This is a collection of poems that is kinda hard to understand. Some poems I could not tell if it was beginning or ending. That is the reason why its kinda hard to understand.
What I could make out from beginning to end on some poems were beautiful. Its a great k book but hard for me to undertand.

I received a free copy of the book and voluntarily writing a review

Unsettling our expectations about adulthood, the book permeates the quotidian with a disquieting strangeness that leads us deeper into our own lives and histories. Göritz’s sly humor, keen insight, and artistry are brought to the fore in Bang’s careful and innovative translation, allowing an English-language audience to enter fully the intricate interiority of Göritz’s work.

Translation is a difficult art, and one well done here. Even if the contents of the poetry was a bit hit or miss for me- not connecting with every topic, or the tone- I can tell that it does maintain the original tone and phrasing of the work. Some poems were very moving and insightful, while others were missing a spark that could interest me in seeing the poems as fluid phrases rather than just lines, but the technical skills and craft are evident.

I'm always hungry for something when I read a book of poems: an honest depiction of an experience that hits exactly right, a stunning set of image, craft that surprises me or electrifies me, a sense of sound and the figurative, a delicious sequence.

Unfortunately, this collection was not that for me--the language did not feel electric, and there wasn't much of a bite to the work.

I do want to thank the press and NetGalley for providing me with an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
