Thanks netgalley and random house for a copy of this book! It was a super quick, cute read about young love. Sloane is on a trip to visit her best friend, Liam, in LA. While she’s there, Liam’s tv producer dad finds out his new reality show is missing something. Twenty-five high schoolers were set to be in a Bachelor type show but the producers screwed up and got twenty four girls. Now Sloane gets thrown into the production to win the heart of a teen heartthrob.
I loved the characters of Sloane and Liam. But I kept forgetting they were in high school. The book did make them seem older. Also being on a love reality show at the age of 16 definitely would not fly in the real world. But the girl power message in the end is so important for young girls to hear.
I cannot get into this book. I don't know why considering I fell in love with Love From Scratch.
I like a childhood friends to lovers trope and was so excited to see this one was dual pov, but it felt like it was lacking substance. The catty on-screen fights and petty gossip were to be expected because of the nature of a show based on The Bachelor, but I was missing what else could have elevated this book. I wanted something more from the characters and the show that just wasn't provided.
This was such a sweet friends to lovers YA read. It’s perfect for those that love reality TV and dating shows. It was filled with behind the scenes reality TV drama and finding love. I was hooked as soon as Sloan landed in LA, and I was rooting for Liam every step of the way. I was surprised by the ending but it was perfect. I highly recommend!
Sloane Mckinney is excited to spend the entire summer with her best friend Liam Daniels in the Los Angeles. She's got their entire summer planned, but that all changes when Liam tells her that he agreed to work on the set of his dad's latest reality TV show. Sloane is bummed until a contestant drops out and Liam's dad asks her to join the show. Sloane's not sure about being a contestant, but Liam's dad promises to help her with TV writer aspirations. Besides, she would get to date Aspen Woods, the lead of her and Liam's favorite teen drama. Sloane agrees because what could possibly go wrong? But as the Sloane starts to date Aspen, she starts to see Liam as more than just her best friend. Does she dare explore those feelings and risk losing her best friend?
I ADORED this book! As a reality dating show junkie, I loved the premise and that this particular show focused on teenagers. The cute little blurbs from the fictional Cove tv-show at the beginning of each chapter was one of my favorite things. Kaitlyn hit all the reality show drama and did it all in way that felt very specific to her teenage characters. I couldn't help but root for Sloane and Liam. The ending was satisfying on so many levels!
This book is so sweet and swoony, you won't want to put it down! Also, if you haven't read Kaitlyn's first book, I highly recommend. She has become one of my favorite YA romance authors.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Children’s / Delacorte Press for the arc of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
4.25! what a stunning second book to kaitlyn hill’s first book!
i actually was nervous about reading a YA book about a reality show. YA is sometimes tough for me to get through because i’m older but also i usually detest a reality show plotline but hill suprised me. i was just the smallest bit confused but that’s probably because i don’t watch reality tv shows (anymore) really.
sloane was such a strong character to follow. she was likable and kind and kind of an underdog and liam was so sweet and protective. their friendship was cute and their instant realization of “when did my best friend get hot” was true to what i love about the friends to livers trope! it truly was such great mutual pining!! being able to read it in a dual pov was also just *chefs kiss*
i was truly curious to see how it would end (as i’m sure most people who watch reality tv like the bachelor are) and i loved it! i was lucky to get a copy of hill’s first book Love from Scratch too and hill’s writing stays consistently enjoyable and true to empowerment of young girls and their choices. such a great read for young readers imo!
thank you to the publisher and netgalley for an ARC in return for an honest review!
Not Here to Stay Friends by Kaitlyn Hill
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
okay y’all, when I first started this book and realized it was about high schoolers, I did not expect to love it… but I did. isn’t it every girl’s dream to be able to date their teenage heart throb? no? just me??
Not Here to Stay Friends is a cute, quirky rom-com following two childhood besties…while one of them (along with 24 others!!!) dates ~the~ main character from their favorite tv show. Who will Sloane fall for? Aspen, the gorgeous actor with all the charisma, or Liam, the best friend she hasn’t seen in year who she finds herself crushing on for the first time? a special thanks to @netgalley and Random House Children’s for the ARC! Pick this book up this Tuesday!!!

