It's a good handbook for those who work in a hospice and with the elderly and/or vulnerable population. It makes you think on your actions, and give some suggestion that you can incorporate, no matter what your profession is.
This is a book every person in healthcare should read, it should be a part of nursing school. We do not talk about end of life enough even though we all face it. Nurses often have the responsibility of notifying families when a loved one has passed, yet they are taught nothing of it in school. I am thankful the author took the time to write this book!
This has lots of helpful info, and many readers will probably find it to be reassuring. I hope I don't need this info, but I suspect most people will probably have to go thru a version of hospice.
I really appreciate the free review copy for review!!
This was informative and compassionate. I wish everyone knew about this book when in this situation! I appreciated Nurse Debbie's honesty and real stories.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I have a loved one with the terminal illness Alzheimer's, and 'The Hospice Handbook' has been a huge comfort. The biggest take-away from this guide for me was 1. everything will be OK as we navigate end-of-life care, and 2. that my loved one will have dignity and companionship to the end.
Debbie's mannerisms and tone through the whole book were soothing for me as a reader. I loved the layout of how this book was broken down into sections so you can easily reference different parts as they come up in your journey. There is a section where she uses questions as prompts to explain what Hospice is, and what it can and can't do. That format of questions/answers felt like we were having a conversation.
At some point in our lives we will all be a part of end-of-life care, whether it is a family member, spouse, close friend or ourselves. 'The Hospice Handbook' gives the tools to navigate that time with the confidence that we are making the best decisions and utilizing the resources available.
