My first Christmas Book of 2022 is now complete!
I thoroughly enjoyed the first Borrow a Bookshop Holiday so I had very high hopes for this one too, and i wasn't disappointed at all.
Really enjoyed reminding myself of all the characters from the previous book, but then obviously meeting the new characters who this book concentrated on.
Great book, great characters, and a great Christmas atmosphere ❤️
Christmas at the Borrow a Bookshop is a charming Christmas book about loneliness, grief, loyalty, and ultimately love. Clove Lore is a tiny waterfront village that has a unique business -a bookshop that tourists pay to stay in and run for a holiday.
Magnus is on holiday from Iceland only he wasn't supposed to be alone and he wants to run a bookshop for more than just a holiday.
Magnus is wondering if this vacation was a mistake when Alex literally washes ashore. Alex too has been hurt and wants nothing more than a home and people that love her.
As Alex and Magnus get to know each other, we get to know the residents of Clove Lore.
You will fall in love with the characters in this Christmas romance.
Lovely story in a bookshop, I really enjoyed this book, it was a funny and cute story!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the book..:
This was a brilliant read. I really enjoyed the story-line and read it all in one day. I fell for all the characters and became emotionally invested in their development . I thought this was well wrote and quite a unique story. It actually reminded me of the sister book shop to the bookshop in Wigtown Scotland. It really put me in the mood for the run up Christmas as it wasn't over the top Christmasy. It's one of them relaxing, heartwarming stories that pick you up as the nights get darker. It had a wonderful medium pace to it and a great sense of atmosphere. I definitely recommend this book to those who love a light romantic Christmasy story.
So much praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating this wonderful seasonal story to get you in that wintery mood. I will definitely be looking out for more books by this fantastic author.
The above review has already been placed on goodreads, waterstones, Google books, Barnes&noble, kobo, amazon UK where found and my blog https://ladyreading365.wixsite.com/website/post/christmas-at-borrow-a-bookshop-by-kiley-dunbar-hera-books-4-stars either under my name or ladyreading365
Full disclosure: I love anything related to Christmas. This was a really fast read for me. I adored the story and the characters. It’s a feel good Christmas story and a cozy read. It starts a bit slow but it picks up the pace. I didn’t realize this was a sequel so I’m grabbing the first one soon.
Thank you Netgalley for my ARC
This book gives all the sweet vibes!
I loved that the romance was sweet and happy! The characters back stories were interesting and I loved how it brought both people to this moment, to meet each other. It just made me happy.
The small town is so sweet, and the parts of the story that bring in other townspeople are really cute. I felt like they were my neighbors. Love this quaint town! And the ending - I had tears!!
And of course, the idea of the Borrow a Bookshop is just fantastic. I think it would be a really fun time and having this be a premise of a book series where we can continue to meet new people who fall in love is just idyllic!
This is definitely a favorite cozy romance series of mine and I can't wait to see what Dunbar comes up with next!
Thank you to #rachelsrandomresources for having me on tour. All opinions expressed are my own.
The perfect book to get you prepared for Winter! I found myself diving straight into the book's atmosphere and unable to put it down. The two main characters felt magical and I really enjoyed their interactions with one another. My only problem was that I feel I should have read the first book in the series first as there were a lot of names and I felt a little muddled as to who everybody was. I will definitely go back and read that one as I think it will make me love this book even more!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this eARC for an honest review.
I adored this read. It was a lot of fun to hear about the Icelandic Christmas traditions (I may want to adopt a few of those myself). I like that there are two main characters (Magnús and Alex), but also that we can read from some of the other characters point of view as well. The story itself is charming and the overall plot is good. Some parts are resolved rather quickly, but hey, it’s a Christmas comfort book - it’s supposed to be cheery, so I find that okay.
Christmas at the Borrow a Bookshop is the perfect, cozy read who gets you in the mood for hot chocolate, Christmas sweaters and reading books by the fire.
Rating 4 stars
This is my first book in the borrow a bookshop series, but it sounds like a dream holiday to me. I enjoyed this book a lot… a sweet quick read that was easy to get swept up in.
I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ARC provided by Hera Books.
With just two weeks until Christmas, everything in Clove Lore should be perfect. But the latest holidaymaker to the Borrow a Bookshop is feeling far from festive. Icelandic ex-bookseller Magnús Sturluson might be surrounded by love stories in the Bookshop, but he is nursing a sadness that not even fiction can fix.
When Alexandra Robinson finds herself stranded in Clove Lore, she finds a safe place to hide from heartbreak. After all, all that is waiting for her at home is a cheater boyfriend and the memories of her parents. As Alex finds herself embraced by the quirky village community, she finds her tough exterior thawing – and as she grows closer to Magnús, she finds an equally soft heart under his gruff shell.
It seems that Clove Lore is working its magic once again – until a great flood on Christmas Eve brings devastation in its wake. It is up to Magnús and Alex to batten down the hatches and help bring the village back together again, while also introducing the locals to the Icelandic tradition of the jólabókaflóð where families and friends gather on Christmas Eve to exchange books and read together. But can Magnús and Alex truly rescue the ruins of the village, and salvage their Christmas spirit? Or is there another complication lurking even closer than they thought?
