I loved this! I thought it was so cute! It was like a houseplant, but it was her grandma! It made me laugh and it was so heartwarming and sweet. It was great for kids whose grandparents are moving in with them. A great introduction to that. I loved it!

This was so very sweet!! I loved the illustrations, and the overall story was fun and endearing. This would be a great way to explain to young readers what it's sometimes like for a grandparent to move into their house. The child's point of view and the way the book reads as a "how to care for a pet/plant" provides a simple way of explaining what could sometimes be a tricky or emotional situation.

This children's book shows the incredible bond between a grandmother and her grandchild. Super cute book with great illustrations.

This picture book tells the story of a little girl who helps her grandma get settled into their home when she moves in permanently. The story shows the challenges a family might face when adjusting to a new member, but also the positives of having someone you love so close to home. The narration sort of follows a "how to" format, as the child explains how to care for a grandma (even if the grandma maybe doesn't need as much help as is being offered). It is very sweet and would be perfect to help support a child going through this kind of change. I would recommend this book to parents of children in the age 3-8 range who have a new family member moving in with them (otherwise it might be kind of disappointing if their grandma doesn't move in with them shortly after reading it!) The book has enough funny moments for parents to enjoy as well with an appropriate but also adult humour (such as the girl trying to make sure grandma is fed and entertained when she doesn't need that right now lol). Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this cute book!

Such a sweet story of multi-generational families.

This book is perfect for young children who are living with, or soon to live with their grandparents. It discusses the social and emotional challenges found when routine gets changed. Being told from the perspective of a young person who has their grandmother move in with their family, it navigates the ways both the child and grandmother cope and adapt to the changes.

Absolutely loved this story. The character art is so cute, and the flow of the story is whimsical and well paced. I would recommend to any child with a family member moving in with them or living in a multi-generational family.

Sweet little book about a grandmother moving in with the child narrator's family. This would work well in a classroom if a teacher was aware of a situation like this happening or if a teacher knew of a family with grandparents sharing the home.

This is simply a child's retelling of what happens when Grandma moves in---preparing her room, her hobbies, etc. All seen from a child's POV.

Book does not come out until April, 2023.

I did receive this book from #NetGalley. #JenniferMookSang #Thecareandkeepingofgrandmas

This was a sweet book that tells about when Grandma comes to live with the family. The child tends to Grandma as if a plant or a pet or something that really needs special attention. Very special and kind-just how we should treat our elders!

A little girl's grandma moved into her family's home. The girl knew grandma would need her help to meet the neighbors, settle in, and adjust in many ways to be comfortable. She did everything she could think of to make grandma feel welcome and to show her love.

This story is sweet, considerate, and thorough. If there are any other ways (aside from more hugs) to better care for grandmas, I can't think of them. And I know several grandmas!

I recommend this book to all ages!

5/5 Stars

This is such a sweet book. I like that it shows how people (including grandmas) need time and compassion to get used to new situations. The story is presented like a nature program, encouraging children to consider how someone might have different needs from themselves and how to help make someone comfortable in a new enviroment.

This is a sweet story of a young child’s experience having grandma move into the family home. The child makes efforts to help grandma feel comfortable, and they share many tender moments together.

Parts of the narrative seemed odd, almost as though caring for a grandma was akin to caring for a houseplant. It mentions “watering” grandma and that sometimes she “wilted.”

This would be a nice story for a family experiencing a similar situation. The examples of kindness toward elderly family members, though, are universal.

The Care & Keeping of Grandmas is a cute book with more pictures than words.
The story is definitely aimed at pre-school-aged children (and younger), as it is very simple and short.
Cute watercolor-style illustrations are abundant.
The story concept is cute, as it can be relatable for children who have a grandmother living with them.
Unique, cute concept.
Limited word count would normally make this type of book an easy reader, but large words make this a read-to me book instead.
Overall, this is a cute, quick read for parents of little kids.
I recommend this for parents to read to children under 5.

The Care and Keeping of Grandma
4.5 Stars

The Care and Keeping of Grandma is a lovely children's book about a young girl whose grandma will be moving in with them. I can easily see parents using this book to prepare a child for a grandparent to move into their home. It will prepare kids for that big adjustment. There are suggestive tips about making grandma feel welcome once she moves in. As her granddaughter watches grandma taking care of her plants, she makes the adorable discovery that grandma needs love and care, too. Together, they learn to navigate this new way of living and how to take care of each other.

This great story is well matched with its touching illustrations. I love the muted colors and simple style used to take on this serious topic. The artwork really brought this story to life. Also, it's really nice to see a multigenerational home in a children's book. It doesn't happen often. Thank you, NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada, for the advance reading copy for an honest review.

Sometimes grandparents leave their “regular habitats” to move in with their children and grandchildren. This work shares humorous and sweet tips and tricks for making your grandma feel at home when she moves in with you.

This work was a cute and touching way to discuss the realities of having a grandparent move in with you as a young child. It included some realistic and funny ways of making sure your grandma can feel right at home as well as ways to take care of her while still having fun. I think the topic of a multigenerational home is an important one to broach with young kids, especially if they’re a little older when someone else is first moving into the same house as them.

I really enjoyed the loose illustration style as well as the color palette that was chosen. The illustrations complimented the text well and made this book a joy to read. If you have children in your life, I recommend this work – especially if their grandparents are also in their lives.

The Care And Keeping Of Grandma's is an adorable children's book. This book is about a little girl whose grandma moves in with them, and just like plants her grandma needs lots of love, patience,"watering" and care. She takes very good care of ber grandma. Together they learn how to navigate this new way of living together in a very sweet way for little ones to understand.

I really loved how this author depicted a multigenerational home, something you don't see to often in books/TV but something that is very common and wonderful to see.

This book is the perfect blend of cute and seriousness. I could see parents using this as a tool to help their children adjust to having someone else moving into their home, even if it is grandma! The art style was simple and I think that was a wise choice because it allows the reader to focus more on what is being shared.

Thank you, Penguin Random House Canada, for the advance reading copy.

It is such a good picture book talking about spending quality time with the elderly with some very interactive activities described in the book which I really appreciate.

The illustration is so good. Everything is so perfect I would say.

What a beautiful story about becoming a multigenerational home! There will be a transition for sure, and the author takes such great care of her Grandma.

I love this book because it can provide a mirror for children who do live in multigenerational settings, and a window for others to think about what it might be like.

The added representation of the makeup of different families is also amazing.
