I've always loved this book series since I picked up my first after college. It is a career and job search book with a holistic approach that aims to help the reader to find a job that suits and fulfills them, not just one that checks superficial boxes. In this, it asks deeper questions and encourages soul searching. But, of course, it also gives advice on applying for jobs, creating your resume, interviewing, salary negotiation, etc. This is a great place to start for practically anyone, whether you're new in your career, seeking a change, or looking for a job after being in one for years. The updated version provides insight on the current landscape of jobs in the US, taking into account external forces such as the COVID-19 pandemic or changes in the economy. An all-in-one career book for your personal journey, wherever you are on it.
It's hard to believe this book was first written in 1970! It's up there with How to Win Friends & Influence People among the self-help classics. Basically, the author recommends that when changing careers or job hunting, you really need to think things through and have a plan. It's a bit like dating--really knowing what you're looking for will help you find a job that's a good fit and where you'll be happy. Making those determinations involves a lot of self-examination to know your own strengths and weaknesses and then a lot of research into where your strengths might be needed. The book is updated often so it covers more modern topics like social media and the new methods of job searching.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a temporary digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
This is an updated version of a timeless classic for professionals. Each time I read this book, I get more nuggets of useful knowledge and a great overall guide to enhance careers.
