impatient for the sequel . Highly recommended for fans of Aru shah and The Dragon Warrior
