The hottest bachelor on tv or your childhood best friend? How could one ever choose? That is exactly what happens in this teen relationship drama. To make the choice even more complicated, now try adding figuring out your real feelings all while having every bit of drama air live for a tv show. This book is just entertaining and fun.
This was such a swoon worthy and sweet romance. I love a good friends to lovers story and I loved Liam and Sloane. They are so cute! If you love the Bachelor Franchise, you are going to love this one. I can’t wait to read more from this author. I enjoyed it a lot! The writing was also hilarious. Highly recommend.
Thank you NetGalley and Delacorte Press for this kind ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Sloan and Liam have best friends forever but haven't seen each other in forever. When Sloan flies out to California to spend the summer with Liam before her senior year, thinking they will have the best summer ever.
Things change when she learns that Liam got a job being the pa on his dads new reality show he is producing about a chance to date a teen heartthrob. Soon after, Sloan gets reeled in as a last minute contestant of the show.
First, I love Sloan and Liam characters and watching their relationship grow. However, the whole reality show thrown in there to cause drama and a slow burn between the to leads, I couldn't just wrap my heads round being realistic. I really wanted to enjoy this book, but it just wasn't for me.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Cute read! A little slow to start, but flew through it after the halfway mark. At first it was hard to connect with any characters and I kind of wish there was more charm to Aspen that wasn’t so clearly phony, to make the reader *want* to believe him. Or if this had only been from one POV then the end would have been more of a twist.
Overall though, cute YA romance and fun concept of a teen reality show!
This was such a great premise! I love the friends to lovers trope and Ms Hill killed it, with fantastic writing and fun dialogue! I really enjoyed the characters and I love LA...so that made it all the more fun. The beach, the perfect house, the handsome heart-throb and the friendship of the gorgeous guy friend...all good things. I only had an issue with the language. But that being said, I still kept reading and that says a lot for the authorship of this book! Enjoy!
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Children’s, Delacorte Press for this eARC.
This story was so much fun. I was immediately rooting for Sloane. She’s spunky, driven, and the type of girl I would have loved to have been friends with in my younger years. Liam, like so many other book boyfriends, won me over gradually. Then he did something and I was completely swept away. I really did not want the story to end and was/ am sad that it did.
A friends to lovers romance on the set of a Bachelor franchise? GOD YES. Kaitlyn Hill writes such great relationships, especially those with a bit of a slow burn. I loved Sloane and Liam's friendship - they slowly realize that they've got some FEELS and it feels so true to life. Oh and it's also HILARIOUS. Seeing a friends to lovers from 2 PoVs is perfection because you can see the mutual longing, and it's even better when you get to listen to it. Not to mention that this is just such a sweet YA romance, focused wholly on friendship and finding your own happiness. Very cute, very fast read, highly recommend.

an Excellent romance novel. Comedic and dramatic. Truly one for the books... Pun intended. Not here to stay friends surpassed all my expectations. Kaitlyn Hill truly has a gift when it comes to telling stories. She will most definitely be on my must-buy list in the future. Thank you Netgalley for giving me a chance to read this wonderful book!
This book, I think, would actually be really great for a younger young adult. It has that cuteness and fun set-up. And often, that is enough to woo me into falling for it's adorableness - but I really couldn't connect with this one.
I think that it just felt too young. And while there were moments that made me smile, it wasn't enough to get me to truly invest and the connection isn't what I'm searching for right now. It didn't work for me, but it wasn't a BAD book. I do think that it would work very well for true young adult readers.
Two teen best friends end up on a teen bachelor like dating show. I just could not get into this book. Probably because it was based on and I felt written for teenagers. It was hard for me to relate to the characters and the storyline. But I do appreciate the ability to preview this book and the opportunity to receive the ARC copy
3.5 stars
This YA rom-com follows Sloane who visits her childhood friend for the first time in years, only to discover that a) he's grown up... and b) she will be the last-minute addition to a dating show revolving around an actor in one of her favorite shows. This was told from both perspectives, and I loved seeing the mutual pining between Sloane and Liam throughout the book. The dating show element was fun, but until the end there wasn't much of the drama that one expects from a reality dating show, which was a bit disappointing. Toward the end things picked up, but for the most part all the girls got along and the only drama was between Sloane and one contestant, and then her inner turmoil over Liam vs. Aspen. The lack of drama--which is kind of what one expects from a plot like this--is why I didn't *love* this book, but if you're looking for a low-angst, childhood-friends-to-lovers love triangle in Hollywood, I think you'll really enjoy it!
I’ll be upfront and say I’ve never watched The Bachelor, but I have an idea of how the premise works. Even so, that didn’t hamper my enjoyment of Not Here To Stay Friends by Kaitlyn Hill and I even enjoyed it more than her debut but let’s get into what it’s about.
Sloane and Liam have been best friends since they were kids and now they’re spending the summer together after being apart for five years. Sloane stayed in Tennessee while Liam moved to Los Angeles after his parents divorced. While their friendship stayed strong, being around each other again has started to stir up some feelings but that’s not all.
Upon getting to LA, Sloane is cast in a reality dating show called Aspen Woods’s Future Leading Lady featuring the actor of Sloane’s favorite show, The Cove while Liam is a production assistant on the show. If you’re into romances with a little bit of drama and mess, then you’re in for a treat with this one.
