Miss Newbury's List by Megan Walker is an enthralling read with its masterfully paced plotline that strikes a perfect balance between action and contemplation for its endearing characters.
Do you have a bucket list?
This book defiantly inspired me to make one!
Rosiland wants to get her list of ten things done before she gets married, just like her aunt! But, with a marriage quickly approaching she has to hurry. This list was made when she was just a girl, but the list if full of things that took her on a fun journey!
Rosiland teams together with her best buddy Lisa and her cousin, Charlie, to complete the list in haste! What seems like a simple list becomes a journey of a lifetime! It also makes her question if marriage to a duke is what she truly wants in life...
I really enjoyed following Rosiland and her group through list completion. Charlie grew on me after a while, and I quickly started rooting for him. If love triangles scare you... no worries! I really liked how this love triangle didn't make me cringe and instead it made me try to figure out a way to get things to work out how I wanted them too.
Rosiland at first struck me as immature, but she quickly grew on me and by the middle of the book I was her biggest cheerleader and was on the edge of my seat wondering what was next! It helped the book feel lighthearted adding in humor, love and growth.
This group of characters I wish I could read about the rest of their lives and find out all the craziness they bring about.

#1 - learn to swim
#2 - run away for a day
Rosalind (Ros) made a list of ten things she wanted to do before marrying and now that she's engaged to a Duke, it's time to check things off. She enlists the help of her best friend, Liza, and Liza's cousin, Charlie.
Charlie, oh, Charlie! This man is the most aggravatingly smug, yet sweet, hero.
"Why are you so smug all the time? You've been cast out of your family home. No allowance. Burdening your family."
"Oh, I am not this smug all the time."
"No?"
"Just when I'm around you."
Charlie's fearlessness nearly undid both Ros and I, and his rough exterior, bold and blunt manner, brave and adventurous soul left both of us swooning. Yet...completing these tasks somehow frees her soul and I loved watching the shenanigans unfold, while allowing me to get to know these lovable characters even more and in different lights.
I loved this story. Loved it! Such a fun premise with likable characters plopped into precarious situations.
Content: mild romance

This book took me a few chapters before I got into it but once I did I was hooked. Charlie is a true gentleman with a heart of gold hidden behind his pain. Rosalyn is trying to find happiness through a list because she feels like to give her family what they most want requires her to give up her dreams.. Charlie seems to be the only one who sees Rosalyn’s struggle. I enjoyed how this story developed. I highly recommend this book.
I absolutely loved this book! It was so different and fun! It kept me constantly guessing and I had no idea how it would all work out. I loved the end and how it wrapped up. I loved Charlie and his willingness to help Rosalind. He was such a great character. Both of them had things to work through which made them more real. I loved the list and having them do all of it together. And that twist near the end! I did NOT see that coming and it made me love the book even more. I highly recommend this one! It is definitely a new favorite!
The perfect historical romance for February, 1820, English countryside, Rosalind is to be married to a Duke, which will benefit her family, but she is wary. Her aunt had made a to do list before her wedding and she said it helped her, so Rosalind gets out her 10 item list and tries to achieve it before the wedding with the help of her friends and brother. Charming.
I stumbled upon Regency Romance several years ago, and it’s become one of my favorite genres. I describe it as “fairytales for grownups.” 😜 They’re clean, happy, and easy to read. What more can you ask for really?
I read Lakeshire Park when it came out in 2020, and it immediately landed a spot in my all-time favorite books. So I’ve been chomping at the bit waiting for a new one from @authormeganwalker ! Cue Miss Newbury’s List, which debuted yesterday!
You guys, I’m still thinking about Charlie. In the words of Tina Turner, he is “simply the best!” Oh, Charlie. So swoony. Rough around the edges, but so fun and clever and wonderful. You will root for him for sure. Following along as he and Ros (ie Miss Newbury) check things off of her wedding bucket list makes for a lovely and cozy read. I highly recommend checking this out if you’re in the market for a sweet story!
Friends, you need this book. Right now. Move it to the very tip top of your TBR. It belongs on the list of all time most incredible Regency romances! @authormeganwalker you’ve written something truly special!
Rosalind is determined to finish a list of 10 things to do before she gets married to a duke she barely knows. The list ranges from silly to serious and everything gets better when Charlie Winston decides to help her. Charlie is wild, a little lost in life, and everything Ros never knew she needed. Watching him do everything to make her dreams come true left me in puddles! 🫠
There are significant obstacles in their way and happily ever after isn’t easily won. The ending is absolutely page turning so be prepared to set aside real life for this one!
Favorite scenes:
The opera
The most perfect/agonizing almost-kiss I’ve ever read!
The cliff
The sweets picnic
Charlie’s house (swoooonnn!)

