Pretty enjoyable YA read with a cute enemies to lovers trope. The whole premise was a bit OTT and got more so as the story progressed. A solid 3 stars.

This is going to sound weird, but I picked up this book because I am a huge fan of The Golden Girls on tv and the character Blanche Devereaux. I thought this book was definitely cute, but I am probably older than the intended audience. I will definitely recommend this book to people with younger daughters though!! 3 stars! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting access to this title in exchange for my honest review!

I loved Ro! What a fun book set in the tech world. The male MC was great and I loved the tension and how their relationship progressed.

A slow burn romance? A character struggling to decide what is right? This was such a well written YA story. Ro is a complex and real character, and the story perfectly captures what it's like to be at teenager. Brilliant.

A fun read with a unique plot! I loved Ro as a main character. She’s strong and has a great voice. And I always love fake dating.

Ro Devereux is an 18-year-old high schooler who created an app based off the childhood game of MASH that can actually accurately predict your future… well 93% accurate. It was only meant to be a school project, but when her influencer cousin shares the app with her followers it blows up overnight. Now, Ro is signing deals with tech startups and is the face of the app. She’s living her dream, but soon she learns that not all that glitters is gold.

Oh yeah, there’s a romance here, too. Now that the app has enough users, Ro launches the match feature that shows you your soulmate, essentially. In order to prove the app works, Ro is going to be the first person matched and have a publicly successful relationship to encourage members to use the feature. Her match? Her childhood friend turned nemesis, Miller. Ruh-roh!

There’s too many going on in this book that doesn’t make sense. There are plenty of apps that “predict the future” and claim to “use science” to do it, but no one believes it. In the world of this book, though, everyone eats that shit up instantly. I mean, okay I will suspend my belief for that, sure.

But then we get to the marketing, and the people at the tech start up are like “We need to be careful with our wording so we don’t get sued,” and everyone’s like yes, that makes sense. Let’s say it’s 100% accurate then that will save our asses…huh? I’m pretty sure that’s the kind of wording that will lead to you being sued… it was just confusing and contradictory and weird.

Fine, fine, at least the romance stuff will make sense, yeah? NO! When I learned the thing that ended Miller and Ro’s friendship I was like oh… wait that’s it? Did I miss something? They got in one fight over something that is pretty understandable and you decide to never talk again? I mean, Ro is feeling the same damn way! She’s asking Miller why he never answered any of her calls afterwards and he’s like, “yOu OnlY TRied cALliNg mE FIftEEn TimEs.” And then Ro is like, “You right.”

Also the last 50 pages is just Ro crying nonstop. Even she’s like “oop, I’m crying again.”

All that to say it was an interesting plot, a fun thought exercise, and the side characters (specifically Autumn and Felix) all made for an enjoyable reading experience. I requested this ARC cause Rachel Lynn Solomon said this book is similar to Today, Tonight, Tomorrow, my favorite YA book EVER, and I can see what she means but I say read TTT instead!

Thank you NetGalley and Harper Collins Children’s Books for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this novel! I found the relationship between Ro and Miller to be developed well and they were extremely cute. This novel is more than just a romance novel which I found great. The only aspect that made me rate the book a 4 instead of a 5 was that I felt the ending to be a little bit rushed. There was a lot of time spent in the beginning to set up the conflict and the character's dynamics and the ending felt a bit too quick for me. Overall, I really enjoyed this novel and would definitely recommend it!

From the very beginning of Seven Percent of Ro Devereux I loved this idea of human nature. Whether we can ever, even 93%, be predictable. While her app, MASH style, is supposed to have a high accuracy, how powerful can unpredictability be? I love that not only is it an issue for Ro throughout the book, but also the story in general. In our lives, there’s this tendency to wonder what would happen if our lives were a movie. If there was a sense of predictability to it. And Ro’s app seems to see inside our souls and let us know what our future holds.

Once in awhile I read YA because the plot intrigues me and even while there's a lot this 55+ year old doesn't understand about social media or some current pop culture reference, I had no problem here, and I loved this book! It was really interesting to learn about how social media can make you and break you in the span of a few months, weeks, or even days. Sometimes hours! I learned a lot about app development. The whole media tour was fun and exciting.

But the best part about this book is Ro. We all know better than she does, that nothing is ever as easy or as perfect as it seems, but she needs to learn her lesson the hard way and so she does. And yet she remains likeable, even more so than at first because she fights hard to fix things and she makes some really hard choices. And Miller. Everyone needs a Miller.

