I am a huge fan of Priscilla Shirer so it is no surprise that I enjoyed The Resolution for Women. Priscilla has a passion for women and the Bible. We benefit greatly from her knowledge and passion.
This is another book I would recommend by her.
I love The Resolution for Women, New Revised Edition by Priscilla Shirer! In The Resolution for Women, Ms. Shirer delves into deep Biblical Truths to help us stay committed to God and His Way. I really love the Biblical Truths that were presented in the book. The Truths that were presented really made me think and left me gut wrenched. I used The Resolution for Women as part of my devotional time. I highly recommend every woman to read The Resolution for Women. Thank you to NetGalley and Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads,
After ten years of solid success with the original book, The Resolution for Women has been revised and updated. What I find most interesting is in the beginning Priscilla even says she thought she would find that she had to update the quite a bit of her introduction, only to read it and realize it was solid advice then, as well as now. She gives a clear and concise set of resolutions that we as Christian women should work towards as well as her personal stories as how successful, or even honestly unsuccessful, she has been in her own pursuit of these goals. What's even more important is that these are for self reflection, whether or not those around us are following the same path of meeting the resolutions, but our own personal walk with Christ and how that helps to shape every encounter we have. I have not read the original edition, so I cannot compare the additions to this edition, but I think it is a stellar resource for any woman wanting to live intentionally.
*I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. This review is my own opinion*
This updated version of The Resolution for Women combines solid teaching with ten years of additional insight and wisdom. Author Priscilla Shirer challenges her audience to become women of purpose, resolve, and strength, not in their own power, but in the power of the Lord. This revised edition inspires readers to become:
*women of contentment
*champions of others
*devoted to Christ and his call on their lives
*women of purpose!
While I haven't read the original version of this title, I will say that The Resolution for Women is challenging. It caused me to reflect on my own beliefs about who God is, who I am, and how the two intersect. Shirer's teaching is practical and honest. She's shares her own struggles, triumphs, and life lessons while continually pointing the reader back to God. With questions at the end of each chapter, this would also make a wonderful study for a women's group. Priscilla Shirer continues to share solid teaching in her newest title. I'm so glad I picked this one up and can't wait to share it with the women in my life.
*Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Not a new book. There’s an update in appearance. However for the most part there are minimal changes.
Honestly, it has not changed enough to require you to purchase if you already have the first edition.
Now if you don’t have a copy, it’s definitely worth the purchase as the book is about grounding yourself in integrity as a woman. In governing your life well, while there may be some areas that don’t apply, that’s ok. Remember she’s married and a mom so expect sections that speak to her space of life.
I’ve personally read it several times and led a book club through it.
I love anything by Priscilla Shirer! She is a true Christian, a believer in the true word of God, but an imperfect person who needs God. Her books are inspiring and encouraging.
At first I was just reading this book as another book to review for NetGalley, but as I got deeper and deeper into it, I realized that the Lord was speaking to me thru this book, and wanted to use it in my own life! It was as if my mentor was sitting me down, and having a chat with me about how to draw closer to God, how to live my life for Him, and how to live my life as a faithful woman of God thru this book, and the resolutions in this book help me do those things!
Each of these resolutions Priscilla suggests are not just a "how to make your life better in easy steps," but they are to be thought though, prayed through, and really considered so that one's life will not just be affected, but changed for the better. Here are a few of the resolutions you will see in this book:
A resolution to be content
A resolution to champion gospel-centered womanhood
A resolution to value myself and celebrate others
A resolution to be devoted to Christ and defined by His Word
Then she explains through her experiences, and what God has shown her through her own life, how she lives out each resolution with the help of the Holy Spirit. I felt like this book is like a dear friend, one who loves the Lord and has a deep relationship with Him, sitting me down and telling me how I can live my life in a way that pleases Him, and that will help me to flourish, and that's what Priscilla Shirer has done. She uses scripture, along with her experience to share the resolutions that she lives in her in own life with us so that we, too, can live a flourishing life with the Lord, our families, and our neighbors. But I felt that through Priscilla's words, the Lord was speaking to me, saying, Angela these resolutions will draw you closer to Me, and will help you live a life that I have destined for you!".
So it is safe to say that even though I started out reading this book as a reviewer, I am glad God drew me to it, and is speaking to me through it. It is a book that after I read it through, I will go back through slowly, and now will use it as a reference book probably throughout my lifetime, as it is a book I want to study, pray through, and grow through. I give it 5 out of 5 stars, and am so glad she wrote it! As godly women today in a culture that defies godly principles for living our lives, we need more books like this that show us how to live our lives as women who love God, love our families and communities, and who want to help future generations of women to do the same!
"The Resolution for Women" is a book that can strengthen our relationship with Christ and spur us on to live the life God can allow us to live.
