I really loved this middle grade read by Tanita S. Davis. Henri, our main character, is a delightful character that middle schoolers will easily identify with. She's trying to navigate a world where she's figure out who she is, who her friends are, what her relationships with her family look like, and how to keep everything balanced.
Henri is kicking off the new school year at a new school - until now, she's been at a private school where she's received extra support for her learning disability. She's ready though to tackle being in public school - or at least she hopes she is! Along the way, Henri makes new friends (though her older sister is very displeased with who she's picked), joins the soccer team, starts to conquer her discomfort with math, learns about some talents she didn't know she had and makes plenty of mistakes as she grows.
A very fun and very real read, this book is perfect for middle schoolers who are figuring out just where they belong - with the added bonus of starring a character with a learning disability and multiple characters of color.