I look forward to reading more books by this author!

This is a wonderful YA book- a look at the tug of teenage years of being capable but also needing growth, the perspectives of years, but also making the right decisions as you can at the time. Plus the way media leads to some positive thing but also can blow things out of proportion quickly and dangerously. Add a smattering of teen love and a dose of humor and it was a great book.

This was great. It deals with much more than a romance. It was about self discovery, found family, and what it means to follow your dreams.

I definitely enjoyed this and I’ll be looking out for more from this author in the future.

When I read the description of this book I thought it sounded fun, but in actually reading it, this book is so much more. I loved every element of this book. There were so many moving pieces, but I felt like they were all well done and nothing was dropped. I loved Ro from the beginning of the book and Miller was such a good hero. The relationships in this book were realistic and beautiful, even in the pain. I loved this book and cannot wait to read more from this author.

Seven Percent of Ro Devereux is one of my favorite YA releases in a long time. I LOVED this book. It follows teenager, Ro Devereux, who creates an app for a school project based on the famous game M.A.S.H. It gets picked up by a huge tech company changing Ro’s life forever. Her app also gives her her “perfect match”, which ends up being her estranged best friend from childhood and they’re forced to work together and “date” to promote how well it works. I was expecting a cute YA rom-com, but this book packed an emotional punch! It had me sobbing in my bed at 4 am and left me emotionally ragged. It deals with loss, grief, friendship, love, complicated family dynamics, and forging your own path all with an entirely relatable, and easy-to-read voice. The characters are delightfully real and their relationships are messy and human. This book was as entertaining as it was beautiful and I will be following Ellen O’Clover closely after this truly stellar debut novel. I highly recommend it.

Everything I love in a YA--queer, witty, funny, wise. A book about going after your dreams and embracing the unexpected.

What a let down.

We all love tropes, when they are done well but this book was so painfully below average. I was expecting more. Perhaps O'Clover's next book will be better.

Seven percent of Ro Devereux is a story about a high schooler who creates an app that essentially tells you your future. Her app quickly takes off and she is offered the deal of a lifetime with a company offering to make her app the next big thing, on one condition. She must promote her apps matchmaking feature by dating the person it chooses for her. Of course, it’s the boy who she grew up along side and who is also the son of her mothers best friend.
Throughout the story, Ro must work through her past with him while also trying to sort out her future. I really liked how this book gave us a girl who had a close relationship with her dad and let us see the true potential of a girl in STEM. Ro is smart, always on the mark, and always trying to do better.
I really appreciated how the story was split into the past and present to help us put the story together as it progresses.

I ENJOYED…
You know me, I’m a huge fan of YA contemporary. Well, it turns out I’m even more of a fan when these YA contemporary book have unique concepts and just, packs a whole damn lot of emotions. Seven Percent of Ro Devereux gave me exactly that. It’s about Ro, a teenager that built a revolutionary app to predict your future. What job you’ll do, how many kids you’ll have, where you’ll live… and who you’ll end up with. To prove it works, she’ll have to pretend to fall for Miller, her ex-childhood best friend.
I mean. Let me talk for a second about the childhood friends trope, because it has my ENTIRE HEART. Here, I absolutely adored the way it played out. Miller and Ro are a bit estranged after some drama in the past. I found them reconnecting, struggling with their feelings, and the whole fake-dating-my-childhood-friend just… my heart.
It also helps that Miller is such an adorable character, the softest cinnamon roll ever, okay. I loved him!

Obviously, I have to talk about the main character for a bit. Ro’s a bit of an obstinated person, she doesn’t want to go to college, but her father wants her to. I think that’s a topic that’s super interesting and needs to be tackled more in YA. I loved how smart, talented and just how REAL she felt. I was rooting for her from page one until the very end.
I really loved the topics the book handled, such as: can you really predict your entire future with an app? If you could, would you and, most importantly…. should you? This really made me think (and sometimes a bit anxious, I’ll admit it), but I LOVED that topic so much. Like I said it just before, I also really enjoyed the talks about going off to college and how it’s not the only path to follow.

OVERALL
Seven Percent of Ro Devereux somehow went after my heart, caught it and did NOT let go. I absolutely adored the story, the characters and I just felt so, so much while reading. Definitely recommending this book. I know I’ll be eagerly waiting to read more from this author!