What an intriguing to read. Rosalind’s aunt told her to make a list of 10 things she wanted to do before she got married. Rosalind had promised her aunt she would follow through. Little did she know that her life would be turned upside down because of that list. This is such a fun read. The characters were witty and charming. The storyline is full of adventures with twists and turns that keep you guessing. Clean and swoony romance at its best.

5 beautiful stars! Megan Walker has done it again. She wrote a proper romance that made me so happy. And has a side note I think she has the most beautiful covers.
The story was built around a strong female protagonist and an interesting misunderstood male. The romance was a slow burn with little special moments that make this one so special. It had my favorite things. Such as, clean romance, honorable men and heartfelt moments with a HEA.
I highly recommend it and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Thanks Shadow Mountain via NetGalley.
Fun to read sweet romance.
She promised her hand to one man but her heart to another. Will Rosalind choose her own happiness or sacrifice it for what she thinks is best for her family?
When she was twelve years old, Rosalind Newbury made a list of things she wanted to complete before marriage and then forgot about it. She finds the list a few weeks before she is to marry a duke she hardly knows and is convinced the reason she doesn’t feel ready for marriage is because her list isn’t completed, not because she’s marrying the wrong person.
Rosalind feels responsible for elevating the social status of her family so she agrees to marry the Duke of Marlow before she even has her first season in London. She begins to realize this marriage might come at a great cost to herself but is willing because it will open doors and provide opportunities for her future posterity. However, she grieves the loss of experiences like falling in love and the things she will have to leave behind or stop doing when she becomes a duchess.
Rosalind's best friend and closest neighbor Eliza Ollerton is busy trying to help her cousin Charlie straighten out his life. His father has cut him off due to his recent poor choices, so he no longer has a home or resources. He has made mistakes but is a good man.
I was pulled in from the beginning and didn’t want to put it down. The thing that stands out to me most about this book is how well Megan Walker does of helping the reader care about Rosalind and understand how she feels. For instance, I wanted to help find her list and felt her confusion and sorrow when Liza wouldn’t let her visit.
I really enjoyed this book and count it as a new favorite. It was fun to read, romantic, and made me smile. I love the characters and didn’t want it to end. I was expecting a happy ending, but there were lots of surprises. Five stars! Thanks to Shadow Mountain Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC to use for my review.
This romance was cozy, and sweet. I enjoyed the idea of a bucket list, and felt it had such great potential. However the romance seemed way too rushed and left me feeling disappointed.
When Rosalind was a kid she wrote a list of 10 things she wanted to do before she got married. Now that she's engaged she's found her list and wants to start checking things off it.
This is a fun regency romance. I really liked Charlie. I thought Rosalind's list was kind of silly but it was fun to watch her grow and learn about herself and what she wants out of life as she pursues it.

Have I ever mentioned how grateful I am to have been born in this day and age (and location) where I don't have to marry for status and arranged marriages aren't a thing? Well, if I haven't, then reading this book further cemented my appreciation for the freedoms I have. I can't even imagine marrying someone I not only didn't love, but didn't even know, simply because it would give my family a title.
Now that that's off my chest, I can get into the meat of the review. Quite simply, I loved this story. The author did a great job at bringing the characters to life, and I could easily see myself getting involved in their crazy schemes. Rosalind, Liza, and Charlie made quite the trio - especially poor Liza as she kept trying in vain to bring the other two to their senses. (I'm glad she wasn't successful, that would have made for a very boring story.)
I love stories with happy endings, but I mostly love the battle to get to the happy ending. This one captured that battle perfectly. Definitely a story I recommend.
Rosalyn has an arranged marriage to a duke but before she becomes a duchess she wants to finish the list she started at the age of 12. It’s all the things she wants to do before she marries she wants to hang her portrait in public, learn to swim, change someone’s life, go on an adventure with her brother Ben write out her childhood memories just a name a few. Once she finds the note she goes to her friend Liza‘s house at Whitechapel when the Butler doesn’t allow her entrance she sneaks around to the back in in the servents stairway she meets a man who looks like he’s seen better days. At first she is frightened but when she hears her best friend Liza speak to him in a familiar way she becomes intrigued. She finds out this is Charlie Winston her best friends cousin. Unbeknownst to Rosalyn this would be the man who unwittingly helps her with her list in the more she’s around him the less attractive her marriage to the land loving Duke becomes. Can she marry for love instead of duty? This was such a fun book and I knew when Charlie first read the list it was going to be a great book and I wasn’t wrong. I have become so obsessed with regency romance and this was really a great one. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book by Megan Walker but this will definitely not be my last. I found this book Witty romantic and fun to read I loved her relationship with her brother Ben an absolutely love The epilogue. What a great read. I received this book from NetGalley and shadow mountain publishing but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

