I loved this book. I’ve read similar plotlines, but at the same time, this, with it’s own touches, was a completely new take on things. The characters were incredible. I loved how the romance grew throughout the book. At the starting, I was literally yelling at them to be together cause it was just so obvious how good they would be. I liked the way they slowly discovered their feelings and grew apart and then grew back together and the push and pull of it all.

This YA romcom was the perfect first read of the year for me! A friends-to-lovers romance, set on a teen relating dating show (think Bachelor), it incorporated so many of my favorite tropes!
Sloane can't wait to spend the summer with her best friend, Liam, who moved to LA a few years ago and she hasn't seen him since. He's working with his dad on his new teen dating show, which bums Sloane out because she was hoping to have lots of quality time with him. But, as fate would have it, the show is 1 contestant short, and somehow Sloane ends up filling the slot. Why not? It gives her something to do and lets her be on set near Liam. But then, the super-hot star of the show, actor Aspen Woods, seems to actually take an interest and liking to her, which was not part of the plan. A love triangle ensues, and things get dramatic!
Aside from the main tropes, I loved the supporting characters and how Sloane bonded with the other girls in the house, and how things played out in the end (no spoilers!).
You'll definitely want to add this one to your TBR for when it publishes on 4/23!
3.75/5 stars! I hadn't realized this was a YA romcom versus a contemporary romance, but that's completely on me for now reading the genre more clearly. I did enjoy this book, once I realized that. Sloane is a likable main character, even though she makes some poor decisions within the storyline. I felt like this was a fun, light-hearted read and I would definitely read more by this author in the future.

With childhood friends, a reality tv show, and dual POVs, Not Here to Stay Friends was everything I could have hoped for. I loved the relationship between Sloane and Liam who were both extremely well-written characters. Sloane felt incredibly relatable an the opening had my instantly obsessed. The story was fast-paced and perfct for teens who are fans of The Bachelor and looking for the perfect YA romance.
Thank you to NetGalley, Kaitlyn Hill, and Random House Children's/Delacorte Press for providing this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
The book didn’t really get exciting until the last 150 pages or so. I wish that it had been like that the entire story. I felt that it was very slow at the beginning, but I stuck it out to see how it ended. I felt as though it was a very predictable romance. I did enjoy the story, it just was not my absolute favorite.
This review will be posted to my Goodreads and Amazon accounts immediately and also to my instagram account (@ginganinja333), and to my newly created bookstagram (@paulas.book.nook).
A romance built around reality television is 100% my jam. Sloane is excited to spend the summer with her best Liam. He's assisting his dad with the production of a new teen dating show. At the last minute, they need an additional contestant, so Sloane is asked to step in. While unexpected, she's excited because the show features Aspen Woods, a gorgeous actor. And Aspen seems to really like her. I dug the love triangle vibes in this one, and Liam and Sloane were characters I was rooting for throughout. It also had some good twists along the way to build the story. If you need a light-hearted romance that just makes you smile, this is that delight of a read. Thanks to NetGalley for the early look at this April 2023 release.
Thanks NetGalley for an E-Arc of Not Here To Stay Friends! This was a cute read, I just wish the excitement and angst of the last 100 pages had carried throughout the entire book! I didn't really buy into Sloan and Liams friendship at the beginning of the book enough to make the conflict of them turning into more than friends later in the book carry much weight... However, if you're a fan of The Bachelor/Bachelorette, it is a cool behind the scenes look at the premise that you might enjoy!
This book was so cute! It was a bit predictable but I really enjoyed the characters and the story. Perfect light-hearted read.
given the chance of reading the ARC of Not here to stay friends by Netgalley in excange of an honest review. thank you :)
our story follows Liam & sloane. they are both 17 and have been friends all their lives. the story begins when sloane goes to spend the summer with liam in LA.
here we find out that Liam will be working in his dad new show as an assistant. Due to unforeseen circumstances Sloan is over a spot in the tv show, which is a version of the bachelor.
which is always fun to read.
i did not realize the age of the characters and i was bit thrown off by it., i don't really like reading teenagers' drama but I'm glad i continues to read.
Both Sloan and Liam are fun to read and i loved how their relationship develops.
my only conplain is that we dont really get alot of them as a couple.
i would have loved to see more of that but its a lovely story and i will definitely recommend it
can wait until its released so i can add it to my physical bookshelf :)
Sloane comes to LA for the summer to spend time with her best friend Liam, who has had a hot boy glow-up since the last time she saw him. She finds out he's working on a reality dating show (think The Bachelor) that is a spin-off of her favorite TV show and gets roped into being the final contestant. However, she realizes she maybe doesn't want to just be friends with Liam anymore. I really liked hte dual POVs and the wrap-up of the ending. This book was super cute and I'd recommend for a quick, clean read!