We're Team Liam in this house! What a lovely story about longtime friends who start to feel something more, and the chaos that comes with doing what's right vs. what's most beneficial. I really enjoyed how the reality TV show had a unique twist of basing it off of a teen drama series, having the backdrop be the show's set, and tying in parts of the show. Genius! All in all, this was a really sweet read with many twists and turns that kept me hooked the entire time.
I greatly enjoyed this one! The romance was fun, the sneaking around wasn't over done, and I loved the setting. Will absolutely recommend this one!
I really loved this book. I love good friends to more romance. I enjoyed this book a bit more then her first book the elements worked a bit better! I also loved setting of the dating show!! I also really enjoyed that we got both main characers POV. It was such a quick read and i really loved this characters and it wa unique take on a romance!
4.5 stars.
I love a retelling. Not Here to Stay Friends is a loose retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac, YA style. Sloane is visiting her best friend Liam for the summer, who she hasn’t seen in years, and sparks seem to fly upon their first re-meeting. But Liam got roped into working on a reality TV dating show to impress his dad, and when there’s a last minute drop out, Sloane fills in as a contestant.
The bachelor is the lead character from Sloane’s favorite show, so Liam watches from the sidelines as Sloane gets “romanced” by this famous actor, Aspen. Aspen, upon realizing that Liam and Sloane are besties, asks Liam for advice to “win” Sloane, hence the Cyrano de Bergerac influence.
I loved seeing both Liam and Sloane slowly come to the realization that their friendship could possibly be more. But even without the romance, their friendship is #goals. Standing up for and supporting each other, being open and vulnerable.
Not Here to Stay Friends was cute, sweet, and fun and I will definitely be reading more by Kaitlyn Hill.
Thank you to Random House and Delacorte Press for the review copy.
I loved this book so much! Friends to lovers and reality dating shows are two of my favourite book tropes so having them both in one book with a bit of a twist was so fun. It was so easy to read and I loved that it was dual perspective so we could see what both Sloane and Liam were thinking.
Sloane and Liam have been best friends since childhood, but when Liam’s Dad’s production company takes off, he moves to LA, leaving Sloane behind. Despite the long distance, these two keep in touch and are still as close as ever, and their summer of fun has finally arrived as Sloane goes to LA for the entire summer. When they see each other in person for the first time in forever, both are shocked at how the other looks as puberty has hit them both well. Unfortunately, their summer of fun takes a hit when Liam announces he’s PA’ing on his Dad’s set of a new Bachelor-inspired dating show, with the main actor of their favourite show, The Coast. To take it further, Sloane is roped into taking part in the dating show when they realise there’s not enough girls.
Whilst Sloane is vying for Aspen’s attention, which she seems to have caught because of her lack of interest, Liam is left wondering where his sudden jealousy is from. Honestly, I adored these two as they were coming to terms with their feelings. With attention from Aspen, Liam is left watching them on dates from the sidelines, which led to some funny moments. I have to say a particular scene had me squealing and if you’ve read it, it’s the car scene, I was obsessed with it and knew from that moment everything was going to change for these two.
If you love cute, swoon-worthy romances, this one is definitely for you! It was so sweet and there’s also a lot of girl power in this book too! I loved it.
Not Here to Stay Friends is a cute childhood friends to lovers, bachelor inspired read! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting. Sloane and Liam grew up together, always spending their time with each other until Liam’s family moved to LA for his fathers TV production job. They stay in contact but hadn’t seen each other in years until Sloane comes and spends the summer living with Liam in LA. This summer changes everything!
I found this book was full of happiness and really kept me smiling and waiting for what would happen next. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a friends to lovers bachelor inspired book!

Sloane and Liam haven’t seen each other in person for a while, so Sloane is really looking forward to spending her entire summer with Liam, exploring LA. But when she arrives, she discovers that Liam will actually be working on a bacheloresque reality TV show with his dad for 17 year old Aspen Woods, star of The Cove. When one of the girls is a no show, Sloane ends up taking her place as the 25th girl, all while Sloane and Liam start to develop feelings for one another. Aspen has his sights set on Sloane though. Who will win her over?

This was such a cute read! I loved the reality TV aspect, especially since I didn’t know quite how much of it truly is scripted and fake. The romantic chemistry between Sloane and Liam was flying off the pages, and I really just wanted them to get together! The ending was probably my favorite, with Aspen and the final four girls. I found myself laughing out loud at so many of the comments and sarcastic replies from both Liam and Sloane. I can’t wait to read more from Kaitlyn in the future!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC of this novel. 4.5/5 stars
Oh my god, I devoured this. I am a SUCKER for a romcom and this was hilarious but also had so many good quotes in it, including one where the main character LITERALLY REALIZES that friends-to-lovers is her favorite trope. ANYWAYS, Sloane sees her BFF in person for the first time in 5 years and even though they've facetimed, they've both changed in their appearances and anyways her and Liam suddenly are on the brink of maybe wanting to be more than friends...even though both of them will deny it. Sloane has ambitions of becoming a TV and movie writer and Liam's dad is a producer who suddenly needs a fill-in for a teen dating show based on Sloane and Liam's favorite show...a dating show Liam is also helping with.
Anyways...they exchange SECRET LETTERS and the chemistry and the "oh hey can I practice kissing you since we're only friends" and the SCREAM that I had at that and anyways, this was so good. Only complaint was that I wanted more of the fallout from the ending...and more about them in the epilogue.
When Sloane travels from Tennessee to LA to spend the summer with her childhood best friend, Liam, she pictures visiting tourist attractions and binge watching their favorite shows. She does not expect to end up a contestant on the reality dating show Liam's dad is producing where Liam is also working as a production assistant. Sloane largely finds the show silly, even as she finds some friends among the other contestants. She most looks forward to seeing Liam around the set -- and starts to wonder if she wants to be more than just friends, at the most inconvenient time.
This is a fun, warm-hearted, and highly engaging story, complete with sparkling characters and a terrific set-up.
Highly recommended!