In this book, they look at several aspects of a woman's life that can be challenged and changed by our walk with Christ. In each chapter, we find much encouragement to surrender this area to the LORD. But, she gives plenty of examples (testimonies, recounting of life experiences as they relate to the topic) too.
This book was hard to put down. You will want to look into purchasing your own copy.
I have loved all of the Pricilla Shirer books that I have read so far and this one was one of the best. Priscilla is insightful and makes you take a look good look at your life and the changes you may need to make. She doesn't make you feel as if you are being accused of anything or a failure for what is going on in your life. She comes at it as a friend, one who has also faced mistakes and challenges, but has come through with the help of scripture and friends. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to make some changes in their lives or just to find more balance.
I love Priscilla Shirer and have done most of her Bible studies with ladies in my church. I don’t believe I have ever read one of her book-books though so I was excited to get in to this one. I love the idea of living with intention that this book describes. I appreciate that she reminds the reader right away this isn’t about changing anyone else, it’s not about anyone else’s inaction or action, only my own decisions. This book is a solid introduction/reintroduction to a wide range of issues requiring our attention if we are to be whole women of God. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to any woman trying to align her life to Christ.

- I appreciated her thoughts on contentment on page 30-31… it is the “equilibrium between the enjoyment of life now and the anticipation of what is to come. Contentment serves as a guard against desires gone wild.”… “by choosing contentment, you’re not getting rid of your desires, you‘re just demanding that they assume an appropriate, humble position in your life, not bossing you around like a tyrannical dictator, forcing you to submit to his ever-growing, and ever-changing list of demands. It means you no longer allow your yearnings and aspirations to control you, to rob you from the full use of and gratitude for what you’ve currently been given leaving you unable to enjoy this, because He hasn’t seen fit to give you that.”
- Her thoughts on how we can choose to yield were thought provoking… strength within boundaries.
- I loved her idea of an “affirmation culture” among woman.
- “…the holy tension of asking God questions without questioning God.” (Pg 77)
- “Faithfulness is born when the outward expression of your beliefs are lived out over time.” (77)
- Her thoughts on both being a listener and being a not-good listener are vital. (113-114) I love that this is a gift we can give people. Silence can really be strength.
- The chapter on forgiveness provided some needed reminders to me about a past situation I am still wrestling with.
- I will not tolerate evil influences even in the most justifiable forms in myself or in my home.
- The chapter on honouring your husband was so good… “You are committing to be for him even when you’d rather be against him.” I feel like this section alone would be worth reading this book for!
- Are we loving our kids or “in love” with them?
- Her final thoughts on legacy are how I want to keep on remembering in my own life, that it’s not just about my life but all those I touch.
My thanks to Net Galley and Herald Press for the opportunity to read this copy of The Resolution for Women by Priscilla Shirer. I highly recommend it!
I haven’t been disappointed by a Priscilla Shirer book, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. Such an amazing read for every woman. The topics are practical to everyday life. It helped renew my perspective of how to be the woman I am called to be, which is especially helpful in today’s culture where the role and inherent value of a woman is becoming more and more unclear. It has inspired me to be a better wife, mother, friend, and daughter.
The devotional to end all other devotionals, The Resolution for Women Revised Edition is beautifully written, thought provoking and authentic. The real life stories and the parallels the author draws are practical and real. I enjoyed this revised edition, with new updated stories that are relevant to today’s woman.
Thank you to NetGalley and B&H Publishing Group for the advanced reading copy of this wonderful book in exchange for my honest review.
Having read Shirer’s book, Fervent: A Woman’s Battle Plan to Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer with the Women’s Bible Study group at my church, I was excited to have the opportunity to read a digital review copy of this updated title from NetGalley. The Resolution for Women was a best seller when it was published in 2011. Shirer digs into the Bible and uses it to guide readers to live their best lives with thirteen resolutions dealing with gratitude, womanhood, accountability, forgiveness, purity, family relationships, and grace. The updates help make the book more relevant for our world in which pandemic, political upheaval, and rising violence are all around us.
The book has an approachable, conversational tone. This makes it a good choice for a group book club or prayer group. Shirer shares stories from her own home and ministry experiences and then provides Bible references along with questions to discuss. If you’re reading this book on your own, the questions make terrific writing prompts for those who enjoy writing in journals. The questions are also good as a way to focus reflection and prayer.
This book would great to study in January, since many people are eager for resolutions. It also would lend itself to a Lenten Bible Study, with groups taking up two or three resolutions a week.
Different denominations may have different views about some of the topics, especially those that deal with the roles of women in the church or family relationships. However, I have often found that this makes discussion richer. I will definitely be recommending this book to my Women’s Bible Study group!
