Sarah Anderson returns with Cryptid Club, a collection of short comics centering on various cryptids.
I have been a fan of Sarah Anderson's comics for quite some time, and love a good themed collection. Anderson also provides a glossary of the cryptids included in this collection just in case people may not be familiar with them. Anderson's comics are always short, funny, and to the point. In addition, her whimsical and simple drawing style pairs well with the flat coloring style for a cohesive look rather than overcomplicating things with too much shading or depth in color.
Basically, this collection is exactly as advertised. If you like Sarah Anderson's comics, or you like cryptids, or if you like both, you'll like this collection. Sarah Anderson's comics are always a bright spot in the day, and I was grateful to be able to see this collection early.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for giving me this eARC to review.
This isn't a bad book! It features a collection of small comics that are one page long. The art is good and while the comics are hit or miss, it is overall a nice book if you like short comics that you can jump into whenever you want.
This is yet another hilarious comic featuring the inimitable humor of Sarah Andersen. This collection stars a set of cryptids in Andersen’s trademark awkward and vulnerable scenarios, humanizing and evoking sympathy for what are typically the stuff of nightmares (chupacabras, mothman, kracken, etc.) I wasn’t familiar with all of the cryptids, but there is an illustrated glossary in the back for the unenlightened. I read this with my 11-year-old, who knew who all the cryptids were and laughed their head off. I cannot wait for Andersen’s next edition.

This was so cute! The cover and title of this one originally caught my interest, but I wasn't sure what to expect between the covers. I was pleasantly surprised by the comics and 'characters'. It was a fun and creative twist to cryptids! This book would make a perfect gift or even a coffee table type book. I know I'd be interested in seeing a second book!
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC!
I am a little underwhelmed by the collection. I wanted a little more meat to the characters. Yes, it is cute and funny, but I wish there was just something more.
I got to read an advanced copy of this book, and I'm so glad I did! I can't wait to buy my own physical copy as well. I laughed out loud at so many of these comics. Sarah Anderson has long been a favorite of mine (Sarah's Scribbles), but Cryptid Club is a new fave!
Cryptid Club is an adorable collection of one-shot comics featuring everyone’s favorite ghoulies. The cover is stunning, and I think this is a perfect coffee table book for the autumn season.
I’ve been following Sarah Andersen for a long time and was really excited when she started doing artwork and panels following different cryptids. I’m a huge fan of the supernatural, so cryptids are my jam. I was even more excited because I knew a book had to be following, and sure enough, there was! The pages are full of beautiful, colorful, and funny panels featuring a cast of cryptids ranging from Bigfoot to the Loch Ness Monster. Some panels are relatable, but it’s mostly a series of funny to heartwarming artwork bringing cryptids to life in a different life.
There is so much funny, relatable, and sometimes just off the wall silliness going on in this book. While you can check out panels that were shared on Instagram and other places that Sara posts, there are also many panels that are only in the book. I love that it allows people who want the book to get extra panels while allowing people who don’t want the book or can’t get it at this time to still enjoy a nice variety of these stories. My favorite Sarah Andersen style cryptid throughout the book ended up being Bigfoot. I was absolutely delighted when Bigfoot, in particular, appeared on the pages.
The back of the book features a cryptid specific glossary. It includes a drawing of each cryptid along with a little information about them. If anyone is not familiar with any of the characters before jumping in, it’s easy for them to flip to the back and read up on all the cryptids before getting started. I was surprised that there was a glossary at the end and really liked that feature even though I’m very familiar with every character who was featured.
This is one of the best things I've read in a while.
It has everything: art, comedy, cryptids...a beautiful collection of little comics surrounding cryptids.
Sarah Anderson brings her typical whimsical humor and comforting art style into this comic collection.
Honestly I can't talk too much without referencing every single comic because I loved every single one. I would just recommend that anyone read it, or at the very least the @club.cryptid instagram for this collection.
This also brought me back to the game Poptropica, with adventures of Cryptid Island and the hours I spent playing that game and learning about cryptids. Sarah brings a cuter and more whimsical version of cryptids than simply this history and experience of them. But it will bring you back if you've played the game.
I'd highly recommend that anyone who enjoys Sarah's comics, cryptids, or even just cute stories: READ THIS BOOK!
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Sarah Andersen for a e-arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is such and cute quick read and would say you could read this to your kids I don't know why but i really want to buy this book for my husband so he can read it
What a fun little book! I never really had a "cryptid phase" or anything but this made me wish I had (or has maybe kickstarted one?) I love Andersen's art style, I saw another review that said it was a little same-y but I think in this format/with this subject matter it doesn't fall into that at all. For basically a book of vignettes on the life of cryptids this is really wholesome and now I want to be best friends with mothman so!
This was so adorable!! The art is super cute and almost every single page made me chuckle! I love seeing all of these classically creepy or scary creatures humanized and funny and sweet. I wish there was more of it!
I recented a free ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I love all things Sarah Anderson. I follow her on so many social media platforms. So I knew when I saw this I had to read it. I have followed this series online so I am pretty sure I have read them all. Even though some of the characters I did not know who they were I figured it out as I went and really enjoyed it. Plus any comic that understands the 'Thanks it has pockets' is a comic for me!
Can I give this 100 stars? I love this Author so I snatched this one up. It was cute and laugh-out-loud funny. I can not stress enough how much everyone needs to experience this book.
Such a fun read. I've always loved the legendary cryptids like Mothman, Nessie, and Fresno Nightcrawlers but this sweet graphic novel brings a new light to the sometimes spooky legends. With a colorful and comedic style, Sarah Anderson creates a new positive light on some of the most famous cryptids known today. I am beyond excited to get my hands on a physical copy of the graphic novel upon release.
This book was super super cute! I love the simplistic art style, it made the cryptid characters into friendly looking creatures instead of their creepy legendary descriptions. This book consists of mostly four panel comics and was a quick read but worth it. It was funny with some pages making me laugh out loud. I wasn't having the greatest day but this definitely cheered me up. I would read it again and recommend it to my friends.
Honestly I just thought the cover was cute but I couldn’t stop laughing at the comics. I need this book for my coffee table ASAP!
The cute take on cryptids in their everyday lives had me cackling.
This series celebrates the unique qualities that make cryptids so desperately sought after by mankind. I am a fan of this creator's work about the problems of being an adult. I started following on Twitter because I loved Sarah Andersen and Sarah Scribbles. I started noticing their cryptid stuff. So when I saw that the cryptids were getting their own book. I already preordered it from my local comic shop. If I am really honest with myself I just requested the arc because I am the queen of impatience and REALLY wanted to read it now.
The art is adorable. The characters are all your favorite cryptids. But be warned after reading this book I am starting to wonder if I am a cryptid. Even if you have been following the cryptids online, I still recommend buying this book because not only does it have 25 new comics the cover also GLOWS IN THE DARK!
Absolutely 5 stars. I would give it more if I could!
Love, love, love! The cutest graphic novel I have read all year!!! I really enjoy the illustrations, storylines and puns. This is a graphic novel that I could read every year for Halloween but also just in general a fun reread. Highly highly recommend.