What a regency delight! Megan Walker blew me away with Lakeshire Park and Miss Newbury’s List was no exception. I absolutely loved the idea of Ros completing her list before her marriage. It was the perfect setup for her to meet Charlie. The way they were strangers and fell into an easy, no expectations friendship just warmed my heart.
Their chemistry was evident from the start and with each interaction and meeting their chemistry grew even more. I became smitten with Charlie fast as it seemed his life’s goal became helping Ros complete her list — gah, the grove holds such a special place in my heart! The subtle way the feelings between them began to bloom made my heart ache in the best way, but it also made me wonder how Ros was going to get out of her seemingly impossible situation to be with the one who made her heart sing.
I loved the ending and the way things fell perfectly into place. At times it seemed like Ros’s family was aloof and uncaring — worried only about status, but they came through in a big, satisfying way. This story checked off all the boxes for me from start to finish. I can’t recommend it enough!
Thank you to Shadow Mountain and NetGalley for an advanced copy. My thoughts are my own.
Miss Newbury's List by Megan Walker is a fun, quick clean read. In 1820 Rosalind, Ros, Newbury is engaged to be married in 5 short weeks. Pretty much a marriage of convenience to a duke. The convenient part is that she will become a duchess, the first in the family and it will elevate her brother's standing.
But first, Ros has a list of things she wants to accomplish, a bucket list if you will, of things that she thinks she should learn or do. She made this list at the suggestion of an aunt, when Ros was 12. Do some of the things on the list still pertain to now, in Ros's mind they do. She enlists the aid of her good friend Liza and Liza's cousin Charlie Winston.
Charlie is not really a ne'er do well but has not settled down yet to the consternation of his parents. Charlie is all too happy to help Ros with her list. So, the adventures begin! The list contains 10 things that Ros wants to do i.e., learn to swim, where she almost drowns, Charlie to the rescue. The pair spend a lot of time together, Liza is beside herself to keep the two of them out of trouble.
A romance between Charlie and Ros is blooming, making Ros rethink her wish to marry the Duke of Marlow. There seems nothing in the relationship that she wants aside from a strip of land that her father owns, that the duke wants, there isn't much else to think that she could be happy in this marriage.
This book is clean, funny, and a joy to read. I usually like a book to have a bit more meat to it, but I found that I did enjoy this one, had me hoping for the best for Ros and Charlie! I give it 5 stars!
I received a copy of the book for review purposes.
Rosalind is mere weeks from her marriage to a man she's barely met and certainly doesn't love - but he's a duke, and the marriage will benefit her whole family. Feeling unprepared for marriage, she recalls her aunt's long-ago advice to make a list of things she wanted to do before getting married and finds the old list. She hopes that completing the list will somehow teach her about herself and ready her to be a good wife - but somehow, her attempts to tick items off the list end up intertwined with Charlie, a disreputable cousin of her neighbour and best friend Liza. And the more she sees of Charlie, the more she gradually comes to understand her heart - even if she is reluctant to acknowledge it. When forced to choose between her family and her heart, what decision will she make - should she make?
This was a new author to me, so I didn't know what to expect, but I'll definitely be looking for more by the author. A delightful story where an unexpected friendship, involving mutual helpfulness, develops into an unselfish 'more'. Neither was looking for friendship, let alone anything more, and while both embraced the friendship, both also fought the 'more' given that she was engaged. I really appreciated the honour both showed in their attitude towards the engagement, even if they still unthinkingly did things that probably weren't sensible. Watching the relationship grow between them was lovely, and as soon as the duke appears on the scene, any desire to see more of him vanishes. My one quibble about the book was the injury and healing - it was presented as a potentially deadly injury, and yet he seemed able to return to normal life within days. Nevertheless, a clean and well-written book, with interesting characters and an intriguing plot. Recommended.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
I enjoyed the characters very much in this story and I loved the banter between Charlie and Ros. It was a charming romance.
Many thanks to Shadow Mountain Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