I loved the premise and cover of this book, that’s what immediately drew me in. However, the story fell a bit flat for me. I wanted to love the book, but I did not connect with any of the characters. It also seemed very strange reading a book with Christmas in the title in July, this type of book would normally be set aside for a December read. At least the Christmas aspect was not over the top. The writing style in the novel I did enjoy however some of the storylines were a bit jumbled together and made it hard to follow. I am however excited to find out what happens in book three. This was really a lovely festive read that will leave you warm and fuzzy inside.
When Magnus arrives in Clove Lore for his stay at the Borrow a Bookshop he is in a mopey mood. The Borrow a Bookshop, unfortunately, reminds him of his failures with his own bookshop in Reykjavík. And when heart-broken Alex find herself stranded in Clove Lore. she didn't expect to find love again so soon.
But as Magnus and Alex find each other, Clove Lore is hit by a flood on Christmas Eve. Using their love for the people of Clove Lore, who have taken them in when they needed it, they help build back the bookshop and the village and celebrate second chances at love with the rest of them.
I didn't realise this was a a sequel to 'The Borrow a Bookshop Holiday' when I requested this book, and although characters from the first book join Magnus and Alex in this book, it can definitely be read as a stand-alone.
The Borrow a Bookshop sounds like a dream holiday to me, and the village of Clove Lore and its people feel like a warm blanket when you need one. A proper feel-good Christmas romance!
Thank you NetGalley and publisher Hera Books for my copy in return for my review.
Thank you to Hera Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
At the beginning it was a little bit hard to understand what was going on.
It's a nice book, though it might be not for me.
What I do know is that I would love to a bookstore as an Airbnb, it would be a great trip.
So this book was a bit of a slog which only really picked up in the last half. I felt there was a lot of detail that could of been skipped and a lot of the characters didn't really seem relevant to the main storyline. I did however enjoy the idea of a bookshop that you could hire out and work in, very unique and did like it.
I didn't really feel there was much chemistry between Magnus and Alexandra and there should of be more of build up with their relationship.
Magnus finds himself alone for the holidays, in the Borrow a Bookshop he let when he thought he would spend it with his (now ex-) girlfriend. Alexandra needs a place to hide from heartbreak after she found Ben in bed with her best friend. But a great flood on Christmas Eve brings devastation to the little town they have both come to love. Will they be able to rescue the village... and themselves?
This is book 2 of the Borrow a Bookshop series, and I loved to see Jude and Elliott again, but it could be read as a stand alone. It's an uplifting Christmas romance with a lovely community filled with delightful characters and great descriptions. I can't wait for book 3!
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is a sweet story about two lonely people finding each other over Christmas in a magical little English village. This book 2 of the series but is a standalone read.
This book is absolutely delicious and I would recommend it to anyone.
This is a book about new starts, and endings - and fitting into a community that you didn't know you needed to be a part of to heal.
I love books about books, and incorporating some delicious food into the story. This is a crazy, unpredictable story that you can't fail to want to devour as much as the cakes described that are made for the cafe.
Now I need to go backwards and read the first one in the series.... and wait (impatiently) for the next book!
I loved the previous story very much, but unfortunately I really struggled with this one.
I found it didn’t flow as well as the last one which was a shame.
I didn’t gel with the main characters either and felt that the romance side wasn’t as well written.
The book did improve later on so I am glad I continued.
I read The Borrow a Bookshop Holiday by Kiley last year, so I was so happy when I saw there was going to be another book and it would be set at Christmas, I was all kinds of happy, then I was given an advanced copy and you think things can’t get better for me, well they did because did you see the cover, how gorgeous, how adorable, Christmassy and warm and I just want to jump into that cover. I haven’t even told you how much I loved this book yet !
It will come as no surprise after my gushing that I adored this book, just as much, maybe more as I did the first, I think I fall in love with Kiley’s writing and characters more with each book I read, you want romance, drama, family, friendships, community and a hug in book form, then you won’t go wrong picking up one of Kiley Dunbar’s books.
Although this is the second book in the series, this can definitely be read as a stand-alone ( I mean I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to devour the first too, but free will and everything, but seriously you’re gonna love the first book too, why would you want to miss out) I loved the community in the first, but I think they pull together even more here, there is definitely an even stronger sense of community this time. There so much drama, heart in this, Kileys books are always fantastic, the romance is gorgeous but I love that community, friendships are placed as equals to romance, celebrating love in all its forms.
Magnus and Alex are fantastic characters, but so are all the supporting characters and villagers, it’s what makes the book stronger when all the characters are relatable and well developed. I believe there’s going to be another book due in Spring and I will definitely be reading and eagerly awaiting that book. Kiley Dunbar is on my go to list of authors now, long may she continue to write books like these and I’ll throw my money at her time and again.
Thanks to Hera Books, Rachel’s Random Resources, Netgalley and Kiley Dunbar for the opportunity to read an advanced copy and take part in the blog tour. All opinions are my own and freely given.
Such a wonderful return to Clove Lore and the Borrow a Bookshop for Magnus and Alex’s story to unfold. Beautifully written and so easy to immerse yourself in village life with the familiar characters from the previous book. If you haven’t read that one first you will still love this story but if you have you enjoy hearing what the previous character are doing now. Brilliant book.
I was looking forward to this book as I enjoyed the first one so much, I was a little disappointed as it was very descriptive and the foreign words were off putting, The characters seemed very nice but I did skip quite a bit of the book, sorry for the negative comments.