Not Here to Stay Friends had a bit of everything for my fellow romance lovers. There was Sloane and Liam not realizing their feelings for each other and the little twinges of jealousy on the page. There was some practice kissing along with them not being able to deal with not talking to each other. It all culminated in such a lovely romance between Sloane and Liam which I’m sure you could have guessed.
While I adored the romance, I also enjoyed how Kaitlyn Hill explored topics about reality shows including the staging of things, how everything is played up for the camera, and how it can shape a narrative around one person. While there was one character who could have been villainized, she never took that route and instead, made sure that character understood why they were wrong.
Not Here To Stay Friends unsurprisingly had great friendships. Aside from Sloane and Liam, we also saw the girls within the show become friends. All in all, this was a great YA story but it wasn’t perfect as the last 25% felt just a bit over-the-top. However, that’s how The Bachelor can be so maybe it’s just my problem.
Either way, I adore Kaitlyn Hill’s writing and as someone who isn’t much of a YA reader, I know I’ll be picking up her next book. If you enjoy The Bachelor and are craving some friends-to-lovers goodness, then Not Here to Stay Friends is a must-read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.
This was a perfectly fun read! Sloane hasn't seen her best friend Liam since he moved to California. Now it's the summer of their senior year and they are finally going to spend their summer vacation together. there's only one small hiccup. Liam has to intern for his dad's production company on a reality show. When one contestant drops out, Sloane jumps in to help out. Soon, she finds herself torn between the guy from her favorite tv show that she's supposed to be dating and strange new feelings for Liam.
I loved this book. It was fun, flirty, and made me smile. I just honestly enjoyed reading it!
Thank you NetGalley for this arc!
Such a cute YA friends to lovers romance.
Liam and Sloan have been best friends since they were little but haven’t seen each other in years. Sloan flies out to California to spend the summer with Liam when she unexpectedly gets roped into being a contestant on essentially the bachelor but they’re teenagers and competing to star in a hit tv show as the new love interest for the lead actor, Aspen.
As the executive producers son, Liam is working on set as a PA where he has a clear view of Sloan and Aspen’s building relationship and is that jealousy he’s feeling? Only Sloan isn’t focused on Aspen. Sloan’s eyes keep roaming around trying to find Liam. Between stolen glances and written notes, could there be something more between Sloan and Liam other than friendship?
With dual povs, this book was so freaking cute and I was instantly invested in the story and characters; I couldn’t put it down!
I don’t normally gravitate toward friends to lovers, but I adored this book. Sweet, swoony, angsty, with a fun twist on a premise that’s been done sooo much. Absolutely obsessed, and look forward to what’s to come from Hill!
This is a funny, entertaining and sweet story about two best friends who who fall in love.
Liam and Sloane have been best friends since they were kids, but he had to move to California, now they are teenagers and she comes to visit him after several years of only talking on the phone, and both are pleasantly surprised by the physical changes they see in the other.
I really liked the premise of the book, the idea of the reality show, the beautiful friendship between Sloane and Liam and how little by little they discover that they feel more than friendship, I loved the way they struggle with what they feel because their friendship is more important than everything and the sweet way in which Liam cares for Sloane, LOVE THEM!
A hilarious, light and cute book about the first love, friendship and teen struggles that made me laugh and sigh.
Perfect for fans of
Friends to lovers
Slow burn
Reality show
Hollywood romance
If you’re looking for a YA romance that will have you smiling and giggling SO HARD, look no further!
Before I go on, I just want to say that I don’t watch the bachelor, I watched it waaay back when the first season aired and haven’t since, it’s not my thing. So I was skeptical about how much I’d like this. I’ve read “In her shoes” by Julie Murphy and enjoyed that and it had a similar premise. And I just want to say if that’s what’s stopping you from reading this, don’t let it! It was so good!
This is a childhood best friends to lovers and Sloane and Liam couldn’t be a cuter couple. They haven’t seen each other in person in 2-3 years and they’re both thrown off by how much the other has changed.
Sloane gets thrown into this bachelor-type show staring a guy from her favorite tv show and she’s not thrilled about it and has zero intention of actually liking him. But she has a hard time judging if he’s being genuine or not and what his motives are and why he’s so interested in her. She’s Also trying to figure out these new feelings for Liam. Also, the ending of this was VERY satisfying! I loved every second of it and definitely recommend.
I received an ARC through NetGalley for my honest review.
Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed this! It keeps me entertained and I didn’t want to stop reading! I can’t wait to see what’s next!
This was freaking adorable! I loved The Bachelorette element but for YA. The friends to lovers aspect was so so sweet and there were so many moments I found myself smiling or even laughing out loud. There was a lot of teen drama but honestly it was refreshing to read compared to drama in adult romance books! I rooted for Sloane and Liam the entire time and cared about both of them pretty much immediately. I wish this was a real show, I would watch it :) Overall a light, fun read. It was a perfect palette cleanser / feel good book.
-amazing opening, sucked me in IMMEDIATELY
-i was convinced this was an adult romance for some reason prior to reason, but it is definitely not
-the dual POV is a great addition to the story
-sometimes the dialogue would randomly get really super cheesy, seemingly out of nowhere and it took me out of the story a bit. not just because of the cheese factor, but because of the random change
-there was just way too much going on at points. there were a lot of subplots and because of the amount, none of them really got to be explored to the extent they deserved. i really felt the whole “cyrano” aspect added nothing to the book and could have been completely left out.
-i was honestly a bit disappointed by the end, mostly because i loved the first half so much and the characters were so great, but the second half was just a bit lackluster
