I don't have it in me to give a Sarah Andersen less than 3 stars, but I didn't really think this was that funny :\ The art was adorable but what I loved about Andersen's previous comics is how relatable they are. These are all about cryptids, so not so relatable, and for me, not so funny :(
Whether you love Sarah Scribbles or you're a fan of all the wayward cryptids, this is the comic for you. This collection of Anderson's comics will make you see the mythological creatures in a new hilarious way.
Oh Sarah Andersen, I love you. You just can't of her level of comic strip entertainment - I've been following her for years. My favourites in this one are the Fresno Nightcrawlers! :)
I already adored Sarah Andersen’s work that I’d seen on Instagram and shared around the internet. Sarah is funny and is exceptional at creating absolutely relatable comics. Cryptid Club is different from what I’ve seen from Sarah previously, but it was still very obviously her art style with a flair for humor. I truly enjoyed reading Cryptid. I have always been interested in Cryptids but have seen few humorous books about the topic. What a gem of a read.
An adorably weird and quirky comic collection that humorously depicts the everyday happenings of various cryptids. Perfect for when you need a laugh or a good pick-me-up!
This book was adorable. I loved the relationship, or club, between all these cryptid creatures. The way they were designed was so cute and friendly looking, making the story more inviting. I would love to see more from them
I found the comics cute and some of the stories made me chuckle, but it overall felt a little bit too flat and maybe too short to really enjoy it fully.
I liked some creatures' stories more than the others, but there are some I didn't know about (I'm not all about cryptid stuff and I basically know the usual international-wide popular ones, I wasn't aware of the modern-made ones and the nightcrawlers as well) - it was however nice to see a description of each cryptid at the back of this comics.
The drawing is funny, like what I always love from Sarah Andersen's style. I think this comics can also be nice for kids who like cryptids, to read for halloween, or just to lessen the monster's weight by depicting them in a more awkward and funny way!
I loved this! Not going to lie I'm a sucker for Mothman and cryptids so I see a book about cryptids I'm instantly interested. I enjoyed this so much the art style was bright and colorful, the stories are funny and relatable like bigfoot with body image issues! Ive already followed Sarah on Instagram so I can see even more of her comics!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing a free copy for review!
This is so much of my thing that I can’t help but rate this 5 stars. I understand the criticisms for it working better as a web comic and I would have loved for this to be longer, but the humor was so cute and cryptids are my favorite topic to learn about. The illustrations and coloring was very well done as well. I enjoy comics that are slice of life vignettes as well. If you don’t like cryptids or comics in that format then this will definitely not be for you. Because of this and her previous book, Fangs, I for one will consume anything Sarah Anderson creates.
I absolutely loved this book! All of the cryptids were so cute and funny. Mothman and the Fresno Nightcrawlers were especially adorable, and I was so excited to see a cameo from Champ! I will definitely be picking up a physical copy of this to add to my library.
Thank you to Andrews McMeel, NetGalley, and Sarah Andersen for making this ARC available for review.
Sarah Andersen ("Sarah's Scribbles" and "Fangs") continues to provide big laughs and adorable art with Cryptid Club. This book features short comics about a variety of cryptids and some of their often misunderstood interaction with humans. This book is perfection. Highly recommended for all collections.
Cryptid Club is an adorable comic book full of the supernatural. It's full of sweet and comforting depictions of aliens, Big Foot, Cthulu and other creepy characters going about their lives. It's charming to see these characters dealing with the mundane - from making dates with friends to surviving holiday parties to dealing with their teenage son's vehicle troubles. I'm a big fan of Sarah Anderson's drawings, and I loved her adorable cryptids.
Thanks to NetGalley for sending me an advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.
An adorable little book of cryptid comics. This would make a great gift for the cryptid lover in your life. There's a very real chance that my book club friends will be seeing this again around Christmas time.
As always shirt graphic panels are super cute .
Monsters usually scary are adorable and relatable.
Definitely recommend for her fans, Halloween fans, and fans of short graphic novels.
As always, Sarah Andersen creates hilarious, adorable, and wholesome comics–and Cryptid Club is no exception.
I've read Fangs by Andersen as well, but I have to say I think the vignette structure works better in Cryptid Club. Getting little glimpses of these creatures and their lives was such a joy, and I particularly loved Andersen's comedic twist on cryptid lore. With the perfect sense of comedy, Andersen is able to make monsters like Bigfoot and Cthulhu endearing and relatable. As always, I'm left with a smile on my face.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Sarah Andersen weaves short and humorous vignettes about a group of cryptids just trying to live their life. The art is hilarious, as are the unique perspectives Andersen lends to these misunderstood creatures. Perfect for horror lovers who are looking for a lighthearted laugh.
This was such a fun collection of comics!
I am a bit of a cryptid nerd and you are too I'd highly recommend this little book! I think I'll be buying one for my fellow cryptid friend for a gift!
I loved this. It was pure Halloweeny entertainment. I laughed to myself the entire time reading this collection. It was adorable, hilarious and endearing, and I can't wait for her to release another collection of cryptid comics. My one problem with this is that is was over far too quickly.
From a baby Kraken making puns to Bigfoot getting tagged in blurry pictures to Slenderman babysitting, this is a book filled with cute little cryptids doing everyday things. It's what we are used to from Sarah Andersen, and it is a lovely book to have a little read.
I've spent several years adoring Sarah Andersen, and most of my life adoring cryptids, so when Sarah started the cryptid comics on social media, I was hooked. I've been following these comics since they started, so I had already read most of these, but it didn't stop me from giggling all over again. My favorites are the Mothman ones — specifically the strips featuring Mothman losing his shit over bright lights — but honestly, they're all absolutely golden and I can't wait to buy a finished copy for my Sarah Andersen collection.
