For anyone who loves birds and butterflies and wants to learn how to draw them this book is for them,
Let's Draw Birds & Butterflies is a great introduction to drawing. After two sections containing the basics and tools for successful drawing, the author starts right in with one of the smallest birds on Earth: the ruby-throated hummingbird. With great step-by-step instruction, even the most novice can make a recognizable bird happen with some strokes of the pencil. I am admittedly in the novice category and I had a great time drawing with this book.
The book itself is pretty short, with only a few birds and butterflies to master. From the monarch butterfly, to the emperor penguin, and the bald eagle, budding artists of all ages will find their favorite bird or butterfly to master. I like the fact that the drawings are in greyscale - just black, white, and shading - as getting the colors right can be frustrating for beginners. Overall, Let's Draw Birds & Butterflies is a great drawing book and one I would recommend for others.
Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy of Let's Draw Birds & Butterflies by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this book was entirely my own.
I'm not very artistic, even my stick figure people look odd, but I found the instructions in this book to be very easy to follow. Between the written instructions and the visual aids, I was able to draw birds that were actually recognisable as their species!
As I have started birding recently, this book will be invaluable to me when noting my sightings in my journal.
Thank to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for giving me a free digital copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review.
My daughter and I had a lot of fun reading this book together and we loved it. The book is really great, as it goes into detail about different art tips and techniques, art tools required and how to draw different birds and butterflies, a few examples being Dove, Bald Eagle and Monarch Butterfly.
My daughter's favourite creature was the butterfly, which she tried to draw.
I highly recommend this book to all budding artists and also experienced artists, as whatever your skills, you will still learn something from this interesting and useful art book.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

All the basic information including tools, media and materials and basic techniques is introduced first. Then a range of drawing projects are presented to have a go at. The book is short but the content is very good. and it is very easy to follow. The perfect starting point. Overall an excellent introductory guide.

How2DrawAnimals presents "Let's Draw Birds & Butterflies. Learn to draw a variety of birds and butterflies step by step!" published by Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster. It is one of the books in the "Let's Draw ..." series which touches also other animals such as dogs, wild animals, or dragons. The book starts with the basic information about "Tools & Materials" and "Drawing Basics". Then it offers ten step-by-step drawing for birds such as the "Ruby-Throated Hummingbird" or a "Barn Owl" and for butterflies such as the "Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly" or the "Monarch Butterfly". There are also additional tips throughout the books touching topics such as "Cast Shadows", "Symmetry", or "Hidden Anatomy".
It is a short book for children and beginners who want to learn to draw some birds and butterflies and it only offers the drawings in black-grey-white (although more advanced students will have no problem to adapt the instructions for drawing with colors). I highly recommend this book for this group.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I received the book from netgalley for my honest review. This book has step by step to teach you how to draw birds and butterflies. It is great fun for those learning to draw. It also teaches some about shading. My oldest daughter loves these books. She has been able to draw animals well instead of cartoon animals. Highly recommended.
Love this "how to draw" book as well, just like the sea creatures one. It's the perfect level of difficulty for ages around 9 and above to further their artistic skills. Not too simple, not too hard. Good fundamentals to build upon.
Really enjoyed this book, its great for someone who has an interest in drawing and wants to learn how to draw birds and butterflies. I particularly loved the Bald Eagle. This would make a great gift for some body.
Easy to copy drawings great for helping teach art in school. My 14 year old son used this and found them great.
Walter Foster books rarely disappoint and this book is no exception! It starts with simple shapes and carries you through several steps with a realistic drawing as a result. As the title indicates, you learn how to draw several types of birds, including a duck and penguin, as well as a beautiful butterfly. You can carry these instructions to other drawing objects as it teaches you to look for basic shapes in everything you see.
Great book! I'm learning how to draw, I love birds so it's my priority to learn and this book explains how to in such easy steps. It's explained very well and simply, fitting for children and adults, beginners or experts who don't know how to draw birds.
I'm very happy with it and glad I got a chance to check it out! I will look into other books in the series that exits and any future ones.
My 9 year old niece has been obsessed with learning to draw and these books were perfect for her! I especially appreciated the tips and tricks offered to new and experienced artists. I loved the variety given to draw, and there's something for everyone, no matter what your drawing experience.
Not only does this book go through drawing basics, but it gives step-by-step directions in 10-12 steps. It is intended for kids, but I think the types of drawing are kind of advanced. There are a variety of ypes of creatures within the book. It also gives a list of tools and materials needed to be successful.
Let's Draw Birds and Butterflies is a collection of drawing tutorials by How2DrawAnimals. Due out 16th Aug 2022 from Quarto on their Walter Foster Jr. imprint, it's 48 pages and will be available in paperback format.
For all the readers who grew up with the spin racks of technique booklets from Foster at their local stationery/art store, the format in this new series of books will be comfortingly familiar. The books begin with very basic overviews over tools and supplies and pencil techniques for light and shadow, shading, texture, and form.
There are 10 tutorials included in the book for a varied selection of flying creatures such as a hummingbird, mallard, tiger swallowtail butterfly, dove, and barn owl (and 5 more). Tutorials are easy to follow and show step by step refinements with new lines and shading included. The tutorials cover two pages each with 10 steps from simple shapes to finished, shaded drawing.
This would make a great gift for would-be artists of all ages. The included tutorials are varied and eclectic. There is a complete table of contents, so locating individual ones shouldn't be problematic. They're slanted toward line drawings, though colored pens, crayons, and watercolors could certainly be used to enhance the drawings.
Nice booklet, accessible for everyone.
Five stars. This would be a nice choice, bundled with some drawing supples, for a young artist. It would also do well for school or public library acquisition, home library, and even for adults/childminders/caregivers/teachers who want to up their "draw with me" game with their young charges.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
My daughter loves to draw animals and these are the perfect books for kids who want to learn to draw animals. There are 2 butterflies and 8 birds in this book. Her favorite, the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird was the very first one! The instructions are easy to follow and the tools needed you most likely already have on hand. This book would be a perfect gift with a sketchbook and drawing pencils for a child who loves animals.
Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the opportunity to review this book.
I enjoyed following the step by step instructions on how to draw a couple of birds and a butterfly from this book and I must say they turned out quite well. The projects are appealing and anyone wanting to learn how to draw birds and butterflies will surely do well after some practice (or if you are a beginner, after LOTS of practice because let's face it - creatures are hard to draw well. That's why we need good guidebooks like this one.)
As always, I liked that each new step is shown in blue instead of black used in the previous step so it's easy to see where you are to draw next. The one thing I would like to see perhaps is a zoom-in for some of the more detailed and complicated steps, like the eyes and feet of the birds. I was glad to be looking at a digital copy, as I could pinch for a closer look. The pictorial instructions stop at the essential outlines and further details like how to shade the feathers and so on are not given except in text. Still, this volume would be a useful addition for any artist's library if they are looking to draw more realistic looking birds and butterflies.
4 and a half stars for me.
Very useful! The steps are clear and easy to follow even if you're a beginner. I started practicing from this book and so far I see results. Thank you!
This is such an awesome drawing book! Great for kids or adults! I've always had a love for drawing and this was so much fun! The steps, the descriptions and the photos were just great! I highly recommend this!!
**Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for sending me this for my honest review!
A quick guide that simplifies how to draw birds and butterflies. Includes penguins, eagles, and more! Once you know the basics, you can tackle any others.