I received an arc of this book from Netgalley
I really enjoyed this book. The first page literally opens up with a Hannah Montana reference. If you like the Bachelor and Better Than the Movies with drama, friends to lovers, and a SHOCKING ending, you’ll love this book.
I loved the set-up of Kaitlyn Hill's second book—another reality TV romance with a charming romantic pair, fun and high-stakes setting, and tons of good jokes, puns, and banter. A total delight, and the characters stole my heart throughout!
I had thought I would enjoy this book, but overall it was just a bummer of a read. I did not care for the main characters and the plot was more annoying than fun to follow. I liked the concept and hoped for a good book, but this just really left me wanting more and frustrated with the characters. The writing wasn't strong enough to keep me invested either which was also not enjoyable. Overall, it was just a bland book and not a favorite. Maybe the writing style was just wrong for me, or the characters didn't catch me, but overall wouldn't recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
I was
This book is for you if you are a fan of the enemy-to-lovers troupe with a twist involving a reality dating show. This book follows Sloan, who has just arrived in her dream city LA to visit her childhood best friend, Liam. Sloan even created a list of everything she wanted to do with Liam. That is until Liam’s father, a reality television show producer, asks Sloan to fill a spot on a new up-and-coming dating show. That features Aspen Woods, the main character of a show called the Cove. This is Sloan’s favorite TV show and would allow her to spend more time with Liam since he will be working on the set.
As Sloan competes against 25 different girls, she feels more attracted to Liam than her celebrity crush.
Does this book have a cute romance? Well yes. Is there a killer make-out session? Well, yes. So did I love this book? Well no.
Overall it was a quick and fun book to read, and there were times when I found myself laughing out loud. I adore the quotes from the fictional tv show the Cove. One of my favorites was:
“I know that I have heart-feeling for Dorian, but it’s time to explore my pants-feelings for brock-The Cove, season 1, episode 5”
This was an excellent solid YA book for romance, so why did I rate it three stars? The issue is that I felt like Sloan and Liam fell in love so fast that I got whiplash. I would have enjoyed the book better if Sloan and Liam were childhood best friends, but they met up again due to a dating show. Instead, it felt a bit unbelievable that Sloan and Liam never realized how attractive each other was before they met. You're telling me all the facetimes and even social media; they never realized that the other person was cute. Now I'm not saying their romance was terrible, no on the opposite, it was well written and made me giggle like a mad woman. However, the process could have been better written.
The side characters were so flat and nonexistent that I kept mixing up who was who. You don't get to learn any backstory from any side characters. If anything, they are added to the story, which makes them unforgettable. Now for Aspen's character, I would rather he have played just a second love interest. His character was overly predictable and brought nothing to the table. We also have this side plotline of Sloan's family being low-key toxic, from her parents not caring that she signed up for a live dating show to her mom not noticing that she hasn't called in days. As a middle child, I understood how she felt, being pushed aside for her siblings. That being said, I didn't know why it was written into the story when nothing happened with it. I would have loved to see Sloan standing up to the parents and telling them how she felt. But nope. I was not too fond of the ending, I get that it's YA, but it made me so frustrated that I wanted to skip over it.
If this show was about Sloan joining a dating show to win money for college. There she meets Liam, who is working on the show, and they slowly start to fall in love. Meanwhile, she is dealing with her feelings for Aspen, who may or may not be a bad guy. I would have loved this story more.
If you don't care too much about the reality tv show aspect and looking for a cute romance, then check it out.
3/5
PS: I would bet money that the Cover is based on Riverdale
Thank you to Random House Children's / Delacorte Press and Netgalley for the opportunity to receive this ARC for a a honest review.
Friends to lovers AND it's set on a reality TV dating show? I had high expectations for the book to be ridiculous, but I ended up enjoying it a lot.
I am so in love with this book, Katilyn Hill I love you. Sloane and Liam are such perfect best friends to lovers. The way that they just noticed small things about each other and stood up for each other. I love it so much.
I received an arc through netgalley.
This book in 3 words: Adorable. Amusing. Quick-witted.
Sloane plans on spending her summer with Liam, her longtime friend, in California. Instead, she learns Liam is working on his dad's set of a new bachelor-style-reality-tv-show for teens. During prep for the show, they end up being short a single girl to try and woo the famous Aspen Wood. Sloane joins the cast and her summer takes a drastic turn for the different and unexpected.
Another stellar book by Kaitlyn Hill. This is her second novel and I'm on auto-buy when it comes to anything she puts out. Her writing is strong and captivating making it hard to put it down.
Here's what I loved:
1. Sloane McKinney. Our FMC is relatable, fun, and strong-willed.
2. Behind-the-scenes vibe with the reality tv trope
3. SWEET LIAM
4. Realistic reactions to Aspen/reality TV
5. Friends to lovers (yessssss)
6. Dual POV with distinct voices
7. The OC, One Tree Hill, Dawson's Creek vibes
I LOVED this book!
Sloane and Liam have been best friends for years, but after a few years of long distance friendship, Sloane comes to California to spend the summer with Liam. She ends up in a Bachelor-type show with Liam working behind the scenes.
I loved this. It was cute, fun and funny, everything I want in a book. A perfect friends to lovers. I loved the dual pov- it really added to the story. It was a quick read, and definitely a great YA read.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Children's for the arc!! <3
Sloane is excited to finally get to spend the summer with Liam, her best friend who moved to LA a few years ago. But when she gets there, she finds out that he'll be working on the set of a new reality dating show instead of spending time with her. But with two days to go before filming, the show is down one contestant--so Sloane steps in. Suddenly, she's competing for the chance to date the star of her favorite teen drama... while she's falling for her best friend.
Romance books that take place on the set of dating shows is my favorite genre, so I knew I was going to love this one, but it was even better than I expected. The relationship between Sloane and Liam is great, and I really loved how supportive the contestants are of each other.
I absolutely tore through this book, and I can't wait to read more by Kaitlyn Hill.
This read was a bit difficult for me to stay invested in. While I realize teenage relationships occur (I was one, naturally), I found it hard to condone a teenage dating show. Maybe that’s because I’m a mom now…but it just felt weird.
The friends to lover trope was cute, and predictable given the title. But I enjoyed that the friends had been so since they were younger.
I enjoyed the dual POVs because I think every love story should show both sides - it does involve two people, after all.
I found myself skipping through this book though and, as mentioned, had a hard time staying invested. I think this would be a great read for high schoolers though!