So I'll admit, I have never watched an episode of the Bachelor. But I did enjoy this book. This book was really cute. I loved Sloane. Her obsession with Palm Trees made me laugh. It was adorable. Liam was a good MMC. I laughed out loud more than once while reading.
It just goes to show that you can read YA at any age and still enjoy it!
This was such a cute read. I enjoyed the slow burn of it and enjoyed the friends to lovers aspect. It was also fun to have one of the main characters be part of a dating show kind of like the bachelor. I liked watching Sloane and Liam's relationship evolve especially since Liam is a PA for the show and has to watch Sloane compete to date another guy. Overall, I had such a fun time reading this book!
what a fun and quick read! tbh I was a bit nervous at first going into this because bachelor-style books sometimes throw me off a bit but this one was so well done - it was adorable and funny and everything you could want from a YA romance
the story follows sloane mckinney and liam daniels, best friends since childhood, who live halfway across the country from each other. however, sloane is flying out to california to spend the summer with liam and they have a summer of fun all planned out. that is until she finds out that liam has been roped into working as a PA on his dad's new reality tv show for the summer. but, when one of the 25 contestant spots on this bachelor-like tv show is all of a sudden empty the day before filming is set to start, sloane is pushed to fill in. it could be fun...if she wasn't starting to question her new and confusing feelings for her best friend at the same time.
overall, this story was just so fun! the whole setting on the tv show set with the cast of other girls around was very entertaining and I love a good bit of drama. also, you can never go wrong with a friends-to-lovers trope! the little moments between the two in between shooting or on their days off was so cute and I loved getting to see both of their perspectives. their friendship was just so solid and I could really tell how much they cared for each other.
there were definitely a few parts that were a bit cheesy or where I wished we could have had some sort of flashbacks or elaboration, but overall I just thought this book was so enjoyable! the moments between them were so pure and I liked the friendship dynamics added in with the side characters as well. overall, just a fun read that I would recommend for fans of young adult fiction and reality tv!
This book is about two childhood friends who reunite but get involved in a dating show which changes their lives. After seeing the cover of this book, I was intrigued to find out what is happening with the way the girl is looking up at the guy shining the light while another guy is kissing her hand. Once I started this book, I was excited to know that it was a bachelor-themed book. At the moment, this was honestly what I was looking to read, and let me say that Hill did not disappoint. Hill has a great writing style where she captures every detail and makes the story flow. The pacing was perfect and I really enjoyed the setting. I enjoyed the whole show concept being part of the story where two guys are fighting for a girl. This book is written from dual perspectives which readers will enjoy,
The main characters in this book are Sloane and Liam. Sloane is excited to meet her friend only to find out she is being part of the show. Liam is working for his dad on the show and has feeling for his friend. Both were very well-written characters and I enjoyed their stories. They had great character development and I loved the chemistry. There were many side characters but I have to say that I didn’t really enjoy them. They were okay but the MCs shined the light. The romance is friends to lovers which is a trope I don’t favor but don’t mind. Hill did an amazing job with it and the romance was cute.
The ending was well done and I really enjoyed this story. It was super cute with many memorable scenes. Sometimes it feels like I haven’t read YA in a while because I lean towards adult romance but it’s a nice refresher to come back to YA. I really enjoyed this book and thought that Hill did such an amazing job with the story. I recommend it to those who love the bachelor and want to read something like it.

For the most part, I felt that this book was just fine. There wasn’t anything that made it bad, but there also wasn’t anything that made it great.
The main character was good, and I enjoyed getting to know her throughout the story. I just feel like the author dropped the ball on so many things with her. With how the ending of the book wrapped up, I wanted to see more of her relationships with the other girls. I also think that her family problems added nothing to the story, and none of that was resolved either. Yet I did like seeing how she was able to grow on her own and how much stronger she had become by the end of the book.
The romance was fine, but half way through, I felt that they lost all their spark, and things were kind of bland. With the way the book is set up, I just wanted them to spend more time together, or I wanted to utilize the communication methods she set more. I did like him as his own character, and I think having his own POV added good insight into his character.
While parts of the ending were predictable, I enjoyed how everything fell into place.
Overall, it was an okay read, but nothing to sing home about.
